Good for the President.
President Obama thrust himself and his political operation this week into Wisconsin’s broiling budget battle, mobilizing opposition Thursday to a Republican bill that would curb public-worker benefits while planning similar action in other state capitals.
Obama accused Scott Walker, the state’s new Republican governor, of unleashing an “assault” on unions in pushing emergency legislation that would nullify collective-bargaining agreements that affect most public employees, including teachers.

Lady Macbeth = Hillary Clinton.
And that serves what purpose and has what to do with BT’s topic?
Ya know, it might be considered a bit on the courteous side to be on topic for once
Teachers in Ohio have figured out many will lose their homes due to the same legislation in Ohio.
The bill in Ohio will allow for age discrimination against teachers.
Ding ding!
Good morning, everyone!
I have heard there’s something afoot in Indiana too, but a quick Google just brings up all of the Wisconsin news.
Indiana is too busy crafting an amendment to ban same-sex marriage at the moment, I guess.
Walk like an Egyptian!
LOL. You’re more articulate than me. I just said “What the fuck… ?”
I’m still not sure how this will play out. If you don’t think FOX and the GOP are joined at the hip comnsider … FOX lately has been running pieces about the “greedy public employee unions.” Before this came down in Wis. Just layin’ the groundwwork. FOX is a GOP advanceman
Bangles were cool. Every week I send my daughter “Manic Monday.” On Monday I do that.
Off to work pups. Keep doin’ what you’re doin’ and enjoy it. Another week in the books.
Investigate and fix black box voting so the Koch brothers can’t pull these stunts on the cheap.
The President is staking out a position on favorable ground. It goes right to the heart of his center-right constituency, who are strong supporters of public education and are not as likely to be brain-washed as the lumpenproletariat who get all their information from Fox. It also mobilizes his student base. The other thing is that the really big money has no dog in this race. The actions of the Wisconsin governor are pure ideology. The bankster’s use that ideology only when their monopoly is endangered. Otherwise, they’d just as soon see a reasonably well-functioning government.
Good Morning, BT and all
I’m going OT (sorry), but it is kinda related…I started a job yesterday. I just don’t get a paycheck to take to the bank. I’m volunteering at MEND 20 hours a week. Here’s a video.
It’s one way to fight back against the evil that has spread through our country. Oh, and keeps me off the streets or toobz and out of trouble.
So far the “tea party crowd has shown an amazing lack of governing skills.
John Kasich is already a disaster in Ohio, Rick Scott has Democrats AND Republicans fuming and taking about a recall (Google “Recall Rick Scott”), and the Republican-led Congress has been an utter embarrassment in every sense of the word, failing to pass easy bills and dawdling on social issues when Americans are demanding action on jobs.
Now here’s Scott Walker convincing himself that he’s Wisconsin’s very own “little Mubarak” and can send his secret police to round up political opponents. Tea Party…FAIL.

“Good for the President,” my left cheek. Here’s a more accurate take on Obama’s position:
“President Obama gave an interview to a Milwaukee television station Wednesday, trying to posture as a supporter of Wisconsin public workers, as mass working-class protests develop against cuts demanded by Wisconsin’s Republican Governor Scott Walker.
Obama spoke with a WTMJ television reporter for ten minutes, an interview set up hastily as the scale of the confrontation in Wisconsin began to become apparent.
The first question was about his reaction to Walker’s actions in pushing through legislation to eliminate collective bargaining rights for most public employees.
“Everybody’s got to make some adjustments to new fiscal realities,” he began, endorsing the basic falsification employed by Democratic and Republican politicians alike to justify cuts in public employee wages and benefits.”

With Obama, it always has to do with which way the wind is blowing.
It’s astonishing to me that 300 teabaggers shouting racist slurs and their ridiculous and uniformed interpretations of the Constitution can get 100 times the media attention than 100 times that amount of pro union demonstrators can. “Liberal media” my patootie.
Good morning.
Goo for you. Kudos on all volunteerism. :)
Some of these Republicans are acting like Dictators! It is unfortunate that Wisconsin did have a Surplus but their Governor gave it away to business cronies. The problem in the U.S., is an unequal distribution of wealth. Rich people and rich corporations pay little to no taxes while the middle class and working poor bear the burdens of taxes in the U.S. In regards to Medicare, instead of letting Medicare negotiate for the lowest drug prices, which would save billions, they are forced to pay top dollar to the drug cartels (super pharmaceuticals). That is because GOP are more concerned with business than Main Street. So I support the people in Wisconsin, not the Union Leaders, but the people’s rights to be able to bargain. The middle class and poor should not have to carry the burden of tax relief while Wall Street, Banks, Corporations, and Rich people pay very little, and in some cases no taxes at all, due to tax breaks, tax shelters and tax loopholes. This is wrong. And, if GOP are so Concerned about the deficit, then they would have never approved the Bush Tax Cuts, that benefit the wealthy and take from the rest of us — They, the GOP, have RAPED this country! Their argumet is that union employees should live like the rest of the employees who do not have the same benefits. Well then the rich people too should live by those same standards and not be given special privlieges and persk that take from the country and rob the rest of us.
What you won’t see about the new budget:
http://tinyurl.com/4ft2a3p
That Knuts. Of course there is money involved, big money.
Who do you believe is threatened with paying taxes to funds government pension systems, and repay the loans (to our own Government) made from Social Security?
It is all about money. Big money.
Good for you…haven’t checked the link…but hope you enjoy it….and, stay outta trouble. Hard, I know.
Scott Walker = meat puppet? Maybe so but I don’t give him a pass, even as a dupe.
Ed Schultz has been on this story from the beginning. He has called out the corporate media for their lack of coverage and the true implication of what the totalitarian governor’s dictate actually means. Where’s perky Katie Couric and oh so handsome Brian Williams?
Thanks, Peggy. I worked in Food Distribution yesterday, you can see the warehouse and prep areas in the video. I have to admit to being a bit sore this morning. As I adjust to the physical exertion, maybe I can pull longer hours. But, this morning they are going to train me on some admin stuff that needs done too. It sure feels good to get up in the morning and have something worth while to do.
Let me see which way my people are going so I can get in front and lead them . . . .
someone said that once or twice. I think it may apply here.
when I was 10 in ’70, my high school drop out draftee step father would say – money talks and shit walks – shit in 1 hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first.
0-$ell-0ut has consistently sided with the wall street scum for the benefit of the scum and the steny hoyer slime – at least with fascist lackeys like bush, cheney and raygun I EXPECTED to be lied to so their thieving buddies could steal.
0-bummer is trying to pull his hope-change schtick in time to get re-elected.
Who, me? Ha ha. And, thanks. We distributed such a very large amount of food yesterday. It’s quite amazing what they do there.
Don’t know about them but Al Jazeera was covering the story last night and doing it well.
Got this Roku box that streams Netflix and, believe it or not, Al Jazeera on my teevee. Now I can find some news worth watching.
OT: Looks like ST Davids South Aus. Medical Center may be hiring….don’t know more.
Yep, getting back into a work mode always makes me sore. I’m trying to stay in shape by working out but there’s no denying that when I finally find a job, I’ll be using muscles that gave up long ago!
Thanks Rev. I’ll hit their site after my shower. Used to print business cards and some three part forms for them.
So Obama now is jumping in to back the unions after picking non-union Charlotte to host the 2012 convention. Who does he think he is fooling?
Got a call from the DNC looking for money the other night. I told them it would be a cold day in hell before I gave them another cent. The guy got the message.
ALL my political money is now going to NAAF to help pay for abortions for poor women. Sent in “honor” of Joe Pitts so he gets a thank you note from them. I’d love to see this become a movement exercise.
The ‘hate’ boiling up in this country will be its undoing. The State of Wisconson money issues could be a tipping point. What was a ‘hate ‘ for banks and corporate Ceo’s is now a ‘hate’ for any worker that has a better deal than someone else. The internet is ‘foaming at the mouth’ waiting for the balance to break.Obama has kept us from falling over the edge but the GOP is determined to ‘let their dogs out’ and finish the Bush job on us.
Good Morning to All and Congrats Demi. I know you will serve and add much to that!
And, I get to wear jeans and tennies! (Plus, I’ve never had a job where my boss is telling me what a blessing I am.)
For once I can’t entirely agree with Krugman:
(emphasis mine)
I don’t agree with that at all Mr. Krugman. Any amount of fraudulence is still fraud. You don’t become “kinda” pregnant and Obama’s deficit strutting will have the same deleterious effects on the economy as the Republicans’. In normal times it may be a matter of degree but these aren’t normal times and anything at all can tip us right back into recession. In fact, only the bankers and traders have come out of recession to begin with. Until Obama and the Congress accect that little reality, it will never get better.
Not enough money in Wisconsin. The banks have nothing against public pensions as long as they can take a toll on them (i.e. manage the funds for exorbitant fees). They don’t pay taxes anyway, so the tax implications have no effect on them. The pensions effectively come out of workers’ gross pay (even the employer contribution). That’s why cutting pensions is tantamount to stealing.
So Obama now is jumping in to back the unions after picking non-union Charlotte to host the 2012 convention.
Good catch.
Got a call from the DNC looking for money the other night. I told them it would be a cold day in hell before I gave them another cent.
Good idea.
Where have these people been for the last 30 years while the foundation for there good life was under attack.I don’t see or hear anything about changeing the Min. wage to a liveable wage, about getting fair trade not NAFTA and trade agreements that killed the good paying jobs where we produced goods that we used every day.Maybe if the Public Workers Unions loss there security.Because thay stood by while The People who built products we use everyday was being stolen from the US Citizen.Thay supported the illegials takeing the good union jobs driveing wages down of Labors,Carpenters,Painters, you know the bottom 50%.Where were the Public works people when the sellout of Health Care to the insurance industery happen.Where were these people where these Public work people when Newt and Bill created NAFTA.Thay did not know that the loss of good paying jobs that produce the goods we use everyday was important to public workers.
That’s always the best wardrobe choice to have on a job IMO.
My last boss said that often to me. But I couldn’t wear jeans! :(
Thanks, PP. A paycheck with dollar signs would be nice, but since that prospect seems to be bleak, at least I can help others. You wouldn’t think that boxes of bread would be so heavy!
I just got a Roku from my kiddos for my birthday in January. I was pleased to see it has Al Jazeera. Problem is that I have to sit in front of the teevee, when I can get the same live stream on my laptop, and carry it around the house with me. It also has Rachel Maddow and (did have) KO, but it’s the same stream I can get on my laptop.
I think I’m gonna like it for Netflix movies, tho.
The Coalition of Nurses in WI is awesome! It would really be something if they got to ask if you are a republican before administering aid! Hell, if the repugs can require Pharmacists to deny service, why can’t a Nurse?
I don’t think those people will contact me again after they sent me an email wanting me to tell them “how they were doing”. I told them exactly how I thought they were doing.
leftown,
That sounds more like the Obama we’ve come to know. Looks like another head fake. After all, he recently froze federal wages as a political stunt. If he really cares about opposing the aggressive, ideologically driven political Right in support of those lucky enough to still have a job, it would be encouraging to see him really engaged.
Right now he is here in the Bay Area, meeting with tech titans and other wealthy bigwigs. It’s a case of power meet money, money meet power. Although it’s billed differently, I’m sure he’s actually lining up support for his reelection. (California has been a cash cow for the Democratic Party with support from Hollywood and the entertainment industry as well as Silicon Valley.) I don’t see his schedule including labor leaders, workers, or anyone from the liberal/progressive base who once supported him.
Keeping us posted on Lindsay Lohan, et al…. You know, the IMPORTANT news. /snark
I have one beef with your comment. Clinton did not have a part in constructing NAFTA. Daddy Bush and his crew did that, they just pushed a Dem president to implant it. That is the same tactic they are using with Obama and the Korea FTA. That was originally started with Bush Jr. and his team on the behest of the NeoCons.
Yep. Again good on you. I’d totally volunteer but it would be a distraction from looking for work and as I’m not married, I’m the only one in my household who can work. While volunteering is important for the community and good for the soul, it won’t pay my rent.
Indeed! Why not talk with the people that really count in the areas they know the most about?
It doesn’t have to be full time at all and often is a good way in/connections.
Same here. Besides, I can’t spend money for the extra gasoline. I have to be very frugal with my trips.
True but I know me. The last time I volunteered was for Navy Relief and I nearly got fired from my real job because I was missing time there trying to do to much for the NR.
PeasantParty,
Obama is talking to the people who really count–to him; that’s important. Feh! He’s a preening jerk who wants another four years as president. I try to envision the Democratic National Convention next year. Although there will be staged hooplah and such, the enthusiasm gap with 2008 should be huge! Like throwing a party, and only the dorks show up.
Some of the volunteers are there doing community service instead of paying for, say, traffic fines. But, there are some there who are working through unemployment, 99ers who get food stamps and EBT cards. Mostly single mothers with kids. Wouldn’t pay your rent though. I’m probably one of the few who are there just because I’m a bored housewife.
Good for Ed that he and John Nichols are standing up and I fully support the Unions for fighting back against a jack ass gov. I hate the bust Ed’s hope that the President and the national Dems are going to help support the middle class..Obama’s mumbled response was less then supportive; Dick Durban’s rah rah very short I love the Badgers phrase was not much and Nancy’s tweet is just a tweet! Actions speak much louder!
Oh, you got me! When I’ve applied for jobs at charities, they are always looking for someone with direct experience. I’m hoping to put in a year as a volunteer and then hopefully find a way to get a paying job. We’ll see. In the mean time….
Gonna probably hafta apply for food stamps and rent assistance in the near future so I might be doing a lot of volunteering then. It would seem far more efficient to me to just make policies that encourage job creation instead of going to long way around about it. Anything so rich people can sit on bigger piles of money I guess.
Good Morning BT & Fiery Firepups of Fire:
Glad to see Schultz interviewing Nichols.
Hey Teabaggers: Club for Growth this…
True. All I know is that we had a push going to get a candidate to Primary against him and then Dr. Dean comes on the tubes to tell everyone it would be a terrible mistake to do that. Since then, the push has petered out.
Oh well, it won’t change my actions one bit. I still plan to write-in a candidate.
Fortunately, this place is less than 10 miles from my house. I’m planning on doing 6 or 7 hours a day, three days a week. Plus, I can bring home a free loaf of bread. :)
I think there are 2 kinds of voters: those who watch tv and those who don’t. Watching tv is passive. Surfing for news and reading it (not watching videos) is much more active. Reading a transcript is faster. Reading a news story is usually more informative. The corporations which control tv are far more dangerous than those which control newspapers.
Are you talking about setting boundaries? Seems important.
Good morning all.
Woohoo (((Demi))) The Best to you and you will meet tons of contacts.
I’m not really a fan of Ed’s, and I am kinda boycotting MSNBC. However, when Ed is out there with the cameras and showing the country what is going on, I will watch and support the protesters. Media coverage is so lacking in all things most important, so when Ed physically goes to cover it as a journalist, I will watch. Besides, the media corp will definitely notice the traffic even if they don’t understand the news portion of their nooze business.
Here’s a thought (probably nutty, but there I go): to help support the public employees when the Right is on an ideological rampage, why can’t Brue Springsteen show up? Perform for the crowd to help keep spirits up? Help get some media coverage? (MSM loves celebrity-driven news.) Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, freakin’ Justin Bieber…I don’t care. Obama isn’t there, but this can be revved up and spun positively for zombie consumption. Eh?
Very true. It’s pretty messed up. One of my older son’s friends recently graduated from UCLA. He moved to NY and the only job he could get was as a waiter, for tips only. The word on everyone’s lips is the economy and NO JOBS.
Must go soak my aching body – I kind of lied when I said a bit sore – so I can go back in today.
Toodles, all.
New post up top…
Congrats. And glad you’re staying out of trouble. When it’s the middle of the night, and I hear loud and boisterous yelling and beer bottles smashing in the street, I always think, “It’s Demi, out there carousing the neighborhood with her hoodlum friends…” So finally, I can get a good night’s sleep. heh
Mend sounds like a fine organization…
I could be mistaken, but I think YOU were one who encouraged me to go find a volunteer gig. Is that true? Thank you, dear.
Good for you! I have to be extremely careful. The spouse will be able to draw his first pension check in June, providing we can make it that long.
Says the guy who thinks Haley Barbour is way smart…
Well I have an interview this morning pups. bbl.
Excellent News! Good Luck, my Friend!
If it helps you sleep well, I’m even more happy.
MEND spends 91% of their donations on the clients. It’s an amazing organization.
Mornin’ Everyone
I am inspired by the events in Wisconsin – a week ago we were all but wistful we would ever see anyone rise up in this country as they did in Egypt
Qaddafi busted for paying Chad mercenaries
Tahrir was filled today
looks like Formula 1 will not be starting their season in Bahrain
several killed today in Sanaa, Yemen
Positive job interview vibes being sent your way.
Knock ‘em dead.
I heard Barbour more than once on the radio in the 90s when he was Repub National Chairman.
I am still laughing from when you said Steven Weinstein was a Zionist. The implication being that although he is a Nobel Prize winner in physics he wasn’t qualified to comment on the manned space program and its relative uselessness in scientific terms.
Some scientist you are! If the mouse doesn’t do what you want in the experiment, grab it by the tail and slam it against the edge of the table.
Ever heard of a thing called “media consolidation?” Many entities control TV, radio and newspapers in the same geographical radius. (And even outside of that radius, as well.)
I say, caveat emptor…
Hellz bells, Peet Seeger can still fog a mirror. Wouldn’t it be a blast if he showed up in WI? Joan Baez? Bob Dylan? Or just put up speakers and play the music to channel the ghost of Woodie Guthrie?
Or Willie Nelson.
I was listening to a bit of C-Span’s coverage of the “war on women” debate last night. These wingnuts are despicable people. (Not that we weren’t aware of that already, but it always bears repeating…)
O/T: A beautiful thing…
Yes. I don’t read any newspaper or watch any tv except online. So I have no geographical radius. But you are right.
Do you know anything about Obama’s Education policies and appointment of failed Chicago crony Arne Duncan? Not to mention Obama’s shadow education secretary, Bill Gates?Obama is the most rabid-anti public education president ever.
If he has his way, teacher’s unions will be shattered and we will be well on our way to the privatization of our public education system. Just like his fierce advocacy of the public option, for Obama, the problem with public education is that it’s public.
On education policy, Obama is like Bush
Obama Voices Approval for Firing of Rhode Island Teachers
Got Dough? How Billionaires Rule Our Schools
Good for the President my arse…
Suggestion to Obama: Make “This Land Is Your Land” your reelection theme song. The irony. Oh, the humanity.
That’s it. Keep babbling to yourself.
Steven Weinberg. My mistake. Too late to edit.
You’re basically preaching to the choir, and please keep doing it!
But I would like to concentrate on the statement that
I completely agree that the distribution of wealth in this country, probably all countries, is a terrible problem. Too much money is concentrated into the hands of too few people. But I think it is a symptom of a more fundamental problem: the willingness to hurt others in order to satiate one’s own greed.
If a person tends to be greedy, that greedy tendency is kept in check by the person’s unwillingness to hurt others. But if a person who is greedy is also willing to hurt others, then wealth inequity, tyranny, oppression, etc, begin.
a below avg Democratic president could have destroyed the GOP.
Not Obama he brings them back to life.
Is OBAMA stupid? NO
progressives learned a long time ago OBAMA was a trojan horse.
Obama is intentionally trying to destroy the democratic party
Scott Walker was created by OBAMA, Bill Clinton, etc.
Mr. Nafta = OBAMA
Mr. KAFTA = OBAMA (korea free trade policy)
Unions have not had a friend in the White House for almost 3 decades
Yup. Given Obama’s penchant for castrating unions whenever he can (see the GM bailout and the Rhode Island teachers union), his public support for teachers in WI and Ohio is only craven posturing. While the media’s attention is focused on the demonstrations, he fully supports the public unions, very much like he fully supported the public option during the campaign and the early months of negotiations. When the cameras are turned off he will not hesitate to betray those folks and throw them under the bus. After all, every American must share the pain of sacrifice – unless you’re rich.
Besides, Obama’s probably saying to himself, ” I wonder if I can pull off what this Walker guy’s doing, too?”
Witty.
Excellent Guardian article:
The agenda behind teacher union-bashing
The attacks on teachers and unions are not about educational reform, but turning the teaching profession into a service industry
I doubt even a self-loathing dork would show up to support Obamco at that crapfest.
Spot on, Ton. Just another example of the neo-liberal privatization fetish that puts America on the fast track in the race to the bottom – with the rich gettin’ richer and the rest of us… not.
Yes, I think you’re right, ahd he certainly doesn’t want to soil his hands by talking with middle income workers. Obama’s got his hand out to the people he considers his base: the wealthy. He always thinks in terms of his own political and financial well-being. He cast his lot with the wealthy long before he even gave is first major speech. The question is, how many poor working suckers can he bring along for the ride. My stomach turns thinking of how he’s going to trod over our middle class and our civil rights and how many more innocents he’ll murder with his drones if he gets four years of doing just as he pleases.
Clinton and Obama were on watch for the US working citizens.with NAFTA and Obama’s NAFTA Without Clinton help no NAFTA.Without Obama’s help no Korean NAFTA.
Krugman gets a nasty email from the NY Times publisher every Friedman unit to pull some of his punches on Obama, methinks. It must be that time of year again.
And good luck on the job hunt, much positive vibage sent your way.
been doing that for a good long while,PP, though flipping through channels I heard Rachel Maddow get excited about something that could spell the end of the Democratic Party, as we used to know it. Does anyone have any idea what she was talking about?
For me, I have absolutely no hope in the Dems at the National level. FDR, LBJ, JFK, and Harry S. would be ashamed to be associated with Dems like Obama, Reid, and Clinton.
Absolutely agree. I hope the people won’t give that $OB any kudos at all for his meaningless words of support for the unions. He can’t serve two masters: it’s the corporations or the people, and we all know who Mr. “I Want To Be Friends With Wealthy People So I Can Feel Important” loves.
I saw Ed Shultz last night and I like his enthusiasm. He even called out Faux News for everyone there. This shit in Wisconsin shows what can happen when we collectively have a hissy fit about the dems and the thugs take over. If they get this shit through there and in other states, it may take a generation to undo. Fuck!!@
It takes time, and events in a short enough time, for people to wake up to action. Most really just want to live their lives and not march and fight all day.
This is a good example of the frog and the boiling pot. the last 30 years has been little things, here and there, or major distractions (e.g. 911, terra, terra, fear, fear). Wisconsin is a good example of the MOTU’s lackeys turning up the heat too fast and the frog is jumping out. Still, much more pain will be needed before enough wake up to dispose of these MOTU’s and their servants.
This is also why I will probably vote against Obama, not just not vote, but actively try to defeat him, if there is no primary. He is too dangerous to this country. He has effectively split the left and neutered it, for the most part. In the meantime, he has been cementing into place all the beachheads the neo-cons and Fascists have been advancing over the last decade, and more. He is no friend of the poor and middle class, 96% of this country, but he creates enough confusion with his slick talk and cool corporate like (i.e. sociopathic) demeanor.
I never thought I would be missing Bush, but… fuck it, you know what I mean. Too cool for school Barry O is giving the shrub stiff competition for Worst. President. Ever.
makes me throw up in my mouth a little when I remember voting for the lying turd.
To all of you whose comments I read before the 2010 election who stated that you were poed at something Obama did or did not do so you were going to “teach him a lesson” by not voting in the 2010 election.
I blame every one of you losers for what is happening in every state.
The rethugs thruout the nation are out to bust the unions. You a**holes are part of the reason. The rethugs seem to believe that a majority of the people are behind them. Even tho only a minority actually bothered to vote.
Every damn smug ass person who sat on your hands this last election, I hope you are real happy because it is your damn fault that the rethugs took over so many states. In a redistricting year. Assholes. Idiots. The rethugs will be able to control the damn House for the next 5 election cycles because they will control how the lines are drawn. God damn every one of you smug idiots.
FightTheFuture,
Here all this time I thought Obama was a hustler. But maybe you’re right, and he presents the danger of a sociopath.
‘Future: excellent assessment of the sitch.
we may be assholes by your limited definition of the term timmy, but you’re blind to the goddamn truth. Obama, for all intents and purposes, is no different than Bush except for the color of his skin. Name one campaign promise he and his “historic” Democratic majority in Congress accomplished that wasn’t a sellout of the middle class to the wealthy and powerful. You can’t, because the Democratic party on the national level is just as corrupt as the repubs. Neither party represents the people on economic policy, only the rich and well-connected. The difference is that repubs are honest in their goals and objectives of working on behalf of the rich and dems pay lip service to protect the poor and middle class.
At least with that joke of a WI governor and state legislature being repubs there is no room for them to hide – and the people of Wisconsin are attempting to say something about it by these mass demonstrations. I hope they are successful, but if they aren’t and this POS bill goes through that may be the spark necessary to get enough people involved to either take back the Democratic Party from the current whores and sellouts who run it, or enough folks angry to start a viable third party movement that represents the middle and working classes.
Also, ask yourself this: if Obama had actually tried to keep his promises (closing Guatanamo, fighting for a Public Option, creating jobs, repealing the Bush tax cuts, instituting the rule of law) instead of giving us the condescending bull of “not making the perfect the enemy of the good” don’t you think the progressives would have had his back and come out in droves in 2010?
It is too bad that you don’t recognize that our system is broken. In the vast majority of cases, we have a choice of:
a. Republican candidates
b. Democratic candidates who these days are typically neo-liberals.
Those are not choices which benefit the working and middle classes. Voting for the “status quo” candidates continues just that…the “status quo” which as we have seen is destroying the working and middle class. To blame voters who want democracy, a real choice between candidates, and a better system because they didn’t vote for one of the legacy candidates is just…. Nothing will change until enough people recognize that the system is broken.
You’re a tad bit shortsighted, Timmah. These marches and protests we are seeing is because the rethugs have gotten into power and are now trying to shove their shit down peoples’ throats way to fast. Contrast this with when the Chamberlain Corpro-Dems are in power. They are still giving away the country, piece by piece, but slowly, though, so the frogs don’t jump out. Much more dangerous. I am not saying most are purposeful on this, some are. I think most just lost their spine and principles a long way back and, like the whores they are, went sniffing for the green.
There is no real alternative political party in the US that can actually make a real difference, not in the next several elections. All you have is smooth talkin’-right and crazy-right. Well, the extreme right is going so far right they are wrecking the Republicans just fine. It is now exposing the Democratic Party as broken tool for the people, and an effective safety release valve for the Oligarchs. People are catching on, but not because the Democrats, but because the R’s are overreaching too fast and the Dems are showing how weak they are. So let them.
In the meantime, we can try to find some good dems to push at the local levels on up, but I am happy to see the R’s wreck things real fast. We will get there anyway with the Dems, but not as fast so the MOTU’s have a chance to solidify their gains. Obama has been great for them on this. Time to let the clowns in to mess it up real fast, as they will. Then we will get an Egypt here.
