But…but…isn’t Al Jazeera anti-American pro-jihadi propaganda?
White House officials have turned to Al Jazeera English among other television channels to monitor the mounting protests in Egypt. But most Americans lack the same ability to tune in to the broadcaster, which is based in Qatar, because cable and satellite companies in the United States have largely refused its requests to be carried.
With the network’s coverage of the crisis drawing praise, however, Al Jazeera executives said Monday that they planned to renew their lobbying to be carried on cable systems across the United States.
Another wingnut talking point, dead.

About Firedoglake
Not at all. Isn’t it natural that a Kenyan Harvard Muslim Socialist who takes away our freedom to live without health care and makes Jamie Dimon cry would watch Al Jazeera?
It’s almost 3 pm in Egypt now. Tahrir Square apparently has more than a million. They’ve made the decision to stay put and not march. Army is searching people for weapons. At citizen checkpoints, they are checking for ID to prevent Mubarek’s security forces from gaining access. It’s amazing to see the crowd. Watch here.
Sharif Kouddous tweets that not only are people picking up the garbage, they’re separating for recycling. I’m crying at the beauty of what’s happening.
Mornin’, BT, pups
The network and cable news moguls will scream bloody murder if cable systems start carrying Al Jazeera. No scantily clad females selling all the stuff we just can’t live without, doncha know.
One of the folks at Al Jazeera said the crowd was hoping just the shear numbers in the square would reach to the prez palace without a march.
I don’t know if Al Jazeera is really this good or if American media channels are just that lame. I believe it’s both with the balance tilting towards American media channels sucking.
The balance tilts about 95% towards American media sucking.
Thanks for that. A peaceful, recycling protest. I hope we are inspired.
It seems Jordan’s king is getting the message. Wish our president would.
LOL. Too bad for us.
I heard that.
They’re praying the mid-afternoon prayer right now.
One of the Al Jazeera people just said everyone’s out there – that young men drinking beer are standing right next to Muslim women in hijab.
What’s that about Jordan’s president?
He’s asking for a new government.
AMMAN, Feb 1 (Reuters) – Close U.S ally Jordan’s King Abdullah on Tuesday asked his former ex-military adviser Marouf Bakhit to form a new cabinet, an official said.
Notice all the banners? There have been smaller banners over the days but I see one that’s held by maybe 20 people and folks talking to AJ say there are huge banners on buildings.
Are we dumb because our media sucks, or does our media suck because we’re dumb? I think it’s both. We’re stuck in an infinite loop of fail.
It really is something to behold isn’t it? The video from the live stream at AJE is amazing. So many people peacefully out in the streets demanding their rights. It’s thrilling to see. Bless them all.
Do you have context for that? It’s not clear to me what that means.
I don’t. There was a ticker on CNN and I googled it.
On edit: I thought he was perhaps making a pre-emptive move, in light of what’s happening in Egypt. But, I could be completely wrong.
It opens my heart.
Sure does. It gives me hope for all of us : )
Sometime last night I heard someone on Al Jazeera say it was confirmed that Mubarek was in Sharm El Sheikh, which is at the tip of the Sinai Peninsula.
Jordan has seen some small demonstrations over the same issues. Abdullah is trying to prevent what’s happening in Egypt. Dynasties are becoming uncool in the ME.
Good morning all.
Yes. The real hope.
It’s the former. The elites use the media to deliberately dumb down the proles to make it easier to maintain power over them.
Yeah. That’s why I’m so glad we have options like BBC (which I can get on my teebee) and Al Jazeera live feeds.
Christians and Muslims working together. Wonderfully inspiring.
It will be interesting to see if that spills over into Saudi Arabia…
I’m happy to see that people are waking up to the value of Al Jazeera English. Their coverage of global events is by far the best- even better than BBC. They do far more than cover the Middle East well- although that is their current focus. I have seen the best documentaries there on the US and South America as well. They have picked up good reporters dropped by CNN and BBC. Riz Khan does excellent interviews of a wide variety of people. Keep insisting that you get access. It is that good.
Like PBS, BBC is becoming shadow of its former self since the UK govt starter pressuring it (under Blair) to be a propaganda outlet.
Imagine, being able to cry at the beauty of American protests being covered by the media. Maybe we can get AJ to cover us and then what would happen when our government closed them down.
Their interviews can be great. They actually call BS on their guests when it happens.
Agreed..
DemocracyNow! now!
True dat. I hear more of the party line on BBC than I thought I’d ever hear.
True, but it’s still head and shoulders above what passes for “news” here.
The Guardian is a far better UK source than the BBC, which you define correctly as a propaganda outlet.
Plus, they ask real questions and press their guests to answer them. I have so enjoyed watching our politicians skirm.
AJE: The opposition groups have formed into a 10 person committee and have said they won’t negotiate with the incumbent government until Mubarek steps down. They then would negotiate with the VP Suleiman and the current government.
Morning BT & Firepups:
A constitutional primer delivered from high atop the mountain of freedom.
I’ve been streaming AJ every waking moment since the protests began. It’s coverage of Egypt has been great.
Got dn going on another window. Will switch back to AJ when dn is over.
The really, really bad news is my bees have been mited out of existence.
Aw, man, that sucks.
Great video from Cairo on the Guardian’s live blog:

:’(
Oh dear. How do you know in the winter? Did you open up the hive?
Mine were treated a couple of times last year. And we watch every couple of days to see whether there’s a problem. But haven’t checked them out since winter set in. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Oh, how awful. That truly sucks. Are you going to try again?
Sorry to hear that. I wonder if there’s a way to control mites, but introducing a parasite or something.
How did that fool with a flag get atop that tall whatever in the “Latest Pictures” clip they just showed? Man, oh, man.
Ow!
Then the WSJ feels the need to post headlines like this:
Yo BT: Thanks for posting this clip. Now that I’ve turned off MSNBC, I would have missed the piece. Glad to see Rachel taking this angle on the story.
Speaking of MSNBC, any reports on ratings effect since KO was blown off the air? I’m guessing it made a pretty good dent. Way to go, Comcast / Phil Griffin… Dipshits.
Herbal/chemical treatment. Called something like Thymerisol. I haven’t checked it out, as my beekeeper brings it when the hives need treatment.
AJ-E is on cable in Burlington, BT, some city in Ohio & D.C.
Murdoch’s doing a good job with the WSJ, right? Great job, Rupert.
Part of AJ’s secret plot to convert them all to extremist Muslims and then take over…
Al Jaz English has been my go-to world news site for about a year now. Absolute best, hands down.
How Americans can watch millionaire cable news fuckdolls talk to them like five-year-olds, I don’t understand.
Yeah, amazing how vulnerable people are to that sort of propaganda.
Even here at FDL, a couple of years ago when I commented on some ME event from some info I picked up on AJ, another commenter was outraged that I would watch such a terrible outlet. I didn’t bother enlightening him/her, but I was surprised to find such ignorance here.
Trouble with AJ is they cover stuff I’m not interested in at all, like ww sport, weather, and topics that I’ve picked up in past couple of days like Japanese women’s tribulations in trying to get legal permission to keep their surnames after marriage, abortions in Thailand. So I can’t use it as my normal news channel. But these days when it’s Egypt 24/7 almost, it’s been great.
Yep. The indicator was the bazillion dead bees being pushed out of the hives. Oh well on to next year.
Thanks all for the sympathies.
Reuters tweets: FLASH: U.S. orders all non-emergency embassy personnel to leave Egypt-state dept
You got your choices. Abortion in Thailand or Palin’s panties at FDL
You got that right. Thanks for the morning laugh.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Or read a good book.
I’ve been watching foodnetwork a lot recently.
I’ve never ever watched a food show. I think I’d rather watch the grass growing network.
Did you check them regularly for mites last year? I’ve got white foam board that slides out of the bottom and you got to count the # of dead mites that drop down on it for an indication of how many live ones there are in the hive. Also, my guy can spot the malformed wings that indicate mites. When you get about 20-30 mites on the board in a couple of days, the hive needs to be treated.
MSNBC is still on the air? /s
We had yet another Giada recipe last evening Chicken Scaloppine with safron cream sauce along with a delightful Pinot Grigio. Her recipes have yet to let us down, every one of them delicious.
Yes, the bee guy did but I am going to have to pay a mite more attention.
She’s one of my faves.
I’ll never watch american news channels again. They’re is just no comparison. They are light years behind Al-Jazeera.
Ah but you had no idea that you should put lemon zest in your chicken soup and now you know what you a missing. Some of the food shows are crap but a number of them have some interesting info.
I’m very worried about how mine are fairing this very severe winter. I haven’t been over to look at them since the snow started, and since my fall, it would be quite hike on unsteady legs to get to them. I think I’ll call my bee guy today & see if he can make a visit.
Lemon zest goes into everything. Who woulda guessed? *g*
Yes, but I’ll always have my friends at the lake. The lemon and zinc and soup did the trick on that cold, for sure. :)
Pharaoh and balanced news
Very good news….G’Morning All….Cold in TX and getting colder all week, they say.
Better put another sweater on. You don’t want to catch a cold.
So true/Thanks….I heard the Dallas airport has closed due to ice storm…Oklahoma City, also. That will all be a mess.
VERY good!
Brought to you by organized labor.

See! See! The hoax of “global warming” is all just a left-wing plot cooked up and paid for by George Soros to prove something or other… /s
I so rarely watch or listen to anything on the tv or radio. It is useless crap for the most part with far too much rightwing spin and talking points uselessly inserted to continue the mind control of dumbed down US citizens.
Thank the gawdz for the ‘tubes cuz otherwise, it’d really be the pits.
I’ve watched AJ over the years and have been impressed by it, but then again, almost any other news outlet globally is better then the swill pumped out to USA dopes.
I once got see Al-Jazeera live in Arabic at a hotel in Houston that catered to the oil companies, I guess. It was in the early days of the Iraq war, and though I didn’t understand a word, I was profoundly impressed. It looked more like a war than anything I had seen up until then. It made me realize how sanitizing our corporate media is–when they deign to show or tell us at all.
Just checked streaming. Al Jazeera covering Egypt. MSNBC covering balloon boy court hearings.
The existence of Fox News proves that American Media sucks incredibly. Is there even a show as ridiculous as Fox News anywhere else in the world. Benny Hill reruns and Ultraman don’t count BTW.
