MADISON, WI (FDL) – In what has been billed the largest rally in the history of Madison, over 100,000 people packed the Capitol Square for a “Rally for Workers’ Rights” to protest the budget repair bill and the proposed stripping of collective bargaining rights from public employees. Madison Police told AFL-CIO spokesman Eddie Vale that they estimated the crowd at 100,000 30 minutes before the 3pm rally. As Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary, who graced the stage, said, it’s 40% of the March on Washington, which he attended.

When I first picked up the book “Rumpus Women,” I had to admit I had a moment of wondering why. In this modern era of blogging, personal essays by women are easy to come by, and in fact, we are absolutely swimming in them. Why go to the effort of cracking a book?

MADISON, WI (FDL) – On a cold, snowy day in Madison, men and women from across the state have descended on the state Capitol. Inside is still packed, but outside, the stage on State Street has already drawn tens of thousands. A variety of music acts – including a union-friendly version of Eminem – have played for the audiences. Local news puts the number at at least 35,000 already – and the main march has been called for 3:00, two hours from now.
