Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody
Joe Cocker – You Are So Beautiful
Foreigner – I want to know what Love is
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours…!
What’s on your mind tonite…?
CT! Musical madness! Happy V-Day!
Santana – Soul Sacrifice
Congrats, Kris…! ;-)
Lost love from my generation – Konstantine – Something Corporate.
Aloha, MW…! Carlos is always awesome…!
Aloha, TG…! Is that always your first response…? ;-)
And for the record, video numero uno is the best. Joe Crocker and Foreigner are cool and all, but the Righteous Brothers were Righteous!
Happy St. Valentine’s Day. Time for a musical massacre. A nice one.
The Pillows – Sleepy Head
Valentine’s Day is when a lot of married men and women are reminded what a poor shot Cupid really is….
I tried to pick one from each decade; 60′s,70′s, and 80′s…!
Heh. “You are so Beautiful…To Me” is how I ultimately landed Mr. B
Aloha, robert…! *heh* I’ve been wedded for 20 yrs now…! ;-)
It’s also my wife’s birthday, so for me Valentine’s Day is the day before I contemplate bankruptcy every year :(
Since I can’t say goodbye to Attackerman directly, I’ll say it here. Goodbye, dude. His posts often gave me the feeling that we were living in a Doonesbury cartoon.
Cold War – Janelle Monae
Aloha, pat…! That’s first time I’ve heard of the Pillows…!
Ahhhh, yer still a newlywed. Me & The Sweety just celebrated our 32nd….
There were decades after that, ya know. Like the ’90s! When the music was awesome! Boyz II Men cover of The Beatles’ Yesterday. Acapella no less!
Aloha, Kelly…! That was the song, eh…? ;-)
Huh? Spencer’s gone?
They did the theme song for flcl, an anime wherein… you don’t want to know.
Have you been to his new digs…?
Yes, but not forgotten, by any stretch…
I just love to do special things for The Sweety on Valentine’s day. Like open the door for her when she puts all the laundry in the washing machine, or plug and unplug the vacuum as she moves from room to room cleaning. Guys, it’s these little thoughtful things you can do to have a marriage such as mine….
NM, found his goodbye post. Which, oddly enough, also features a Boyz II Men song…
You’re insufferable tonight, LOL.
Well that one struck the deal, when I found he had a piano at his house. I actually snagged him Two-Stepping country at a gay bar.
I know, TMI. But 10 years now. That’s about 100 in straight years.
That’s about 100 in straight years.
*heh* 10:1 ratio eh…? Good to know…!
Happy Valentines Day all .. just a drive by wishing you all the best … just a song to make us think twice /s
*heh* mileage may vary…! ;-)
Hey, she owes me a lot. I’ll never forget the night we first met. I stepped out of the bar and found her passed out half on the sidewalk/half on the road. So, I picked her up and carried her to my apartment, got her smelly clothes off and gave her a good bath. I bought her a new dress the next morning, fed her a good breakfast; then spent weeks teaching her how to talk like a human being instead of making nothing but gutteral sounds. I sent her off for some schoolin’ Now she thinks she’s smarter than me!
That’s why you can’t give women and education!
And with that, I’m off. Honey’s ready to go to bed, and it is her birthday after all.
Now she thinks she’s smarter than me!
That’s why you’re sleeping on the couch for a month.
Yep – the other way to think about it, with all the difficulties, is that you’ll have to be married 10x longer than me to have the same amount of wedded satisfaction!
;) Just saying…
So true. Just makes them uppity….
I once *almost* made a pass at a woman I went out with for a while. On the way to a comedy club she was explaining her awful relationship with her father (always a GOOD sign in a budding relationship – she hates dad! /s). I said, “I’m sorry to hear that,” to which she casually replied at the top of her lungs, “STOP PATRONIZING ME!!!!!”
Lots of laughs that night!
Aloha, tearloch…! Isn’t it cool that Leon and Elton teamed up to produce a new album…?
Aloha, newt…! ;-)
Not true. I bought that couch for her so I could get some sleep, but she always manages to slither in and wake me up for God knows what!
I figured after what she went through birthing our daughter, she’d leave me be. Just can’t figure her out….
It is a beautiful album .. mature and special in so many ways ..
Aloha, Suz…! Three strikes and yer out, eh…? ;-)
CT, thanks for Foreigner.
You bought HER the couch to sleep on?
Another woman someone tried to set me up with didn’t have a couch. She explained she had one once. She said she got rid of it “because no lazy musician boyfriend of mine is going to sleep on it any more!”
As my alter-ego is a musician, it was a very short relationship. I need my rest!
already got two… ain’t gonna go anywhere near that third…
No, Suzanne. Love doesn’t stink. It’s just the price we all pay for never being satisfied with just ourselves….
Ha ha .. happy day Suz .. it sure can stink .. it can also melt you into a blob of goo .. helpless and too damn vulnerable by half .. “better to have loved and lost, than loved and shot ‘em ’cause they pissed ya off once too many time, ’tis said .. /G
evening, CT Hiya, Suzzz
Aloha, Twain…! You’re welcome…! ;-)
Astute and witty at the same time .. damn, you should try writing .. /s
There are a lot of people happy with themselves. They just don’t get a lot of airplay/print.
Don’t blame ya at all…! The better half has told me from time to time that if we’d ever got divorced she’d start looking at women…! ;-)
More musicians have been ruined by infatuated women who demand they give up their careers to stay in bed with them.
Look at Pricilla Presley. She knew she was marrying Elvis, but right after the “I Do’s”, she wanted him to stop being Elvis….
A man/woman of simple yet exquisite taste …. just keep ‘em out of the sun and you are fine …
Best Folk Rock Love Song Evah. 27 Years This June, I Still Sing It To Her.
Best to all lovers out there . . . hug ‘em close.
Aloha, PPD…! How’re you doing tonite…?
It’s the price we pay for being biological creatures.
There are other universes, you know. You didn’t have to pick this one. There’s that perfectly lovely one with all of those crystalline life forms. Rather static, I’ll admit, but you know, you never have to clean anyone’s dirty linens there. And no one is ever late for an appointment! ;-)
worst pickup line
Might it have had something to do with the millions of women hurling their underwear at him?
Oh, heck no.
I remember telling my father over a couple cold beers that I was fixing on marrying The Sweety. Dad got quiet, burped a bit; then gave me “The Talk”….
A bad relationship? Yeah, probably.
Aloha, Larue…! Hug the missus for me…! Glad to hear she’s doing well…! *g*
My ex hated this song .. could I help it that we were doing it in the band at the time and had to sing it a lot to get it right?.. sheesh ..
just fine, thanks – How’s everything in paradise tonight, CT?
I identify with that song: love the one your with. I do my best to love The Sweety, but my heart belongs to Barbara Mandrell….
Those three little words.
As fast as you can!!!!
Hell, she knew before she married Elvis a million other women wanted him. After all, she was one of the million…
Doing a drive-by. On my mind tonight….oh,fucking why do I do this…?
I went to our little fucking store to get some tobacco before I killed somebody. No problem. But then I think, why not get a sixpack? Big fucking mistake in a small community.
So, now I’m fucking screwing with the Community Council to release $75 out of the donated funds for Community Meals with a balance of $420.
Sometimes,……..you just have to cook. Vegetarian pasta[not boring], salad and bread. I’ve spent 4 hours calling Council Members for their Yea/Nay vote to get a majority Yea on $75 for feeding, hopefully, 100.
Man, I just can’t not do this socialist/community Thang.
The A Team is signing on, as I write, to kick ass on food. For $75.
I wish there was a place without Politics, somedays.
When you’re a musician, maybe I’d believe you. And you’re certainly not a woman.
Entitled to your opinion but, like Robert Heinlein, I think you’re wrong on both counts.
Yoko Ono would be another example…
Thanks CT and the best to you and yours on this day and all days!
Unchained Melody still just gets it done . . . great, great song by Bill and Bobby.
Nice pick to lead with!
Typo, I fixed it for ya . .
So Dad filled me in on what to expect. “Women are the most determined hunters there is,” he said. “But after they bag a man, they spend the rest of their days trying to prove he don’t really love her. She gets out of the shower and looks at her nude body and can’t imagine what the sneaky S.O.B. sees in what she’s seeing, so he must’ve been conning her all along and been cheating big time with every woman who never wanted him but her…
Aloha, openhope…! Best of luck…! Do keep up the ‘fight’ tho…! ;-)
Something about relation ships here; yes, it’s opera so skip it if you think you can’t stand it.
But it’s beautiful, and says so much…
Paranoid much…? ;-)
That’s beautiful, Kris.
Here’s one from long ago
Love Pavarotti .. man’s contagious love of music is catching ..
If you weren’t standing in front of the cooler getting sucked into local politics, just trying to get a sixpack. Hard to describe the twist of fate. It just happens. And there you are donating fucking hours to your community. No politics…, Just Come, Eat, Talk,..Leave before the Meeting if you have to. Be here now.
Just had 3 great cooks sign up for bread. Oh, yeah. The women will do it and their men will help Set Up.
small steps in a wild world
In “Che Gelida Manina” Rodolfo sings so from the heart. He loves Mimi, no matter what.
I happen to have that love from Mr. B. And I could just burst!
Naw, just reminicing. So I asked Dad if all he told me was true, how come he and The Mom had stayed 26 years married. He told me he learned to kiss her ass every day and twice on Sundays, and always, in the process, appreciate what a lovely ass her’s was to kiss….
He was not much for giving her Valentine cards…
Esther Knows Love.
Aloha, Margot…! Great song…!
I have a very depressing link. It’s not Happy Valentine’s Day stuff. I don’t know if anyone should read it today, especially if you’re in a good mood. Or depressed.
I should have posted this in the Late Night thread where everyone was already in a bad mood.
I’m not suggesting you read this tonight. And it gives a hit to the nouveau-evil HP. But you should read this.
It’s what we’ve become. And it stinks. Where is our revolution?
You are a lucky man then .. love is to be cherished for too soon it can be gone .. my true love died with 2 of her 3 children in 1990, coming back from a Robbie Burn’s celebration her son was playing the pipes at .. since then I have been pretending .. /s
Love’s Better N Wine (Although The Two Make A Lovely Pair, My Honey N My Merlot.
I screwed up the link. I corrected it.
Some girls are just different.
Thanks. Sorry to sound semi-nuts. But, shit. I can’t believe I got sucked into this shit again.
The bright side is,… it’s really a good thing to break bread as a community. So, I’ll cook.
Nite CT, Suz, Pups, hug ‘em close . . . we do it all over again in the morrow, with any luck.
I Never Shall Marry
(I’ve never heard anyone sing it live who hadn’t been married!)
That letter breaks my heart and makes me so fucking mad .. American exceptionalism my ass .. good night and be safe all ..
Congrats, Margot…! ;-)
congrats on your century and hi, margot
Pleasant Dreams, Larue…!
It is a good thing…! *g*
That is a powerful letter…! Is the letter writer still alive…? I fervently hope so…!
Hi PPD, this keeps happening!
I almost posted this song instead of the Foreigner song… Open Arms…
I understand when it really is impossible to even see the tiniest dot of light at the end of such a nightmare.
I’m thinking about Egyptians, but the rest won’t get passed the moderator….
I’ve been silly tonight, poking fun at love, Valentines and the woman I love. But I don’t want to count my blessing through the misery of a million out of work, out of their homes, out of chances. I want those of us that still can to stop patching the problem with good will and charity. I want us to figure out how to kill this 99er’s beast.
I’m spending a lovely evening working on computers. In fact, the entire day. Heck, the weekend going back to Friday has been a computer amusement park.
It all started with a bug.
Tonight’s ensemble includes moving 25GB off of one server, onto another, moving /var off of one drive and onto another, upgrading Debian to the latest version out 3 days ago, and reformatting the /var drive with ext4, all over the net.
If you’ve read this far…
Post-computer Repair Guitar Love?
I understand he’s left us.
Have the powers that be not only conquered our dreams, but psychologically neutered our instincts to survive?
I Never Shall Marry was the warm up song at my wedding. :]
The bonging of the clock.
Perfect 100, Margot.
That’s what I’d feared…! 8-(
I wish I could read that far. I’ve had 2 friends going to teach me how to use my Mac. Each one has had to go back to Canada because of our “health care” system. I can’t begin to describe my ignorance….:]
How many more have gone or will go where that 99er went? What does it take before we all take our national manhood back?
What a great song for a wedding:)
I think many people are near the breaking point with this corrupt, self-serving government of little minds with big guns, both here and abroad.
I also think the political right did a bang-up job crucifying the peace movement and everyone connected with it to the point where it’s considered unpatriotic to question authority across a wide swath of this corporate Nirvana. Not that it ever was, mind you.
The good news is, so many mainstream, everyday people see what’s happening now. The internet, and social media in particular, are transforming the world.
Can it happen here, in the land of the freeper and the home of the craven?
Happy Valentines Day, pups!
A friend of mine and Ms ET, sent us Valentines every year for decades. He killed himself on January 8.
Here’s the first one he sent we still have.
That letter could be a focal point like ‘We are all Khaleed Said’ was for the Egyptians…!
Of course, the Egyptian dictator didn’t have what our government has for crowd control: machines that can emit sounds that rupture eardrums or spike severe burning pain on the surface of our skin…
Aloha, ET…! Sorry for your loss…!
We used to at least have pride. They’ve stolen that from most of us, too.
I hope to God* it does.
*Or the SOB who programmed a quantum universe wherein creatures devour each other to survive. We call those creatures politicians.
“No matter what they take from me,
They can’t take away my dignity”
We’re probably headed down for his memorial service in Seattle on March 12 - James L. Acord.
Yes, they do have toys for crowd control in America.
I am sad for your and our collective loss. What a wonderful approach to a horrific problem.
I’d like to see more of his art.
Ah, but would they use them now that our CIC has chastised other nations for using crowd control on protesters? This place is steeped in irony, no doubt about it.
I remember you posting about him…! Did you see that the Knesset passed the Bishara law…? Posted about it earlier today…
Soon, they’ll strip us of that too when they have us fighting with one another for the few crumbs left. They’re not afraid of us. Did you read David Dayen’s FDL piece today: http://news.firedoglake.com/2011/02/14/geithner-i-for-one-welcome-our-new-financial-overlords/
Geither still endorses our oppressors as our saviors….
I’m so sorry for your sorrow. And his.
ET, this is probably an inappropriate thing to say…if it is,..my sincere apologies. I don’t always get things right.
Life is energy. Some people are destined to release their energy back into the void before their loved ones would wish it. It’s a hard emotion for the survivors.
Well, they used them on the Ladies Book Club that blockaded the Stryker loadings a couple of years ago. We got called up for reinforcements but couldn’t get down there until 20 hours after the Military Assault on the Book Club Ladies. Roughed up, tear gassed, detained, concussion bombs, rubber bullets.
We got down there the next day for the next protest. Not a fucking cop in sight. No fucking crowd control present.
Lots of spooks, though.
That 99er was wrong about one of his observations, that the country had gone evil. It is not we the people who have brought on his suicide, it is the evil greed of a few who took his life.
We need to sack the entire cabinet and replace them with true progressives…! 8-(
As a few of you may know .. I live in Canada .. with our health care and all, tho WE pay for it .. in so many ways .. but even we are feeling this oppressive side to our governing bodies .. they are squeezing pensions, health care, unemployment, or as we call it “Employment Insurance” .. what an uplifting fucking switch of rhetoric that was ..
My heart breaks at reading the letter of the man who had no other option but to take his own life to retain the smallest semblance of his dignity .. for fuck’s sake .. we live in North America! .. and WE feel this? I went and sat on the couch in the dark and cried .. to feel this poor man’s loss of hope in all that we take for granted ..
If we really care .. we must join “openhope” and start to organize .. join anyone who is trying to care for those who need us and mobilize our electorate ..
Either that or join the NRA and get ready to adapt to your Second Amendment alternatives .. it is never too soon to plan and never too late to care .. I weep for where we are in this world .. and my recompense has always been “tit for tat” ..
That must’ve rattled the PTB’s with all that bad press of assaulting the Book Club Ladies…! No wonder they still want to see our library records, eh…? ;-)
Cleaning my Gun…
Tearloch7, I just cut our health insurance off. We can either pay 1/4 of our “income” as recently [6 months] unemployed and pretend we’re covered…or we admit we’re going to do as serfs do.
We had great insurance, we were lower middle class. Now, our kids have secure jobs with good insurance. And we feel lucky.
Fuck me to tears if this is America.
Speaking of libraries, does anyone know what books Cheney’s boys removed from the Library of Congress and what became of them? I recall the story of semis from a shredding outfit showing up at his bidding. Were these stories related?
What were those books the Reich thought were too dangerous for us to read after 9/11/2001?
I was under the impression it was to shred the WH visitors logs, Cheney’s Energy plan notes and whatever else he had stuffed in that ‘man-sized’ safe of his…
Timmy was born with a platinum spoon up his ass. The entire federal government only exists to fatten cats so morbidly obese with money they fart themselves tax breaks before lunch.
My Pet GWOT.
Oooh, speaking of the power of Libraries. I heard a great report on npr about a town in England, about the size of my town.
England’s a bit ahead in their brutal social programs cuts and earmarked 400 public libraries for permanent closure. One library was a beloved institution in a town that wasn’t going to go down without a fight.
The people got together and checked out every book in the library. They’d return them and check out whatever books were there, since the shelves were bare.
Their library go saved from demolition.
Well my post above was moderated because I stated the obvious .. I am one more “modification” from finding another place to share .. I suppose I should not care so much, but I lost 5 uncles in WWII to “keep democracy flowing” .. and these bastards, both in the US and Canada, have subverted and contorted and made it all so meaningless .. CTut uses the subtlety of Mr Knopfler’s tune to make my point .. thanks Tut ..
Moderator .. you don’t believe in the 2nd Amendment ?? neither did I up til now .. /w
Those were big semis. There had to be more. How much data did a few meetings with his closest friends generate, anyway? Would you really need to hire that kind of hardware to shred a few dozen meeting documents and W.H. logs?
Why make a spectacle of it if you don’t need to? Why risk questions?
LOL…! I’m still gonna send a copy to SMU when Shrub’s shrine is built…! ;-)
We don’t have any insurance. And we have nothing for a retirement. Social security is a joke. we will always be almost of the age next time they bump the age. I work with my hands. In the next few coming years that will not be an option. When my time is up my time is up. I came to peace with this 30 years ago. I knew then what i see now.
Oh, dood, I didn’t see you were modded until I got done talking my shit.
These things happen.
Were you going all Canuck or something??? peace and laughter
Well folks .. 6 AM and my special needs guys comes early .. all they need is food and security and love .. I guess that’s really all any of us need .. they are the lucky ones .. they really don’t expect more than that .. *heads off to clean his guns, with his back to the door and a broken heart, but his finger close to the trigger* .. :-)
Yup .. I threatened to bring hockey to the South .. take care now .. and keep up the good work .. you are helping more than you know .. /s
ALL CANUCK! Well… all Penguins and Islanders.
We surprise ourselves sometimes, up this late.
Yeah, I hear you. I’ve always worked with my hands, it’s what I do. Now I’ in a weird situation were I have to be careful of how I abuse my hands/neck. Abuse them and lose them, there’s no such thing as repairing nerve damage.
Aloha, homeroid…! At least I’ve got my twenty years of service to Uncle Sam to rely on…! It’s absolute bs how far we’ve fallen…! 8-(
Sleep tight, tearloch…!
Yeah, so why the /s? fucking Canucks.
She said laughing……….
Give me five healthy teens and i could—I know im dreamin.
Well, I’ve sent the server I’ve upgraded off for a reboot. If it comes back, it worked.
**warmest hugs and away .. perhaps to sleep** .. peace comes from within /s
Careful now… I was born a f*cking Canuck…! ;-)
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu…! Mahalo for spending some time here tonite…! Aloha Oe…! *g*
It’s not Valentine’s Day any more! Time for another holiday!
Just flew one of our friends over to spend his last months with family in your neck of the woods. I should have a good address in some days and if you can you must visit one of the best liars that ever walked the face of this earth. I will keep you informed.
My fraternal side was solid Canuck since 1673. I am the Garlic Eaters child.
p.s. Thank you so much, CTuttle, for being an excellent host. I don’t express my gratitude enough.
peace and laughter
To my wife of 35 soon to be 36 years you still take my breath away just as you did the first time I saw you. And Unchained Melody can still bring tears to our eyes.
Happy Valentines Day!
