Lunar New Year preparations in Singapore. (photo: Nestor's Blurrylife via Flickr)
Happy Lunar New Year! The year of the rabbit begins today with the new moon.
I’ve cooked noodles for dinner tonight; they are a traditional new year favorite, symbolizing long life. And I’ve avoided sweeping the house today, caught myself just as I was about to start vacuuming. Sweeping on the first day of the year sweeps away one’s luck, according to Chinese superstition.
Asian countries have been celebrating for roughly 24 hours already, with many deafening displays of fireworks and firecrackers. In northeastern China’s Liaoning province, fireworks set off a blaze which burned down a five-star hotel — do check out the photos which I can’t share here. It’s amazing to see such a big structure in flames.
The year of the rabbit is supposed to be a year of rest and recuperation after this last year — a tense year of the tiger. Given the unrest across the middle east and northern Africa, it looks like the year of the tiger is going to linger longer in some places than others. Astrologer Susan Leveritt suggests that the year be used to prepare as “Dragon Year 2012 will be very powerful, shamanic, a wild, exhausting time.” Thanks for the warning; if it’s worse than the year of the tiger, it’s going to be a doozy.
Did you forget to plan ahead to celebrate the lunar new year? No worries; Asians celebrate over the next two weeks, culminating in the Lantern Festival on the night of the full moon. And celebrate they do; many Chinese travel home for the holiday, just as Americans do at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Transacting business in Asia at this time of the year should be avoided, just as most of us would not recommend doing business in the U.S. between Christmas and New Year’s. Consider this your two-week warning for your next big celebration opportunity apart from Valentine’s Day — and the last big one before Mardi Gras on March 8.
So what sign were you born under in Asian astrology? No ages or years, please, just signs. You can check for yours here.
And don’t forget for the Vietnamese it’s Tết when Vietnamese wish each other a Happy Year of the Cat, not rabbit.

About Firedoglake
hey rayne — i’m a horse
I’m a rat!
I am a yang water dragon. Next year is as well. Hopefully that means it will be very good for me.
I am Teh Monkeh!
I’m a metal rat!
“Metal Rats – Years 1900 and 1960
Metal Rats are strong-willed individuals who are determined to get what they want, regardless of the cost. Intensively emotional, their behavior can border on extreme. Possessive feelings, envy and rage can cause problems. Relationships can be problematic as Metal Rats are obstinate. ”
that doesn’t really sound like me though…
You are s0 133t.
Sigh. I’m a rat, too. Rather be a cat! Chinese astrology doesn’t have a cat year, though, does it?
I didn’t realize Vietnamese animals were different.
It is glorious to be rich.
I’m a Fire Horse, Rayne, and we’re entering the year of the Iron Rabbit…! ;-)
rest….rest is good
Hola, firepups.
I think this is the year of the Firedog.
Even better…I am Teh Yang Earth Monkeh!
THE WOOD RAT 1924 AND 1984
Despite having a remarkable facade of self-confidence, deep down, Wood Rats are the least sure of themselves compared to other Rats. However, they wouldn’t dream of showing this side of themselves to anyone. Only close companions of a Wood Rat would ever suspect that he or she had such self-doubt. In fact Wood Rats are often worried about downfall, despite their ability to find success. Well-liked, proficient, and good leaders at work, Wood Rats seem to function best when they are surrounded by family and friends. Cordial and delicate, they are usually well loved by family, friends and peers.
Why are noddles traditional?
Yang Fire-Monkey
Whoo-Hoo! Firedog Monkey. “g”
A true knuckle-dragger, eh…? ;-)
specifically, i’m a yang wood horse
Efa Totkaki.
They symbolize long life.
Me too. So WTF duz that mean?
See, that sounds more like my personality. Too bad I wasn’t born in ’24 or ’84…
Teh google yields this –
On Edit: That was in reply to eCAHN @ 14
Why?
It’s spot on for me, although it makes me sound a little weaker than I am. Just a little, though.
We had a low of 3 F last night. I had frozen water pipes (cold water) in the kitchen and back bathroom (both lines frozen). Fortunately, no broken pipes.
No classes at the U since Tuesday. El Paso Electric has broken generators in El Paso (frozen pumps, apparently) and has asked all large users to curtail usage…
So I ask again, why?
Ingles, por favor?
Because they are long. Long noodles are a symbol for long life.
From what I could gather, the physical length of the noodle translates metaphorically to long life or longevity of luck.
Uh-Oh, the Monkey is the entertainer.
So let me, entertain you. :-D
Because they are long? You have already exhausted my knowledge of the subject. I am still working on that whole omniscient thing (but don’t tell my students, I still have them fooled).
Oi! AJEnglish has a DFH on!
cause you MUST use your noodle
I think that’s kinda like copper pennies (carrots) and black eyed peas among southerners and their descendents. Granny CounterTenor insisted that everyone have a helping of BEPs at New Year’s. Ordinarily I get along with most legumes, but BEPs … blerrrggh.
That seems pretty silly, esp since when you eat noodlz, you often cut them into shorter lengths.
Not to mention that the noodlz I buy aren’t particularly long to begin with.
Of course, so does everything else in Chinese symbology…
oh my…i always break my noodles,darn fool……oy
In America, this is not the year of the cat.
It is not the year of the rabbit.
This is the Year of The Trojan Horse.
Or the Trojan Condom, if you prefer.
Go Koch Brothers Go! Burn Baby Burn!
What about burning 5 star hotels?
Metaphor often sucks.
Fire Dogs (or more properly “Fire Dog People”). “Efa” is dog, “Totka” is fire, and “-aki” is a suffix meaning “people” (used in ethnonyms, clan names, and the like).
hint…get longer noodelz
I just hope it’s the year of the job.
I better not do a Lion Dance. I’m from the Detroit area.
The good news is Obama is going to have to start producing results if he wants to get reelected next year. There MUST be a jobs bill.
That depends on where you learned to eat noodles. Fork, spoon and twirl…
Yu got that right.
I once asked, in a high class Chinese restaurant in Manhattan, what a symbol on chopsticks wrapper meant. Of course, it meant long life.
LOL! Me too!
Unca Bennie doesn’t see it that way. He has looked into his golden orb and deciphered it will be 5 or 6 years.
Personally, I love them. Have hoppin john (blackeyed peas and greens) every New Years.
me and my critterz are sending the good karma your way
In what language again…? ;-)
It is very silly, indeed. But I won’t tell my wife what I think about noodles = long life.
If she keeps eating them thus,
She will surely shorten her life.
And you shorten your life in the process.
Maybe that’s just what they tell us…
It symbolizes recalcitrant insurance companies.
So Chelsea & Mark:
Fighting over when to start family.
He’s spending winter separate from him.
That’s about all the gossip you cahn get from me.
Whew – I’m back – watching fascinated as weather people predict actual — ta da! — SNOW!!! in San Antonio!
Actual accumulation expected, maybe a whole inch! Maybe 2-3 inches east of I-35. (why do highways divide snow depth? North and South of I-40 was a real dividing line in western Oklahoma…I never quite got that. But I could see it…)
If it really happens, it will be the first time since January 1985. It’s 25 degrees right now, very very cold for us.
I’ve learned to prepare them in a way that’s reasonably palatable. I’m not sure how my grandmother fixed them, but I sure don’t want the recipe even if it survived.
Indeed. Well played, sir.
Muskogee, spoken by about 10-20,000 Muskogee (Creeks) and Seminoles, mostly in Oklahoma these days.
Stingy Golden Sacs! Harrumph!
Hey Tejana. We’re supposed to be above freezing tomorrow afternoon… talk about weird weather.
I subsequently asked on another occasion what another Chinese symbol meant and was told long life. lol.
Huh? Chelsea and Mark who? wha?
like this one
‘United front’ announces stadium naming-rights deal
Mayor Villaraigosa, sports legends and other city and business leaders join AEG chief Tim Leiweke at event trumpeting $700-million deal with Farmers and making it sound as if the NFL is for sure coming back.
February 01, 2011|By Lance Pugmire…Farmers Ins…30 year naming deal…700 Million$
and they wont pay my 25,000 wter damage
Chelsea and Mark KochSachs.
Don’t say weather. Say Climate. “g”
Besides, the Mayan calendar tells us we are all going to die next year from the Sun’s darts falling to earth.
In other words, “I don’t read ideograms, so I’ll just make stuff up.”
lol. Typo of course, he’s spending winter separate from her. If u hadn’t caught me, I wouldn’t have corrected it. *g*
Oh GOd. Rose has a Friedman minute on and H. Kissinger. They lied on the preview.
My mutual insurance company is pulling that sh*t??? Goddammit. I’m sorry, Sadly.
Unfortunately, they’ll be falling to earth after finals week.
im sleepy …sweet tweets yall
g’nite sadly
Sumptin like that. Talk about making ur customers feel like idjits.
Maybe the inspiration for the new FDL member logo … Flambé (do we want a blue flame?).
G’night, sadly.
:-( We need Margaret to tell us how to get to the hollow earth. “G”
Hmm – I was SURE I was a Solid Gold Dancer, but I don’t see it on the wiki list. Surely, there must be a mistake :-)
The Maya have actually issued several announcements that that is NOT what their traditions say. The actual tradition says that the world wll come to an end at the end of a B’ak’tun (a calendar cycle of about 394 years) which next year will be. It does not specify which one and the living Maya say the signs are this isn’t it.
If we did that, we could make Woody Herman’s First Herd our mascot band, and Blue Flame our theme song.
So you’re in El Paso? Don’ know where I thought you were, but it wasn’t El Paso.
We’ve had a couple schools without heat because of broken pipes.
Myself, I’ve been going around tucking cardboard box lids into drafty spaces around doors and windows. Our houses (especially old ones) were not built for this kind of weather.
I have on long socks, boots (no puffy down booties!), a thermal t-shirt (found it last night, put away), turtleneck, and heavy pullover. All cotton, though, no wool. Most of the day I’ve been wearing a scarf wound around my neck, too.
Good excuse to make Mexican Hot Chocolate, though!
Nighters.
Ah, c’mon, what would the Maya know about their traditions? Buncha killjoys, that’s all.
Republicans in control of the House won’t pass any jobs bill and even if they did, the Senate Dems would cave. We both know it.
Good. I do wish they would make up their minds and let us know which it really is.
Loose Crotches (a/k/a Las Cruces), actually. I corrupt young minds at
Semi-solid State U, er, New Mexico State. We get our power courtesy of the thieves at EPE…I’ve got no response to that except a sad face :(
Wasn’t the Maya that created the fuss, it was a bunch of flaky New Agers who don’t know WTF they are talking about. Given all the commotion and folks booking trips to the Mayan ruins, they thought they ought to say something to keep all the crazy white people out of their hair.
They’re smarter than the school of fundies who insist on assigning dates to the Rapture/Second Coming/Apocalypse. Notice how you never hear from the clowns after the date passes? Consider that on April 24 this year.
Same thing here. And recent birthday.
Okay, Charlie pre-empted his editors interview due to the Eygpt protests and has the Experts on to discuss.
Kissinger
Friedman
Can I throw stuff at the evil one?
Yep. They had too many people in their hair at once.
Which evil one?
No, I know…Kissinger is far and away the most evil one present.
Mine was yesterday.
i keep a basket of rolled socks handy — saves me from having to replace the teevee machine
Is that one of the privatized ones?
Yesterday our local (owned by the city) power co. spokesman said the rolling brownouts were caused by several companies having taken facilities offline to do maintenance…because we don’t usually have winter cold.
But when we do, this is exactly the time of year when it happens. What idiots thought it would be a good idea to deliberately shut down a bunch of power production plants, thus requiring us, with no problems of our own, to put as many as 70000 people out of power on the coldest day of the year?
That could be very kewl. I would go with a more up-tempo, sprightly arrangement. What do you think?
.
Love that. Guess next year is not the year for sane people to visit the ruins. Something I definitely want to do before I die.
Right now they are talking to BBC correspondent Lyse Doucet in Cairo.
All options on the table, waiting to see how it fans out she says.
Happy belated birthday!
EPE has been investor-owned forever. LC looked seriously at doing a municipal electric (they already do gas), and EPE spent a bundle to kill it. All those expenses went into the next rate adjustment…
Goddam thieves.
How do you choose one out of that bunch?
I think maybe Four Brothers if you want an up-tempo…
I have spent my adult life working with Native Americans and you would be amazed at the amount of time and energy they expend to keep crazy white people out of their hair (not to mention how many crazy white people there are out there).
Friedman on now. Using the term AE, he has coined it as “After Egypt”
Yadda, yadda, looking from afar, it may take 6 to 9 months, all up in the air right now, yadda-yadda. He says.
I think you mean pans out…
Mado, cepan! (Thank you, young man).
Tis a tragedy how the Creeks and Seminoles ended up in Oklahoma…! 8-(
Yeah, there aren’t too many Neihardt’s around.
By the way, when do you suppose the New Agers are going to (re?)discover Black Elk Speaks?
Nope. That is what she said!
And the Cherokee!
6-9 months, again. Eventually even Friedman will say “Friedman units.” Or maybe “me units,” depending on what kind of self-referentiality he favors.
Oh I’m sure Obama will introduce a really kick ass jobs bill but after months of being called a socialist and caving on even more tax cuts for the rich, he’ll throw up his hands and say “oh well, I tried” and that will be that. His numbers will tick up among the veal pen and Republicans will have something to run on. Rich Americans are happy. Corporate America is happy. Republicrats are happy and partisans are happy. It’s a win-win, except for the unemployed and who cares about them? It’s not like they pay taxes or anything.
And, let’s face it, pretty much everyone else.
Oklahoma is not my idea of Paradise on earth.
Just in my time in rural Oklahoma, where the population I served included a large number of Cheyenne-Arapaho, I got some glimpses of the world from their point of view. That was one of the good things of my exile there. (*g*)
Not to mention the Chiricauha Apache.
Salutations! Mine was Sunday.
Funny, isn’t that? Republicans never want to pay taxes, but they hold anyone who doesn’t owe them in contempt. That’s the kind of existential loathing that makes Cthulhu grin.
Happy belated birthday to prostragedragon and DrDick!
Hmmmm. Isn’t that more intellectual existential sloth?
They never lost it. The book itself is rather interesting in that it totally misrepresents Black Elk’s life after the Ghost Dance. He became a Catholic catechist and was one of the most prominent men in the Lakota Catholic church and a successful rancher. This is not to say that he completely abandoned his older beliefs. He was just much more complicated than Neihardt (who really was a bit of a crazy, or at least hopelessly romantic, white man) depicted him.
Why does he think he knows so much about ME and their plight? He is just a hand jostling jerk. NUMBNUTS!
fun! thanks. I’m a monkey
I thought it would be really great to be in Singapore for this celebration. Up there with being in Boston Harbor for the July 4th except the eats are even better.
hippo belated birdies prostratedragon… and mini s’mores
Stinginess. Miserliness.
Eastern Oklahoma, where those tribes are, is not bad and it was not always as crazy as it is now.
Wow– lots of birthday folks. Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to you!
Congrats! We have almost made it to 60 despite our best efforts.
The kind who don’t know that it’s a good idea to peek at that loss function sometimes.
Hippy Happy belated birthday to prostragedragon and DrDick. Sorry, I was watching numbnuts on the tube and lost all contact with reality.
That’s what my family’s tradition was too. Not bad with a bit of onion, ham and salt.
I was just having trouble earlier today wrapping my mind around that.
(And yes, I tried hard, too. Something about our dragon cohort…;>)
Happy birthday!~
I live in China and it’s definitely a lot more fun here now than it is in the US. All you have right now is Ground Hog Day and the Super Bowl. No fireworks there. We will be raising hell for the next two weeks.
I lived in SE Asia for my childhood.
TET in Laos or Vietnam meant people walking, bicycling, and driving around, and spraying people with water any way they could.
Most popular was a bamboo tube, hollowed out.
The one end was opened up for a plunger thang to be run thru.
The end of the tube was wide open.
The plunger tool was a bamboo rod with towels or something on it’s end.
It would be drawn out of the tube to fill the tube with water, as one hand closed the end of the tube at the other end, to enable the tube to be filled.
Then the plunger was slightly forced thru the butt end of the tube, and when that plunger pushed that water thru a SMALLER hole in the other end, there was great pressure!
N water flew great feets!
I also remember the night when the little boats were made and candles inserted, and they went down the Mekon.
I forget if it was also TET . . . I think it was two different holidays?
Sigh, a part of my early youth, forgotten . . . but some parts clear as the light of say from 20/20 vision.
Lovely diary Rayne, thanks! Brought back lots of memories, circa early 50′s to early 60′s . . . over there.
I read BES in a History of the American Frontier class. The prof was really interesting, a Mandan from your neck of the woods. We also read some Vine deLoria (We Talk, You Listen, and Custer Died For Your Sins).
I had a really violent reaction to deLoria. I reread both books about ten years ago and finally understood what he was talking about.
At 19, I voted by my friends as least likely to see 30. Must be something in that yang dragon water.
Suzanne, mzchief, PeasantParty, one and all, thank you kindly, and Happy New Year!
Only two weeks? Can’t you get a bit more time out of it?
Aloha, emsique…! Welcome to the Lake…! I’m surprised China doesn’t censor us…! ;-)
Well, I have to be up early in the AM, so I’ll wish everyone a happy bunny year and wander off. Peace out, y’all!
You are welcome.
I remember one year that the different lunar calendars were such that New Years went on for 3 months!
Not at all funny. THEY shouldn’t have to pay taxes but heaven forbid their services get cut off. SOMEBODY has to pay taxes, just not them. They are more American see and should therefore be exempt.
Night.
Good night, EDP.
hey emsique — welcome to fdl
g’nite edp
Happy New Year to you as well! I’m going to get off now because H. Kissinger is up next and Friedman already has my blood boiling.
Nite All.
MY Fav Cat.

g’nite peasantparty
G’niter EvilDrPuma … and PeasantParty.

Pleasant dreams, PP and EDP…!
Night!
I’d like to see that
too bad it’s a paysite
Thanks. It’s been a fave of mine for a while.
once ya delurk, its dayam hard to go back to being silent again
emsique, lotus seed buns are probably pretty delicious and easy to get in your part of the Big Blue Marble.
The cat is agitating for me to go to bed, so I guess I should toddle off. Take care all.
g’nite dr (pause) dick
Good night, Dr. D.
They don’t. They block Youtube, Facebook and some blog sites, including the site I use for my blog. I subscribe to an excellent proxy service that gets around all that.
Hello All!
Beautiful sunny day here, but cold. Jon Stewart and Colbert pretty funny tonight!
G’nite DrDick and kitteh.
You can get everything except fortune cookies and that pink stuff you dip your fried shrimp into. That’s all American/Chinese food.
Bet the Dim Sum is teh awesome (unless it’s getting Americanized).
Where I live nothing is Americanized.
Hi, CE! Are you snowbound?
I forgot all about the Daily Show – was focussed on our weather report (see above) – here in S. Texas we may actually get an inch (!!!) of snow! The first since 1985! Schools are pre-emptively cancelling or planning to start late.
It would be hilarious if I hadn’t been here for the last snow, and therefore have knowledge of how clueless natives are about how to drive in snow and ice. Not so funny.
I hear China is a pretty big town.
Chinese New Year has already shaken progressives
Fox News Team Severely Beaten, Hospitalized In Cairo
Someone should have told Mubarak thugs, that Fox News is probably Pro Mubarak, after this they will probably go anti MUBARAK
“FOX News Channel’s veteran foreign correspondent Greg Palkot and his camerman Olaf Wiig have suffered severe injuries in Cairo while covering the unrest in the Egypt capital. Palkot was badly beaten and Wiig has a possible broken jaw after being attacked by pro-Hosni Mubarak supporters yesterday.”
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102×4720768
I know the Fox Phoney News people lie a lot, but they don’t deserve this! Now I feel bad for the Fox News people beaten by Mubarak Thugs
this Egyptian Revolution takes a lot of strange turns
me feeling bad for FOX NEWS PEOPLE, wow who saw this coming, it must be a new year.
MEMO to MUBARAK, Fox News likes you
Can you say where, or would it be best not to?
Of course, if it isn’t Bejing or Shanghai or Guangdong, I suppose we might not recognize the name, anyway.
Hey tejan!
We have over a foot of snow on the ground, but it will be warm tomorrow. January was brutal! But nothing stops us — we just drive over it all and work on. This week many schools were closed, but not ours, nor our museum or university. Heh.
Irony lives!
Oh I very much doubt it. The reporters might be but Uncle Rupert won;t let that bleed into the narrative.
7:26 am in Cairo.
Nada?
What a blessing to get thru this night for them without dying.
Wow.
I think I’m going to go slide between the sheets.
Stay warm, folks.
g’nite bct
G’nite BargainCountertenor.
We watched a lot of upper dial international broadcast news last night — AJ, EuroNews, BBC, German news and others. It was incredible. And scary. C-Span on now, with Mohamed Yeha, BBC.
Night BCT
It’s Zhanjiang, in Guangdong province. It’s a “small” city of only 7 million people, about halfway between Hong Kong and Viet Nam. Subtropical and on the South China Sea. There are 3 McDonald’s, 1 Pizza Hut, 3 or 4 KFC’s, and 2 Wal Marts. That is the totality of America here. There might be a couple of hundred foreigners living in this city.
Suz on duty . . . you on tense toes from Egyptian Jasmine as we all are?
It’s riveting, given Dayen’s graphic posted earlier . . .
i yam but its not as bad as last night was… kept me quite busy
Sounds like you’re not missing anything. You have a fun blog. Dig the Spider Bun.
Isn’t Friday prayers, about 5 hours from know, the real worry/showdown time? (I mean right after they conclude.)
Wasn’t that the pattern of last Friday iirc?
Yes.
7 million. China is amazing – more huge cities I’ve never heard of than I could once have imagined.
Wait – that wouldn’t be the modern (pinyin? or is that the old way) transliteration that was once Chungking? If it is, at least I’ll have heard of it.
Must be fascinating to live there.
i was gone last week from wed until monday night :(
Uh, yeah . . . Modding is dif from us commenting you betcha, is that what ya meant . . . not what I meant . . . the speed, immediacy, international media (AJ) and more sure speed up the pace of ‘knowing’ . . . about international affairs as they break . . .for me it’s breathtaking . . .
This is history (as Dayen’s Graphic Shows).
I’m completely enthralled, as a news junkie . . . .
Just wondering how this all impacts you, aside from the MOD duties . . .
Just bonding . . . ;-)
Yep. I’ve believed all week that shit will truly hit the fan then.
Hey Suzanne and Larue!
Wow, things are happening! Madeline Albright on Rachel was interesting.
i feel like i walked into a movie in the middle of it and am trying to catch up on the plot. wasn’t until tuesday that i started to try to play catchup
Chongqing
Yo buddy . . . .
Last I made comment and others did too . . .
If they haven’t struck now, at 7:30 am in Cairo, then then the FUckin Thugs ain’t gonna strike.
Despite the elimination of journo eyes, journo cams and journo voices, I think we and THEM made it thru the night.
Now it’s, again, 7:30am there . . . n so far no reports of slaughter.
As you always allude to, in yer best way, I’ll say, what’s next?
Indeed, what is next, if this horror is not to be . . . .
The plan is to march on the presidential palace after prayers. That’s all I am aware of.
Yep, that’s it. Yet another transliteration. Lovely, I feel less ignorant now.
Well, folks, I’m going to venture out into the temporary Siberia of my backyard to see how the ferals are doing. Happy New Year, everyone!
We is there Margaret . . . it’s time, and sun’s up . .
What now? I’m not sure . . . . how long can this go on without any resolution?
g’nite tejan
G’nite tejanarusa.
Suz.
Funny but that’s how I’ve felt, and I’ve been deep into this for some 5 or more days now.
N I thought I knew stuff . . . . ;-)
Maybe not. AJE was talking earlier about this.
They said that occupying Midan al-Tahrir was probably more important (tactically and symbolically at this point, especially tactically) than exposing a long vulnerable flank, about 2km to the Palace.
So what will actually happen is still anybody’s guess.
Later TR
Dunno then, I haven’t been spending a lot of time with AJE today after the last couple of days of being glued to it.
Ma’am, yep.
We got another 12 hours of daylight to be vigilant about . . .
Thanks, Magaret . . . I remain, this is epic.
It’s right here.
All I said is what I knew the plan was but Kelly has corrected me on that so I’m clueless. I don’t know what’s next.
Me too.
I have a (mostly) apolitical blog with some of my experiences here. It’s a pretty amazing journey my life has taken.
Can you ‘splain some of that geography?
First, is that Cairo?
Second, is that Tahrir SQ?
N then what do ya mean?
Just don’t know whatcha mean . . .
YEr too sparse with yer words for me hoss!
N that KILLS me! ;-)
Man-o-man… A public discourse on Hawaii’s Gun Laws on PBS here… A NRA rep had the audacity to say that there’s no direct correlation between having the strictest Gun Laws and the nation’s lowest gun related deaths…! Huh…?
I don’t think anybody knows for 100%. I truly think this is a you-just-have-to-see-it-unfold thing.
I don’t know either, Maggie . . . if I may use the shorter spelling . .
Way far southeast China then?
M’eh, I’ve given up worrying about what people call me these days. It boots nothing because nobody pays any attention anyway.
Yes, Cairo.
Midan al-Tahrir is the proper way of the Arabic For “Tahrir Square.”
The Prez palace appears to be about 2 clicks away from Midan al-Tahrir, and there’s a bunch of arterial streets that run into the main drag that goes from the square to the Palace.
Lemme dig up a map.
Thanks!
NO, don’t bother, I get it . . . I been payin attention.
You answered my questions, thanks!
*g*
Oya all.
g’nite margaret
there be sex on fire upstairs
You outta here, grrrlfriend?
SO Pups, if Mubie and Salie haven’t slaughtered Tahrir Sq as of as of day break, what’s next?
I’m highly delighted there WAS not a slaughter . . . to this point.
That’s just not fair, linkin fiery sex with a linky title . .
Yer too good . . . *smiles*
Let’s see if this google map works for everybody

I’m a water snake… my father was a snake, too. I’m pretty sure my mother was a rooster.
