It turns out that the budgets produced by the White House and Congress in no way resemble the budget Americans would write. The biggest difference is that the public would significantly cut the military, while the White House and Congress would increase it.
There are lots of other differences too…. The public would more than double investment in renewable energy and conservation, while the President would increase it only 44% and the House Republicans would cut it by 36%. The public would increase spending on controlling pollution by 17%, while Obama would cut it by 13% and the House would cut it by 39%. The public would more than double spending on job training while Obama would cut it slightly and the Republicans cut it substantially. The public would boost higher education spending by 92% while Obama would only raise it 9% and the Republicans cut it 26%…. The public and the President both want to cut subsidies to big agriculture, but the public is alone in wanting that funding to assist small farmers.
(…)
And here’s the big gap between the people and the politicians. The public wants to raise more money by cutting the military and by taxing the wealthy, taxing wealthy estates, taxing corporations, taxing alcohol, taxing soft drinks, taxing hedge fund managers’ income, and by charging a crisis fee to large banks. A plurality of 49% of the public also wants to tax carbon dioxide emissions. A strong majority does not want a sales tax. The White House and Congress, in contrast, prefer a combination of going into debt and slashing basic services. The public reduces the deficit dramatically. The President increases it, and Congress leaves it about where it was before.
How about that. Us poor, dumb ordinary folks figured out how to cut the deficit without screwing over the poor, the sick, or the elderly, but all those big brains we elected to represent our interests in this big ol’ complicated world are completely stumped. But how can that be? Especially when the solutions are so simple and obvious?
Oh wait, I know: Most of us aren’t millionaires receiving obscene amounts of money and lucrative job prospects from fellow millionaires, billionaires and giant corporations in exchange for protecting their interests above all others. Why yes, I think that just might be it. See also: Jon’s excellent post about how a majority of “center-right” Americans favor policies which are far too leftist and extreme to be considered by Serious People.
As I said a couple of years ago, money has unnaturally constrained the boundaries of our political discourse:
Need to slash greenhouse emissions to prevent the ice caps from melting? You have to do it without hurting the energy companies.
Need to rescue the economy and reform the financial system? You have to do it without hurting Wall Street.
Need to make healthcare affordable and available to everyone? You have to do it without hurting the insurance companies.
Need to reform campaign finance? You have to do it without diminishing the influence of the corporations or the advantages of incumbency.
It is virtually impossible to achieve meaningful reform within such nonsensical parameters.
I guess now I can add: Need to reduce the national debt? You have to do it without cutting defense spending or raising taxes on corporations or rich people.
Or, alternatively: Do we need to reduce the national debt? OMG YES, right away or we will all DIE!!! Oh, and cut my taxes.

Not at all funny.
There’s a fundamental disconnect btw democracy (one person, one vote) and capitalism (one dollar, one vote).
It’s very simple. Capitalism wins every time. Not funny. No mystery whatsoever.
Well, you will note that I did translate “funny”.
Aloha, Eli…! We simply have the best Congre$$ money can buy…!
*head-desk*
ELI!
Just took a poll about how I feel about the economy in this country. I pretty much agree with the rest of the public. I just wish some of the responses had added, “and I think the President and The Congress are so corrupted by money that they are worse than ineffective”.
ELI!
Ultimately these imbalances won’t stand. They won’t, because they can’t.
Awesome, Eli.
Yep, like a one legged stool, the only question is how long it will take to tip over.
On O’Donnell this evening. The White House has instructed the DNC to not share email lists or act in any other way in support of the unions in Wisconsin.
Aloha, CTut…!
MARGARET!
KELLY!
Pro-union = anti-business. Can’t have that.
I consider myself to be center-right, actually. I think supporting gay marriage is a conservative idea because it honors the Constitution and allows people to make their own decisions absent the government’s interference in their lives. I also believe supporting a woman’s right to choose is a conservative idea by definition.
If politicians weren’t so corrupt and ass-backward we might all be republicans.
Well, there’s this thing called analysis.
Which among other matters, involves objective evaluation of incoming data.
I observe on FDL a rejection of presunmably objective measures of what is happening in the U.S. economy bc it doesn’t agree with the accepted leftie scenario.
Heckuvajob, Brownie.
Les Etats Unis n’est pas drole. Il est un pays tragique.
Jeez, I’m starting to feel like Eric Alterman…
What about those comfortable shoes, I mean, does he think we can’t remember anything he said when he campaigned? I really am sick to death of this.
I’m more concerned with my own economy at the moment to be honest. Though it may seem a bit self centered, I couldn’t care less about the fat cats and the investors on Wall Street. Here’s some bad news: The only thing that trickles down is when they are pissing all over the rest of us. Jobs are still scarce to impossible and increasing GDP and Wall Street profits don’t make up for that in my world. I’m sure thinking of their record bonuses will be a great source of comfort to me when I’m living under a bridge. This weak I suffered a couple of really deep gouges in my left hand. Why? because I’m currently doing a space remodel for some friends because that’s what I’m stuck with right now – physical labor, despite the fact that I’m 50 and a trained scientist. How’s that for “analysis”?
If I am misinterpreting your comment then let me apologize but I really don’t give half a rat’s ass about “analysis” done by people who aren’t struggling just to pay rent for a one bedroom apartment.
Eli!
Buzz!
We’ve been hijacked.
Le pays demande un revolution autrement ils sont perdu.
Explain?
What’s missing from your incoming information and analysis is riding the bus.
I’m serious.
I ride the bus/train combo to work, and the people on the bus are PISSED OFF. You’ll never see their side their opinions in your incoming data, because they have no official voice.
The PTB ignore this at their peril.
Another reason that the PTB don’t want mass transit. We forkin’ talk to one another. It creates a sense of community. They want us stuck in our little portable living rooms that we pull into our driveways with and, then, go to our bigger living rooms and turn on the teevee. No sense of community equals no power. That and the oil thing.
It’s not that it’s being rejected because it doesn’t fit our “lefty scenario” (btw, are you suggesting lefties WANT the economy to tank?? WTF), it’s being rejected because it doesn’t fit what our lying eyes are telling us.
The “data” you refer to insists inflation is not a problem. Ask folks who shop for groceries twice a week what they think. The “data” insists unemployment is dropping, yet the same “data” insists labor participation is at it’s lowest level in quite some time.
Perhaps the “data” is not as objective as presumed????
Don’t forget talk radio on the commute…
It’s the same old thing. People who have never had to struggle just discount those of us who have and still do. Statistics and economic indicators are all fine and dandy but they are only one part of the equation and far from the most important part of it.
We are living the data.
eCAHN is a lefty, no?
Or people who bought gasoline yesterday for 30 percent more than it cost just last month. People, (like myself), have to cut something out to pay more for gasoline, in this case on of my prescriptions. That’s not a “leftie scenario”. That’s the very real universe that I live in.
I’ve done enuf analysis of anecdotal info in the past to have a healthy disrespect for it. Mostly it was corp data, like RR carloadings.
I read FDL every day, so am completely aware of how peeps our side perceive it.
But persist in your own bubble. It is your privilege.
And one more thing, about overplay/overreach; the people I ride the bus with? They generally do not fly.
Now if they end up subject to intrusive TSA shit like this on the street, they are going to be more than pissed.
That’s from Forbes. Not some whacko prisonplanet.com, but Forbes.
I’m not getting this. BUT, I am not that smart. LOL
I would appreciate someone explaining WTF is going on.
I’ll submit that those of us without cleaning ladies may be less in a bubble than those with them. But that’s your privilege.
??
Is it just me or….??
Lefties are referring to lagging indicators.
I don’t want to get into an argument about this. I no longer do the thorough analysis I did when I was paid to be a forecaster.
So persist in whatever scenario you think is happening.
All don’t have equal probability, but as I no longer do with serious ref to the actual data, and none of you do it without such a ref (to my knowledge) feel free to have fun.
nope it isn’t. it is me, too.
eCAHN, if you tell me you’re not a leftie, well… all my gods have feet of clay.
Hear! Hear! My gosh, I don’t believe I’m reading this.
Geez, I get more response on Drum. I better hang up the ol’ jockstrap!
Lefties?? Ummm….unusual wording…
Must be whiskey.
The Rose has thorns…! 8-(
OK, I also don’t want to get into an argument about this, especially with you. You’ve got more economics knowledge in your little finger than I do in my whole fat body.
I was just trying to suggest that the rejection (right or wrong as it may be) isn’t because it doesn’t fit some lefty scenario, it’s because it doesn’t fit what we’re seeing and living every day. That could still mean we’re wrong, but I’m just taking issue with WHY we’re wrong. I really don’t think lefties have some scenario in which the economy must tank further. I know I don’t, I hope like hell it turns around tomorrow. It’s just from what my non-economic experienced eyes and ears are telling me, it smells like perhaps presumably objective data may be being manipulated in a way to that fits someone elses scenario.
Hey, I’m a leftie. You want to make something of it?
Sounds to me like the Rose doesn’t think we are as qualified or as capable as she to know what’s going on and that struggling to put food on the table or being unable to find full time employment is “anecdotal” and therefore unworthy of notice.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll wake up in the universe I inhabited yesterday….
Righties, life lefties, always had a “new” economic indicator that were dispostive (i.e., an indicator that in Alan Greenspan’s terms would tell ‘the truth’.) I’ve tested many of those on the rightie side and found them inadequate, i.e. nonpredictive. I have not done the same on the leftie side, i.e. had the opportunity to statistically test them. But bear a skepticism from my prior experience.
Disregard my comments if you think your indicators are more informative. No problem.
Hey, eCAHN, did I write something that pissed you off?
No.
I don’t know nothin’ bout no indicators…/:) I guess I hadn’t seen you refer to Lefties that way. It was a little different language…no worries.
Great. FWIW, here’s my take. The economy has to rebound sometime. It is likely to rebound first for those better off. So, there can be positive signs — but not for everyone. Those of us who are the worst off — as usual — will be the last to benefit. An unemployment rate of 8.9% is better than one of 9,0%. But just barely. It’s a start — but easily reversed. Everyone agree?
simply put, with the machine age, people have become less relevant…we are noticing how expendable/disposable we are, yes its frightening
I don’t know everything there is to know about current economic information.
But I have spent a LOT of time evaluating hypotheses and indicators. And have formed judgments on the basis of them.
Not saying I’m right or wrong. Heaven forbid I should hold out such a rightous judgemet.
Why do we still call this a democracy?
Also, “better” does not necessarily equal “good”. Especially when you’re starting from “really tremendously shitty”.
We’re not disrespecting your usual expert analysis, M’dear…! We’re merely bringing up the ‘unwashed masses’ perspective, from the literal street level…! Another words, expressing “the hand-to-mouth’ers” thorough and utter contempt with the whole damn system…! 8-(
That’s it then. The oil lobby has told Obama not to oppose Qaddafi so that’s probably next our next military adventure: supporting the oil companies’ dictator.
Because we’re talking to one another.
my cure for this
love one another, help one another, the goopers of course want to divide and conquer
I’d say that you’re fucking kidding me…
But alas, I know you are not.
FUCK OBAMA.
No. Things will stay the same or get worse for a long time. Food is going up. Gas is going up. The oligarchs are paying cash for little houses and will rent them out for a lot after awhile. People have stopped looking for work. There has always been a permanent underclass in this country. It will be a lot bigger. Somethings will get better but not much.
Biting my tongue really hard now. Think I’ll go. Laters.
Absolutely.
Damn good question, danette…! *g*
Agree 100%.
DNC,white house= oligarchy…..yes fukkkk them
Aloha, Peg…! *g*
x2.
me too,hopefully better days ahead….hugs
So in other words, the American public would raise taxes on everyone else while raising government spending only on the things they want the most. How very Nimby of them.
You got it right.
Eli, all this is your fault.
Food and fuel are going up and that will hurt those at the botttom of the economic ladder much more than the fat cats. Unemployment remains the single worst scourge we have though.
All things being equal, yes 8.9% unemployment is better than 9.0% unemployment.
But that’s where the rejection is coming from, because it SEEMS all things aren’t equal.
The drop from 9.0% to 8.9% occurred because, in the view of many, the size of the labor force dropped significantly. Now the size of the labor force does always change, old people retire, new people become ready to work, so there CAN be an all things being equal explanation. But if the drop in the size of the labor force was due to lots of folks leaving the labor force because they’ve given up looking for work then it becomes an indication that actual unemployment may not be any better whatsoever, in fact may even be worse.
At least that’s where I’m coming from when I question the conclusions that the economy is turning around. Add to it that the current administration in charge of putting out these numbers have a key self-interest in having the news be positive, then you may see why many of us reject/question the latest economic news.
bring back the communes!
My suggestion about the apparent infighting here!
Did you come over from Eschaton, by any chance…
The size of the labor force is indeed a concern of many. You are right that the 8.9% could turn out to be an abberation. We will have to wait another month and see what happens. Of course, as the economy gets better more people will enter the work force and so unemployment could go up. It is true that the “turnaround” is painfully slow.
I am certainly no economist. Therefore my interpretations and predictions are based on the assumption that at this time in history the sociopaths have more power than those who have social awareness and consciousness.
It is somewhat uplifting to know the polls still suggest the majority of ordinary people fall in the second category. But we have no power and I promise you not only will our opinions be ignored, they will be devalued and perverted..
Oh, I agree completely. The positive signs are subject to interpretation. Good for some, not good for most. And easily reversible.
Aren’t we all lefties? If not, I have to find another blog. Eli, you’re a leftie, right?
I heard someone on the radio today explain that the rate went down because many older, male Americans have retired because they couldn’t find work or, rather, work that paid decently.
Eschaton? Is that a porn station?
It’s called cooking the books brother…that’s what the asswads are paid to do…
NOT create jobs, just cook the books, and raise the temperature of all the frogs in the beaker…
Nice thought and one of my fav performers. thanks
That is a reasonable inference.
Of course we are…”leftie” appeared in a strange context for a minute or two.
Well, Obama hates my guts and disagrees with everything I believe in, so I guess so, yeah.
According to the source article, “On average the public made a net reduction of $146 billion”. People, the annual deficit is on the order of $1.5 trillion, so even our great collective minds can only come up with a deficit reduction of about 10%, nowhere near enough to balance the budget. So, even with the open checkbook that comes from taxing the rich, they barely make a dent.
Pathetic.
I am PROUD to be a leftie. I think Eli is definitely a leftie.
The only economic indicator I need is knowing that there are far too many really poor people in this “exceptional” country where a tiny percentage live like kings.
x2.
Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown begins with ECU of Woody: “Why Emmet Ray? Because … he was funny, you know, or, or, funny, if funny’s the wrong word, then, sort of pathetic in a way”.
Taxing the rich you say? Now that is an idea I can get behind. Why didn’t someone else think of that?
I am a left handed leftie. Way weird in all ways left.
Marymccurnin…
I am one of those older, male americans who CAN’T retire, would rather work no matter if the pay is decent or not, and I fervently give loud gratitude everyday for the things I do have, my precious partner, my dear children and grandchildren, a roof over my head, and a cup of tea, and last but not least,a computer to share my thoughts with fellow FDLer’s.
Im with ya Mary! Be well…
This why I come to FDL!
Define “rich”
Hmm, I was just copying your suggestion. What did you have in mind?

I only eat and perform important functions with my left hand — even though I was born right-handed. That’s the sacrifice I make. I have been told my reward is in heaven. But I’m not sure.
I was suggesting no such thing. I was simply pointing out the fallacy of the argument that raising taxes on the rich is the magic bullet here.
Personally I believe in the FairTax.
Thank God President Obama valiantly stood to preserve the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy. We almost fell into a socialist rathole!
And the tooth fairy?
So funny. The Fairtax proposals I have seen have actuial numbers behind them that show how to make the revenue side of the equation more fair and still manage to be progressive in nature. So I see them to be real and realistic.
What’s your problem with the FairTax?
S.C.R.O.L.L.
Hard times now, buckos. Deficits, fiscal austerity and belt-tightening to choke off all demand. Sacrifice on the backs of the poor and the nearly extinct middle class. Midnight in America.
If its marginal rates are those when Reagan was president, I have no trouble with it. Ronnie was tits!
Good night America, and especially Bradley.
Ronnie has tits!?
Sorry, that was not PC. Ronnie was a stud!
Read up on the FairTax. There are no “marginal rates’ in the RR sense. The same rate is paid by everyone and it’s embedded in the cost of everything you purchase. There are no more income taxes.
Yes, and they were AWESOME!
scro……
Sorry but America is not a capitalistic system. Its a fascistic system. They are completely different. But Americans have been brainwashed to believe fascism is capitalism. And they buy it hook line and sinker.
Ruh Roh…
You’re always BECOMING John Galt. You never get the job all the way done and take your talents away from us moochers and looters.
I wish you’d get it right, and in a hurry.
Right out of the blue? where did that come from?
Let him/her be. He has nothing to offer.
ROFLMAO

What a strange thread.
Becumming is so much better than having becum. It’s the journey.
The people in the WH need counseling; they’re clearly self-destructive.
I wouldn’t mind it, except that they’re destroying the rest of us by their actions.
Yes, I really should be in bed but I love this shit, especially when Mr Gault chimes in.
It gets worse and more unbelievable with each passing day.
All of Eli’s threads are “strange.” I’ve been thinking of reporting him to Jane.
Do you read Wallbanger in the mornings? Really odd dude.
Me too.
Jane knows.
no.
Wallbanger and Rafe work the day shift. lol
He’s a troll here and manages to hijack the thread frequently.
That explains why he’s thinking about a no-fly zone, even though everyone except the idjits in Congress is saying ‘no’.
And the idjits in Congress seem to see every problem as something that can be solved by the use of our military (what’s left over after Iraq and Afghanistan).
Just leave the trolls alone. They have nothing at add and some of them openly boast of their ability to hijack a thread.
Eli, I did enjoy your post, espcially the thing about solving the deficit by cutting everyone’s taxes. I wish I had thought of that too. It takes a kind of higher math. Obama figured it out though. thank goodness for that.
I’ve noticed.
I’d like my vote back. Now.
*heh* I’m sure Jane could use the good laugh…! *g*
Eleventy-dimensional budgeting.
they do tend to hijack the thread b/c you just can’t resist saying something to the assholes. I kept pretty quiet this time around.
What do you mean where did that come from? There is a mention in the first comment that america is a capitalistic system. Which it is not. Its a fascistic system.
When he “graduates” from this job he can start teaching it.
Nah, its a bligorrtacracy.
swopa has ln upstairs
The heck is that?
OK – I’m confused – again. :-)
Car loads are down in Canada, Mexico, and Western US, and up in the eastern US – and thereby up overall over last year – http://www.aar.org/NewsAndEvents/Freight-Rail-Traffic/2011/02/17-railtraffic.aspx
Given that the numbers show an inventory buildup, I am not clear if the sell through rate is up.
All in all – not much of an improvement – but there is an improvement – and that seems to me to be the scenario most on FDL are selling – is that what you are seeing on FDL? Indeed could you expand your comment?
I have been on a bit of a rant over the inflation adjustment as done in the EU, as done in the US, and as Done in Japan – and indeed in the changes to that calculation that Greenspan sold the US but were mostly rejected by the EU – and the reverse Greenspan that Japan uses to hide its growth so no one gets on its back about stealing manufacturing – and protecting home based manufacturing – indeed doing so before China became job one. Indeed with China adding a “we have a right to steal your manufacturing/technology secrets if you want to use our labor” rule – the problem that Paul Samuelson showed destroyed US jobs – permanently – because we give up our “competitive advantage” to get that labor.
Do you disagree with any of that?
I respect the fact that your forecasting skill is not common – on FDL – or anywhere else – I know I do not have it. But what do you see in the leading indicators – http://www.briefing.com/Investor/Public/Calendars/EconomicReleases/leader.htm – that I am missing as I only see a slow modest increase in activity forecast based on the analysis of the Conference Board (I make no analysis or conclusion or forecast – I am just interested in what you see in the tea leaves).
There’s a saying to the effect that if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. That, or congress is feeling guilty about all our money they’re spending on their rich friends in the MIC. However, since feeling guilt would require a conscience, I’ll stay with my first option.
That said, I think Eli’s presentation of the way ordinary folk would address our money problems sounds like a wonderful plan (I are not an economist, but I’ll bet you could find one or two good ones that would go for it or something like). It also gives me hope, that “the American people in general” feel this way. I was beginning to despair.
And, yes, I know the plural of “anecdote” is not “data,” but as a “99er,” I’m probably no longer counted as “unemployed.” I’m not only unemployed, I’m long-term unemployed, as well as being too old and too well-educated to hire. Unfortunately, I’m also too young to retire. I suspect there are huge numbers of people like me.
Flat and consumption taxes always are regressive as they tax the poor and middle class, the people who must spend a high percentage of their incomes than the wealthy.
The wealthy do not spend as high a percentage of income in ordinary “consumption.” and either hoard or place their money in all kinds of tax shelter investments.
Oh please – the numbers put out by the fair tax crowd are just mis-information – like calling a – say 25% – sales tax on an 80 dollar purchase – for 100 dollars out of pocket – a @0% sales tax.
Then when you ask about the transfer of the top 10% burden for paying the cost of government to the under 90%, all you here about are the large yachts that will pick up a heft tax – forgetting we tried a rich folks sales tax in the 90′s and they just moved their purchasing to another country.
If you want to screw the middle class there is nothing better to use than a “fair tax”.
However a targeted VAT (GST in Canada) makes sense because of its job protection ability in the trade wars.
But please wake me when some GOPer states the correct percentage sales tax needed to recover the same tax collections as the tax method it is replacing – and indeed when that GOPer stops his pretend that the massive collection hole can be closed via chasing down “waste/fraud/ etc.
The magic bullet is return to the Clinton rates that produced 22 million jobs so we can collect $4 trillion more – an even better bullet is return to the pre-Reagan tax code and pick up another couple of trillion – then end military toys for boys and adventures oversees for another 2 trillion.
I grant you Obama’s tax rate return for over $250000 types is only a 700 billion over 10 year solution – but it is less a con-job then taking insurance programs that have sufficient premium (payroll tax) dedicated to them for the next 35 years – and as in Social Security can even after 35 years still pay 80% of what is promised – and which have no effect on the budget – and then claim the insurance benefit must be cut because the premium (payroll tax) must be instead used to finance more tax reductions for the rich.
Correction:
They call the 25% tax a 20% tax – so old fat folks like me can’t type – sorry.
So long as conservative groups can advocate fascist-aimed constitutional conventions and laws, such as the profiling laws they wish to enact, compassionate persons caring about fairness, equality ,
and innovation can propose constitutional amendments requiring that all administrative agencies, federal and state, be led by boards consisting of a public (consumer) based majority.
Particularly in pharma, people’s health is impacted by policies and decisions blatantly aimed at
protecting large pharma’s turf. Products joffering vastly greater safety with comparable effectiveness,
developed by PhD and M.D. – led companies, whose leaderships invested millions of $US believing
they were on course to get a fair shake, are currently in the balance, so laws inflicting penalties for
actions taken in conflict of interest should be enacted presently.
Diabetes is one area, particularly, where the FDA’s hurdles keep rising as the new formulations threatening entrenched pharma’s products pile up. Americans can expect little innovation to actually hit the

dramatic improvements in cost and safety relative to effectiveness.

Why are the people suprized when they elect a corupt president whos best friend bombed the pentagon, killed a police officer, admits snorting coccaine, spens $4 million in legal fee to avoid producing a birth certificate, and sat in a church for 20 years listening to a man who hates the US and hates white people. Omama is a corrupt, incompetent, weak, pathetic man who could not run a hot dog cart let alone a country.
yea, lets tax the living &4c^#(&% out of the evil Rich bastereds, the ones who pay 95% of the tax burden so the rest of us slugs can sit on our fat asses and pay no tax. all we have to do is head to the polls every 4 years and vote for more entitlements.
What a system.
Until we, do more than post a comment, or just whine about what’s wrong, the efforts of a few (regular folks)on the front lines will be in vain. Most of comments, are right on point. However, people in power don’t give a shit about what you think, but it does make a difference to them, when that is matched with the doing! I’m respectfully saying is, we’ve got plenty of room on the front lines for you, to join us, the cause matters not, just come on out, just by the opinions posted, many of you add information to my motivation to stay on the front line.
The budget and policies don’t represent what we, the little people want, need, and demand, because we the little people have little money to help elect the servants of…the Uberwealthy.
David Dayen quoted part of an article by Chris Hayes which has a quote from Martin Gilens, an associate professor of politcs at Princeton. Gilens’ 2005 study on the effect of money on political responsiveness shows graphically the effect money has on how DC politicians develop and legislate policy.
Follow the money.
This strikes me as a very important study. It explains in a nutshell why we get jack shit from our politicians. They do not work for us; they work for their wealthy patrons and donors.
This link goes to a Quick Hit post at Corrente, with two comments about other articles about Gilens’ work.
The real kicker, right to the solar plexus and to our standard of living, is that not only do Republicans ignore the lowest 10% of our society, but they also respond barely more to the middle group. But, they pay very close attention to and respond well to those in the highest 10%.
Democrats? React the same damn way!
Check the links for the charts (I can’t figure out how to import them to here.)
