As scary as CPAC was, keep in mind: it was insufficiently wingnutty for a whole swath of the right-wing movement, as Erick Erickson helpfully reminds us.
Are you a loser? If you are the Heritage Foundation, Media Research Center, Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, the American Principles Project, Jim DeMint, Jim Jordan, Rush Limbaugh (given his comments yesterday on CPAC), and others — you are losers.
Grover Norquist says so. Norquist, last week, called those who chose not to participate in CPAC and those who share those views “losers.”
Those groups and individuals didn’t attend this year because CPAC let the homos in. Can’t have that.
Oh, and Muslims aren’t welcome either.
Grover Norquist is caught on tape praising Democrats’ sympathetic views toward muslims in America and attacking Lt. Colonel and Congressman Allen West for “attacking Muslims.” West, who served in Iraq and was a civilian adviser in Afghanistan, might just know what he is talking about.
Norquist was “caught on tape” arguing that bigotry towards anyone, including Muslims, should not be tolerated. This position, apparently, is unacceptable to Erickson, who then sides with a guy who said:
“We already have a 5th column that is already infiltrating into our colleges, into our universities, into our high schools, into our religious aspect, our cultural aspect, our financial, our political systems in this country. And that enemy represents something called Islam and Islam is a totalitarian theocratic political ideology, it is not a religion. It has not been a religion since 622 AD, and we need to have individuals that stand up and say that.”
Why does CNN have an unrepentant bigot on its payroll?

Years before the bank collapse Lou Dobbs business show became a daily hate the immigrants show. Its almost like CNN knew that the Bush tax cuts would destroy the economy and the wanted to blame immigrants for what they knew would happen.
CNN was just recently bought out by AOL when Lou shifted from business show to hate show. AOL are the same jokes who bought the Huff Post recently.
Given AOL’s record of buying and destroying CNN, Time magazine etc….do I have to worry if they are calling Jane?

I saw a bumper sticker yesterday on the black suv, which cut me off just so they could be in front of me at the red light, that read Abortion: Take a life, Break a heart. It steamed me. I half contemplated having my foot accidently slip off the brake. But, I didn’t.

BT I never thought I would ever find myself agreeing with Grover just how bad is it for the GOP that Grover in order to win feels he must lecture the racists something he has had ample opportunity to do but never felt the Need to do before.

On the good news side of the ledger for CPAC, it apparently disinvited Frank Gaffney as too far out there.

Given AOL’s record after they got control CNN changed Lou’s business show to a racist show then they hired Glen Beck well if AOL keeps up their pattern I would expect them to call Jane about wanting to buy her out.
In this economy I’m hoping she is not tempted. But yeah agreed Jane has more integrity that does not mean AOL won’t tempt her though.

Verrrry funny. Reporter on cnbc (of all places) is using wikileaks state dept description of Russia (mafia, no rule of law, etc) to ask a Russian oligarch about that characterization. He, of course, denigrates state dept characterization and reporter lets him get away with it.

The funny thing if you want to call it that about the homosexual issue is that many of these people are closeted. When i watched it for an hour at least one of the men who spoke was obviously a closeted homosexual. Which is probably why he has so much hatred towards them. Conservatives do have alot of infighting and have for the past 10 years when dubya took over the party. Unfortunately all this does i think is make people ignore the horrid problems with the dem party. I mean why arent we talking about getting rid of the dems in the next election?
Oh cnn is a horrible channel. I watched it briefly about 10 years ago and as people mention it quickly became obviously that it was no longer about news.

I consider myself VERY left wing, and I think the right is pretty much correct about Islam. There is absolutely no need for the left to support any kind of Muslim activity in the US. Islam is a religion of ignorance. Supporting Islam is not very different from supporting the KKK. You guys need to educate yourselves on this topic. Just because the right wingers hate the Muslims doesn’t mean they are wrong. Islam IS a threat to our advancement as a species, and a threat to America. And I find it VERY dishonest to equate hating the Muslims with hatred for gays. “The gays” have no interest in theocratic rule. Just because the Right is dumbed-down does NOT mean the Left has to do it too. Actual thought is possible, and it’s probably a good idea. I read “May” somewhere yesterday. I am pretty much divorced from cable. When the previous owners moved out of my house, they canceled their cable, but Comcast never shut it off, so for 7 years I’ve had “free” expanded basic. I watch so little TV, and before I discovered Keith and Rachel it was pretty much network TV like CBS, NBC, PBS, so I didn’t feel guilty.
Now they’ve converted to all digital so I can’t get MSNBC, and I’m not about to sign up for Comcast and pay them for TV I don’t watch, plus the converter box and monthly fee for that. I can pretty much watch what I’m interested in online.
GOT IT! just went to the web site. It is channel 358 on my provider.
Dunno. I had to drop DirecTV when I moved here because I have lots of heavy trees close to the house and can’t get line-of-sight for their satellites. Or at lest I couldn’t 7 years ago.
Hoping I will be able to watch either online or via the Roku my kids bought me for my birthday.

Erickson is babbling as a result of the same old extremist dynamic, whether one is speaking of anti-communism, anti-Islam, or anti-whoever else is the enemy of the moment. Moderation equals insincerity, and being less than totally extreme is suspect. The question of why CNN wants to promulgate that dynamic is the disturbing aspect of the story-how does it benefit CNN to push more extremism?
