Kings of Leon — Sex On Fire, live, June 30, 2009, at the O2 Arena in London, England.
What’s on your mind?
My gawd – zed?
hey tejan — yup, ya snagged the zed :) how ya doing tonight?
Suze! Pups!
“Jesse Ventura sues TSA in pat-down smackdown” (RawStory.Com, Jan. 24, 2011)
hey ndfg — how’s your eye?
hey mzchief — how’s yor side of the coast range tonight?
Checking back (that’s quite a title to open the screen onto): sure enough, we now have freezing rain here in ol’ San Antonio.
Found out by falling down. Yup, that 1″ or so grade from carport to alley (took out trash) is solid ice, and I slid right down it. Got a wet knee now; my new jeans!
Did not find my elderly feral cat, who was scared by an overenthusiastic dog early this evening. I fear she won’t come back and could really freeze to death. She’s too old for this weather.
Young feral here – rigged up a bed for her too, which she’s been using, plus draped piece of fleece that blocks wind. She’ll be all right – very thick coat, as well. Put food in both their bowls for fuel.
Crossing fingers. I’d enjoy snow, but poor outdoor kittehs won’t. But won’t come in, either.
Oh, and one of my indoors shot out when I opened the door, made me go under the stairs to the upstairs apt to get him, little brat.
Hmm. The pipe that goes thru my hall closet is screeching. Should I worry? Have the bathroom faucet dripping…
Hiya Pups!
oh noz tejan — when are ya expecting it to warm up?
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Good. AJ English up and at ‘em just past daybreak from Qatar (9:12 AM Friday AST +11).
I get 12?
Bitter. Wow, watching Cairo. Hello all Pups!
you did larue — how’s sac tonight?
Larue at 12?
ND! *heartsgaloore*
In that good old fashioned friendly way from folks . .
LOL!
Dang this PC shit . . . . mol
“Those who hate most fervently must have once loved deeply; those who want to deny the world must have once embraced what they now set on fire.”__ Kurt Tucholsky, German satirical Essayist and Poet, 1890-1935)
i got up to 53.6 today but the skies were overcast all day and the weather dood is predicting maybe a chance of rain… i’m at the southern end so i may not even get that
how cold is bitter? are ya in the negatives?
Saturday. *g* Maybe late tomorrow.
We were at 51 hrs. of straight freezing temps at news time – record is 108 hrs. Weather guy says we won’t beat record.
I know that will sound ridiculous to northerners (CE, I bow to your winter skills), but after 25 years here, I know this town dunno how to cope. And houses and workplaces and schools aren’t built to cope with freezes.
On the bright side, while searching my closet for something else today, I found the missing controls to my electric blanket! (no, they were not packed away with the blanket, why do you ask?)
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
i’ve got it on cnn right now…. i heard their coverage has been outstanding tonight (per twitter)
You might want to open the faucet up a little more.
Tehan . . . our hearts out to ya . . . best of luck with all.
not too bad … the surgery lasted 35 minutes, and the doc had estimated 1-1/2 hrs. This is good because it means he found nothing to repair when he opened my eye (heh, whole new meaning to that phrase), no scar tissue, no detachment of retina, etc etc. So tomorrow i have day-after doc visit and we’ll find out more. It’ll take several weeks to know if it has truly healed or if retina is going to detach again. Since new doc was, over course of 3 previous surgeries, able to get rid of all the scar tissue left by the first doc, there shouldn’t be any stress or pull on the retina. We’ll see, in 3D vision we hope!
hey senator — how ya doing tonight?
21 degrees of dry air. oh, and its dark outside.
fingers and toes crossed and sending ya 3D wishes — gah, its been a hella year for that eye
Ahh. Everyone’s up here. I was downstairs map-nerding.
Here’s how the Cairo protests map out:
http://maps.google.com/maps?ftr=crisisresponse.kmlpanel:src=cairo_protests&cad=cairo_protests
Good. Trying to figure out what new legislation needs passing.
Hey, thanks – I did a few min. ago and the screeching has stopped – hope it isn’t just temporary. Opened the kitchen faucet, too.
Oops, there it goes again…intermittent. It would be a hell of a task to empty it out, but mayhap I should move the boxes (not all close tight) of fabric stash? Just to be safe? Packs of toilet paper rolls?
Hmm, screeching on pause again….
hey kelly — how’s denver tonight?
*waves at larue* hey, i’m plotting out the coming year’s garden. It’s under 2 feet of snow, but never to early to plan!
Eh, Sac is ok for the most part.
Nuttin new here I haven’t posted elsewhere . . .
Egypt now, is dif . . . n maybe we good folks won one there.
Bless them all.
You?
Oh, wow, girrlll, I ddin’t realize your eye issue had got so complicated. So sorry to hear it…hope all is well now, and that this was the final surgery.
Was it just today?
oh lardy, that would drive me nutz…. screech *silence* screech *silence* etc all night long
oh yikes! I always feel bad for the critters when it gets way colder than they’re used to.
*G*
That ain’t MY number . . .
Course, I don’t know WHAT my number is . . .
*G*
twas a day of recuperation… i don’t think i even stepped out onto the deck but i did sorta start cleaning the kitchen.

Outshone US media so US media jumped in by yesterday. Anderson Cooper was on the ground and got roughed up in the process.
I just spent the last hours talking with my sibs about curtailing my dad’s driving. He has dementia, can’t see or hear, and has always been troublesome when told what to do. But now he is a potential WMD. He had a wreck last week.
fuck.
Well, um, hoping it won’t be all night long…
ndfg…yeah, I have worked hard to get this elderly feral to trust me, and she did, was spending nights regularly in the cushioned pet bed I put by my door, but something has spooked her, and I suspect it’s the young one. I gotta find her a home so she’ll quit bothering my little old lady.
I worry about her every cold night, but so far she shows up every day.
At Southern Dragon’s suggestion, I’ve been putting Cosequin, for joints, in her food for several months, and it seems to be helping. She moves like a young kitteh when she wants to.
my theory is that nothing pisses off a reporter more than not being given the respect they think they are due because they are a reporter
so now they are pissed enough to report the truth instead of the spin
a minor one i hope… just a fender bender?
being a nit-picking virgo, it’s been a hella 1 yr, 5 months, and 6 days for my poor right eye. I’m ready to be done with it. Of course, if i hadn’t been pushed to see the new doc, i’d be blind in my right eye at this point, so i’m glad my retired-nurse aunt insisted i see my current surgeon, who has carefully and slowly repaired all the damage done.
NDFGlif ya didn’t hear, my honey just survived breast cancer.
We think she’s about 2-5% from recurrence . . .
*G*
Wishin them odds fo yer eyes too!
*G*
BLESS!
Sounds very good, ndfg. Pulling for you:)
dayam ndfg… i never knew you were one of them… ex #2, the fundy, is a virgo
He got out of his car to pick up the mail. The car was not engaged in park and it rolled into a parked truck. But my dad tried to get into the car as it was rolling. He can barely walk due to bad knees. He walks like Tim Conway used to when he played an old dude.
Little Katie Curic got jostled some today, too. She really looked very out-of-place in that crowd. She’s no Christane Amanpour….
Long haul youy did gal . . . drivin or ridin . . .
You covered a lot of miles ma’am . . .
Welcome home?
*G*
oh lardy… i’m so sorry hon
Shit, Ron is a triple Virgo. Scary!!!!! Specially for a Scorpio.

Oh, mary, that is tough. Even my dad, who never developed dementia, did drive past the point when he should’ve, though not a lot. He had macular degeneration, and couldn’t see well; had his first accident in 60 yrs of driving his last few years.
And FIL, ohmygawd. He was never a good driver, and as he has Alzheimers now, I’m sure that when he totaled his car about 10 yrs ago, he was developing it. He kept insisting to us that he “had the right of way!” Doubt it, but even so, y’know, when the other car is already in the intersection, you don’t go just ’cause you have the right of way.
Worst part was, daughter (knowing she’d get stuck with most of the driving him hither and yon) tried to get other sibs to chip in to buy him a new car! Everyone else took the opportunity to get him off the road for good, and that was how it turned out. He never drove again, I don’t think.
It’s never easy to take the keys away. But sometimes you have to, no matter how angry the old one gets.

He gives or gave, good dobro!
*G*
Go EW!
ginger!
Oh,my. mary – a blessing that was all it was. Good luck getting the keys away from him.
ndfg – wow, double. Blessings on your aunt the nurse! So glad you didn’t have the alternative outcome.
Is there a lawsuit against surgeon #1 in the offing?
larue – glad for your honey.
Gettin’ old(er) just sucks, doesn’t it?
I got no words but lost my two to alz and then to parkinsons.
Was hard . . . bless ya . . . *bows*
Oh man. Reminds me of my late dad.
hey margot — how ya doing tonight?
?
I love ginger . . . .
lol’]
I love Phred!
i saw the news re mrsLarue one night when i got home from work after all the pups had left for the night. So pleased to hear it’s in remission, hugs to you both! And hope it stays way far the hell away from her.
Careful now… Nothing wrong with Virgos, mary…! ;-) Best of luck, ndfg on your healing…! *g*

fred and ginger dood … dancing… she not only kept up with him, she did it all backwards while wearing high heels :)
My kittah is horse. What does that mean? He just came in and can’t hardly meow.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
yeah, sigh, everyone hates Virgos. It’s cuz we’re so dayam perfect *cough* everybody’s jealous. Right, CT?
Trouble is, as the stories tonight show, sometimes the matter refuses to go along with the mind…
Odd. Is he normally very vocal? Is he sneezing or coughing or anything? Don’t know of any condition offhand that make a kitteh hoarse all of a sudden.
Tej.
Bless ya.
N thanks.
She beat cancer lately.
I am SOOOO greatful.
NO one is luckier than I or my honey.
N we honor that, daily, for others who ain’t that lucky.

BIG HUGS!
*G*
He is the most talkative cat I have ever had. Maine Coon. This is a trait of theirs. Maybe he talked himself horse.
bailey cat sometimes comes in after being out all night and sounds hoarse.. it doesn’t last long — she drinks and eats and her voice seems better. i attributed it to howling at the moon or some cat version of it. reminds me of stephanie after her first concert…. she was quite froggy
Keep him warm with the electric blanket. Most likely the freezing cold exhausted his internal thermostat.
i’ve known a few triple virgos (i’m definitely not one!) and they are all dear, sweet, gentle, wonderful people. But i wouldn’t want to be one, because i bet they’re all darn hard on themselves.
and virgo/scorpio is a very good combination!
*terrorist fist bump*
Aloha, ya’ll…! Dare I say that it’s a ‘cool’ 69 here…? ;-)
Yeah, you know that “new” zodiac that was all over the “news” a few weeks ago, with a new sign, adjusting dates, etc? I knew it was crap bc it would make me a Virgo instead of a Libra, and that just ain’t possible. ;)
Not that I don’t pick a few nits, from time to time, and I can be kind of literal. But I’m usually good at seeing both sides, and am horribly indecisive.
It was sunny and bright here. But I hear from a childhood friend in Alaska that they had about 19 small earthquakes today.
LOL!
Lord. I iz a BIG Ginger Rogers fan!
N so is honey . . .
Did ya SAY so n I missed?
*G*
Except I live in Sacramento. It ain’t that cold here.
i think once the media was attacked, they fell back onto their training. at the pd, i was taught that in hostile situations, that is what one instinctively does and is why the training was so important
i’m a libra and there’s no fucking way they are make me a fucking virgo
What a busy 16-hour day. Loved it!!! Just home from work. 4 inches of new snow.
Are the lake waters warm tonight, because it’s cold outside.
Heh, Robert that’s an old NYC slang term . . .
Good though!
“Whaddayamean whatdataya mean?”
*G*
you called me fred — i was just returning the favor by calling ya ginger :)
hey et — how ya doing tonight?
My goodness, M’dear…! It ain’t that bad…! ;-)
they sure are ofg — how ya doing tonight? are ya on the road again?
rub it in! I can’t fly over to the Islands and camp in your back yard because of the dayam medical air bubble they put in my eye today. Heh, the doc said i shouldn’t even go to Duluth, MN. Although i never willingly go to Duluth Minnesota.
happy lucky 100 ndfg!!!
My silly cat who snuck out earlier and made me chase him all over the yard (well, I would walk toward him, and he would scoot off somehwere else; eventually he ran toward the door and I got him) is nagging me now to let him out again.
He thinks he likes cold weather. Slipped past me unseen a couple weeks ago and stayed out all night. It was in the 50′s, maybe upper 40′s.
I told him tonight he doesn’t know cold weather!
Oh, yeah, of course you are! I totally agree. Libras are perfect for mods, don’cha think?
Aquarius/Leo is a terribly volatile combination. Aquarians love easily, but live within our own minds, needing and giving very little attention to our soulmates. Leos require absolute attention, and eventually seek a divorce from the loony Aquarian they stupidly married.
My life story….
scales of justice and all that yanno
Home, snowed in with frozen pipes.
Gawd, not at this time of year, for sure!
(Of course, my dad had to go to Fargo ND once for business, in the wintertime. He didn’t complain much, but he let it be known it was not his favorite trip)
yikes! you guys got hammered according to the footage the weather dood showed tonight
Getting the stuff ready for the Russian Pops Concert I’m going to conduct with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra in May, plus teaching. Gotta add more people to the orchestra for some of the pieces, and finally got a narrator for Peter and the Wolf.
Oh, man! How much snow you got? Oh, yeah, OK got this Snowpocalypse first, didn’t it? Remember hearing the governor had said “don’t try to travel thru Okla.”
Pipes frozen, but not busted, at least? Whew. Afraid to ask what the temp is there…
Well if the “press” has knee pad training, woe unto them. Instead we need and want more Bill Moyers.
Russian Pops? Sounds fun. Oh, Peter and the Wolf, of course. What else?
Yes, we did. My trailers loaded and backed into a guys backyard to paint my payload. Not too much painting going on, me thinks.
peter and the wolf is what you are going to play for the concert?
oh, that story was total crap. Every five years or so, an astronomer discovers that you can count more than 12 constellations in the zodiacal belt, and god’s little fishes in trousers! alert the media! sigh. Astrologers are all shaking their heads over that one. You could devise astrological zodiacs of up to 16 or more signs. In fact, some astrologers have done so. The alternative one i like best is the Celtic tree 13-sign zodiac.
I’d trust an astronomer to give me the correct number of light years to Alpha Centauri. I wouldn’t trust what an astronomer says about my eye, and sure wouldn’t let one operate on my eye. And i wouldn’t trust them to know the first damn thing about astrology either.
i’m thinking its their original training back when they were still wanting to shine the light on the truth — their young idealism of journalism
it can work … if the right moon signs are involved. You have to find a Leo lady with an Aquarian Moon, and maybe even aquarius rising.
hey! if i wasn’t prohibited from driving for 24 hours, i’d buy a lottery ticket.
Not The Best Fred, But MY Fav Fred Song!@
*G*
Ma’am.
;-)
Speaking of Russian music (I’ve loved P & the W since kidhood), last Sunday I got last minute symphony tickets: pianist Lilya Zilberstein (Russian) played Prokoviev Piano Concerto, and then was Shostakovich 5th. Fan-flippin-tastic, all around. Our new conductor (Sebastian Lang-Lessing)and our orchestra were fabulous, as was the guest artist. The best I’ve ever heard them.
The Leo lady I married always made my Aquarious rise, but she didn’t like my mind escaping into the world of ideas so often.
Truth is, Leo are some of the most attractive women in the universe, age imperceptively, but won’t tolerate a man not totally attentive to her wants and needs.

I made the newspaper a couple of weeks ago.
Five pieces:
Dance of the Tumblers from The Snow Maiden by Rimsky-Korsakof
Notturno from 2nd String Quartet (arr. for strings) by Borodin
Peter & the Wolf by Prokofiev (narrated by Shannyn Moore)
2nd Waltz from the 2nd Jazz Suite by Shostakovich
1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky

NEFG, this has been a two month weirdness . . .
What IS that thang i believe is Syrius?
If it ain’t?
*G*
Oh, I love The Snow Maiden! Will you have cannon for the 1812? *g*
Which Prokofiev piano concerto? (he wrote 5 – the 3rd is by far the most popular). DSCH’s (Shostakovich’s) 5th is profound.
Indoors. No cannon, but a lot of chimes and bells.
I was afraid you were gonna ask that – don’t have the program handy, and I’m no expert…think it was the 3rd.
Man, you can’t just leave it like that!
No you didn’t!
Hate that one . l HATE it!

From “Census shows big gains for U.S. minorities” (Associate Press, 2/3/2011 1:42:40 PM ET)
Seems that there is an unfair advantage to states to get the data before the others. Should the data be held then released to all states at the same time?

Hey y’all, have you noticed the fucking right-wingers don’t even have a shred of a clue how to react to what’s goin’ on in Egypt?
Love ya gal like family . . .

Edward Teller: Okay, okay, I went and found the program – Concerto No. 3 in C Major, sure enough.
Doing ok, just noticing how the wingnuts don’t seem to have jack shit to say about what’s happening in Eqypt, other than Glenn Blech, and he’s just batshit insane.
It was a good thing. I was doing what they say couldn’t be done, sans Jerry Reed. Yell County Arkansas, coming into Danville from the south on highway 27. Oversized with my truck, a three axle jeep, (small trailer) a three axle trailer(big trailer) and a three axle booster. The state permitted me to go that way, but the county sheriff, the county supervisor and all their henchmen said I could not make the turns on the downhill side of Danville Mountain.
They said I would need a wrecker and a crane to set me around the corners. Last summer an oversized got hung up and they had to get a 400 ton crane and it took them a week to get him off the mountain at a cost of $800,000.00
i heard limpballs had been ragging on the nytimes reporters who were detained — calling them wimps etc. guess he didn’t hear about the fox reporters being beaten
Alright, later ‘gators. :)
There have to be far more than 5 million multi-racial Americans. That figure is the number of Americans who claimed to be multi-racial on their census. It’s a new category.
My name family has been here since the 1630s. My dad’s research after he became a Mason came up with New England Native American, Comanche, Creole, Jewish and – he thought – African American stock in my line. I was tempted to check the multi-racial box, but didn’t. Maybe I will in 2020.
It’s a gem. Glad you loved the concert.
yikes! that’s an expensive corner — i take it ya went through it with flying colors and made it look easy dood

I’d love to see that son of a bitch in Victory Square at 3 a.m. when the Mubarak thugs are flinging molotovs in. He’d be blubbering in fear. And his blubber would be shaking.
Folks now feel the 1940s are over and safe enough to identify as who they actually are apparently. If folks really look, they probably are pretty darned diverse.
Oh, it’s worse – once he heard about the Fox reporters, he did a 180.
G’nite all. Look sharp for me while I’m off.
he’s not brave enough. he will sit in his ivory tower and not even notice that it is collapsing around him… i think him and beck are headed in the same direction … beck’s ‘viewers’ are starting to realize it – limpball’s will too
sharp dressed even :)
The clips of Beck that Maddow and Stewart have been showing – I swear, if he weren’t on tv, somebody would be declaring he’d finally had a breakdown and hauling him off for involuntary commitment.
Really, if we had a relative talking about the “final insurrection,” and 100′s of 1000′s of Egyptian demonstrators for freedom are “not about Egypt,” and some of the even loonier stuff I’ve forgotten, we would be questioning their sanity.
More diverse and more tied together than we could possibly realize. Yet. If we can move beyond violence and pettiness, it might become evident.
I don’t even understand all of that, but I’m impressed anyway.
no kidding — and yet faux news thinks his shit don’t stink
To be honest, I called for supervisory help, extra eyes on the ground, but yes I made page two, above the fold of the Yell County Record in full process color, above the fold, going around horseshoe bend, unaided. Everyone else on that page was in ditches with tow hooks dragging them out. The company owner said he was putting that picture on next years calendar.
Kewl! Immortalized!
woohoo! dayam, that’s some good driving dood
Even Twitter and kittehs slowing down (kittehs were having a “late-night crazies” for awhile – rare now that they’re all of 6 years old), and I’ve turned on the electric blanket. (Ahhhhh, that’s gonna feel good).
Pipe has not screeched for awhile (whew).
gonna mosey off, wait till morning to see if it really snows.
Nite, everybody.

An interesting experience today..talking with an Egyptian friend of mine at the University, and expressing solidarity-he’s as nervous as a cat-when he tells me flatly: “You Americans-you don’t get it. If you’re with us, why aren’t you protesting YOUR government’s actions? You guys have been supporting Mubarak for 30 years, and now you’re on OUR side?”
I had no good answer.
hey rond — how’s the great swamp tonight?
We threw off the English. Some roads you have to walk down alone. Change is a bitch, just ask pocket change Obama.
Very nice, thank you. 68 degrees, cloudy but dry. expecting heavy fog, but it’s nice to be able to sit on my front porch in shorts and smoke a cigar. No snow anywhere, as far as I can see. Blizzards are something I see on TV.
steph texted me around noon that the wind and snow was sorta blizzardy looking. luckily the winds died down by the time she drove home from work. i’m not sure if she’s been in an actual blizzard or not… this is her second winter in co
Yeah, he knows that, and we’ve been friends long enough that he doesn’t really question my sincerity or motivations, but is just frustrated by all the people that have come out in the last couple days, “fair-weather revolutionaries” whose enthusiasm for street action is directly proportional to their distance from the action. He knows I’m on his side.
You know, I think I could live in a snowy place without a great deal of trouble, but I am starkly terrified at the notion of having to drive in it.
same here — i’m a newbie at living where it occasionally snows and i have been able to (knock on wood) avoid it so far.
i’m a total wuss when it comes to that — i have no experience so lack confidence.
stephanie has no trouble — but then she’s young and adapts easily
When in doubt, drive in 1st gear. That works for in-town driving, anyway.
It snowed for three days here in 1989, when I drove for a living, and doing a 540 on the ice and winding up in a ditch put the fear into me. Haven’t had a chance since then to confront the fear.
about time for me to turn back into a pumpkin again. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
g’nite all
Goodnight, Suzanne.
