Welcome to the next decade, when we finally get the report telling us what we knew back in 2007 when this investigation started, that Rove politicized the government.

It only took years to figure out what was known at the time. It’s almost as if legal violations have no consequences if you’re a Republican.
Yep, I’m quick on the uptake.

The Palestine Papers – In Which We Learn No One Speaks for the Palestinians |
| By: Siun Monday January 24, 2011 7:15 pm |
Yesterday, as Israel prepared to launch a PR campaign to support their self-investigation of the Mavi Mamara, Al Jazeera released the first of 1700 leaked documents telling us what has really been going on during the “Israeli Palestinian peace talks.” As one commentator has said, “they blow the cover off the secret negotiations.” Al Jazeera has shared the documents with the Guardian, where comments note that Israel’s persistent claim to not have a “partner for peace” can no longer be given any credibility.

FDL Movie Night: TV’s “Dragnet” |
| By: Lisa Derrick Monday January 24, 2011 5:00 pm |
This is the city. Los Angeles, California. I work here. I carry a badge. My name’s Friday. The story you are about to see is true; the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
I grew up watching Dragnet, which began its run in 1967 and lasted three and a half seasons. I thought it was a pretty weird, but I learned lots of things about my hometown, and about life in general–like how to judge the quality of a fur, from the episode where Joe Friday’s partner’s Frank Gannon went undercover to bust a burglary ring; and it was always fun to to try and guess the what the sentences for crimes would be.
The Antidote to Deficit Hysteria – the Financial Transactions Tax |
| By: David Dayen Monday January 24, 2011 4:30 pm |
We’re headed into the deficit debate, and one attractive idea has been left on the sidelines – the notion of a financial transactions tax. Most of our stock transactions these days come out of a computer. They offer nothing of value to the public, enhance risk and feed a desire for more dangerous bets that could (and often do) cause financial crashes. As a society, even if we had no need for more revenue, we would do well to limit this growing financialization in the economy, and that goes hand-in-hand with limiting stock transactions. And one great way to use market forces to reach that goal is through a small tax on each transaction.
Jane on MSNBC: Bradley Manning’s Abuse Will Only Stop When People Ask Questions |
| By: Michael Whitney Monday January 24, 2011 3:40 pm |
Firedoglake.com’s Jane Hamsher went on MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan Show this afternoon to discuss Bradley Manning’s imprisonment at Quantico Marine base, and how she and David House were detained at Quantico for two hours yesterday.
Hamsher explained that the government’s goal is to completely isolate Bradley Manning. When Dylan Ratigan asked if she feared her appearance would further endanger Manning, Hamsher replied that “the only thing that’s going to stop the abuse of Bradley Manning is when people start asking questions.”
