FDL now its first friendly ghost.
I dont understand why people keep on taking videos from the fraud as serious. Additionally, besides “NPR doesnt need federal financing” the guy didnt say anything that was untrue. Why does the media act like this is even worse than anything charlie sheen has been saying?
Is there actually any person with two functioning lobes that thinks newty is a viable candidate? I saw clips of his Iowa speech talking all about morality. With a straight face. He is, was and will always be a morality void.
Good morning pups and thanks for the post BT.
Does FDL have an iPhone app?
Hi, Old….I think you mentioned you had seen the Molly Ivins story….I saw it last night. Hope we find a time to reflect….What a woman.
Only Newt takes Newt seriously.
“Welfare”? “Handouts”? Apart from these programs essentially being public insurance policies that we pay for through payroll with holdings, maybe if the rich bastards hadn’t blown up the economy through their greed and uncontrolled avarice, we wouldn’t have need for so much “welfare”.
God I hate rich people when they get whiny.
And the “liberal” media….
Not sure that ‘seriously’ includes reporting his absurdities.
Really. And, it’s such a no brainer. I’m pretty sure everyone who receives a paycheck notices the deductions. So, why would anyone consider these programs a “handout”? Oh, yeah, there’s a lot of teh stupid out there. Good Grief.
Good Morning Everydog.
I miss her something awfull.
Knowing they’ll never need those programs, rich people resent those pennies coming out of their compensation. Ya gotta be a little bit of a sociopath to subscribe to that narrow view. No doubt should they ever need those programs, things would be entirely different. They would deserve them you see.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Schiller of NPR is just another example of an out-of-touch elitist. Didn’t anybody check on the validity of the organization these 2 fucks said they were representing? When arranging the meeting did they mention they wanted to give big bucks to NPR? Did that cause Schiller and others to throw caution to the wind, particularly with the repeated incidents of edited videos of “liberals” floating around? No wonder NPR is so fucked up.
My all time favorite line from Molly: “As of right now it’s illegal in the state of Texas for a prick to touch an asshole”, (when two Republicans were high fiving each other on the floor of Congress).
Bush stacked NPR with political appointees and ideologues from such places as Liberty University. Obama still hasn’t done anything toward getting rid of Bush’ ideological appointees in government. That may have been my first real disappointment from him and it’s still an important one.
Morning BT & Firebagging Miscreants of teh Professional Left.
Anyone who has not seen “Inside Job” should put it at the top of the queue. You’re going to get pissed off all over again, however. Consider yourself warned.
I don’t find at all amusing that the only people allowed to talk about Social Security on the teevee are people that DO NOT pay SS with holdings on 100% of their income like most of us. Was subject to a clip of Allen Simpson calling SS insolvent this morning. Followed of course by the empty headed Mika claiming “he makes a lot of sense.” Fucking idiots, liars and thieves all.
And the play had her quote Ann Richards about a debate over the Nativity scene on the Capitol grounds….about the only time 3 wise men would be over there….What a pair of TX gals…..
Judging from the quotes given at BT’s link, I’d say this one wasn’t a Bush appointee.
Such a brilliant mind. Every column, book and essay remains a treasure.
O’Keefe’s “journalism” stings are illegal, unethical, immoral, and a perfect example of what slime makes up the Tea Party and the GOP. House Republicans will surely use this as more ammunition to defund public broadcasting and give the money to Fixed News through tax breaks for Murdoch…

Heh, Schiller doesn’t sound like a big supporter of Shrub. He’s still a fuckin’ idiot, though.
What pisses me off most about the Schiller story is the fact that the diseased little fuck James O’Keefe has now been re-elevated into the national spotlight, and thus given a patina of credibility. The Feds should have jailed the little shit when they had the chance. I’m sure he would have been a hit with all the boys in the yard…
Irrelevant to my point though, which was the the quality of leadership at NPR has suffered and nothing has been done to restore it.
Such an original….
Sorta like the majority of forced birthers we see are male. One of the talk shows on WMNF had a local Planned Parenthood woman on and every forced birther who called in was male. Patriarchs much? Assholes.
If anyone wishes to go to the source, here it is. I’d recommend that you keep a vomit bag close by.
We all know we have a make believe democracy and a fake media which is nothing but a propaganda organ for the elite who are the overlords in the New Feudalism.
We need to PHYSICALLY kick this a holes out. We need to show up, as McGovern did at every place they speak and appear and “get in their faces” so they know we are hip to their bullbleep. We need to hound them at every TV studio and hotel and corporate headquarter, government office until there is nowhere to hide.
I was thinking that just yesterday. This is the result of rich people not suffering any consequences for their misbehavior: no incentive to change.
The Democrats are (deliberately) spineless. Remember ACORN. Hope this doesn’t turn out badly for NPR.
Meanwhile, some of the crazies probably want Schiller thrown into Quantico for aiding the enemy. He thought he was talking to Muslims after all.
If Mika says something makes sense to her, you need to take a hard look at it. Even her own father called her and he co-host “remarkably shallow”.
I wanna be that when I grow up!
Absolutely. Vichycrats, one and all. They would rather flush away everything they supposedly stand for because they are too afraid to fight for it.
Don’t worry about Schiller, he has a nice new gig at The Aspen Institute to keep the paychecks flowing.
Good morning all.
I’ve met you. Mission accomplished. :)
Hey Margaret, etal:
dwainlowther@earthlink.net
Pass it around to other FDLers. Anyone else, feel free to pick it up…
Hey Mods: Wipe this out after Margaret picks it up.
Copy?
(blushing over here)
Good morning Peg.
Got it, thanks.
It’s definitely bad press for NPR in the current environment. However, they do have some fairly heavy-duty endowments, do I’m sure they’ll be alright, although they may tend to tack even more to the right and/or bland side. “Oh boy! Instant pudding for dinner! Again!”
Morning back. How is your wonderful wife?
Okie Dokie. Pass it around. Thanks.
Hey, Margaret. Last night I read that you got a second interview. Is that set up? This is very exciting for you.
Yo Demi: Check #36…
NPR takes lotsa money from the Kochs. I’m sorry but that affects their credibility very negatively from my point of view. I remember when they did what they called “A Week of Conservative Thought”, when they had such luminaries as Newt and Norquist on but they never did a corresponding Week of Liberal Thought. Haven’t paid much attention to them since.
No, it’s not set up yet but I got a phone call from the guy telling me there will be one.
You are now in my address book. Thanks, Shoto. I love a person who exhibits follow through habits. :)
She was very sick over the week end but was feeling better yesterday.
Holdin good thoughts for ya on the potential interview.
Heh. Rather than the USG defunding NPR & PBS, they should up their funding. Since both have high listener & viewership (friend told me NPR is fastest growing radio station; not sure I believe that, but whatever), the USG could use them for propaganda under the guise of neutrality.
I wish FDL did have an iPhone app, but I don’t think so.
It’s such great news. Imagine that the universe practices random acts of brilliance once in a while.
Another question. Does Necko like to travel by car? You could have an assistant.
Bernie Sanders on WashJournal totally blitzing Alan Simpson’s idiocy. And talking about our surplus monies being the SS reality.
Very good news.
Feeling much better thoughts being sent out to sweet and smart cbl.
feeling waaaaay better (almost normal) :D
Mornin’ All
Someone send Schiller an invitation. He’s found an echo chamber.
Is this a movie?
Oh, you just reminded me of the toast an old gf and I used to share. Everyone’s upping their income, Up Yours!
LOL, that’s a keeper
Inside Job was excellent!
Hey you. See how fast and effective my comment worked? Ha. Hugs to you.
Yesterday I was thinking about the time I saw an ancient pillow lava from the Archean Era that was estimated at about 3500Ma and I was thinking how awed I was to be seeing, (but not allowed to touch), something so ancient. Something that had been around for so long. That’s when it occurred to me that I touch something far more ancient every day. We all do. (Almost) Every drop of water we have ever touched, consumed, swum in, fished from, evacuated and etc. is at least 4500Ma because it formed about the same time the rest of the dust in the solar system came together and recycled endlessly since then. The only exceptions are the tiny bits of water made by combining hydrogen and oxygen to make water for astronauts to use. The came back to Earth and urinated, respired and otherwise did what people do and some new water entered the system for the first time ever. These things fascinate me no end.
Hope she gets better soon. Please give her my love!
Great news! (Missin you terribly this morning)
good lord, how low is the effing bar – Reagan at least attacked Endowment for the Arts via the great Mapplethorpe, these clowns go with spitballer O’Keefe ?!?!
WooHoo! That’s good and now I can give you love myself. (((cbl)))
Love the pic but Kuroneko hates the car.
((((right back atcha)))))
and (((demi))) kitteh was purrfect antidote to the Let’Em Eat Cake Hour on my teevee
Is this you, Shoto?
I figured that was the case, but it was a good moment for a funny cat picture. Who doesn’t love a funny cat picture?
Molly Ivins:
It’s always a good moment for a funny kitteh picture. Thank you! :)

Spot on. As she always was.
That is too funny, demi!
G’morning! Raining here, on the one day I practically HAVE to walk to get lunch between volunteer “gigs.” SIGH.
GF: At MEND, they get day old cakes, or cakes where they message was wrong or something. The full sheet kind, and they distribute them to people who are celebrating a birthday or an anniversary. When I see these folks with their cakes, I always think of Marie Antoinette. But, I’m also happy to see that they can celebrate just like anyone else.
At the U, right? Take your umbrella or a rain bonnet. I don’t know why I suggested that, since you’ve probably walked in rain before. Molly!
as they should :D
just so stunning to see these clowns all making a min. of $250k telling 57 year old physical laborers that it’s perfectly “sensible” for them to wait another 10 years to collect ss
It’s definitely kiss my ass, mf’s time.
Another 13 years actually. There is a growing push to up the age to 70 but then the goal has always been to strip people who work of any and all social safety nets.
Yes, at the Performing Arts Center. Docent duty 11 – 1 and then an event at 2. I have “wash & wear” hair, tho…
Hey look, Vivian Schiller joins her husband in the “Used to work for NPR” category. Imagine that.
Yes, I actually thought of that. Curly works better with the wet. Me? Straight hair is the pits in the rain. Not that I’m all that into how I look so much these days. *g*
Morning Pups,
Enjoying my desk-side window view of 1/2 inch per hour heavy wet snow, back end of the low pressure system blowing from the NE off Lake Michigan. Nice to follow the comments and wishing everyone a good day.
This is a debate we can win though just like the debate on collective bargaining. We just need to keep pointing out that money was withheld from people’s check and that there is a huge stack of IOUs that our government is not going to get out of paying back.
The main reason why NPR’s listernship is rising is that the other stations no longer do any news at all. Some kind of public service programmes were supposed to be the price they pay for polluting the air waves; now they just get to pollute for free. I listen to NPR when I’m driving down the country, but otherwise not. They are about the level of your average network newscast ca 1970. Better than nothing, but nothing is a low bar. I won’t give them a cent. They should abandon the fucking enterprise and give the stations back to the colleges, where you could get good commentary. That or have Boston, Chicago, NY, Seattle, San Francisco and LA set up their own consortium, and cut the slugs who put Cokie Robertson on every monday morning. NPR is a travesty.
I agree – the current rightward spin – the rightwing shows with no offset of an equivalent show from the left – has become annoying -
In Boston local commentary is respectful in interviews of the right, but they do challenge assertions of facts not in evidence or any that are contested.
Down south away from a university station I get a lot of classical music – and none of the discussion one gets in Boston.
Give it back to the universities and hand out a few high power after 6 pm licenses to those kids – indeed do this in AM and FM. I really dislike the fact of near zero stations – or 5000 watt stations it seems- with NPR/straight talk as right wing talk (and radio preachers) drowns out both AM and FM discussion shows in the south
