Zed!
Awesome to see how much time Democracy Now! has been getting on MSNBC.
Tuttle!
Gandhi was once asked what he thought about western civilization. His
response was: “I think it would be a good idea.”
CT !
Or was that George the Third?
Doing a drive-by .. but thanks for playing Leonard, CTut .. best of the eve to all .. will slip by later as time allows …
Hiya Pups!
Storms coming in…
Brrr
Hey Chris!
I guess there is a limit to how many D.C. insiders saying the same thing one can air before you have to put something informative one.
Hey, little wild bouquets. I’m surfin’ by, waving!
Hey newt! Great to see you.
Yup, Toronto is preparing for a nasty couple of days … frigid temps and lotsa Snow.
We’re fighting back with Grand Marnier & Single Malt … *g*
It is now snowing like crazy!
Who woulda thunk it, huh?
Although, to be fair, anyone who puts Democracy Now! on the air deserves some points for doing so. They could have just put on another hack.
Same!
I guess you have a date with a snow-blower so you can go to work tomorrow.
I teach about 375 college kids per year in music appreciation. Many are from outside the USA. Some have problems with understanding Baroque, Classical, Romantic and modern music. When I help them, one of the most common responses I get – often from very, very bright kids – is “Your music all sounds the same to me.”
We are watching Invictus again.
Way to fight back, Petro! I just bought a 5-gallon can of gas for mine and a bottle of Bushmills for me.
ET !
When are you coming to Toronto ?*
*Don’t mind me, I have to ask this question at least once a year … *g*
Hey Buddy !
Toronto is on tap for about a foot of Snow, perhaps more … not many people are gonna make it into work on Wednesday.
evenin’. anybody see Biutiful yet? tough flic, profoundly saddening, yet full of humanity amid the squallor.
Interviewing Farley Mowat is on my short list of dream jobs. Other than that and seeing you, it may be a while.
Hah!
I’ve got some great gin (Miller’s) and vodka, but really the most important is MrCE’s single malt scotch, Laphroaig.
I hope Farley is available to be interviewed by you soon … mi casa su casa !
No, but it is on my list!
Perfect accompaniment for operating heavy equipment … *g*
This is where I should just STFU. I get Margot and Chris and you and ET all riled up.
It hasn’t snowed in these parts since it did nothing BUT snow everywhere, ‘several’ thousand years ago.
our movie viewing this past weekend, a duo of despair: Winter’s Bone followed by Biutiful. Good times!
I for one am glad to hear there’s someplace on Earth where the weather dudn’t sucketh … and you have a real Pro Hockey Team as well ! *g*
My good spirits prolly have to do more with … um, Spirits and the fact that all the kids are rilly, rilly looking forward to a Snow Day.
perhaps this isn’t the best time to hop on a plane at SFO to visit McGill University, where punaisette has applied?
Which is right outside my window — trucks and plows roaring by.
You rang?
He was one of the first people to be put on an American “no fly” list.
Woo Hoo … she’s applied to McGill ?
Sending you all good wishes, that she gets into her most fave Univ. !
Weeks since we’ve been to the movies, last film we saw here was the Kings Speech. And we have a pretty good idependent theatre in Cleveland.
Rohinton Mistry also had trouble entering America … famous Authors are a threat to
the New World Order !
Hey!
I would bet that you all thought you were through with me last night…
NOT TRUE!
CTuttle has had a connection problem, so it’s Lurk until the end.
/~~~
Oh you have exciting times ahead of you!
Don’t they make those things with plows on the snouts?
All primed up to go out into the night and blizzard, operating our Rube Goldbergesque machines (snowblowers) under the influence, eh?
it’s pretty high up on her list, and we like the price tag compared to US colleges (French citizens get local residency status).
Hey! I’m thrilled to see you!
Just pre-apologizing for the nice weather here.
I know you must be getting hit pretty hard.
uh, that would be locomotives.
I will not hurl innuendos CT’s way …
I will not hurl innuendos CT’s way …
I will not hurl innuendos CT’s way …
Do let me know if she makes it to Montreal … I’ll send her Care packages every once in a while …
Snowing …
awesome. we’ll know in April.
I wonder…
Music To Move Snow By.
Well, just to remind you all that it’s weird music from here out, some more of the wildly popular Radiohead!
{{{ Margot }}}
Hi Chris!
{{Petro!}}
It’s just getting really cold. I think they already canceled a few things in advance, so people already know who has school, etc. Ice is expected.
2nd take – Ms ET was supposed to fly out of Anchorage this morning on a DeHavilland Beaver to a small airstrip on an island in Prince William Sound, to mentor teachers. Here’s the radar right now. Chenega is where she was going. They cancelled the flight before she left. Good thing. It would have been an overnight trip, but I’ve got a hunch anyone who is there will be there all week. At least.
Hey Margot!
Looking out my window — the snow is serious and so tiny, so tiny!
somebody’s on a Radiohead jag….
It went over sooooo well the other night…
It’s you and me, punaise.
yeah, they’re banging down the doors, huh?
I’m the first to admit they’re an acquired taste.
I went back and started over with Pablo Honey last night. The band has taken a couple of striking turns.
I’m just watching the end of Invictus, and worrying about the snow — are you guys ok?
They hit their alt-pop stride with the Bends (check out the songs High & Dry, Fake Plastic Trees…). OK Computer was an epic breakthrough, an angst-filled classic for the ages. Then Kid A turned everything upside down, in a brilliant way. Amnesic and Hail to the Thief largely disappointed (with a few exceptions), but In Rainbows was a nice bounce back. Did I miss anything? YMMV.
That seems comprehensive :)
I have gained recent access to a slew of live shows. They are very, very different, and excellent in the live.
Had to go there, huh? Okay, then-
You want weird? Try this.
I surrender. That is weird.
Honor is due, RonD!
cool, must be good. I’ve never managed to see them in concert.
that’s definitely out there.
LOL. There are just so few opportunities to pull that one out.
The track I posted Wednesday night was from Prague. It (the entire 2 hour concert) is watchable, and downloadable in hi-def – for free. It’s tremendous. I was blown away.
snagged it – thx!
signing off with a blast from my past: Brand X
happy trax….
Thanks, good night punaise
‘night, punaise!
that is funky.
And then there’s Eno
No, not the Walrus.
Outstanding hip-hop – Don’t Stop. they play the instruments.
Here’s another from them- recorded live in 1 take, or so I’ve heard. A cover – Something About Us
They’re called Balance and the Traveling Sounds. Best band nobody’s ever heard of!
Hey, Patrick! Actual music.
I like that, thanks punaise
The second one – nice.
evening patrick
Actual, honest-to-bejeebers music. They are writing a new album. These guys need all the youtube hits they can get. It’s been posted more than a month and for this qualuty, they should be well on their way to a million.
Evening!
Awesome.
Very nice horn section.
You’re right. It’s really good…I wonder if it’s the long title on YouTube and their name is hard to remember.
That’s what I noticed first. I would have mic’d the drums a little differently, but it’s a band of … musicians! Great horns. Really soulful.
And yes, it’s still more Pink Floyd:
Careful With That Axe, Eugene
Maybe. I think BTS is better.
I was introduced to PF in the late 60′s. We liked Saucerful of Secrets a lot.
I do too, I hope they change it soon…they are really talented.
Somehow I got a copy of a mini-concert Pink Floyd did in the ruins of Pompeii sometime before or during the Dark Side rehearsals. ’72 I think. Not sure, but I think I heard that song there.
Live in Pompeii…available everywhere. Eugene is indeed on there, along with an apocalyptic reading of “Echoes”.
I thought as I watched it, “Who gets Pompeii to practice in?”
Ah yes, the lovely Mademoiselle Nobs
They were never there, actually. The camera just caught the last trails of a very intense acid trip the band went on in 1968. They were in Encino the whole time.
I know. I was, “I want to do that!” They got to play at fucking Versailles too.
Maybe a show in the Colosseum, or the Pyramids…
Poor Sid woulda been proud.
Oh my, I mean Syd.
Slayer performed in front of the Pyramids in an awful video I saw on MTV. I think even Beavis and Butthead panned it.
You know it. An exceptional talent.
Slayer…
Now there is some real gravitas.
Happy to have missed that. I think the Dead did a show at the Pyramids as well.
For Beavis and Butthead to have panned Slayer, it had to have been really bad.
Still, I think the most stoned audience I was in was one at Winterland when the Grateful Dead played. Not the most stoned performer – Jim Morrison wins that one.
I met their manager once at his house in the Hollywood hills. Not that he let me in the door. But I met him.
If you pictured their manager as Danny DeVito with rings, a hangover and an attitude, you might live in the neighborhood.
Hey folks. Yesterday I went to a party. I started talking about the various things I’m working on. Gun violence, violent rhetoric, fighting the NRA. I realized that all the stuff I’m interested in is scary and dark to most people. “Why would you want to challenge gun nuts?”
I changed the topic to movies.
If I could find it on the tubez I’d post it for your regurgitation.
The Mechanic?
Sammy Hagar, Cow Palace one New Years eve in the late 70′s.
He was just cooked.
I never saw Jim, and I have never been to a Dead show, but I have heard that Jerry could get pretty whacked.
Sesame Street Slayer Sing-Along
Hey spocko. We do sometimes scare those around us.
Now that a District Federal judge has held the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, why not prepare the following.
(seek legal advice independently; this is not offered as such:)
Progressive organizations, private class action firms:
explore whether having sold insurance knowing customers would be on shaky ground when it became apparent they likely really WOULD need care
constituted fraud; whether the inability of persons to move from state to
state without going coverage “naked” as to health risk factors where such factors have already presented is interference with interstate commerce; and, at the very least, the progressive organizations should immediately
work to eliminate the health insurance cartel’s statutory immunity from the anti-trust laws.
Where something walks like it’s rotten, quacks like it’s rotten, and looks rotten, it probably is.

Jim performed at an outdoor concert in San Jose, CA. It was the second time I saw them. Janis and he spent some time in her trailer and she came out and blew everyone over. Fantastic performance with Big Brother and the Holding Co. Later the Doors played. Jim was so wasted he couldn’t enunciate. Back Door Man was “BADORMAN!” Then came the Morrisonocalypse. Clutching the microphone atop the mic stand, he began what I recall was a slow fall to his left, singing as he left us. Somewhere on the way down, he split his pants.
It was immortalized in a series of photos in either the Berkeley Barb or the Oracle.
That’s wasted.
Spocko!
Tell your friends about the DOJ under Bush. The reply is usually,’What? What happened?’
I’d concentrate on amending the Constitution to un-declare corporations as persons (or impeach Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy, Roberts and Alito – which might be nigh on impossible).
If that decision stands, and their money is speech, depriving them of their ill-gotten gains would be, in their eyes, a violation of their right to free speech.
‘night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
To tomorrows!
Good night, RonD
Speaking of the Dead – The Golden Road
wow
And the reason I never saw a Dead show is because my friends were so obnoxious about them. They really could have been better stoners…
Two of them got married later, and quit grad school to go on a nationwide ‘follow da Dead’ tour of their own.
Yeah. It’s funny the things I know and care about. I know about the US and torture. I can talk about the Taguba report on torture. Last week I was reading the detailed laws on open carry, concealed carry and the hotel insurance documents.
Today I was just really depressed. I think it was from a combination of reading stories about Palin’s speech at the Safari Hunt club with title like: Palin Kills It in Gun Country and
Palin Knocks ‘em Dead in Speech to Safari Club International
Fox News (blog) – Andrew Romano -
It occurred to me yesterday that the mainstream media will not, in advance, do a story about security around a politician. They are trying to be responsible. Yet, they are also ignoring the fact that the “guns everywhere makes people safer” are irresponsible with their comments.
You never know what you were getting at any concert back then. But a lot of them were free or dirt cheap! By way of disclaimer, the Doors were great the other time I saw them, which was an indoor concert.
My merry band of weekend hippies all blamed it on Southern Comfort.
I’ve been looking at who is speaking at CPAC and what the subjects are.
It’s really bizarre. Tucker Carlson gets an Accuracy in Media Award?
Rumsfeld gets a “Defender of the Constitution” award?
Michele Bachmann is a keynote speaker
LOL! What are friends for, anyway?
We forget how plugged-in we are.
And Palin – when you are busted and bleeding, double-down.
C-Span ratings bonanza.
I admit to rarely being without a spiked watermelon in those days. The vast majority of the shows I have seen were great.
They’re all just your average, everyday winsome fascists working for billionaires to topple America so they can help feast on its carcass. I’m sure Tucker and Rummy believe they earned them. I’m not sure Michelle believes anything, especially if it is disgorged from her mouth.
Ditto that! Even the ones with split pants. Hell, I remember that one!
Best show ever – and we were 100% straight – The ‘So’ tour.
Maybe they will read the part of the Constitution about cruel and unusually punishment very quietly when they give the award to Rummy.
Maybe Jon Stewart will give Tucker the award.
Oh sure… Now the NSA f*ckers let me on…! *gah*
Sorry about the late entry ya’ll…! 8-(
CPAC will be all over the news. The media will wait for Bachmann or Coulter to say something outragous. Then they will all write their stories about the tea party and the future of the party.
I’ve been thinking about how to get some of these people to say something that pisses off their base. I’ve been doing research. The EVP of the NRA is speaking at CPAC. Did you know that he can not bring a gun into the venue? Did you know that Mitt Romney forced the Marriott to give up 100 million in porn revenue? Maybe I can get the NRA pissed at the Marriott for not allowing guns at CPAC. And, if they can get a waver on guns, then I’ll contact their insurance carrier and make sure they know that if anything goes wrong they will be on the hook for millions.
Sir! Welcome aboard.
Splashy, trashy, and bereft of a clue draws eyes.
It sucks.
Much Mahalos, Lurk…! *sigh* I missed some of my best buds like Petro and Pun…! 8-(
I can’t believe CPAC is still holding it with most of the heavy hitters having pulled out of it…!
I threw more Radiohead at the pups, and they ran for cover!
Really? Who pulled out?
Do you blame them…? ;-)
We want to leave them hoping for more CTuttle. So my work is done.
Now, now. It wasn’t running for cover. It was a friendly disagreement over the true meaning of “weird.”
See my #64.
Once again, goodnight to all.
Heritage Foundation, Sens’ Demint and Rubio… Because of GOProud’s participation…!
Thanks again Lurk…
The Fez man is upstairs…!
Aloha Oe…! *g*
