About Firedoglake
Haley Barbour has no conscience. He is prepping his doomed presidential run and does not want to be seen as crossing the tea party racists, because thy are quite literally the only remaining core of the GOP. The party has kicked out everyone else. All that’s left is KKK apologists and kooky Ron Paul types hat want to dissolve the union and go back to gold…

The women of Italy do not have much amor for Mr. Berlusconi.
Good Morning, BT
Was it your intention to link to two NYT pages where we have to sign in? Or was that an oops?
Good morning pups,
Regarding Herbert’s article. I hope the HBO special is better than the PBS “American Experience” that seemed to endlessly mythologize the man.
PBS Fair and Balanced.
Pop quiz. Which one’s the trained monkey?
This morning, naked capitalism linked to this mind-blowing video with Jeffrey Sachs.

Good morning all.
What’s shaking?
Mornin’
Did anyone see the Philly fireball? I’m disappointed I missed it.
The folks in Rhode Island are going to be freezing, 40,000 of them who receive heating assistance, just so Mr. Sacks of Gold can keep more of his income in tax cuts:

democracynow is doing in-depth coverage on USG & Wisconsin budget this morning.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Jigme Norbu, the Dalai Lama’s nephew was killed by a car in northern FL yesterday. Another senseless way to die.
Jeffrey Sachs was fabulous. Thanks for that.
:(
Nobody could have ever seen this coming:
That’s because Obama and big (insert industry/corporation here) are BFFs.
Good morning.
When I first moved to FL I used to shuck oysters for beer at a great little beach bar named, appropriately enough, The Oyster Shucker. Lived right behind it and could crawl home if I had to. Ah, such fond memories.
After reading online news about how prices of everything will rise fairly drastically by the fall because of the economy being so damn robust, and then reading the highlights of Obama’s budget proposals, one has just one question to ask. Who are the Dems going to run in 2012 on the Presidential ticket? The Reps have Obama, so who are the Dems going to have? And more questions, why are we libs/progs STILL running this “oh my Gawd, be afeared of the evil Republicans” strategy all over the internet? Whatever happened to Nancy Pelosi and the Dems in Congress?
SD, was this a real accident?
I almost thought that would have been about the Phillies pitchers (the big four) and catchers reporting yesterday!
Snark, right? Seein’s how the price of wheat and cotton are up due to either too much rain or drought and corn is up because so much is funneled into ethanol production.
Bwahahahaha……Blue America is drooling all over Carol Mosley Braun over Rahm….really, is there any difference there? She isn’t exactly a shining example of liberalness. Not by a mile.
All I know is what’s in that short article. First heard about it on the radio this morning, along with the news of the death of pianist George Shearing.
MSNBC is reporting that everything is going up because businesses want the profit margins back, now that the economy is secure. I kid you not. Think the government will finally admit there is inflation when prices go up 10% or more?
Just an observation on raygun worship. It seems that the more things are shown of how raygun was not what he is supposed to have been, the more the worship grows among the true believers.
Well, the govt can put out all their rosy employment figures but I’m betting retailers are in for a hard time of it this year. People are back to borrowing for their impulse buying but that’s not gonna help much as 3-400K are laid off every week.
George Shearing is one of my favorites. We he played it was as if he laid a silk scarf over the keyboard. I only got to see him twice, once in Morristown, NJ and at the 92nd St. Y in NYC. I was not the least bit disappointed.
FL drivers are notorious for running down bicyclists and pedestrians.
My dad was a pianist and we saw him a number of times in DC when I was a kid. Saw Peggy Lee once too.
I think cb was just mentioning what he had read in the msm, not his own personal belief.
Since we’re still dredging up the corpse of Raygun, what has the impact on hinm of the assassination attempt made two months into his presidency?
Yeah, according to corporate media everything’s just hunky dorry.
I await your theory with bated breath.
Somone is suggesting that Preznit Stepin Fetchit should be primaried.
Corporations are saying that their profit margins have to increase this year. I agree with you, it will be an ugly year for all. My snark was that the MSM is doing the reporting on this. They aren’t stating price increases due to drought, speculating, or anything like that. They are saying the reason for these huge spikes in prices, are corporations going back to the profits formula, what is it 34% or something like that? Economists have been flapping for years how there is no inflation, even though they are all wrong. When your wages are stagnant, or declining in most cases, and prices rising, is that not inflation? So how could it be close to zero for the last decade, when most people actually make less and pay at least the same for what they need?
Morning BT & Firepups:
Gotta give it to L. O’Donnell on this one. He whacked out O’Reilly very nicely. Let’s see if Loofah Man responds. I dare him…
Can’t happen soon enough for me but what the piece doesn’t say is that the Democrats are the new Republicans, embracing economic policies while still embracing (at least nominally) diversity. The question is not whether the Republican will go extince, the question is what will arise to represent the liberals and progressives in this country? And will it have a fucking backbone?
There’s nothing fishy about this?
All within two hours:
Read the letter. It is so well written, it could have been written by William Shakespeare. By a first year college dropout, not so much.
They won’t ever admit it. They have nothing to combat inflation with because the prime interest rate is already so low. Admitting it would be tantamount to saying the house is on fire but whoops, we used all the fire extinguishers putting out the barbeque pit last year.
Socialist Party USA
Quite the assumption on your part.
Remember all to well Kucinich, groveling at Obama’s *ss regarding the great Health Insurance Corporate Reprofitization Act. Kuc says some great things at times, but seems to do like most politicians—-fold like a card table when push comes to shove.
Oh come on. I dropped out of school six weeks into the tenth grade and would put my knowledge and writing skills up against any college graduate. That’s a prejudice that you’re advancing.
Bookmarked, thanks. :)

You mean the conspiracy? G’Morning SD & All….
Good morning Margaret!
Ya, they really have used up all their options. BBQ on fire? Well then the cure is add gas!! More gas!!
See the Repeal The Constitution Act passed pretty easy. So much for all those liberal Dems in Congress.
Wisconsin
GovEmperor Scott Walker will break tradition and not deliver his State Budget Address in the Legislative chambers but in a local agriculture business warehouse. Private security measures or control of public access into the capitol building or not enough room for his cronies? The questions remain unanswered so far as to why.Edit: Maybe he can sell tickets for campaign fundraising, I should have considered that angle.
Read the letter. It has the drama of Hamlet. I’ve gone through most of Shakespeare, but I could never approach the level of that letter.
He doesn’t say he’s running. He’s simply saying there should be a primary challenge.
Tells me perhaps Hinckley had more on the literary ball than you do.
Mississippi House has 122 members, 68 Dems and 54 Repubs.
Mississippi Senate has 52 members, 26 Repubs, 25 Dems and 1 vacancy.
http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Mississippi_House_of_Representatives
http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Mississippi_Senate
So, there are sufficient Dems in the House to kill any attempt to create a tag honoring Nathan Bedford Forrest. Mississippi has a Forrest County, (Hattiesburg is the county seat) named in honor of Nathan Bedford Forrest, and carved out of an existing county in 1908.
Forrest died in 1877. Reconstruction ended and Union troops withdrew from the South as part of the bargain resolving the Presidential election of 1876.
And your point would be…
I don’t rule that out, but it’s unlikely. In two hours, Shakespeare couldn’t have crafted a work as as polished as the purported Hinckley letter to Forster.
Thanks to David Dayen for his continuing attention to our State.
So, there are sufficient Dems in the House to kill any attempt to create a tag honoring Nathan Bedford Forrest.
It has the smell of someone being too clever by half.
It doesn’t matter. You’re making some rather dramatic assumptions based on nothing.
It’s unrealistic though and he knows it. Kuc is starting to sound like a used car salesman. Says all the right things, but knows when push comes to shove, he has to get you to buy the car. Should Obama be primaried? Yes. Will it make much diff? No. Perhaps this election, libs should be trying to affect who gets the nod in the Republican half of the kabuki theater. Seriously. If Obama wins 2012, it would be a miracle on his part. So why not put your eggs in the other basket? What is there to lose? There is already a Rethuglican in the White House. Why not make it at least a better Rethuglican?
The Bush family had Frank Luntz write it for him, right?
gvandergrift thinks that Haley Barbour is just the bee’s knees. According to him, only Pat Buchanan and Jon Kyl approach his smarts. See yesterday’s morning swim.
I remember it well. Load of horseshit.
Ah! That’s right. I saw your comment toward the end.
I think there should be a ban about starting our morning with Barbour…Not the way to start the day….or, end it, Im guessing.
Is that your opinion?
What I believe they will do is run somebody who doesn’t have any real chance of winning sort of as a token to appease the progressive base they’ve been crapping all over. Won’t matter to me, I’m still voting third party. No votes for Vichy Dems.
I also brought up Phil Gramm. You probably were gone by then. Do you even read the posts addressed to you? Where did I say ONLY?
No, I figured that’s what you’d come up with. You’re the master conspiracy theorist around here, not me.
Yeah…El Peurco Gordo de Barbour is never a pleasant topic.
It’s Moseley. I spelled it wrong yesterday, also. Hope I’m not setting a bad example. Probably giving myself too much credit.
Agree with you on that one. More Kabuki, half the calories.
Did you come across this comment by Brad Friedman? Do you fell the $250 figure is realistic?
No, you’re right. I don’t go back in the archives to continue arguing with people who think that Republican luminaries are heroic and brilliant.
LOL….ya, I noticed that after I hit submit. Either/Or, she’s not exactly a shining liberal even compared to Rahmbo. She’s as corrupt as he is. Just more of the vote for evil, or vote for evil.
What do you think of demagoguery as a way of life? I don’t think I said HEROIC, either.
Nice subject change. Is that how much you get paid?
There’s still that little matter of an error filled quote you posted and could or would not source.
nonquixote,
I have lots of friends next door in Wisconsin from college days.
I predict a LaFollette reaction as progressive Badgers retake their state from these jackals.
Hang in there.
No, you didn’t say “heroic” but the implication was there. It was obvious you were getting Tweety style thrills up your leg. Ray Charles could have seen that.
And about as penetrating as a loaf of unbaked bread.

Details, please. Your post has no content. You might as well have posted a frowning emoticon.
Haley is not nice, not a lib, not a prog, so he can’t be smart. All smart people are libs or progs and agree with you. That’s your position, right?
It’s amazing how backasswards the South Dakota House can be. SOmeone should give these ideologues a real job…like cleaning donkey dung off the roads in the Black Hills.
Not at all. I said Barbour is a racist. Now you’re putting words in my mouth. Goodbye for now but expect me to turn up and point out your trollish ways. People on this blog deserve to know what you are.
You’re repeating yourself. Time for Troll Bingo.
They get to live in their insulated world away from the poverty and illness their
constituentssubjectsvictims have to face every day.More than just hanging in, we have a small group phoning local State Rep/Sen offices about their continuous rubber stamping the latest of the Emperor’s decrees conveniently placed on their legislative chair, each time they take their seat for, “debate.”
WPR headline news, just stated that we will be not be accepting grant monies that funded high-speed internet to many state schools and public libraries. Too many strings attached to the (I believe announcer said Fed) grants. Something else to deprive poor and jobless from access to information and on-line job or on-line educational programs. It is a huge needed service in our county.
No, I’m not. Actually I phrased it as a question. People on this blog can read my words and can correct me if my thinking is wrong. They probably don’t need to have you call me names.
I take it you disagree with me but can’t put your objections into words. An emoticon is more succinct.
LMAO! Please. “Correct (you) if (you’re) thinking is wrong”? Spare me. You wouldn’t admit you were wrong if your position was that the moon is made out of bologna, which by the way, most of your arguments are.
I hope that link gets its’ own post here at FDL. I also hope we bring Jeffery Sachs here ASAP for a Salon.
If only more voices would come together as a force and state what he is stating.
Get to the point. Show me my error.
Maybe Hinkley didn’t write it in two hours. Maybe, obsessed with Jodie Foster, he had written it over a period of months.
Actually, it isn’t all that well written. You must have pretty low standards.
That link says the reason to primary Obama is the war in Afghanistan and his refusal to cut back the welfare payments to the Military Industrial folk – they don’t include cutting the Pentagon manpower in half – or indeed the 30 other reasons I list out – including the death of health reform and its replacement by health ins “reform” that doesn’t even include a public option.
But I am told that the Black Caucus has let it be known that primarying Obama would be considered a racist act – it is good to be half white/haff white – at least in this case.
