Most of us can’t be in Wisconsin for the protests to defend workers’ rights. I’d like to be! But failing that, my first online stop for Madison news is First Draft, home of my buds Scout & Athenae (our own Athenae), who with their crew are producing great stuff.
And then there is this class of thing, snapperhead Clownhall-standard wankery — which is worth an exegesis, because it’s kind of oddly, or at least idiotically, instructive. The video is over there. —->
What fascinates is that the Clownhall homunculus is linking the video as a means of rubbishing the protesters as Vicious Thugs, along the lines of the Gateway Dingleberry screeching that “NINE VIOLENT PROTESTORS!!!11!” were arrested!!!! (the linked story, of course, contains no mention at all of violence, which hardly matters to any of Jim Hoft’s readers, because they’re nasty semi-literate pud-whacking candyass shits to begin with). But the video shows no such thing!
Indeed, the piquantly awful thing about the clip is how wildly unconnected is its substance with the narrative the Foxites cram it into. If you’ve been missing the brilliantly malignant Onion News Network shows on IFC, well, click above! The segment begins with a smug Fox Business News apparatchik, Mark Shepard, I think his name is, sneering at the Wisconsin Democratic state senators, and then shifts to its putz on the scene — who repeatedly has to tell his Home Anchor that “actually, most of the people have been fairly reasoned, calm, and willing to talk,” and are not tossing Molotov cocktails or similar.
The correspondent is determined to stress that pretty much all the protesters are calm and articulate — except for this One Guy, who says over and over, “Fox Lies!” And the correspondent wants the story to be, “One guy is being rude.”
But then you look at the anchor, and he keeps egging on the correspondent to say “these protesters are crazy and dangerous!” Indeed, the apparatchik: “Does it seem like people are getting more and more aggressive?” And then the video ends with a totally unrelated video of Ed Schultz saying that Republicans lie and want you dead, where they add an effect of the flames of Hell.
Which is pretty hilarious, because it admirably proves the One Guy’s point. Fox, indeed, lies.
One of the lessons here is that if you are ever on camera with Fox, stay on message. The correspondent sneers at the One Guy for only knowing two words, but that kind of worked. The segment was going to be spun against the protesters anyhow. But the “Fox lies” got out there regardless. And was proved accurate!
At any rate there is not much mystery as to what is actually going on in Wisconsin. A bit of media savvy won’t hurt for the fights coming up.

saTHERSday nite live!
From Mother Jones’ Twitter account:
What was that about violence, FOX?
Evening.
Everyone at Faux knows the WI police are incompetent and wouldn’t recognize a crime if they saw it. /s
No taxes for corps say the tea partiers…if they want personhood they can pay personal tax rates says I.
PW: it was Jim “Dumb Liar” Hoft who had that, not Fox, to be precise. The link was to a local news story that mentioned nine arrests.
But overall there is no doubt that the protests have been remarkably peaceful.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I did that video justice — it’s such blatant propaganda. The anchor just has no interest at all in what the correspondent is actually saying. And then the closing Flames of Hell graphic? It’s The Onion, news without mercy…
SaTHERSday Night Fever!
Let’s see now. Peaceful, unarmed liberal protesters are dangerous, vicious thugs. Armed, violent conservative protesters shouting violent slogans and carrying eliminationist signs are decent, god fearing patriotic Americans. I think Fox News is broadcast from Bizarro World.
Made my night.
Thers!
But isn’t “Fox Lies” the rhetorical equivalent of “the Mississippi River is brown and wet?”
Tie-in — the Faux Family have always been about union-busting, so their attitude on Madison is no change of stripes.
There is no reason to be anything but peaceful at such rallies, unless the goons get sent in to incite it. NYC pigs who did all the arrests during R convention had to let everyone go. NYC also arrest group bicylists for no reason, push them over, steal their cameras & stomp on them.
Expect a class-action Bizarro defamation suit. No, wait…you’d have to say something nice about Faux for that to happen!
Any numbers on the Tea Bagger anti protest crowd not Fox Numbers please I need a laugh:)
saTHERSday night!
Fox Spews is what i call it … they spews lies constantly, toxic vomit. And glenn blecchhh is projectile vomiting.
I suppose that was a bit unfair to Bizarro World.
I’ve seen plenty of rudeness toward media clowns in the past but it’s rare when I see one react in such a defensive way. Hey! Don’t wanna be called a liar? Here’s an idea: Stop fucking lying.
“But then you look at the anchor, and he keeps egging on the correspondent to say “these protesters are crazy and dangerous!”
This only works if its a crowd of Dark People Fox News can’t use the racist playbook or the crazy lefty or young people argument on middle class white Wisconsin Union crowds.
Well, yes, but in Bizarro World it’s considered gentlemanly to be unfair.
Fox won a court case for the freedom to lie in the news does Fox really want to go there with this issue? I hope so the snark will be easy:)
Right. But also, if Fox Business Channel shines its lights on you, there is no reason to say anything else but “Fox lies.”
Really? You have a link for that?
Yep. And say it with a big sunny smile.
Fox lies in pigshit.
Just like at Faux Spews!
Free Hat! Free Hat!….
More media savvy, from Forbes, yet.
Madison police estimate is 60,000, and another 2000 pro-Walker.
(Yes, it was at least 30 to 1 against!)
Fox Business Channel
Isn’t that the network for people to spectacularly bankrupt in the shortest possible time while being investigated by every imaginable state and federal agency?
Ma and Pa Kettle will have to go home soon. They can’t miss the 10pm news on Fox.
I wish someone with keys to my blog would post that shit there…
Ah, but there is something we can do nonetheless: Ian’s Pizza on State Street in Madison (tel.: (608)257-9248) is taking credit card orders to deliver free pizza to the protestors. When I called a while ago, the only kind they were doing was Mac ‘n’ Cheese pizza. I’m more of a mushroom and sausage guy myself, but whatever.
Presumably other local restaurants will do this as well, but Ian’s is the one getting all the buzz on Twitter: See for example Mother Jones editor Clara Jeffery’s retweet “World Feeds Protest Pizza.”
Milwaukee Journal says “several thousand” pro Walkers were “heavily out numbered”
Yeah, but why should “getting investigated by the Feds for massive financial fraud” be anything but a laugh line for anyone with an in on Wall Street?
Is it too late to do it tonight, or should I save the phone number for tomorrow?
I just called a while ago, and they were still open, so you might try. The guy said that any pizzas not delivered tonight will be delivered tomorrow. I did this during the Howard Dean campaign seven years ago; it’s nice to be back in the charitable pizza business.
These days, it’s practically a resume item.
Hey, all. I’ve got to make a sign tomorrow for a rally in Olympia,Wa on Presidents Day. Same union-busting, paving the way for privatizing that’s the same assault going on in the midwest.
I like 2 sided, hand made, artsy-fartsy signs. I have enough gold spray paint for 2 sides background color. Also, a donation of red/maroon spray paint if the gold is overkill for both sides.
My brain can’t come up with the “words with punch”. The gold side has to be about equal taxes, or, taxing corporations.
The flip side should be a nice red background with a social statement? I thought Fuck The Congress was good, but, cooler heads advised otherwise.
Any slogan gatherers out there? I’m not buying new colors for this rally. :]
Good on them! What a great idea!
Sadly true these days. There has been a total capture of the government by the financial sector and the rentiers.
Just called & ordered 2. Tried to make sure they would send them over when real people needed real food. Guy was friendly.
Ya know, the next sign I make is going to have the head of the same quarter on both sides. It’s going to say “Republicans” on one side and “Democrats” on the other.
Did you tell them NFTB? (Not for the “baggers)
A-yep.
No doubt.
I said protesters. I hope that was sufficient.
Cool! They will be appreciated by those folks!
Yeah. Us perfessers, we don’t, you know, actually have quite the power ascribed to us by wingnuts… well actually we do! We rule Goldman Sachs bwa ha ha.
Dang, Thers… I learned a new word today: homunculus…! Midget, dwarf, etc…! ;-)
I think that’s a great idea for people who can’t be there to support people who are. I also asked about drinks but he said that they were only sending pizzas.
You’ve only got 30 to 1 odds…
If you had ordered “live kittens” they would have known it was for the teabaggers.
Well, Koch & the usual suspects have gone a long way in infiltrating the academy too.
Thanks for the grins, Thers.
Sometimes in my wildest fantasies I try to imagine what it would be like to have 1% of the power conservatives think we have.
Got right thru which indicated not many are calling at this hour. He asked where I was calling from and when I said NYS, he was astonished.
They know perfectly well you have no power. They’re just using you as a propaganda foil.
Right? LMAO! It would be funny if the delivery guy/lady took out one slice and gave it to the ‘baggers and gave the rest to the pro union folks!
Not to the extent of “teaching students,” of course. Heaven forfend they “do any work.”
You’re such a sweetie, M’dear…! *g*
The politicians and some of the pundits know, but the masses really have been brainwashed into believing in our terrifyingly awesome power.
Bless you, cCAHN. How is Cahnstance tonight?
I am sure they could have used a keg of beer.
I don’t think that they even know what it is, other than something distasteful and low class.

“Akre was wrongfully fired by Fox Television when she refused to broadcast (in the jury’s words) “a false, distorted or slanted story” about the widespread use of BGH in dairy cows. They further maintained that she deserved protection under Florida’s whistle blower law. Akre was awarded a $425,000 settlement. Inexplicably, however, the court decided that Steve Wilson, her partner in the case, was ruled not wronged by the same actions taken by FOX.
FOX appealed the case, and on February 14, 2003 the Florida Second District Court of Appeals unanimously overturned the settlement awarded to Akre. The Court held that Akre’s threat to report the station’s actions to the FCC did not deserve protection under Florida’s whistle blower statute, because Florida’s whistle blower law states that an employer must violate an adopted “law, rule, or regulation.” In a stunningly narrow interpretation of FCC rules, the Florida Appeals court claimed that the FCC policy against falsification of the news does not rise to the level of a “law, rule, or regulation,” it was simply a “policy.” Therefore, it is up to the station whether or not it wants to report honestly.”

Sorry for the wait I was arguing with a highschool dropout last thread.
OK, must be wafted into the gentle arms of sleep. Bon sir, mes amis.
Good man — well done, eCAHN.
Niters, good sir.
g’nite thers
Lickin’ her paw on a couch by me.
The weather was miserable today. Temps cold, but winds ferocious. She never showed any interest in going out. I cranked up the house heat (as it is drafty), lit the fireplace, and just hunkered down until it ends. It actually blew open a window in the kitchen that turns out not to have had the lock turned. That’s some heavy duty wind. (Not sure why the storm is not down on that window except that it is in an awkward spot & I prolly overlooked it.) Also boarding/tourist sign blown off the back of the house, a remnant of the 40s & 50s that we found shortly after we bought it. No other wind damage that I can see from the house & no electricity loss, but I can HEAR the wind. Cruel sound.
Well, I had diet sodas in mind….
Good ‘gal’ for future reference.
30 to 1 odds Bwahahaha! and Chuck Todd thinks the Tea Baggers are a political force??? I now think election fraud is a story the entire Lake missed:)
Thanks. :)
Bonsoir, thers.
Think warm thoughts for the protestors…weather’s predicted to take a nasty turn for the upper heartland.
Wish I could send them some of this weather. We’re enjoying perfect camping weather.
Getting you this kind of information is important:)
I can’t draw the head of a quarter. I’m a huge fan of Art in public places.
One of my favorite signs that I made for my very old “Socialist,Recognized-as-a- True Artist, Woman …and mother. We used the traditional colors of the Church; pale blue, yellow, gold with a mirror embedded in the middle. Icon style. Around the mirror it said “Step into the Light”
The lower portion of the sign had bloody handprints around the words “Jail Bush”.
So, we’re not shy. There is a moment to imprint the human mind with color and human made symbols. I heart Art Signs.
Sweet dreams, Thers. Thank you.
Sure you can! Start with a big circle and then make a tracing of a real quarter with pencil on a piece of paper so you have a clear black and white reference. Now turn it upside down so the top of the head is pointing downward. Now put it on the poster inside the big circle. Add a date and an e pluribus unum and viola! You have a poster quarter!
In full discloture…I would borrow that sign to blind TeaBaggers on the opposite corner when Mom wasn’t around.
And I’m AARP age !!
:]
Time for me to toddle off. Take care all and Viva la Cheddar Revolucion!
Night DrD
g’nite dr dick
Or an inappropriate silhouette of Jeff Goldblum. A WTF thing………:]
Now that would be hilarious! :-D
Bonne nuit, DrDick!
Christine! Good to see you. :)
Sounds like Hosni Mubarak Walker’s ordering out the riot police to attack protesters in the middle of the night:
Margaret, dear!
How are you tonight?
Yikes! Yep, looks like it’s going to be snowing it’s ass off in Wisconsin for the next couple of days.
Also sounds like my 12. Sending in the goons to create problems where none previously existed.
Middle of the night. Don’t want people to see what they’re doing. Cowards.
Better! (Better catch me ’cause I’m about to pass out!)
Yep. I think the Kochs were convinced they could send their tea party patsies in and there would be violence breaking out.
Nasty brutes, those Kochs.
Wow, Wisconsin does not need more snow right now…
To put it mildly. They have forgotten that their foot soldiers are conservatives and conservatives are, by nature, cowards. I would have been astonished if any of them had started anything. Look for one or more of them to gin up an “incident” in the coming days though. As soon as O’Keefe’s crew gets there.
I’m surprised the Kochs didn’t hire some Xe goons as ‘agent provocateurs’…!
I’m just watching Wisc to see what we’re really up against. Think it’s pretty formidable, cards stacked against us, blah blah blah. But Wisc is the petri dish where we can watch it happen in real time.
I bet they will soon…
Me too.
It’s so easy to provoke in a large crowd; panic response.
That’s one of the obs I was most astonished at in the ME demonstrations. How, despite provocations, demonstrators remained peaceful. Verrrry impressive.
Truly spoken. I wish I could do something to help but all I can really do is offer moral support unless and until a protest comes within my range.
Moral support & pizzas!
That’s either going to happen or they’ll gin something up. Put in somebody to randomly fall to the pavement and scream bloody murder about those awful, violent liberals.
You did a swell thing!
Can’t do pizzas. That might be the difference between paying my bills or not next month. :/
Dunno. Got a small amount of optimism today when I heard author on book-tv talk about 1963 civil rights march. When the U.S. was worthy of some of what it often attributes to itself.
I understand that. But some of us can do pizzas. For us, it’s the least we can do. Consider my second pizza in your name.
That’s sweet! Thanks. One of these days I’ll be solvent again but I fear it’s still gonna get worse before it gets better.
I’m going to call it a night. Oya Koinu! :)
g’nite margaret
In Bahrain, in particular, they continued marching towards the machine gun fire…! Astounding indeed…!
Sweet dreams, Peg…!
There is a solidarity with Wisconsin event at our state capitol on Tuesday. I am sure I will be there.
Also in Libya from what we can gather.
But Bahrain is my focus bc it is the place where U.S. PTB have the most stake, both in terms of 5th fleet & U.S. banks.
Wisc is petri dish for U.S. Bahrain is petri dish for U.S. foreign policy.
Wonderful!
One of my fave signs that I saw from WI said, “Mubarak for Governor.” I thought that was a good one, but I am going to try to come up with something good for Tuesday.
That is a great sign. Let us know what u come up with.
Oops, sorry.
