The Quitter gets absolutely savaged by Republican insiders in the GOP/Village Daily today.
Among those taking aim at Palin in recent interviews with POLITICO are George F. Will, the elder statesman of conservative columnists; Peter Wehner, a top strategist in George W. Bush’s White House, and Heather Mac Donald, a leading voice with the right-leaning Manhattan Institute.
Matt Labash, a longtime writer for the Weekly Standard, said that because of Palin’s frequent appeals to victimhood and group grievance, “She’s becoming Al Sharpton, Alaska edition.”
Will has been in the anti-Quitter camp for a while, and after her comments about the Bushes being “blue bloods,” Wehner’s remarks are somewhat predictable.
But you know she’s in trouble when she’s getting trashed by Bill Kristol’s rag. Remember, she was Kristol’s protege. And for a neocon, I imagine being called Al Sharpton is the worst insult imaginable.
Meanwhile, Judd Gregg (R-NH) simultaneously unloads on her in The Hill.
…it is entirely possible that with no presumptive winner or even favorites, a candidate who runs second or third in a great many primaries could go into the convention with a sizable block of delegates.
Who would this favor? Does Sarah Palin come to mind? Although she is not viewed by most as strong enough to win, she is viewed by many as a person worth voting for to make a statement. And primaries tend to be populated by people who go to the polls with the purpose of making a statement.
Finishing second and third isn’t really a big deal — until you get enough delegates to be the nominee. And picking a nominee who it seems would be easily defeated by President Obama might not be the best statement.
Oh, it’s on.
How long before The Quitter runs on a conservative/Teabagger ticket — just to screw the party?

President Sarah. Has a certain ring to it. /s
But, waitwaitwaitwait. I read this morning somewhere…uh, forget…that teabaggers are bi-partisan, have a wide range of supporters. Michelle B., I think. So, this would be a good move for the SP Thing.
Gawl! Where did you find that visual, BT?
I don’t think she’ll run for anything again, she’s making too much money doing nothing. I don’t think she wants to actually have to work, after all she quit her last gig she got elected to.
But she may give her “prestige” and name to a new party and field a few candidates just to screw the party, although IMO she likely won’t even do that. At the end of the day, she’s probably just a good Republican.
All this is now making the Huckster’s comments you posted about not along ago seem more rationale now. If there is a movement afoot to separate the party from The Quitter, then the Huckster was just doing his part. Republicans are soooooooooo authoritarian, follow the leader types.
But she could want to become prez for 6 months to get it on her resume to up her speaker’s fees. Then she can quit.
You always knew this was going to happen. But as BT points out, it may well backfire. Hell hath no fury like…
What would Todd say when he caught Sarah and Bristol doin’ the pool guy?
Are you kidding? Easy. May I join you? I’ve got the “bud”.
Oh, oh, Southern. This is one of the best games we’ve played here. Wish there were a ton of folks entering.
You’re brilliant, actually. Just what some need.
Heh, sort of makes vetting the vice Prez nominee really really important.
If she picks Jeb as vice, and he accepts, then we’ll know the gig is up.
You nailed it.
A major scandal awaits the Joystick President. Dennis is wise to bide his time.
well, according to her own record, every politician is SUPPOSED to quit so they don’t take advantage of the situation dontcha know
And the vice wouldn’t even need to do anything during the campaign, since Sarah has so much charisma.
First of all, she’s bene the “Alaska edition” (in other words, white) version of what they THINK Al Sharpton is since the day her political “career” began.
Second of all, the REAL Al Sharpton has done more to help the lives of actual people (as opposed to “Real Americans”) than Sarah Palin, has, will, could or even wants to.
Well, if she won, then at least that would end any doubts as to whether our elections are Diebold controlled or not. Nope, won’t be any doubts to that question anymore. I know American voters are often accused of being full of teh stoopid (something I disagree with), but no way they’re that stoopid.
Why doesn’t one of the numerous Left Wing Koch Heads start a “grassroots” website called I don’t know, “American Labels” to push Sarah Palin as an independent from the Republican sellouts who should run her own campaign.
Because
1) we aren’t cynical enough
2) there aren’t numerous Left Wing Koch Heads
All this has the malodorous smell of Newt.
Everytime someone says something nasty about Sarah, she comes out with her mouth ablazing (I was going to use guns and decided not to) and she unloads on that person in a savage way.
I cannot wait for these fireworks to begin.
Let’s see.
Republican party goes gaga over little-known state-government personality. New sensation takes over Republican party, exploits said party for personal career benefit, much to the detriment of said party. Republicans figure it out, fight back.
Democratic party goes gaga over little-known state-government personality. New sensation takes over Democratic party, exploits said party for personal career benefit, much to the detriment of said party. Democrats figure it out? Not quite as much.
My bet is still this: the Media Whore will be duly trotted forth during the primaries to gin up the ‘Baggerz ‘n git ‘em ta vote ‘n stuff. And then Palin’ll be kicked to the curb and someone, like JEB, will run.
Agree with someone up above: Palin is about as lazy as they come. Talk about a for-real cadillac welfare queen: in the dictionairy there is a neon-enhanced photo of Palin next to this phrase. She is the slacker role-model. Got herself a good ole gig with Jabba the Aisles and occasionally jetting off to some friendly gig where Palin can permit the rubes to slaver at her vaunted Jimmy Choos for a high fee.
All is about is softening up the ‘Baggerz to take the “blow” when the Snowbilly Grifter magically doesn’t make the cut to run for POTUS. Mark my words….
Are there ANY Left Wing Koch Heads?
Sarah Palin is unshakably convinced of her righteousness. God is on her side. This could be an interesting lash-up. But OTOH, she did walk away from the prospective fights in Alaska, so maybe she’ll settle into a well paid preachng to the choir gig and leave the larger public stage. In any case, raise the curtain and let the drama begin. I love mindless entertainment.
Well done sir.
That’s Judd Gregg formerly R – NH, who declined to seek re-election. His seat now occupied by Kelly Ayotte.
There is no way the Republican establishment, led by Karl Rove, is going to let Palin be on the ticket. It would be political suicide.
I really don’t get why they’re bothering. She’s not actually going to run, she just wants to do a little grifting. Unless they think she’s being too much of a smart-aleck and want to teach her a lesson.
Come onnnnnnnn, Sarah. *g*
Run, Sarah, run! For Alaska! For America! For “conservative” principles! Runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!
The Republicans are not notably kind to women and they can’t have helped noticing…………..
The Bushes are blue bloods – for generations they’ve come from inherited wealth and power going back to Samuel P Bush. Palin is a whiner, but in least in that respects, the comment on the Bush family is true. Does anyone on FDL doubt that the Bushes are blue bloods despite Bush Jr’s fake accent?
Dontcha just love political cannibalism?
IMO, it’s just to gin up the base as a distraction from reality. And make ‘em feel all victimized and stuff. In other words: the usual propoganda, just from a slightly different angle.
Mebbe the Repub “establishment” ended up getting a bit a-skeeered after some of the ‘Bagger campaigns in 2010 that came perilously close? Some of those fanatics might’ve been harder to “control” than David Koch thought they would be??? A thought.
What’s this? A rhetorical question? har… A: No.
“How long before The Quitter runs on a conservative/Teabagger ticket — just to screw the party?”
Now your making my mouth water.
Dave
Viet Nam / Gay vet
One, it’s considered impolite to bring that up, especially in a rebuttal. It’s an ad hominem. It’s also a device used by the left to ridicule HW and W — which makes it a double-no no.
Finally, it’s what she said, specifically, that got them riled.
This is a mess.
She might have to cat-fight it out with Michele Tinfoil Hat if she wants to run as a Teabagger. I can’t imagine the regular party hacks would allow Bachmann near the Repugnant nomination, either. Best case: A Palin-Bachmann (or vice versa, I don’t give a shit who gets top billing)Teabagger ticket, with some other wingnuts running on a straight Repugnant ticket.
Comedy you can believe in.
Actually being president would be to hard.
I think she want’s to be Sarah the Kingmaker.
Correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t all Republican primaries and caucuses winner-take-all? Only the Democrats do proportional allocation (for candidates with 15% or more)?
I don’t think she’ll run, since she is really in it for the money, like Newt.
heh… thanks for providing that quote again, BT. That the Quitter would say something like that is, uh, quite something.
Do you think Palin is just plain “that dumb” that she doesn’t get it? Or… I don’t know? Was she actually, for real, biting the hand that feeds her in some trumped display of fake populism? The mind boggles…
Earth to Sarah!!
She’s that dumb and so are the people who support her.
Prolly about the same thing Sarah would say if she caught Todd doin’ Michele Bachmann and Virginia Foxx
But as far as her comment goes about the Bushes, I don’t see what she as saying as either false or an ad hominem. I believe it is factually true that there are political aristocracies and as such calling someone a member of a politcal aristocracy is a factual statement…”blue blood” may be a derogatory phrase for it, but I don’t see stating a fact about the political process in this country to be an ad hominem nor as impolite.
Ride him out on a rail.
I don’t think she’s dumb, necessarily — I think he’s inarticulate and extraordinarily intellectually lazy (just like W.). I also think she’s not in complete control of her fee-fees, which seem to get hurt an awful lot.
She’s just not a grown up.
The thing about Sarah is that the Thug PTB have enough on her to put her in prison, and she knows it, and might just be smart enough to hear the message to STFU on demand. Those guys don’t take prisoners. If she goes quietly, she will get a place on the podium and a lifetime of lucrative speaking engagements, provided she continues to gin up the mouthbreathers. This is how it works.
The R’s are reinforcing her victim-hood, which makes her even more appealing to her base.
And should she prevail, which she might, the payback from her will be both nasty, and an enjoyable spectator sport.
Perfect.
MORE material for Kathy Griffin!
Oboy, I had to read that a couple of times! LOL!
Right, but you’re not the GOP establishment. Trust me, that comment is considered declasse, at best.
Thank you!
I do not believe that there will be many public places this bastard can go where he will not run into people who will give him some s#it. If i recall, it happened in a restaurant last week and he left the establishment.
Run Sarah run. We need a draft Sarah campaign. Her ego would love it. And just imagine how much the party establishment would pay her to go away.
My guess is that Fox will start ignoring her. Michele Batshit is completely ignored by the Thug MOTU so she is irrelevant. Same thing will happen to Palin.
You asked a question the other day and I had to go to work so I did not see it until I was looking at the comments when I came home.
You are right, I am of the older, supposedly retired generation, and we live in NW. Illinois so that is why I think we get some of the same weather patterns but not always.
It’s impossible to factor out the misogyny and gynephobia. This society is much sicker and pukey than she is.
This has been on it’s way for a long time. Palin’s our ace in the hole…the only chance we have to salvage something from Obama’s disastrous presidency. If the GOP is stupid enough to let her within a mile of the nomination, then the tactic of “vote democratic! The republicans are even worse!” just might work well enough for us to hang onto enough political clout to monkey-wrench the republican agenda.
Of course, it got our asses kicked in the mid-terms, but then, she wasn’t on the ballot…but neither was Obama, so, strategy-wise, I have to admit that it might be a wash…but she scares the pee out of a lot of independents, and, obviously, some republicans.
Which brings me right to this: I think the republican presidential nomination for 2012 is David Petraeus’s for the asking.
David Dayen has a fresh cross-post ready: Nuclear Industry: Pay No Attention to the Potential Meltdown Behind the Curtain
“It is impossible to factor out the misogny and gynophobia…”
You mean, like the reaction of so many democrats to Hillary’s licking rightwing butt like it was an ice cream cone, which cost her the nomination? That kind of misogny?
I think Palin is going to have some say as to what goes into the GOP platform…and, the more the merrier, if you’re a democrat. :o)
“My guess is that Fox will start ignoring her.”
I dunno, Bob. Will they write off their peckerhead viewers? :o)
You’re not ashamed to show off your ~~~Edited by Moderator. Disagree without insulting~~~ about electoral politics, are you? And why is that?
FWIW, I think it would be stupid for Palin not to run third party. That’s what I would advise her to do. There’s lots of money in it for her. And it would give her the last laugh. Think about it: It’s in Palin’s interest for Obama to be re-elected — if she can’t be.
Sigh. We all know she doesn’t want to be president. It’s work. It’s a pay cut. She has to think about hard things. Besides the nuttiest of the insane dregs of the party have an up and coming harpy, Bachmann.
Oh, indeed. The whole point of hijacking the nascent Tea Party movement and Bircherizing it was to keep it from becoming a third party strong enough to do to the Republicans what the Republicans pay the Greens to do to the Democrats: strip enough votes from them to force a loss.
But as part of the assimilation has involved not only amping up the bigotry, it’s amped up the GOP’s fugue from reality in general — which is how utterly unsuitable people like Carl Paladino, Sharron Angle, Tom Emmer and Christine O’Donnell won the GOP primary elections for various statewide offices. Angle and O’Donnell by themselves cost the GOP a shot at retaking the Senate, and Tea Party GOP candidates in the US House lost two races for every race they won, which is a pretty crappy record for what was otherwise a big wave anti-incumbent year.
Nailed it.
The End of Commentary. All has been said.
The best thing about Bachmann is that she’s exposing the empty-suit-ism of Tim Pawlenty. Bachmann may be bonkers, but she’s cunning and she’s charismatic; she’s only been semi-officially running for president since December and she’s already overtaking Gutshot in the polls.
GOPers know Sarah can win in the Primary elections where the Fundies vote heavy and in many states run the GOP Primaries. They know that Fundy Leaders like Ralph Reed etc can’t deliver the fundies to the preferred GOP establishment candidate if Sarah runs.
The question is now who is the GOP preferred candidate? The question is just by just how much are the internal GOP polls of likely GOP primary voters showing Sarah will win?
Yeah, but she won’t be allowed to do that. Bachmann’s got dibs on that gig — her presidential run tease is all about boosting her war chest, and her access to well-heeled Fundies such as Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel. She wants to be the next Tom DeLay, minus the prison time.
Thats not hard Tim has no name recognition outside his home state even among political junkies like us at best he might be running for VP.
No she loves attention she will run as far as the work goes she is not thinking about that.
You got it. They’re afraid not just of the base, but of Sarah herself. She might attempt to grow a brain (unsuccessfully) and refuse to follow orders.
The GOP doesn’t want rogue loose cannon know it alls for their presidents. They like subservient docile puppets with no qualms about saying what they are told 100% of the time. Reagan had dementia/Alzheimer and it posed no problem particularly because the President is not a “decider” he is only a “do as you’re tolder”.
W was a simpleton who actually thought he was smart. He learned to please which he equated with brains. He was a perfect GOP candidate with no shame as he lied like a child to the masses, pleased as punch with his performance for the old bulls that ran him. Mc Cain was another Reagan like fellow in so far as he was a simple follower. Palin has no chance because she thinks she’s smarter than everyone.
You nailed it.
And the Repubs are supposedly the dumb ones.
SP: I won’t be ignored…
So who said the Barack Obama will be the Democratic candidate for President in 2012?
As far as I’m concerned, he and Sarah Palin have a lot in common: They both increased their own personal wealth more than 10 fold in the past two years when the rest of us (except for David Koch of course who increased his personal wealth by $4.5 billion. Palin’s net worth went from $1.2 million in Oct 2008 to a little over $12 million today. Obamas went from $799,000 in 2008 to a little over 10 million on April 15, 2010.
This does not bode well when according to a Jan. 2011 survey by Career Builder reported that 77% of all Americans now live paycheck to paycheck.
Those birthers who are trying to prove that “Obama is not one of us” would do a more convincing job by looking at his bank account instead of his birth certificate. AND while they are at it, they could add the 261 millionaires in Congress.
I agree with a poster above: GOP will figure out they need to put up a War DoD Rock Star for candidate. anyone famous in a uniform. Even McGrampyPants didn’t muck that up for everyone.
Ah, a class war within the GOP, finally. I wonder who wins…/s
Oh please, it is not Palin’s female sex that is her problem. IT is her narcissistic know it all-ness and immature reasoning that scares people. Besides the GOP just wants an empty suit for their presidents. A simple controllable zombie for the balcony. Palin’s too uncontrollable. Maybe if she gets dementia or a debilitating head injury she might be more interesting to the GOP.
Very good points and proves – yet again – how the ‘Baggerz have been confoodled into wasting everyone’s time & tax dollars on useless senseless court cases, etc about the Great Pretender’s birf sirtifiKat. Who cares about that?
Agree: have a look at O’s bank records; that’s much more “instructive” about power & control & what’s really going on in the USA.
No, they are mutually exclusive
Agree. I don’t care whether Palin is male or female. Palin is unqualified for the position of POTUS, but the GOP loves her bc she’s good a ginning up the base. They chose to handsomely reward Palin in order to keep her mind off running for office. Palin is too unpredictable and often says the “wrong thing” per what the PTB want. Bush is a legacy silver spoon do-do, who got enough “training” to be more disciplined & mostly hold his liquor and say more-or-less the correct thing (per Elite standards).
Palin is undisciplined and erratic. She can’t be trusted except in very very tightly controlled settings, and then she’s just being coached to speak from her cue cards or what’s written on her hand. When Palin lurches off the farm, what comes out of her mouth is often an embarressment to the PTB/elites (not to me).
I could care less about her gender. It’s just a factual reality about who Palin is a person.
The subservient zombie always wins with the GOP, with the exception of the full blown self serving sociopath which serves for the fame and power to abuse which the GOP is totally comfortable with.
The GOP really wants Obama. Obama has served them better than their trained idiot , W. They will let their dog, Newt, run with half hearted backing only because he would be just as heartless as Obama. But Newt is second choice because Obama is passing right wing legislation but letting the Dems take the heat for screwing the people for the elite. This is a wet dream for the REthugs so Im sure the GOP money will be fairly weak this cycle and no real candidates are gonna emerge.
Her undoing will come from the right. The even juicier snippet is the fact she may be on roger ailes’ shit list.
‘According to Sherman, though, Palin called Ailes before making the video. She complained that the media were blaming her for the shooting, and expressed a desire to respond to her critics. Ailes said that would be a bad idea.
“Lie low,” he said. “There’s no need to inject yourself into the story.” Sherman writes that Palin said her lawyer and other confidantes had given her the same advice. Of course, she didn’t follow that advice, and made the video. Ailes was not happy’
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/03/palin_ailes_tk.html
She will be on lou dobbs first show today so it will be interesting to see if she is locked and loaded
I filed an appeal at Huffington Post but it was censored after ‘pending’ for three hours.
Oh, thanks for painting that picture. I may hurl.
Palin’s correct (never thought I’d write those words) about the Bushes being blue bloods. She’s really stepping in it criticizing the Bush Royal Family. Look how the took down Dan Rather.
Certainly Palin is one of the most ignorant, dimwitted, flaky politicians in the US, and her election would be bad news. But would it really be worse news than Bush’s or Obama’s? Probably not, because they all answer to the same masters. When actors vote for Best Actor it’s called an Academy Award, but when the general public votes for the best actor it’s called democracy.
In any case, the actors may be different but the script is depressingly familiar.
