Would love to. I know he’s played around here, will look out for him to return. VA is VA tonight ;-) Same old, same old, but it’s okay. Quiet out your way?
Today it was raining and Mrs. Spocko got reorged :-(
Also my proposal wasn’t acknowledged and we have ants in the house.
The economy still sucks and I’m probably going to have a heart attack from drinking too much diet coke.
Other than that I’m fine.
Suz, speaking of accomplishments — that’s something I’ve learned recently: make an accomplishments list, rather than a to-do list. Makes me feel a whole lot more fulfilled, let me tell ya.
West coast pups have reason to be very worried about radiation fallout. I don’t know if it’s been discussed at FDL yet, but a ton of fellow pups live way east, and it should go without saying that our doors and the rest of our facilities are wide open to anyone if that terrible time arrives. (Full disclosure: pets are welcome where I live.)
I’m liking this big band. Reminds me of an orchestra conductor I had. We were baroque but he was definitely swing. I saw him in his element years later and he really rocked out.
Ha! When I had my first real & thorough physical exam, I asked my doctor about the effects of coffee, he said 2-3 cups a day wouldn’t matter, I said I have 4 before I’m out the door in the morning, probably 10 before I go to sleep. He said if it didn’t bother me, it was okay.
heh – reminds me of the story my mom told about her doc — this is back when everybody smoked; he’d be sitting there with her in a consult, smoking, and advising her to quit smoking…
daffodils are up in the yard and mine in their pots on the deck are just about ready to open. haven’t been out to check to see if there are any buds on the apple trees. the rhododendron buds are looking bigger each day.
I’ll take heaping amounts of both if I can get away with it. Once the parental unit took us out to a special dinner– which was lovely– and made even more lovely by a violinist who came to the table and did a short serenade. I thought that was tops.
my old coffee pot had round one but this new one is a cone shape. am glad that i was forced to pay attention to just how much coffee i was drinking and cut back.
I reuse a filter for two pots (8 cups = a pot). I tried using it for a third pot, but there was an overflow mess. I don’t know if it had anything to do with being a third time, but the mess was a disaster so I stopped at two recycles.
aiming high: Ivy League and some other east coast schools. So far in at UCLA, McGill, a few liberal arts schools in the Pac-NW. mums the word lest I jinx anything!
My pediatrician smoked. My mom brought me in because I had a big bump on my head. He looked at it, said “She’s got a tick” and fizzzzz with the end of his cigarette. I was so surprised, it didn’t even hurt.
I think the gold/permanent filters are too porous, the grounds don’t hold the water long enough. You need more grounds to get your full flavor. My ‘perfect’ formula (I drink double-strength coffee — espresso is 4-times strength) is 7 measures of coffee to 7 measures of water. But 6 measures of coffee to 8 measures of water produces the truly perfect cup b/c the longer brewing time of 8 cups extracts more of the coffee from the 6 measures than the 7/7 formula. I hope that makes sense.
head spinning a bit, but I think I got it ;-) I drink French roast, and my coffee maker has a 1 to 4 cup setting if I just want a little, so it brews slower. Nice and strong.
I’m watching the map and there is some movement of the numbers as expected. Thanks for the link. It’s good that they are encouraging community environmental monitoring. We need more of that participation again; keeps folks engaged in protecting the environment so it’s less likely things sneak up on the public. I’d be happy to just snap my fingers and fix Japan. There are amazing places I wanted to go back to see. So much for that now.
Yep, the heat draws out the tick. I thought my dog had a tick on his snout, I did that with my cig, he looked at me funny but let me do my thing since I’d helped him with bullet wounds and all kinds of injuries. But the tick never budged. Turned out it was a burr. I pulled it out, he sniffed it, yawned, and asked to go out…
gaaaah, I’ll never forget the time when I was a little kid and I saw a tick in my outer ear while I was brushing my teeth. Screamed bloody murder, and my dad came running in and saved the day.
I also drink FR (aka ‘third-roasting’). But I’ll tell ya, pal, a 4-cupper isn’t enough. Coffee requires time unless you have a thousand-dollar espresso machine that can extract ALL the coffee. I brew 8 cups in a dripper. I pour off a cup and refrigerate the pot immediately. It arrests the coffee and stops the decomposing. Coffee stays alive for about 18 minutes before it begins to decompose and turn bitter. From the fridge I pour a cup and zap it in the microwave.
was driving me nuts.. i would be surfing utubes looking for videos and things would be going along great and whammo, black box when i went to the next video. i made sure all my flash was up to date etc and still whammo. finally dawned on me to check the utube known troubles page
here’s a win/win: the snooty Bohemian Club in Sonoma County got its logging permit revoked.
For now, though, chain saws are off limits on the largest remaining private redwood forest close to San Francisco and a lush habitat of the rare marbled murrelet, northern spotted owl, coho salmon and steelhead.
In that bucolic setting 15 miles west of Santa Rosa, 2,300 of the most powerful and wealthy men in the country – including U.S. presidents, high-profile CEOs, prize-winning authors, musicians and Hollywood celebrities – gather every July for purportedly both high- and lowbrow entertainments over a two-week summer sojourn. They continue a tradition established in the late 1800s by a group of newspapermen, publishers, actors and merchants looking to escape San Francisco to enjoy nature and indulge in artistic pursuits in “the Grove,” according to the club.
Good night!
I’m starting to cough again – need to turn in soon, and medicate too. I was hoping to go a whole day without meds… almost have made it. If i stay up for another 1/2 I can say I did… but then I will be starting tomorrow with meds. :( oh well.
I know. I was on so much that I was either way awake or way asleep or dingy… sometimes two of three! But I had to take the OTC meds to keep ahead of the symptoms. Dayquil and Nyquil! Yay!
BTW, Suzanne, this still being part of the FDL membership drive week time: Thanks (a million times) for all that you do. You’re an amazing treasure here!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
I so rarely get sickly – my kids don’t know what to do with me – they aren’t used to The Momma feeling under the weather. They’re grown mostly now – so I was able to be non-responsible and get better. Working for self makes a difference too – took a couple of days off to just do nothing. Am now trying to catch up, but for most part am better. A real problem when someone gets sick and they have to work too. Sure slows getting well down.
So I had an idea for a diary, since you folks here are my real audience I want to know if it is interesting enough to work on.
Today a friend said she couldn’t understand why every time there is a disaster the “small goverment, no regulation for business” people aren’t raked over the coals for their constant yammering.
I said it’s because there are lots of PR and communications plans activated that work to make the public not focus on the need for more an better regulation.
I’d like to show you some emails that I got via “Spockleaks” from the Chamber of Commerce Energy division to the various in house groups designed to calm down the public so that they don’t demand that the US do what Germany did (shut down the plants with the same design as Japan’s)
I know how these plans work but just describing them is boring, I think seeing the details in the form of an email telling people which parts of the plan to activate might be fun. (Like the HBGary emails/powerpoint only text)
What do you think, overly complex?
I think the people here know this stuff and if I had actual emails it would be actual news, but I think people would like to know that the response to disasters aren’t just firefighters and red cross, there are lots of comms people who are deployed that people never see. They work to keep people from demanding regulation. The work for the NRA after shooting, they put pressure on experts (one expert was fired when he criticized the USACE for their flawed work on the Leeves) And of course we know what BP’s PR team did. Are there any new regulations on deep water drilling? New and better EPA regs on use of Corexit? They waited until the public forgot so nothing changes.
I have some real examples like that I’ll use to illustrate what they do.
(Don’t pass this on, it’s just for whoever’s still online. You know, Jane called me cos I joined up & all, and, yeah, it was nice, and I’ve known important people, no big deal, but you engage us all the time, you’re never too busy, your service is priceless, no one makes FDL the special place it is more than you. That’s all, except for thanks again and always.)
thanks guys. i really just try to treat everyone how i would want to be treated — making sure that everyone who comments on my thread gets a greeting from me. i try to find videos that i think ya’ll would find interesting or unusual or will take ya down various memory lanes.
((( Suz ))) you’re such a great gal. And I keep saying this, but I mean it — one of these days I’ll make it out to the west coast, and we’ll have a time!
I might spilt it up, on one hand it’s fiction on the other hand it’s stuff that really happens.
I never wanted to do crisis communication because there is too
Much pressure and ass covering, but I know the fundamentals.
Often times the lawyers drive the communications and they are all about limiting liability.
Studies show that a company that is open have a better rep with public after a disaster, but modern companies
Ignore Johnson and Johnsons Tylynol in favor of Exxon stonewalling and dragging court cases out.
I think people should know this. And the crisis Coms people are happy
To use right wingers and libertarians to back the even after a crisis.
Jane’s calling people who joined proves that she’s a beautiful and valuable owner, probably unique on the planet. All of you are blessed and deserve to prosper for what you do.
China and Japan are respectively the world’s second and third-largest economies. In 2008, China-Japan trade grew to $266.4 billion, a rise of 12.5 percent on 2007, making China Japan’s top two-way trade partner. China was also the biggest destination for Japanese exports in 2009.
It will take a month for Japan if nothing else goes wrong to start working again. Can even China survive a shock that big and still buy our T-Bills? Given that Japan’s government not the Japanese power company’s insurance will pay for reconstruction I doubt they will be buying our T-Bills either.
Will the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan defunded? Or will all our SS be used to pay for more stupidity?
YARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
hey that guy — how goes?
Here’s a change of pace – Patty Griffin & Emmylou Harris – Little Fire.
hey mr why — how was your day?
Just got back from gig – tired. Another fill-in gig – band is back rehearsing but not ready yet. Fill ins are nice. Low stress.
Hey Suz! Brian Setzer is fun. Saw the Stray Cats once, they opened for SRV in that one and only show of his that I attended.
a fill in gig is better than a regular practice session anyway. ya get a better idea of where ya need to work and what’s working well
True that!
hey ll — how’s nova tonight? i saw the bso christmas extravaganza … 2003 i think — if ya ever get a chance, he puts on a kick ass show
Would love to. I know he’s played around here, will look out for him to return. VA is VA tonight ;-) Same old, same old, but it’s okay. Quiet out your way?

I’m good. Did well in yoga tonight. More than a little depressed with the Japanese situation, but I’ll leave that baggage in the other thread for now.

i figure there’s not a whole hella lot i can do about it so i’m escaping into music and not going to stress

aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Hi Margot, sorry about Kasich :-( He’s an ass.
Aloha CT!

Beautiful day here, my daughter went for another ultrasound but they couldn’t determine the sex yet…!

Today it was raining and Mrs. Spocko got reorged :-(
Also my proposal wasn’t acknowledged and we have ants in the house.
The economy still sucks and I’m probably going to have a heart attack from drinking too much diet coke.
Other than that I’m fine.
no complaints, Suzanne, thanks.

holy crap!
Hey LL! Hope I’m not betraying a LN confidence: mzchief was coming up here also.
aw crap. i’ve cut my coffee consumption by half and am focusing on that accomplishment instead of all the crap.
oh not at all! That’s the beauty of LLN ;-)
*smiling* thought that would get your attention
I’m picking up my flat of corned beef tomorrow…! Already have the cabbage ready…!
Why? Good coffee is good.
nope, not breaking any confidence at all
Suz, speaking of accomplishments — that’s something I’ve learned recently: make an accomplishments list, rather than a to-do list. Makes me feel a whole lot more fulfilled, let me tell ya.
i was drinking way too much of it…
What time is dinner? I’ll be there ;-)
helps me not be so hard on myself — i am my worst critic
i’m gonna pick up my corned beef the day after st paddys – they are a lot cheaper then…
Kindred spirit.
West coast pups have reason to be very worried about radiation fallout. dig that
Them that’s got shall have…them that’s not shall lose…
I’m getting a good deal…! 79 cents a pound…! ;-)
Right on. And the same goes for me, my door is open as well.
Oh yeah I’m here …
I’m liking this big band. Reminds me of an orchestra conductor I had. We were baroque but he was definitely swing. I saw him in his element years later and he really rocked out.

evening, Suzzzz …. firegods
sweet — i’ve not been into town to check out the ‘before’ prices… tis another windy rainy day but no high wind warning (finally)
hey mzchief — how’s pdx tonight?
Hey you! As much as I love good food, it pales next to good music…
am down from 6 pots a day to 3 pots a day
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
hey, glow-pups. I have no idea if this site is credible or not, but it purports to monitor radiation levels around the US:
http://radiationnetwork.com/
whoa! That’s like a whole 12 hour shift’s worth of coffee ;-)
hey pun — how ya doing tonight?
i realized how much i was drinking when i was trying to make my coffee filters last to the first of the month — it was a big *whoa* moment
heh – reminds me of the story my mom told about her doc — this is back when everybody smoked; he’d be sitting there with her in a consult, smoking, and advising her to quit smoking…
Not too bad. Buds on the trees. I thought I hear thunder several times. That would really be rare for this area.
Get you one of those permanent gold-tone filters for your coffee maker – I haven’t bought filters in eons
hi Suz. Oh, I could gripe about work woes, but that’s no fun.
on the plus side, this is the month punaisette finds out about college acceptances (they’re trickling in – most arrive on the last day).
daffodils are up in the yard and mine in their pots on the deck are just about ready to open. haven’t been out to check to see if there are any buds on the apple trees. the rhododendron buds are looking bigger each day.
I’ll take heaping amounts of both if I can get away with it. Once the parental unit took us out to a special dinner– which was lovely– and made even more lovely by a violinist who came to the table and did a short serenade. I thought that was tops.
my old coffee pot had round one but this new one is a cone shape. am glad that i was forced to pay attention to just how much coffee i was drinking and cut back.
which one does she have her fingers and toes crossed for?
I’ll probably be the first glow-pup, Pun…! ;-)
O.M.G.
fuck — can ya tell its my monday? i did it again
they make cone-shaped ones too ;-) but yeah, prolly a good idea to cut back on it.
you should get a charge out of that! :~/
I know, right? Was a different time!
I reuse a filter for two pots (8 cups = a pot). I tried using it for a third pot, but there was an overflow mess. I don’t know if it had anything to do with being a third time, but the mess was a disaster so I stopped at two recycles.
oh noes! I wasn’t keeping track either or I woulda warned ya
Same here.
i was doing 2 uses and then discarding. i used to do that with the round ones before i got the gold filter.
aiming high: Ivy League and some other east coast schools. So far in at UCLA, McGill, a few liberal arts schools in the Pac-NW. mums the word lest I jinx anything!
pretty good, thanks Suzzz
Ya need more coffee…! ;-)
this calls for some Black Coffee
wow, Quebec would be neat!
McGill is like the Ivy League in Canada…! ;-)
Montreal does have a certain je ne sais quoi…
grrrr
fingers and toes crossed that her wishes come true
apparently up there they say that Harvard is the McGill of the US…
oui
My pediatrician smoked. My mom brought me in because I had a big bump on my head. He looked at it, said “She’s got a tick” and fizzzzz with the end of his cigarette. I was so surprised, it didn’t even hurt.
thx

hmmm, all of a sudden the YouTubes aren’t cooperating for me. Just a black screen. Anyone else?
haha, gotta love that simple remedy ;-)
I think the gold/permanent filters are too porous, the grounds don’t hold the water long enough. You need more grounds to get your full flavor. never mind, as Emily Litella would say. My AdBlock plus was the culprit.
i’ve had that happen…. here’s the fix
head spinning a bit, but I think I got it ;-) I drink French roast, and my coffee maker has a 1 to 4 cup setting if I just want a little, so it brews slower. Nice and strong.
i make mine weaker than most — another way to cut down

no…that’s happened to me before, can’t remember what fixed it. Are you signed in to YouTubes?

tick owning.
As long as it’s not so weak that you can see through it; one of the girls at work makes a pot just for herself, and it looks like tea
Yep, the heat draws out the tick. I thought my dog had a tick on his snout, I did that with my cig, he looked at me funny but let me do my thing since I’d helped him with bullet wounds and all kinds of injuries. But the tick never budged. Turned out it was a burr. I pulled it out, he sniffed it, yawned, and asked to go out…
;-) good to see you in form tonight
Yes — and it’s never happened before; I guess FF and AdBlock are having a moment tonight.
backatcha!
mine turned out to the the hardware acceleration setting and since i unchecked that box, i’ve not had the black box problem when watching
gaaaah, I’ll never forget the time when I was a little kid and I saw a tick in my outer ear while I was brushing my teeth. Screamed bloody murder, and my dad came running in and saved the day.
I’ll keep an eye on that — first time it’s happened — NSA? forkers…
Fine for me. Are you on dial-up, DSL, satellite or cable?
I also drink FR (aka ‘third-roasting’). But I’ll tell ya, pal, a 4-cupper isn’t enough. Coffee requires time unless you have a thousand-dollar espresso machine that can extract ALL the coffee. My contribution – Dueling Saxophones in NYC
hey pellora — how ya been?
I make double-strength and drink half-cups, very small sips. Delicious!
here’s a win/win: the snooty Bohemian Club in Sonoma County got its logging permit revoked.
I’ll try that in the morning, have my coffee maker all set up. Love the first couple of cups from the pot, but then after that it’s not so yummy.
That’s a goodie!
*snoopy happy dance*
I’ve had the nasty coughy cold thingie – but I’m much better. ’bout to turn in though. Just stoppin’ in to say hi!
excellent!
am so glad you are feeling better. tis good to see your fonts
I thought so! Did you watch to the end? :D
Well I’ve run out of steam (and looking SO forward to that first cuppa in the AM)
Thank you Suz, great chatting with you and everyone here, take care all and g’night!
I’m glad that the chain saw massacre has stopped! Yay!!!
I’ve lurked some – depending on how late I was up – went to bed mighty early for a number of nights!
g’nite ll
Niters LoudounLib.
saw i missed ya a couple nights last week iirc — you came in after i left.
i always check my threads the next morning to see what i missed
Raining there, Suzzz?
Later, LL, sleep & be well!
Yes– the dawgs join in. :-)
bands of rain moving through. had some very heavy ones earlier today but they are not as strong now.
Raining in Reno! Not a common occurrence for the most part! We need it, long as it doesn’t rain too much on the snow (that can lead to flooding).
Aloha, Pellora…!
Yyes! and a big dawg too! Pretty area of NYC. I’ve never been there – only see photos.
pellora @ 170: Could be SOHO which I hear is now cool but I haven’t been to that section.
It was fun, folks. I’m going to turn in. Everyone rest well … Zzzzzzz
g’nite mzchief
:kissandwave: Aloha Tuttle! Saw the glowpup comment! LOL And the baby news… :D
Good night!
I’m starting to cough again – need to turn in soon, and medicate too. I was hoping to go a whole day without meds… almost have made it. If i stay up for another 1/2 I can say I did… but then I will be starting tomorrow with meds. :( oh well.
you are well on the road to your old self again when ya make it to meds only once a day.
night, pellora – feel better
I know. I was on so much that I was either way awake or way asleep or dingy… sometimes two of three! But I had to take the OTC meds to keep ahead of the symptoms. Dayquil and Nyquil! Yay!
i always try to ‘come back’ too quickly and have suffered the consequences :( am better now that i’m older about taking being ill a wee bit slower
BTW, Suzanne, this still being part of the FDL membership drive week time: Thanks (a million times) for all that you do. You’re an amazing treasure here!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Good idea!
CT is the caretaker of the US’s only coffee crop! He is an unsung hero!
sounds complex. maybe you can break it down into a multipart diary series
g’nite pellora
Good night Suz.
A very good caretaker of a very good coffee! Yummy!
Named my boy Pomeranian Kona! : )

I’m still online, was chatting w/a friend on FB, and Aitch — may I say that your comment at 193 is pure gold :-) And I agree 100%
some of us have been lucky enough to meet in person for a FDL area get together, haven’t we, Suzzz?
thanks guys. i really just try to treat everyone how i would want to be treated — making sure that everyone who comments on my thread gets a greeting from me. i try to find videos that i think ya’ll would find interesting or unusual or will take ya down various memory lanes.
ya’ll make it real easy for me to do so
((( Suz ))) you’re such a great gal. And I keep saying this, but I mean it — one of these days I’ll make it out to the west coast, and we’ll have a time!
we had fun at nahant’s meet up and i enjoyed being able to put faces and voices to the individual fonts.
Don’t tell anyone: I’d rather have talked to Suzanne than to Jane. Lurking mod: please delete this comment!
gonna have us a time
Your secret is safe with me!
And I really gotta split….g’night friends!
it was a great time, delicious food too.
jane wouldn’t take any offense aitch. i’m sure some of the folks i called wudda been thrilled to have teddy or jane. it all balances out
happy lucky 200 aitch!!!
g’nite for realsies
I might spilt it up, on one hand it’s fiction on the other hand it’s stuff that really happens.
I never wanted to do crisis communication because there is too
Much pressure and ass covering, but I know the fundamentals.
Often times the lawyers drive the communications and they are all about limiting liability.
Studies show that a company that is open have a better rep with public after a disaster, but modern companies
Ignore Johnson and Johnsons Tylynol in favor of Exxon stonewalling and dragging court cases out.
I think people should know this. And the crisis Coms people are happy
To use right wingers and libertarians to back the even after a crisis.
good company, good food, good music on the stereo and a great garden to hang out and enjoy the day. i had a blast!
It’s my pleasure to have saved you from snagging the lucky 200 hundred tonight. Small gratification, but not nothing.
’bout time for me to turn back into a pumpkin folks. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight and for all the conversations and music ya shared.
g’nite all
thanks aitch :)
have you met up with teddy and other FDL’ers in the NW?
Jane’s calling people who joined proves that she’s a beautiful and valuable owner, probably unique on the planet. All of you are blessed and deserve to prosper for what you do.
Sleep & be well, Suzanne!
night AD
night all…
night Suzzz – be well
Just home from a 16-hour day at work. Any pups still up?
hiya ET
slowing down here — most everyone’s off to sleep
Hiya, PPDCUS.
Long, late rehearsal to end the day. Woodshedded Peter and the Wolf. i’m finally optimistic.
How ya doing?
One of my favorites as a kid — good luck with your performance
just watching the BBC late edition on PBS — Japan’s nuclear emergency doesn’t seem to be improving.
night ET – be well
Night, PPDCUS. Checking the battery pack on my Geiger counter….. …. … .. .
howdy Pups, just got home from work.
*waves at PPDCUS & ET*

It will take a month for Japan if nothing else goes wrong to start working again. Can even China survive a shock that big and still buy our T-Bills? Given that Japan’s government not the Japanese power company’s insurance will pay for reconstruction I doubt they will be buying our T-Bills either.
Will the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan defunded? Or will all our SS be used to pay for more stupidity?
Eat fish while you can.
