If there’s still anyone out there that needs more proof that “Teabagger” is just another name for “Bush/Cheney Republican” — here you go.
Only 26 Republicans voted against the bill, and there are 52 members of the Republican Tea Party Caucus, whose chairperson, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) voted for reauthorization along with most of the rest of her caucus. As Slate‘s Dave Weigel points out, only eight of the 26 were Republican freshmen elected last November.
So by my count, 44 out of 52 Teabaggers (84%) in the House — including caucus founder Michele Bachmann — voted for big intrusive gubmint and against individual liberty.
You don’t say.
Where can I get the flag that says, “Please Tread On Me”?

About Firedoglake
Patriot Act is the kind of gubmint TPers luv.
On edit: I wonder if the voters who actually voted for TPers even know what the Patriot Act is.
I googled. Nobody sells them :(
It’s OK If Your Tea Party to vote for bigger, more instrusive government that’ll
cost*waste* lots of YOUR and MY taxdollars… especially if it means intruding on personal rights and civil liberties.Where does one go now to shriek: I want MY country back??
It’s about Patriotism, ain’t it? You know, like Guns and Jesus…
Online sites that sell flags prolly make one for ya for a small extra fee. Got a 20-star U.S. flag for my house (the U.S. flag when the house was built in 1817) from one of them. Cost $70 iirc.
In all seriousness: highly unlikely. Or IF they’ve heard of the Act’s *name,* they probably don’t bother to do any more homework to actually learn what its intentions are. If it’s rightwing, and Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin say “it’s good,” that’s all they care about.
That would be my guess as to what they think it is.
What about the 67(?) Democrats who voted with the Teabaggers?
After all the power-grabbing by the last two presidents, I’m almost ready to become at least a part-time Libertarian.

Glenn Greenwald, today.
The Obama Administration, the Blue Team, Blue Texan, wants a longer extension of the emergency powers than the G.O.P.
You can’t credibly jeer at the other side for supporting the same thing your side is pushing.
Try this.
Just more evidence that they really are just a bunch of clueless, classless buffoons, stumbling around in the dark.
This is a bit of bad math, BT. There are three different measurements in that graf. One, the number of Republicans against the bill; two, the members of the Tea Party Caucus; three, 8 of the 26 no votes being Republican freshman.
Just because 8 of the 26 no votes were freshmen doesn’t mean they’ll all in the Tea Party caucus. The graf only says that “most” of the Tea Party Caucus voted for the bill, not 8 of 52. We’d have to go in and check that. I’ll do that for you in a sec.
OMG, we must need James Otto to tell us about Soldiers and Jesus!
Try a live link, sheesh.
And hello!
“God only knows where we’d be without Soldiers and Jesus!”
From the new album Shake What God Gave Ya.
How do you know he wasn’t suggesting a “Server Not Found!” flag? ;)
FDL fundraiser idea?
I’m still waiting for a Professional Left card to buy. Or a new FDL Membership card.
BTW, did we ever find out what the winning logo was?
I do not know.
On a lighter and happier note:
Gabrielle Giffords Speaking ‘More And More’
I want one that fits in with my IWW membership card. Lots of the colour red.
Hooray!
OK, it did actually come out to 8 members of the Tea Party Caucus voting against the Patriot act. And they are:
Bartlett, Bishop (UT), Broun, Graves, Marchant, McClintock, Rehberg, Roe
If they’re smart they’re redesigning those bland ass prototypes.
Flag
This one should work Kris
C’mon, BT, don’t you know that the only freedom the Tea Partiers and their corporate sponsors care about is “economic freedom,” best expressed by opposition to “job killing” regulations and, of course, the scourge of taxes?
Back to work.
Namaste
Wait the Tea Baggers just voted for the government to spy and detain Americans without trail indefinitely? They know we can and will use this vote against them next election right? They are aware we have video recordings of them voting for this?
Sorry man. Here is your damn live link.
You’re my hero.
None of it matters. They could vote for anything they want, as long as it’s not Obamacare or gay marriage, and they’ll get re-elected. You see the base that they’re pandering to, right?
Thanks spork. You said it better than I would have.
Why doesn’t anyone ever feel the need to pander to us?
It’s lonesome out here.
Becase the vast majority of us don’t own guns and do ask intelligent questions. We can’t be pandered to.
Actually, we can. Obama did it in ’08.
Pat downs from Hell
here’s your flag BT :D
Heh.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2011/02/jane-harman-says-patriot-act-e.html
“In a statement Tuesday night, Harman claimed that a measure on extending key provisions of the Patriot Act “passed the House by a vote of 277-148.”
“The problem: the measure still didn’t pass the House. It fell short of the two-thirds needed under fast-track rules.”
It did not pass even in spite of overwhelming support from the T’baggers. One might think the measure did pass reading this post?
Uh-huh. So tell me: how many House Democrats voted against the Patriot Act yesterday?
Of those, I’m most surprised at Broun.
David Dayen has another fresher cross-post ready: Egypt Protests Swell, Mideast Allies Tell White House to Back Off Mubarak
It’s nice to see Jane Harman get p3wnd every once in a while.
I bet if you did sell one, you’d get some Tea Party buyers…literacy not being a strong suit.
How many Democratic Presidents support the re-authorization in the first place?
It matters not how a couple fleas on the Donkey hop, it is what the head of the Donkey itself wants and does.
GG again:
By eliding this obvious truth, and attempting to jeer at uncouth Tea-Partiers as if your own Leader to whom you are still unswervingly loyal had no role in the drama, (D) Party apologists confirm the snark of Karl Rove from the Bush era, when he dismissed Democratic criticisms of Bush on civil liberties and whatever else as “mere partisan posturing.”
Was he right, Blue Texan?
Their signs should read “Don’t bother us with issues, just give us a tribe to hate.” But it would be misspelled.
Uh, he’s making a different point.
My point is that the Teabaggers love to prance around and talk about “freedom” and “small government” and how much they love the Constitution and how awesome liberty is. That’s the root of all their objections to everything from Social Security to Medicare to the FDA. Indeed, that’s how they define themselves.
And yet they’re willing to abandon that at a drop of a hat when the Bush/Cheney Constitution Shredding Act comes up. In other words, they’re nothing new — they’re Bush/Cheney Republicans.
Credit where credit is due. My new ‘bagger voted against it.
But Idaho’s pretty weighted to the Ron Paul faction … so that was a pretty safe bet for Labrador. No question Minnick would have voted for it in a heartbeat. So, honestly thus far I like my ‘bagger better than I liked my Blue Dog. If he actually aligns with Paul completely and stakes out a reasonable anti-war stance (which *is* actually possible), that would be amazing. Another interesting wrinkle about Labrador is he used to be an immigration attorney – so there is an off-chance that he’ll bring something atypically non-teabaggerish to the table on that front too (although, not holding my breath).
Strange days.
Fixed:
If there’s still anyone out there that needs more proof that “
Teabagger” Democrat is just another name for “Bush/Cheney Republican…”122 IIRC.
