The Wikileaks-triggered popular revolt in Tunisia has sent shock waves through the authoritarian régimes in the Middle East. Dictators throughout the area have been nervously wondering “Where will the revolt go next?” even as demonstrations started in Egypt (where among the last rumors before the Mubarak dictatorship cut off internet access late Wednesday was the story that régime operatives were throwing gasoline on cars prior to a planned fire-setting yesterday that was to be blamed on the protesters) and Yemen.
Hearing about these revolts, and the people willing to risk everything they have for them, makes for a sharp contrast between these brave persons and the frothing conservatives common in the US, particularly the pro-establishment John Bircherite “revolutionaries” that make up the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. The people in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen are fighting for basic freedoms we here in the US take for granted. The teabagger types and their fellow travelers riled up by their rhetoric are fighting against things like — traffic laws:
When the jack booted thugs gave Ray Wolfe citations for traffic violations, he used his rights as an American to go to court to fight them. As often happens, there were some scheduling issues that didn’t sit right with Mr. Wolfe. When he sent some pointed letters to the court requesting a continuance of his hearing, Mr. Wolfe took the opportunity to inform them that he was on to their dastardly communist plot:
To let you know I use the word “Judge” lightly in your case. Your asshole (traffic cop) wrote me that ticket, committing constructive treason, and perjury of his oath, as you are about to do. If I come down there you damn sure won’t want me in your courtroom. I know you have people in the courthouse guarding your sorry “Communist” ass. I told you I am currently “Out OF STATE” and I demand a continuance. This is no longer a request!
The gentleman continued to provide the court with other examples of their treason, but the judges didn’t take too well to the letters. He was eventually tried and convicted of tampering with a judicial officer in violation of Missouri law.
You must read the judge’s opinion on this case. There are more examples of Wolfe’s wit, along with his poor attorney’s doomed efforts to argue that the doofus didn’t really mean it, and besides, he was just following the rhetorical examples set by various great American heroes:
These are words, that Jeffersonian style words which have been used to inspire people. However, this was not the purpose. This is for shock.
These things like liberty, tyrants, blood, this is just firing language that’s used to shock and awe people. It’s the type of language that gets Americans to stand up and throw British into the ocean. It’s the type of language used by Martin Luther King because you’ve talked people into walking from Selma, Alabama all the way to Montgomery knowing that the highway patrolmen were going to beat the crap out of them when they hit the bridge.
The prosecutor’s response to this argument was priceless:
I might have missed some days in history class in high school, but I don’t remember Thomas Jefferson ever telling you, “You can take that arrest warrant and shove it up your Communist ass.”
Indeed. By the way, here’s Mr. Wolfe’s website.

Great post, PW. “Hissy fits?” 707!
The Tea Baggers and Republicans have a vision of the U.S. that’s along the lines of Mubarak’s Egypt. Authoritarian, dictatorial and exclusive. The corporate media and their celebrity hacks and shills have the same vision.
Wow, that Ray Wolfe guy is weapons grade stupid.
I don’t think the Teabaggers want that, at least, they don’t think they want that. They envision themselves as the idealized rugged individualist, simple folks living their lives as they see fit. Beholden to no man, answering to God. Brave, patriotic, strong. A man’s man, mourning the loss of a time when men could be men.
Sort of like those dentists and accountants who dress up like pirates and ride around town on their Harleys on the weekends, when the weather’s nice.
Obama and Hillary need to demand that Mubarek restore the internet, cell phones and TV first so that the Egyptian revolution can be shared and lift the veil dictatorship. Tell the White House please Jane!
This is the biggest event in modern history unfolding and voices of change need to be at the podium instead of the regime in power. And USA and rest of the world leaders should demand the army stop shooting people if Obama really wants a peaceful transition.
They figure they don’t need mechanics and plumbers and all the other people who actually run and maintain stuff.
(Teh stoopid is very strong in them. I heard one guy arguing that hard water was the cause of the flusher in his euphemism breaking repeatedly. I think it’s him.)

Don’t be polite…
PW,
while the incident cited is worth mocking, there is a very real and valid outrage among the citizens in states that are increasingly turning the police force into revenue agents. Here in California, if you get ticketed for a rolling right turn, the ticket costs well over $500- thanks to the fecklessness of our state legislature. In my small community- one that is way over-policed for its size, residents are facing a daily barrage of tickets- chiefly to plug budget holes opened up by the refusal of Republicans to allow tax hikes. I’ve heard that police officers are being required to write 80-100 tickets a week. Unfortunately, Democrats seem oblivious to what is going on, while the radical right seems to have no problem on cynically using this issue to advance their agenda.
The stupid BURNS! This protester uprising is showing us exactly what kind of media we have and what type of government we have. I’m talking government in all aspects from local to the top!
Well, you are supposed to stop on red, because someone might be about to step off the curb. (Also, I see people at one intersection that is clearly posted ‘no right turn on red’ making turns on the red lightanyway, and I expect someday to see a major accident because of it.)
I wish they’d raise the fine for driving while phoning, because there are still way too many people who haven’t gotten the word.

Speaking of stupid, there’s an editorial at the LA Times arguing that we need more airport security because Domodedovo, never mind that the security we have is more theater than anything else. (It’s by Kip Hawley, who is at least partially responsible for the current security theater. Be warned, there’s no intelligent opinion there.)
I just realized this morning that yesterday was my 6th blogoversary. So I thought a retrospective was in order, including the opening words, and a link to, my very first entry 3000 blog posts ago.
This sounds up there with tax protesters and their frivolous excuses why they don’t have to pay income tax.
The IRS has a helpful explanation of frivolous excuses that won’t even be considered.

Wesley Snipes should have paid attention to it.
And there are plenty of “workshops” and “seminars” held all over the country that for a fee will instruct you that you are not legally required to pay income taxes because the constitution was never properly amended to allow income taxes, dollars are not income because the u.s. went off the gold standard, that it is perfectly ok to claim 15 dependents, etc., etc.
I guess it’s the free market at work (snark), but I feel sorry for the gullible who are taken in by these scam artists.
I like Wolfe’s style.
: )
Here’s some pigs for ya.

But the problem really happens when the poor schlub that made that right turn has to pay the fine. For MANY people, a $500 fine will make them homeless or mean that their kids won’t have the food they need that month. Fines that high are INSANELY UNJUST and victimise those that are on the low end of the economic scale. I think it may be in Sweden that traffic fines are calculated according to income to mitigate this sort of thing.
And he’s a student at a low-grade law school.
Yes, and everyone else knew “their” place in this man’s world.
The Oligarchs encourage the small folks to behave like 2d grade bullies lacking in any social graces, randomly acting & lashing out at anyone and anything that happens to displease them at that moment in time… because it distracts these idiots from how very ripped off they are by the Oligarchs.
Tea Baggerz can waste their time – as well as the time of various public servants at a cost to their community even though these same jerkwads are soooo opposed to taxation, except when it comes to THEM wasting precious tax dollars on their “hissy fits,” then the tax dollars are well spent (see: I got mine, EFF you) – feeling incredibly rad & manly & justified & self-righteously indignent & incendiary rage bc it’s all & only about THEM. Just where the Oligarchs want it. Who cares if these hoons cost society wasted buck$$?? As long as they don’t wake up to reality like the good citizens of Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan have.
I think the fantasy world that these schlubs think they are vastly entitled to live in is their perception of the wild west, where white men ruled, women knew their “place,” and the native americans were the “enemy” to do with as the white men wished. Land was purportedly “free,” and all these virile white men got run around with weapons, and if they didn’t like something, they were entitled to respond with extreme prejudice and no consequences, other than their virile buddies buying them a neat whiskey at the local saloon… before going off the bedroom with “Miss Kitty,” who of course is willing to do it for free… etc.
Food just appears when needed, and no one needs to take a bath. No one gets sick or needs a dentist. Money is optional, no taxes, no real law, but life is beautiful! It’s all so easy, and everything goes the white man’s way… and look ma: no taxes!! And the free market makes it all work.
These assholes are deluded and in denial, but there numbers are growing. eeeejots….
“The Oligarchs encourage the small folks to behave like 2d grade bullies lacking in any social graces, randomly acting & lashing out at anyone and anything that happens to displease them at that moment in time… because it distracts these idiots from how very ripped off they are by the Oligarchs.”
The ‘Oligarchs’ (ha) encourage the lumpen to talk nice to their betters, do the shit work, provide the ass, take the the paycheck and STFU. Why did Dick Armey astroturf the teabaggers if your formulation is correct, onitgoes?
Do you recall the phrase “Fucking r****ded”?
The *outcome* of the Oligarch’s encouraging some segment of the lumpen to misbehave and act like jerks is as you posit – to the do the shit work for low pay. I agree with you about that. What I said is just the other side of the coin: encourage the nutbars to act out, and in so doing, be pit against other lumpen in a ridiculous way, whilst encouraging their delusion that in so doing, they are being “free men” in the fabled libertarian free market, which is happy fairy tale land.
IMO, you and are talking about pretty much the same thing.
The difference is that *some* of see very clearly what the Oligarchs are doing, and how they are abusing the serfs. Some segments of the serfs appear to feel enabled by their bullying to believe that somehow they are being treated “well” by the Oligarchs, who really “get” how things are. So they support the Oligarchy, whilst fighting against the other segment of the lumpen, who are asking, for real, for better treatment.
The phrase f*ucking retarded was aimed at the leftwing, as you might recall. That sobriquet was NOT aimed at the rightwing nutjobs at all. Rather, it was aimed at those of us speaking truth to power.
It’s just the other side of the giant Kabuki show, imo.
Dunno, dude’s beef seems to be with judges, prosecutors, and police, not lumpen. Speaking truth to power?
“This book is filled with travesties of justice that should not be allowed in this country. Wolfe and several others have complained to the Missouri attorney general, Missouri Governor, the FBI, and the Department of Justice but this travesty continues. It is like these agencies are condoning and promoting the corruption and injustice in the courts of Missouri, and even grants immunity to the judicial tyrants that are committing these atrocities while sitting on the bench, or wearing badges. The travesties of justice in this book are written from real accounts in SW Missouri but could be applied to other parts of this state and country.”

He says the cop stole his money.
“Before I was able to leave, Bert gave me my wallet back and I saw that I had $35.00 dollars missing which I protested and he claimed that I didn’t have any more money in my wallet than what was there, but I knew better. He had stolen my money for the crime he instigated while wearing a badge.”
