The Irish Rovers perform a medley of their most requested songs on their 1980′s television series Party With The Rovers.
What’s on your mind?
Is the Bulgarian judge here? Asshat.
ZED!
NOT Kris ya got me again… shiza!!
hey kris — he better not forking be — how ya doing tonight?
almost nahant — how’s deadwood city tonight?
ah, Suze, good ol’ Irish Rovers. I actually own an Irish Rovers LP – I was a little embarrassed because I love tradtional Iris music (more the Clancy Bros and early Chieftains, obscure fiddle players like Johnny McGreevey), but it has good stuff on it. *g*
Are you dried off and warmed up, I hope?
Ah! Black Velvet Band! A fave or mine, heard on the Irish music radio program in Boston lo, these many years ago.
chilling down… So hows the little Moma doing OK I hope?? You will be Granny soon ya know!!
My neighbor across the street is on “Baby Watch” right now.. It will be their second girl…
hey tejan — glad ya liked it. yes i am dried off and am wearing two layers of fleece along with socks, slippers and a fleece cap. put another log on the fire too
how ya doing tonight?
Loved your dive, Suzanne. You are the BEST. And it’s been a good week. Got my 93 year old dad resettled in a fabulous retirement community in Santa Barbara; was asked to perform my friends’ wedding (itinerant ULC minister since ’08), and threw some money in the FDL pot so happily. What a wonderful community.
Oh, and the twin grandbabyboys are doing ‘terrible twos’…but just barely. Couldn’t get enough of grammy, and then wept uncontrollably when I showed up (figured my appearance meant that their folks were going out.) We’ve weathered the worst of it.
And my cardiologist discharged me. Said I’m over my ‘broken heart syndrome’ and no longer need his services.
Good week, all in all.
*heh* Yep…! Suz has accused me of being the Bulgarian for quite some time…! Right Suz…?
Btw, Kris, you should have email…!
Aloha, Suz…! Another great clip…! ;-)
jen is starting to get worried about the small stuff now — tis natural given how close she is — 5 weeks to go as of today.
I’m fantabulous. Basking in the glow of my #Winning! moment from earlier today. As I already have a membership, I’m working with Ryan and Boxturtle to donate it to another commenter. It’s been a good day.
How about you?
hey dearie — twas good of you to offer a scholorship for a dive :) thank you
and woohoo that’s a hella good week dearie!!! whatcha gonna do to top it next week?
And now you have email!
It’s a wonderful life!
aloha tut — i saw on the twitter that japan had a 7.9 quake and there may be a tsunami warning for hawaii — are you in a tsunami hazard zone?
Oh, wow, I don’t remember that one! Love it!
I <3 Hockey!
The Sharks and Canucks are playing the game of my young life right now.
oh kris how wonderful of you!!!
i’m hanging in…. tis forking cold .. down to 43 out there and the wind has been blowing all day. last night was sustained 35.3 with stronger gusts. died down some today and the high wind warning has lifted but dayam that wind has a bite to it…
Weather = suck. I can’t complain, though. We’ve had partly cloudy and 65 here for the last few days.
And it’s shootout time! Black Thursday for the win.
ctuttle – aren’t you on a mountaintop or something? Safe from tsunamis, one hopes?
Next week: take my dad to his new doctor; visit family, cook up a storm; do some depositions. I wish I could say that I’d clean my house, but I just kinda know that that isn’t going to happen. :) I’m trying not to become that old lady with piles of newspapers in her house. Cancelled my subscription. You do what you gotta do, you know.
you are in the bay area right? i have a friend in novato who is tearing out her old kitchen (started demo today) and is planning on doing a lotta grilling until it is put back in order.
no forking way i could cook outdoors up here… there are times i do miss the mild bay area winters
Oh boy, MrCE is searching in our music library…
Love this clip! Hey Suz, pups.
Has been a great game so far… Now if they can only win the shoot out…
Still have my hockey skates from a long time ago..
the tillamook paper only publishes once a week so that alone helps me not become that woman… well, that and i use it for starting fires in the stove…
hey ce — how’s your cold?
hey margot — glad ya liked it. how ya doing tonight?
shit shit…
Yep, I’m in the lower-eastish Bay. Right off the east side of the Dumbarton Bridge.
It’s been nice weather. I’ve spent a few days this month hiking around Coyote Hills and the Don Edwards National Wildlife Preserve.
Sharks = fail. Great game, though. GREAT.
here’s the japan quake info from the usgs
i know that area well — very well indeed. when i had my youngest girl, i was living off ppp on the west side of 880 and east of dumbarton
Relativity. Phil Cunningham, Johnny Cunningham.
One of my fave Beatles, and highly under-appreciated IMO.
I’m fine, thanks, how about you? It’s snowing here; March sure is coming in like a lion.
Sure was.. at least they got 1 point out of it..
has been roaring like a lion here — the wind has been pretty constant. picked up a couple inches of rain last night and today but the weather dood says friday may be a dry day — and maybe even feature the sun!
Oh, Kris, you are young, aren’t you?
I never think of Eleanor Rigby as underappreciated, guess bc it was all over the radio all the time um, in “my day.” One of the majors, to me…maybe it was just me.
Then you know exactly where I am! I’m in Newark. Telling people who know the Bay Area that I live in Newark usually draws blank stares.
Oh snap…! That would suck…! brb…!
I am young. And it seems that nobody my age listens to the Beatles.
Idiots, I say.
I think CTuttle just ran outside to look out at the horizon…
I’m impressed. They went toe-to-toe with the best team in the NHL. I’m proud of ‘em tonight.
folks think of newark new joisey and get all glassy eyed…
twitter said cnn has live feed of the quake
In other Bay Area sports news, my defending World Champion San Francisco Giants are now 11-4 in Cactus League play :) Wonderful start to spring training.
HOLY SHIT Japan update: USGS upgrades quake measure to 8.8 magnitude
Dang you are less than ten miles away… Almost as close as Newt and egregious..
How long ago was this? There must be some heavy, heavy damage if this was on or near land.
Tokyo Narita Airport is closed
Yep, Deadwood City is a hop, skip, a *gagme* $5 toll, and a jump away!
just happened
Dayam, not good…! I guess they’re waiting on the first buoy readings…! *gah*
occurred just offshore.. here’s the map.. 150 kilometers east of land and it was shallow
My 18 year old niece and 15 year old nephew LOVE the Beatles, I’m happy to say :-)
Hi Suz and all, easing in late and hanging around at the Lake for a few.
from the updated to 8.8 usgs site

Ashkon don’t stop believing
hey ll — how ya doing tonight?
Damn. Really not good.
Crap. That’s going to generate waves. Any news of Tsunami forecasts for Japan?
I love it! I’ve got that bookmarked at home and work.
put cnn on live coverage.. devastating already big waves washing ashore already!!
Doing pretty well, thanks; we had some heavy storms roll through earlier in the evening but they’ve all moved out. Reports of some possible straight-line winds a few miles south of me, but no tornadoes.
Watching CNN coverage of the quake now, yikes!
i’m waiting for that too… i’m right on the bay — i’ve been checking the pacific tsunami warning center
Oh god.
tis informational warning for me at this time
Uh-oh.
Dearie @ 21: Info for you re diaries.
tut — per cnn hawaii is under a warning
My thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the quake, and positive vibes to all of you who live in or near the Pacific coastal areas.
hey mzchief — how’s your side of the coast range
Hawaii now under tsunami watch…
here’s the warning
Shit. CNN boy is saying this event could be similar to 2004. Shit.
Oh lordy…
from twitter:
REUTERSFLASH
Tsunami of 4 meters hits pacific coast of Japan
Kind of a sad camper in this particular moment …
Japan is issuing warnings for 6 meter waves. From my limited understanding of tsunami phenomenon, they build over distance, especially across deeper water. So the outlying islands south and west are in more danger.
Yeah, my understanding too. Saw this interview of a surfer who was out in just the right place to survive that level of tide rushing in.
Good gawd – is that live feed on CNN? Boats crashing into a bridge – NHK in upper corner of screen (Japan tv, right?)
tis very sad news… the video cnn is showing is forking scary… smoke rising from buildings
that’s not live — they’ve showed it a couple diff times but it is from right after the quake when the first wave hit
Please don’t let that bridge go out…
Yeah, footage from a few minutes back.
We’re already contemplating what we’re going to pack…! Btw, I’ll try to live blog about my possible looong nite…! ;-)
That appears to be a roughly 150ft long building floating along.
How close are you to the coast?
Wow, that’s a lot of floating cars. And that’s live picture.
my plans are to grab token, bailey cat, my laptop, cellphone and high tail it in the car up to cape lookout above the 800′ line…. but that’s only if the sirens start to blare…
Yep, devastating :-(
BREAKING NEWS – CNN live anchor says “We don’t want to go down the path of speculation here. At all.”
/GlitchInTheMatrix?
from twitter its footage of the tsunami wave hitting Onahama
Good plan Suz, hope it doesn’t come to that for you but at least you’ve got something in mind.
Guess ya can’t fuck with Mother Nature… she will get ya every time!!
A twelve foot wall of water will not be kind to Hilo town…! 8-(
6.4 after shock. Shit.
here’s the latest from pacific tsunami center
It would appear you’ve got your priorities straight *g*
Hope it doesn’t come to that for anyone here.
Aloha CT, do you and yours have somewhere you can evac to if necessary?
from aj twitter:
Hilo bay is my backyard, literally…!
Ctuttle – stay safe – prayers and good thoughts for you and everyone in HI.
Is mauimom still on the mainland?
CNN scroll – YEN falls sharply after quake.
Is Wall Street awake? Way to short-sell a country, fuckwads.
here’s the hawaii specific warning:
Damn, you should probably be heading uphill right now, then, shouldn’t you?
And Suze, should you wait? I’m going to worry about both of you until we hear from y’all tomorrow…
its hours before anything would come ashore here in oregon…. is why i’m watchiing hawaii first…
here’s a live NHK (japan tv station) english tv stream
Shitty thing about Newark? Where I sit right now I’m 9 ft below sea level :(
Any appreciable rise above high-tide lines in the SF Bay and we get flooding.
Quake just upgraded to 8.9
8.9 upgrade… Shit…
They have evacuation centers available to set up in a heartbeat…! As the night progresses and data becomes available they’ll mobilize accordingly…!
I’ll add to that 9 feet below sea level, .4 miles from the water line at the south-eastern end of the bay.
It’s a really bad idea to literally gamble on and making a profit off others suffering and death … no different than the psychotic Romans throwing folks to the lions.
oh shit, i missed you snagging the 100 kris…. congrats!!!
Crap. Anything headed to south central california coast? I used to think I could at least get over the dunes to the east, but then the property owner put up a fuckin’ wire fence that keeps us off his dunes….and through the escape route. I’m in the tsunami zone.
Good, CT, you know what to do — and I’ll be holding you all in my thoughts that you stay safe!
We’ll give that hat-tip to your link.
nothing for mainland us yet… they are still evaluating.. waiting to see how the wave builds and what the bouys record out to sea
Well, that’s good to know. Even so…these pictures are extremely disturbing. Guess we don’t usually have aerial views in real time – this is incredible.
I’m also amazed that the Indonesia quake/tsunami was six years ago! I’d have guessed maybe three..
The boats being flipped next to that bridge, the water and debris hitting the earth wall of the highway….just unbelievable. I was just about to go to bed, but am awake now.
Yes, terrible. I can’t believe currency speculators are already slamming the Asian markets. 30 minutes after the quake.
Yeah, it really doesn’t seem all that long ago does it? Incredible.
west coast tsunami warning center has not issued anything yet for mainland us
was in 2004 — just 2 months after i retired from the pd
Unbelievable footage, this is real-time, folks…
heartbreaking…
Mauimom is in Upcountry Maui so she’s safe and sound, tj…!
Gawd, those are live pictures too. Water still moving inland.
whew.. thanks tut
I can’t shake the thought that I’m watching peoples’ lives and livelihood disappear. Right now.
just got email notification they just had a 6.8 aftershock
Indeed :-(
Water hitting that road. Looks like heavy traffic. Shit shit shit.
msnbc is showing the same feed that cnn is
unreal damage.. you can see drivers getting overtaken by the water,,, they are toast..
Shit…just awful, indescribably sorrowful.
Yeah–pix are of farmland, but there are farmhouses..can’t help thinking of people in the houses, seeing it coming..terrifying.
Oh shit it’s moving in on more cars :(
Geophysicist on MSNBC says one of the 5 largest quakes in the history of scientific measuring.
It’s how the international (and our national piece of the) system is designed to function and how speculators are allowed to roll. And we all wonder why the US and several other countries are engulfed in unending war at the expense of the welfare of the citizenry.
dayam
Being an east coaster, I’m not all that well-versed about earthquakes and their magnitude. 8.9 for this one, do any of you in or from CA know what the highest magnitude out there would have been?
Highest on record, I believe, is 9.5 for the 2004 Indian Ocean quake.
Correction, 9.5 was Chile in 1960.
9.1 for 2004 Quake.
Wiki.
Fuck…at this point 8.9 vs 9.5 isn’t that much different…
iirc 1968 Alaska a 9.6…
A 9.5 is stronger, as far as energy released, by a factor of about 20.
8.9 is the official number now.
anything over 8.0 is considered a ‘great quake’ with probable major loss of life and damage to property
’65 Alaksa? 8.6
Oh wow…hard to fathom!
It’s the NHK english feed…!
JHFC, as Southern Dragon might say. So scary.
scroll down to see the list of major earthquakes
thanks tut
hey senator — how ya doing tonight?
I see they’ve already updated that list to include this one. Wow.
wiki is forking fast
email notification of a 7.1 aftershock just occurred
Fuck!
That flooded airport is just – stunning. Couldn’t figure out what it was til I saw the jetways..in the water.
Wow, it was a 10 metre sized tsunami that hit Japan…! A 30 ft wall of water…! 8-(
holy moly what are those domes that are on fire? chemical factory? oil refinery?
Well hoping for the best for our Japanese friends…
Nite Pups not a way to end the day but the bed is calling…
Damn this is not fun to watch… there are people in that water that is sweeping inland..
cnn just said its an oil refinery
omg, fire at an oil refinery
g’nite nahant
nite nahant, take care
Niters nahant.
There’s not enough foam in the world to put out that oil refinery fire…jeezus.
Suzanne:
They are updating the Tsunami warning to include the pacific coast. It will be a number of hours before it will hit the pacific coast, if it does at all. If you should feel any earthquake, I would suggest going inland as fast and as far as possible. Preferably to a high point on Hwy 6.
We are watching this closely.
My good thoughts go out to the people in Japan.
another 6.3 aftershock
I’m with you.
Okay… It’s official now…! I have to be packed up and out of here by 1am here, 3 1/2 hrs from now…!
hey speakingupnow — i won’t have shaking to feel here on the oregon coast but i will have tsunami sirens… and my downstairs neighbor is a volunteer firefighter and he will get paged out… i’m monitoring the west coast tsunami warning center and no warning has been issued yet. hawaii is still investigating and no evacuation order has been issued yet
whereabouts are you? are ya in a tsunami hazard area?
fuck…. take care tut
Put the after burners on d00d. Report back when you can. More good thoughts your way …
Go with God, CT, safe travels to you and your family, please let us know how you are if possible!
Suz, if you need inland shelter I am happy to accommodate you and “the kids” …
aw thanks mzchief — i would head to my daughter’s in beaverton if it comes to that…
I’ve got to bail – pretty late here.
Ctuttle, Suzanne, KrisinCA, dearie – everyboyd on a coast with any chance of getting hit with tsunami, please take care and get to a safe place.
Our prayers are with you all.
Good night.
g’nite tejan
‘niters tejanarusa.
nite tejana
CNN crawl says quake was felt as far away as Beijing, holy crap…
here’s the hawaii warning and estimated times of arrival
hiya, Suzzzz, firegods
Suze! Pups! It’s my “friday night!” ::happy dance”"
suze, i saw your dive while i was on coffee break, forkin awesome! I don’t care what that idiot bulgarian says. He must be a teabagger.
and in other news, i can hardly wait til i have my DFH card!
hey ppd how ya doing tonight?
((( CT and all Hawai’ians )))
hey ndfg — how ya doing tonight? turn on cnn, we are all watching live feed of that horrible quake in japan… tut just got his evacuation order in hawaii — he’s got a couple hours to get to high ground still
hi PPD and ndfg
estimated arrival times for the west coast… nothing due here until after 7am — this looks like a computer generated list — still gonna depend on the size of the wave from the ocean buoys
i saw it on my earthquake link at work, how awful! I am praying for all the folks affected. and for sure, sending good wishes toward the tuttle family!
from twitter:
fox12oregon
RT @pdxfox12EP From National Weather Service: Tsunami Watch issued for Oregon and Washington Coast. No word on how big, if any wave would be
Suz, better pack you a little go-kit for you and Token and Bailey just in case…wish I were closer, you could stay here!
hoping everyone to the west of us is safe and sound
Thanks for the update, Suz. They denote Santa Barbara and Santa Monica……Oxnard, more than just a pretty name, never gets any attention. I’ll be attending nonetheless. And caring for all effected.
*waves* so much fun seeing your name pop up in the “likes” on the various links i look at on facebook. I’m especially loving the tractorcade planned for saturday.
i’ve switched over to the fox12 local news station for more details.. they are showing the same feed as cnn and msnbc but local anchors are speaking.
am hoping to get more info re the local warning
*waving back* man, I wish I could attend that tractorcade, or even just be in Madison and get a pizza from Ian’s!
i know what i’m taking and i can be out the door and on the road withing a few minutes… i’m gonna travel lightly with just the critters and my laptop and cellphone
Very good Suz, years of law enforcement experience helps that too!
One more demonstration as to why NOAA/NWS should never, ever be “privatized.”
Word.
looks like Monterey’s timing is about 8 in the morning
KATU had a woman from the Tsunami Warning Center stating they were about to update the information to include Alaska, B.C., Washington, Oregon, and California. This may be a long night before I feel comfortable enough to sleep. Let’s keep each other posted if anything comes up.
ROAD TRIP!
deal — whereabouts are you? in tillamook county? i’ve had it on fox12
heh, wish I could! Maybe someday…I’ve a friend in NE Iowa who goes to Mad City quite a bit, maybe I could meet him there sometime.
In town.
i’m on the south end of netarts bay and my plan was to head up to cape lookout…. up to the highest possible ground up there…. i can get up there within a few minutes
The tsunami warning says 7.9, but USGS says 8.9 — that’s a difference times 10. Is CT moving to higher ground?
Glad you’re that close to higher ground Suz!
This use of “Word” is new to me … I’m not sure what it means.
just got a call from my worried unka jim in texas…. i reassured him i’m watching and i have a plan so he doesnt have to stay up all night worrying
tis an agreement with what the previous person said
oh sorry, it’s sort of slang for “I agree”
Aw, nice of Unka Jim to check in with you :-)
If there is a big earthquake in Netarts, time would be very limited so I agree that going to the highest ground possible at Cape Lookout would be your best bet. But, if it occurs elsewhere and you have an hour or two to evacuate, go to the summit of highway 6. That is what I will be doing if it came to an evacuation.
is there an ETA yet for your area? Do they sound sirens for that kind of thing like they do for tornados in the midwest? Scary thinking of folks sleeping and not knowing about the danger.
thanks speaking….
Well, the Civil Defense alarms have gone off…!
estimated 726 am for tillamook bay…. yes, there are sirens like you have with tornadoes.
twitter feed just said they are activating the honolulu tsunami sirens
Get those bags packed hon…
what’s the eta for hawaii, Suzzzz?
here’s the west coast estimated arrival times
0259 hawaii time
I’m packed, with all the better half’s meds and linen and some food…! naturally, the missus just had to do a load of laundry…! D’oh…! ;-)
portland office emergency management said portland and its rivers (columbia wilamette etc) should not be affected
wishing you and your family safe passage, CT — a 3 am event is particularly dangerous for safe mobilization.
lol! We all have our priorities ;-)
They’re saying the ETA for Hilo town is 0339…!
speaking — thanks for the katu suggestion.. much better coverage
Hopefully it will miss your area completely and you can safely return home tomorrow….
thanks tut..
I’d better text my brother who’s visiting from the east coast — just in case.
{{{ tuttle family }}} stay safe!
yes.
if he’s in portland he’s got nothing to worry about
shit, that oil refinery fire is getting worse and worse, nothing the firefighters can do when it’s that big
surround and drown, as they say in the fire service
assuming they have the manpower and are not working other incidents…
dayam that’s gotta be a helpless feeling
Mauimom?
(((CT)))
exactly, they may be just letting this one go and concentrating on life safety
hey ls — tut said earlier that she was already up on high ground at her house
hi LS, glad you’re here with us girl :-)
EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL
QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE
CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED
BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH
TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
0259 AM HST FRI 11 MAR 2011
MESSAGES WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER AS CONDITIONS WARRANT.
http://www.weather.gov/ptwc/
I need to sleep, but it’s hard to tear myself away from this incident — don’t need to be anywhere until mid afternoon Fri so I’ll stick around for a few more
This is just awful!! Just last night I was looking at the quake reports and noticed an increasing number of strong quakes in that area of the “ring of fire”…watch out West Coast, because sometimes there are strong quakes that “mirror” ones on the other side of the ring.
Hope the nuke plants are intact.
Sorry about the all caps…it was cut and paste..didn’t realize it would come out like that…
It is terrible for sure :-( Suz and other pups have some evac plans in place in their locations on the west coast.
west coast tsunami link says no present danger expected in the morning, Suzzz
Suzanne @ 217 and LoudounLib @ 218: Thank you for that explanation.
LoudonLib @ 241: To my knowledge … you are correct.
1,000 X stronger than Haiti…Gawd. Mother Nature is not happy.
first prediction for west coast:
mz, full disclosure, I’m a fire dept dispatcher ;-)
18 total quakes so far in japan per twitter:
holy shit…
BreakingNews twitter
fucking crazy…
fox12oregon
I must say that CNN is doing a great job in the wee hours covering this story.
good lord, they are getting hammered then
could be bad news for the giant artichoke in castroville, Suzzz
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html
Interesting to look at the patterns the last couple of days…Hawaii just had a bunch of small ones..and a volcano eruption the other day..
tis horrible, simply horrible
dayam.. i love that giant articoke
first waves should be hitting oregon coast after 7am.. predictions wave will be bigger at crescent city, ca per local fox12 anchor
hate to tear myself away, but I gotta. Suz and all other west coast pups, please be careful and my thoughts are with you!
Oh wow. A firefighter in your county once told me how much more dangerous it is for firefighters to do their jobs in the DC Metro area due to the lowering of construction standards. I understand that basically the Multi Dwelling Units (condo/apartment complexes) built during the last housing boom are guaranteed to collapse killing the occupants and any firefighter going inside. :-(
Niters LoudounLib.
noaa has issued the west coast info
g’nite ll
G’nite Suz…take care!
Wide awake…
The Tsunami Advisory continues in effect for the coastal areas of Alaska from Chignik Bay, Alaska to Attu, Alaska.
The Tsunami Watch continues in effect for the coastal areas of California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the California-Mexico border to Chignik Bay, Alaska.
was just watching a vid, i’m assuming from a japanese news channel helicopter … just heartbreaking seeing the water rush in and sweep cars and buildings along in a mad race, and showing more waves on the way.
i’m wide awake and not going to sleep until i know what to do
33 ft. wave hit Japan…29 countries will be affected by tsunamis..not that big hopefully…per CNN
one thing about Japan, their infrastructure is top rate, unlike the crumbling D rating U.S. infrastructure gets from our professional civil engineer association research. We’re about a trillion dollars behind the curve.
Oh good, I thought you said gnite…but you said it to ll…D’oh
Holy cow. 33 feet?!
japan would get hit the hardest being the closest… we will know more about the west coast as the waves hit hawaii and noaa will fine tune the warnings/evacuation orders etc for various west coast locations.
right now the estimate is 3′ for oregon coast but that is subject to change depending on what happens in hawaii
Freaky footage on CNN of a boat that seems to be getting sucked into a sort of whirlpool thingy…WTF is that?
missed it watching the local portland news…. maybe from the water changing directions
The 33′ one was the big wave that already hit Japan…I didn’t mean something like that would hit elsewhere…should have been more clear..
local news anchor just said hawaii could have a one to two meter series of waves (3 to 6 ft) based on bouy readings
They’re saying it’ll be a 6ft face with damage expected…!
*heh* Ya beat me…! ;-)
i feel like i’ve had a dozen gallons of coffee — running on adrenaline right now and my cup has been empty for more than an hour — haven’t been able to tear myself away from the tv to go refill it (and i don’t think i need any more stimulation for a while)
fast fingers dood — how goes your getting ready to evacuate? where you gonna go?
Holy shirt, I just had an earthquake…! 8-(
dood…. how big?
Oh no.
Crazy night for sure…I’m drinkin’ coffee too…the damage in Japan must be just catastrophic..it is completely surreal.
night all – stay safe
i’m all jittery and haven’t had a drop in a while… guess i should make a new pot — its gonna be a long nite
g’nite ppd
i’ve been catching up on the news feeds i couldn’t watch at work, yikes. No wonder you’re full of adrenaline. Glad you have a plan in place.
and ct, thanks for keeping us informed, but skeedaddle in good time!
CT…WTheck are you doing still there? Are you heading out soon? Hope you don’t get damage at home.
I don’t want to make light of this, but, as you know, if there is one thing we know how to deal with in this area, it’s flooding…
OK, where is CT?
tut’s quake was a 4.5
3 maybe 4 on the richter scale… We’re packed and about to head to the assembly area…! I’ll keep ya’ll posted along the way…! Have laptop, will blog…! ;-)
true dat…. lotsa experience with flooding and moving to higher ground
Went to higher ground.
stay safe dood
Does Hawaii get quakes often?
My old place got flooded here in TX..basically by a humungous wave on top of a flooding river…lost almost everything I had. Terrifying.
Put a post up on the earthquake early.
