About Firedoglake
A big ZED for Suz.. Hope all is well..
Friday Muppets.
Nice to see the Lurking Mod carry on traditions.
nahant, Here for the Cash?
Welcome.
Hi wmd,glad you are here.
Muppets are Suzanne’s franchise. I’m just trying not to be disruptive :)
Dayam, Lurk… I would’ve been stoked to have featured this tonite…!
For what it’s worth…! ;-)
Of course by now you all know that Suzanne is on the road, partying heartily over her impending GrandMotherhood.
Muppets were a Friday thing for CHS and the peanut. Suz picked it up a while after CHS left.
Apparently overly heartily…! ;-)
Evening, CTuttle.
I don’t see any furry creatures in that one, but it is a very nice choice for the evening.
Are you and Mauimom still going on about ‘snow in Hawaii’?
(I can not believe I am saying that…)
Suz…Oh, you again. Hey Lurk!
Do you have an update?
Drive-by for Suz -
“Crunchy? Crunchy? I don’t know what that mean?”
Crunchy – ZZ Top
“Yeah, I’ll get some crunchy here…I’ll get some in tomorrow…Uh, tomorrow from downtown…”
Hey Lurk! So happy for Suzanne. Hiya All!
LOL, Welcome radiofreewill!
Hi Christine!
I am just head-over-heels about it.
Yoo hoo!
Kelly, You here for the ‘Cash’?
Nice night for it.
Babies — we are going to make you guys silly about our love for them.
Dammit! I just left Vegas!
All those damn chips, no cash…
Kelly! Write me love!
While doing my search tonight, I stumbled upon this gem.
Muppets do The Plimsoles?!?
Not if the ‘staff’ beats you to it!
It is Baby-Bedlam back here!
No… And I know I’m gonna get the lQQk when she does…! ;-)
Je vous écris pour vous l’amour!
Smooch!
*Lurk puts on Jewish Mother hat*
“So, dahling, did you at least get a good meal?”
Oy, vas gut, mit dem par ev, but alvays mit der fleisch, they got der problem. Alzo!
Fear not. Sundays and Mondays, you are King.
Google-translator just crashed!
That is hilarious!
Kann ich nicht hilfe! Oy!
So did MrCE who told me that I’m on my own. Heh.
I want Baby Bedlam! Ah well. When I least expect it, I’ll encounter it. (I hope)
I have had two in my life, both the mothers of girlfriends.
I loved them both dearly, but oy…
OK, what’ll it be? Champagne?
You should know, we love you here. Oy.
Why is the confederate flag in the background?
Margot! Hey!
Suzanne will not disappoint, I am sure. The storm of pictures will occupy many happy evenings here.
Yep! Let’s all agree that OY =
O, Yer champagne, bitchez!
Si!
Hey, welcome labrador.
Surf’s UP!
*heh* Can I give her the lQQK then…? ;-)
Unless the boss (Suzanne) runs me out, you will have to cope with me again real soon :)
Hey ThatGuy, great video. Crossroads is right where those boys belong.
I love that Suz is Grandma this year, I am to be mother of the groom, and you are always here to help.
Shorthand for Southern/Country, is how I see it. Perceptions of the flag have evolved considerably since then.
They’ve been described as the Salvadore Dalis of the Delta. I like that as much as any description.
Oh , we love the LQQK!
H/T Christine!
Part of my ongoing training will probably be virtual diaper changes and such.
Hey RonD, nice to see you up here.
You are probably wise to keep that one stowed…
It’s amazing what two gee-tars and a set of drums can do…! ;-)
Hey, great comment from Eric, too. Wow.
Perceptions of the Confederate flag have evolved in the last thirty years? Really? … What does ‘evolve’ mean in this context?
Heh Heh! This gives you utube wildcard.
I have double chocolate pecan brownies…
Thanks, Lurk. Likewise.
evening, firegods
As long as it’s virtual… You’re good to go then, Lurk…! ;-)
You can cool it. That is, if anyone’s bad, mine, for not having a sharp enough eye when picking this evening’s video.
Mea culpa.
I did another ping today. HR said they’re getting approvals to make offer:
Also asked me if 2/7 or 2/14 would be a better start date.
I can smell them from here. As always, on break when Margot whips out the choc…
I can cool what? Noticing that the confederate flag? I’m cool. Why are you admonishing ME?!
Hey, PPD. Margot has chocolate!
it’s always good to see margot — chocolate is, how you say, icing on the cake?
My number 2 son had almost given up finding a job.
Then we ran into a friend who drives for a local company, and he got him set for an interview and put his name down as a reference. It is the most hope we’ve had in a long time. It’s a minimum wage job but this is a start.
In this market, terrific. Congrats.
I think a great many people, who for generations considered the Confederate battle flag to be simply the flag of some Song of the South-style myth, have awoken in the last twenty years or so to the fact that the battle flag has been the flag of segregation, of Jim Crow, of the Klan for a hell of a lot longer than it was the flag of the Confederacy, and adjusted their behavior accordingly. I have seen people who grew up with it on their house refuse any association. As my brother-in-law said: “That’s the brother-hatin’ flag, and everybody knows it.” The Confederate flag, imo, is not nearly as socially acceptable now as it was then, at least where I live.
More of that Little Ol’ Band from Texas!
Newt, if you’re still about… I’d posted a powerful op-ed I mentioned down stairs…
A Palestinian Editor Calls Out Bibi and The Arab League…
What a nice person you are.
Hey, does anyone here know about idiograms?
It’s cool! I noticed it too, and it looks weird seen with today’s eyes, but in context, that was 30 years ago, and it just wasn’t seen the same way then. Great video.
Yeah, just read it.
Pal, it’s NOT cool.
It’s not an insignificant thing, and it is not what it once was.
I remember being struck at the sight of Dukes of Hazzard.
Fair enough. Are we through?
Did I get the Zed?
Senator! Sanity reinstated!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm1-jPEAe9s
Tracy Chapman
Shit fire, that is a lot of responsibility.
I love Tracy. haven’t heard her in a while.
Excuse me…my “it’s cool” was in response to Lurk’s mea culpa. My feelings about the flag itself should be clear from the above comment; I am therefore unsure of what you are referring to.
You are a graphic designer. You are up to it.
But alas, the Zed is elsewhere.
You good?
I am gud. How about you?
Yes, and you too, look nice today.
*G*
I am gud. I have been reading all day. I finished the internets!
You surfed the tubes?
Larue! Are you translating Kelly, because I need some help with that one.
Cover to cover. Ask me anything.
Even Lynyrd Skynyrd, who waved the battle flag in concerts for almost 30 years, quit using it and started flying the Stars and Bars instead, in recognition of how offensive the battle flag is to many people. Perceptions are evolving, imo.
Hi Mary, Larue:)
No argument. Neil Young may have had something to do with that.
What is the meaning of everything?
Hey Margot. What’s cookin’
I got contacted on Nov 18, interview with manager Dec 3. Phone interview with engineer on East coast Dev 7, on site Dec 13.
8 days ago they said they’re going to make an offer. I’m optimistic it will be in hand Monday or Tuesday.
forty-two.
I forgot to mention – it was the ‘Magic 8-Ball’ version of the internets…
“It is decidedly so.”
Oh, wait…
So, do you play pool?
Watch out lurk…!
All’s good here!
Yes, but only for Cheetos™.
Ok, I just can’t hang all night, nor catch up to comments.
But here’s some ear candy and eye candy . . . a band I love, that again, don’t exist no mo.
Bearfoot, From Alaska
Only the blonde was an add, and is no longer with them after a year. She (odessa) was also with my fav band of sangin gals The Biscuit Burners . . . took over from Shannon Whitworth . . . who was an original Burner Gal . . . and sang like an angel with Mary Lucey who IS the abiscuit Burners with her hubby n monster dobro player Billy Cardine.
N that’s my quarter . . . I’m likely to come back with some Biscuit Burners originals, if I can find ‘em on youtube.
Slainte Mhath!
Congrats, Margot…! ;-)
*G*
Smile n lurk pretty . . .
*G*
You really wanted that 100 again, eh…? *sheesh*
Margot! Hugs! N howdy!
Mr. Natural has the answers!
I have seen them somewhere. (w)racking brain…
What fun!
The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Hey, Margot scored!
OK, cough it up :)
Stranger in a strange land.
I’m gonna take a guess: Oy, it was good with the kosher, but always with the meat, they got a problem.
And after you gave warning and all… Lucky Lurking Mod!
Origami is the answer to everything.
Sooooo close.
whoa, what a great pick.
Really, it is. Between The Folds
I still have a crush on Leon Russell.
What a great song!
At least a full minute before even…! ;-)
And an even greater book.
I saw Leon three times in Memphis in the early 70′s. A friend of mine was his sound mixer. We got special seats.
Or the deeply disturbing typing.
I’ll stick with Mr Natural.
Yes, CTuttle gets a raise. He’s lookout-extraordinaire.
I wish I could sleep.
Heinlein was da bomb…! My fave was the ‘Number of the Beast’…! ;-)
Lucky! I may have seen Leon and Co. at the Oakland Coliseum in the 70′s, but I cannot recall (for exactly the reasons you expect).
I saw him with Joe Cocker. Lardy, it was great.
Margaret! Slide on in here!
That’s an impossibly good show.
Excellent!
I’m wicked jealous, ma’am…! ;-)
Drive by: .. damn that sounds so good, man .. vibes are still percolating here .. since Donald Sutherland just got his star on the walk of fame, it is like a done deal … :)
My dog, Suki, is snoring as loudly as Ron sometimes does.
I got kicked off a roof trying to see Leon through a bar’s air vent. back in my wild days first time I was in grad school.
tearloch7, sit a spell. Glad you made it.
**is green with envy but playing big poker and reminiscing dinna work ..**
You bad thing, you. Bless your heart.
Am flitting in and out .. money talks ya know?…good to see all the folks grooving and talking Leon ..
They were great before the blonde fiddler joined them. Odessa Jorgensen.
Then she left them . . .
N she REALLY pumped Bearfoot up.
But she left.
N don’t get me started about Biscuit Burners, with Shannon Whitworth, before Odessa Jorgensen replaced Shannon in the Burners . . . I got no youtubes of the Original Biscuit Burners, but Shannon n Mary Lucey could make harmony like sisters . . . sadly, nothing lasts no more in music . . . bands come and go.
Wish I could post music from my music library in here . . . 3 songs of Mary N Shannon sangin, with Billy’s dobro work, would slay even the most hesitant of pop oriented top 40 folks.
Real music, played with both hands, and voices that can sing bass, baritone, tenor, hi tenor and soprano.
All natural, no pinchey fx, or fancy shit.
Just pure and simple talent. Natural.
SIgh, my kind of music.
*G*
42!
Someone told me I went with him and a big group of us to see Dick Gregory speak, in about 1972. I just have no memory of it at all.
NO, that IS the translation!
Kelly is a sly one, but fun! *G*
Odessa Jorgensen! That’s the name. Thank you.
Can’t find much new about Egypt. It should be daylight there now, yes?
Damn that sounds so good .. you absolutely MUST figure a way to share that .. it is to be treasured .. music that makes ya feel that darn good …
But what is the question?
And I saw the Temptations in Knoxville.
Wayfaring Stranger!
Can.Relate.
I saw Angela Davis speak a million years ago. And then I was told by someone I attended with that it was Grace Slick.
So.Confused.
Maggie, dang ya . . . Dark Star?
*G*
Well we would know the answer if it wasn’t for the wanking Vogons.
Cairo, Egypt is GMT +2, so yeah it’s daylight on saturday.
The average age of a registered, white self-employed Rethug?..
Almost 10am.
I really think I was so young and stunned that I was away from home, getting to hear people I’d only seen on TV or read about, that it just was too much. Didn’t process it properly or something.
How do you know you exist?
I’ve Posted This Before, But It’s Worthy Again>
HP Lovecraft, from the mid to late 60;s.
Denver based.
A lead vocal dude who had a 4 octave range . . . two dudes who owned this shit. Listen to the harmony vocals.
Sigh. Music.
Morning prayers should be over now…! ;-)
I am the only one that I know exists. Pretty sure my cat does too though.
*G*
You see the latest of the furtherest galaxy’s? Hubbles last stand before the new project goes up?
Big blue stars, out there! Close to the beginning of big bang.
Epic cosmology.
Mine was the other thing, I think.
It would have been about 1970, and I was corrected in the mid-90′s.
One thing I DO know – it was at Cal.
Have NO idea to yer referent . . . but I hate most of them, too . . . ;-)
I know I exist because sometimes I get bored. Sometimes I get spacey and then I return. The ability to return proves I exist.
I saw that. Imagine a whole galaxy without any trace of metals. Pretty amazing.
Nah, THIS Dark Star!
*G*
That scene from Dark Star is too funny. There’s just something warped about a bomb with an existential crisis.
Mary Senator!
That’s a GRATEFUL DEAD song!
*G*
Howdy to Ron n critters!
*wavesfondly*
Link?
Say good night, Dick.
Good night, Dick.
Hubble. Served above and beyond.
OK, punish me for that. Go ahead.
I was drawn in to the basic article I saw . . . mesmorized.
Last thing I studied was a book in the mid 70′s while in Jr College . . .
Red Giants N White Dwarfs . . . all the science n math especially, I don’t unnerstand! *G*
Eh, Huffpo? Maybe? No gotta.
How YOU doin Ron?
There have been a few significant discoveries since then.
Good nite Dan . .
*G*
Thanks!
I guess I owe ya some chonklit . . . ;-)
No shit huh! *G*
Here’s your link
Some of the math does get a bit difficult. Christoffel symbols are not something to take lightly. Once you get the basic ideas down though it isn’t too bad – and a lot of it can be understood via general abstract nonsense.
Really, the idea of a fiber bundle, etc really does follow abstract nonsense. And to understand parallel transport…
You should bookmark the website. I look at it several times a day.
They had the shutter open and fixiated on that one spot for a hundred straight hours…! ;-)
Pretty well. I have, at least in the short term, thwarted the evil troll from the Codes dept. that has been making me miserable the last few months.
No, since they are retiring the old girl, we will call it even.
What was I thinking? Yes!
Heh, just pulled the book out.
Robert Jastrow is the author.
It was a paperback for a class then.
Subtitled “Man’s Descent From The Stars”.
With stuff from Robert Goddard, Institute . . . .*G*
Rockets!
can’t do that with a terrestrial scope except at the poles.
Lurking Mod – looks like 200 is coming up soon.
Thanks. Awesome.
I barely understand doppler shit, yer killin me . . .
*G*
WHy I am not a geek!
How can you go for 35 years without reading science? I can’t usually go thirty five minutes. :)
Amazing. And all from this little, flawed tube in space.
Watching the various repairs to Hubble was tremendous. Watching the results has been better.
No prob. :)
I hate trolls . . . on the job or in here . . . *G*
Standing down for a while…
You guys take it away!
General abstract nonsense would be a good title for an album. Somehow I don’t see it as a band name.
Yep. Pretty incredible stuff. Just hoping that the Webb’s budget doesn’t get butchered, though I’m not confident. :(
Cuz I am not a geek.
I am a com studies dude . . . and a lousy engineer in broadcasting.
Or I’d be working today.
*G*
I’m too sleepy to sit here and type but too wound up to sleep. Think I’ll lay down though. Might be back. Oya.
Hmph! And I’m thinking that I might be working if I wasn’t a geek.
Heh, to you and Margaret . . .
I shoulda been a musician!
Fiwer!
*G*
I’m going to sleep soon. Bit of music before I leave.
What are any of us gonna do Maggie, other n . . . well, you know.
;-)
Merlot?
It is unimaginable to me that we have reduced the program(s) to a piddling.
History will not be kind to us for that.
Gemini’s optics are far crisper and cleaner, but, they only have a 8-10 hr span to work with…!
Final Muppets for the evening…
Agreed . . . in full.
LeSigh.
Excellent!
But I will miss the old girl.
Good night, Margaret. Hope you can snooze.
Sure, it is romantic to think that the one thing the US did spectacularly well, that led to amazing discoveries, would continue.
But to see it degrade into a budget line item – hard to stomach.
Peace be upon you … :)
Mahalo, Lurk…! Another awesome job…! I bid ya’ll a fond adieu…! *g*
Well thank you, sir.
See you soon.
We gone, too . . . best to all Pups, and salutations to The Jasmone’s In Progress!
N thanks For Lurk for sittin in . . . *bows*
*poof*
Good night, Larue. My pleasure.
It has been a blast sitting in the Big Chair, visiting with you guys this evening. Thank you all.
Now, back to my regular post.
Suzanne – as always – Thank You.

Good morning, pups. It’s just Blow and Collins since Mr. Herbert is off today. Mr. Blow, in “Hard-Knock (Hardly Acknowledged) Life,” says one part of President Obama’s State of the Union made a bit of history: his failure to mention poverty or the poor. Ms. Collins, in “Don’t Know Much About History,” says not just anybody switches political parties over a historical novel, but Michele Bachmann did. Figures. The woman’s a moron.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup. We’re glad to have the webz back — our router died yesterday and had to be replaced. Hi, my name is Marion and I’m an internet addict… Have a great day.
