John Galt would be outraged at his complacency and dependence.
Here’s what fiscal fraud Paul Ryan (R-WI) said about Social Security in his State of the Union rebuttal.
This is a future in which we will transform our social safety net into a hammock, which lulls able-bodied people into lives of complacency and dependency.
Turns out, when Ryan was an able-bodied young lad, he used that hammock to pay for his college education. (h/t Gottalaff)
On the day Paul Davis Ryan was born in 1970, President Richard Nixon unveiled his record-setting $200.8 billion federal budget proposal for the upcoming year – a budget that included a large increase in Social Security payments. [...]
One day as a 16 year old, Ryan came upon the lifeless body of his father. Paul Ryan, Sr. had died of a heart attack at age 55, leaving the Janesville Craig High School 10th grader, his three older brothers and sisters and his mother alone. It was Paul who told the family of his father’s death. [...]
With his father’s passing, young Paul collected Social Security benefits until age 18, which he put away for college.
College costs have skyrocketed since Ryan entered Miami University in 1988, yet Ryan wants to slash the very system that he benefited from because it produces “dependency.”
Figures. This is a guy who requires his staffers to read Atlas Shrugged, and we now know that Ayn Rand was a big welfare queen herself.

If anyone needs a safety net, it’s the libertarians.

Always the hypocrites these jerks! I’m soooooooooooooo tired of being lectured to by these retards.
These are some pretty scary times. The top 2% just got $300 Billion and our Government is full of insane Tea Partiers and an equally insane Republican House majority. They’re now going after everything, as they know Obama rolls over like a dog on virtually everything. Imagine if the GOP pulls of what it’s trying to do, the US will be done very, very quickly. This guy has the same glazed over look as Boehner and Cantor.
I feel badly about the young Ryan discovering his father like that. It’s sad and I don’t wish that on anyone especially a 16 year old boy. I don’t know what happened to that kid over the years because right now he comes across as a tad callous towards people who are less fortunate in life.
Just another Right Wingnut kook who is also a big Hypocrite… I know IOKIYAR but ya gotta call them out for such hypocrisy…
Social Security is mainly for people who have reached retirement age after having worked forty to fifty years.
I would think that would justify them lazing around in a hammock.
Guess Ryan wants us all to drop dead on the job instead.
But of course then They can use the money we paid in for all those 40-50 years for “Other” purposes, like Wall Street, couldn’t they use More money to gamble with..
His father paid for this benefit.
Should teenager Paul and his siblings have forfeited this death benefit?
As far as I have seen, Ryan has not advocted getting rid of this benefit, nor of Social Security, which has been raided by both parties for the past decades.
Let’s be fair.
I had lost both my parents by the age of 17. I was fortunate to qualify for Social Security and Veterans’ benefits (my dad was a disabled WWII vet) to attend college. I would not have been able to go were it not for those two programs. For Paul Ryan to consider cuts to the very programs from which he benefited is political cannibalism. Does he also eat his young? How do a$$holes like this get elected?
Let’s make it simpler: Assholes versus Not Assholes.
Fixed it, Rep.
DouchebagRyan.Ryan, another gooper ,ive got mine….you all STFU
If you’re not a flaming hypocrite, you just can’t be a real Republican…
Let me start by saying that when I worked full time for So Many years, while I was also raising three children and running the house, I might add, I used to espouse my opinion that I wasn’t sure if SS would still be in place by the time I would need it. I also would say that I was glad that the portion that I contributed to SS was, at least, paying for my dad’s checks. My dad, who survived WWII, worked his butt off for his family, who lost his retirement funds in the Lincoln Savings disaster, and who left me nothing but great memories when he died.
Now, I have no savings. Little equity in my house, at this particular time.
BT, I’m pretty sure you saw my posts about needing to get a job now to help pay for some of my son’s college tuition. One and one-half years from now, but, hey why wait until the last minute? /big S
My friends at the Lake don’t hear me say this very often, but Fuck Ryan and His MFing Hammock. God’ll get him for this. (In my best Maude imitation.)
Can we send Paul Ryan to Egypt?
Did we expect anything different? Major dick.
Requiring Staffers to read Atlas Shrugged, though, that surprises even me. My god that amounts to hazing.
Perhaps we should compile a collection of reality-based books and send them to Paul Ryan and his staff for reading.
I suggest we start with Grapes of Wrath.
Great point. Let’s not begrudge anyone for a benefit he is entitled to.
I think we should forward this to Chuck Schumer. He’d definitely call Ryan out. Let’s make a list of all our “friends” across the aisle and explain to them how they actually benefitted from this kind of help.
This is too funny!!
Nickled & Dimed would be a good start too.
Earlier in the rebuttal he admits a safety net is required for those in need.
Ryan would make an interesting subject for an enterprising journalist who wanted to report on how once reasonable people transform into teatards.
Why forward this to someone who’s already called him out? I don’t get it.
Time to get my Big Girl Garden Panties on and start digging in the dirt.
The garden usually helps me feel better.
Just wanted to swing by BT’s 10:30….but, I’ll see y’all later. At some point.
His father paid into Social Security, as we all do, and it greatly benefited him personally.
Now he’s saying everyone else needs to accept less than he did, while making the moral argument that Social Security is making people shiftless and lazy.
Not sure why that’s complicated.
I’ll say it again: Facts and reality have always been the antithesis of conservative thought. Plus, conservatives deserve those things while those awful lazy brown and/or non conservative people obviously do not.
It gets much more difficult to understand if you’re in the habit of voting for these assholes.
well, excuuuuuuse meeeee! :)
I’m still catching up. thanks for letting me know. I assumed that if it was posted here like new news, then no one had called him out on it.
But Ryan begrudges you the benefits he got. This isn’t touchy feeley time. It’s not about “begrudging” him anything, it’s about his rank hypocrisy.
??? Dude.
Loved your Ayn Rand post…esp about “no compromise”. hahahaha!
Well, the wingers really are following her playbook to the letter, if they collect then say no one else can.
Ryan, as well as Jeb Hensarling are the types of dicks we need to worry about from about 2016 on. They come across as reasonable, telegenic men to the average uneducated voter. If they’re smart enough to keep their distance from the new Teabagger Caucus they’ll be a major threat as possible POTUS candidates.
I am no longer surprised when I see something like this….I expect all conservatives to be flaming hypocrites. Just as they have rules for everyone but themselves, they are against things for everyone that THEY are allowed to do–homosexuality, welfare, social security, Medicare, government subsidies, etc.
Now, whenever I hear a conservative is against something, I KNOW he or she is collecting it, doing it, receiving it for themselves.
Ryan is the one doing the begrudging. He’s saying SS makes people lazy.
What about personal responsibility? Didn’t Ryan’s father save enough to send him to college? He died just a couple of years before Ryan was set to go, so the college fund should have been pretty fat. Also, what about life insurance? Didn’t his father have enough to pay off all his debts & send his kids to college?
It seems to me, if his father was a responsible person, Ryan would have had no need for SS. If his father was not responsible, shouldn’t his family pay the price, not the U.S. taxpayer, according to Ryan’s philosophy.
I guess the old axiomatic anagram is still true: IOKIYAR.
Maybe Ryan’s onto something…he is becoming a lazy thinker.
Yes, it’s very primal. I get the goodies, you don’t.
Yeah, really. Why should I be forced to pay for Ryan’s college education?
Serfdom!
Leave me hanging, babes. Leave me hanging.
Because she took a government check, she’s a big welfare queen?
Harsh.
Another selfish “leader” who doesn’t give a damn about the quality of life of the folks he supposedly represents. What we are seeing today in Egypt is what democracy looks like. What we see in the US—and Ryan is just one example—is what a broken democracy looks like. Is Ryan not currently on the public teat? Where does the money come from that pays his salary? Who are these people, these Ryans, that our culture produces? What is it about our system that results in people like this ending up in positions of “leadership”?
There is always a whiff of racism detected in all their comments. Ryan probably had to bite his tongue to keep himself from saying ‘while eating watermelon’ in the hammock.
Yes, it is, isn’t?
And a hypocrite.
Great choice… But do you really think they will read them?? More likely they will hit the trash can faster than you can say boo…
Glorious. Your posts make me a happy man.
BTW, al Jazeera is broadcasting live from Egypt. Almost continuous coverage, i.e., almost no other stories being covered & very few commercials.
These facist fucking pigs will burn them.
In this case, It’s OK If You’re A Ryan.
Probably had to use his government provided health insurance to fix the hole in his tongue….
Well, you know…..
I posted a link which didn’t take.
I’ll try again.
IOKIYARR?
Link.
Sorry. My bad.
Nope but she was definitely an enormous hypocrite. And she never hesitated in calling other Social Security recipients welfare queens and other less fortunate names.
Yup. The working cultural understanding of public money in the US is that if you are white and receive public funds, then at least it is called subsidy, at best it is considered money put to productive use. If you are brown, those funds are called welfare.
Just trying to keep abreast of the obvious.
Excellent point. You said it much more concisely than I could have.
Too bad his insurance doesn’t cover filling the cavity in his frontal lobe.
Life can be cruel, and when you’re as big a fucking hypocrite as Ayn Rand was, you pretty much deserve it.
Hehe. aBreast. Hehe.
Maybe he can stuff all the money he gets from lobbyists in there.
The last time I said that to a man, it was exactly in that context. And, it was many years ago at the studio. And, yes, I did get roses, later.
Dude. You’re online.
re: dakine01..
Uh yeah, Alan Grayson said it cogently: die quickly. That’s what they’re hoping for, a die-off. I wouldn’t be surprised if they conspired to accelerate such a phenomenon by ultimately appealing to the rightwing of the military to seize control and suspend congress. They want a christianist theocracy.
The oligarchy is already being set up. Their rhetoric is increasingly demonizing, and that’s exactly how the Sturmabteilung operated in the early 30s in Germany. By treating your enemy as an other, it’s easier to justify eliminating them.
They never let mere facts get in the way of their lies and dissembling. To them, anyone who points out their errors is just an elitist (huh? apparently meaning anyone w/a modicum of education, although most, if not all of these right wing congresspersons are college grads). We’re probably heading toward a civil war. If these guys succeed in establishing their austerity program (refer to Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine?, the civil unrest that will be generated will be just the justification they want to use to get control. And lest this seems a paranoic delusion, remember that it has happened numerous times in other countries in the recent era. It has to be obvious by now that WE’RE NOT IMMUNE, as we used to think we were. Remember the novel “The Handmaid’s Tale….”, by Margaret Atwood, which was written in the Reagan era, and recall the adoration which these folks have for Reagan, even though he was liberal, by any comparison to them.
I’m also a 26 year old kid. I can cut up every once in a while, right?
Yet he espouses “Privatizing SS” which would be giving the Banksters Our money to gamble and loose, unlike the current system in which you have a guarantee that you will get your money. If SS had been privatized like GWB wanted just think how many seniors would now be getting nothing from SS after this little hiccup in our economy… No fucking way leave my SS alone Tax the fucking rich at 90% first and charge them the full percentage on all their earnings not just the first 106k… Just another screwing we got from the right WingNuts… Or why not MAKE every Corporation pay at least 20% tax on the Gross profits. None of these write offs so they, as currently codified, pay 0 Nada nothing in Federal Income tax…
Thats right it is WINTER after all…
The article above doesn’t call her a hypocrite. And comment #44 seems to double down.
She took $11,000 in SS retirement funds and according to the last line of this article, she’s a big welfare queen.
I still think it’s harsh.
Ehrenreich is good, alright. Maybe we get Hammock Boy to climb down and do the Nickel and Dimed thing. I’m guessing he’d last about an hour, including breaks and lunch.
Right wing, authoritarian social dominator, I suspect.
Oh, Kris.
Anyone on government assistance is a lazy welfare queen, according to conservatives. Just playing by their rules.
Over at Boing Boing they have a post to the earlier story about Ayn Rand
“Ayn Rand took government assistance while decrying others who did the same”
It’s interesting to read the comments there. I just figured out that the the Randians are posting as if they are not. The formula starts the same as the political posts from a conservative. I’m a life long Democrat but I think …
Notice the pattern.
I don’t agree with Ayn, and doing this under a pseudonym is certainly dishonest, but I wholeheartedly reject the notion that if you disagree with the system in place you can’t participate.
I’m not big on Rand, but this argument doesn’t hold water….
As much as I despise Rand and her philosophy, I have to agree with you here. Is she a hypocrite? Yes. Does this necessarily disprove her theories? No.
Attacking the messenger is always popular, and easy, but usually only serves as a distraction from the real argument.
Cutting up is pretty much mandatory…at least that’s what I thought when spending the balance of my formative years in the principal’s office.
Better to fill it with gold. The US dollar probably won’t be worth much when his handlers eventually lose interest in him.
Greetings from Bogotá.
That’s irrelevant.
Hypocrite:
1. : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings
— hypocrite adjective
She fit the definition and was, therefore, a hypocrite. Period.
Yuk it up, funny boys. *g*
Just remember, *someone’s* watching.
He wasn’t talking about SS with the hammock comment, although he is suggesting SS needs to be changed, not slashed. there are many ways SS could be fixed so it doesn’t run out of money. (remove the cap from the tax, or change the retirement age to 68 or both). As a government we need to focus on getting people to work in the private sector, not government jobs. we can do this through Education, and Job training programs. President Obama made some good points on Education. We can’t afford to raise taxes, this spending will have to come from cuts to other programs. Mr Ryan is going to write a budget that reduces spending, but he should make sure there is money for Job training, that’s our number 1 priority!
Oh Noes! The Lurking Mod!
Bingo. Never mind the $Gazillions in bailouts, tax subsidies, etc. It’s always about: “Privatize Gains, Socialize Losses, and let the “little people” scrap over whatever’s left.”
It’s OK. It all trickles down, right?
Who the Fuck cares about what You think??
You remind me of the Tinman… Empty hearted except for when it concerns the rich…
And Ayn Ryand was a hypocrite because she railed against SS and Medicare constantly yet she and her partner received it all the while putting down others Who also NEEDED the Safety NET just to stay alive!!
How old are you?
Now, now, Peg. Listen to this.
Sorry for the long applause intro. Move your arrow to the right and enjoy.
Hell, I had my own wing in the principal’s office. *g*
Not who I was thinking about. Not at all.
Hey! Paul Ryan’s spokesperson is here! Thanks you for your opinion. Have you actually paid attention to anything he’s said for the last decade or so?
Ahh, I miss the tinman.
I think alan is more just argumentative than anything. It seems that almost any stance the site takes on an issue, he’s got an alternative argument. I’m not sure alan even believes these arguments. I think alan just argues for the sake of arguing.
David Dayen has a fresh cross-post ready: Clinton “Deeply Concerned” About Violence in Egypt, Supports Human Rights of Protesters
You were supposed to follow the link to yesterday’s post in which BT explained what a monstrous hypocrite Rand was.
Harsh? Fine. I still say she deserves it.
yes to be fair, Ryan didnt really explain what he meant by a “hammock that lulls people, which is farily typical of speeches about “responsibility” from clowns like paul ryan. We can be sure that the “hamock” is not the trillions of dollars of tax breaks cash and subsidies to the defense, energy and factory farm agruculture industries, and that the “hammock” is the tiny payments and services provided to poor and wroking people.
I’m down for removing the withholding cap altogether, but raising the retirement age? No way, no how. This discussion is all academic, anyway. The Wall Street crowd and their puppets in Congress are only interested in one thing: taking the fund private so they can skim off enormous fees, and gamble with the principle. That’s the game, make no mistake about it. The talk is just window-dressing and bullshit.
Wow what a surprise. A government hack, pretending to be part of a populist movement, wanting to chop all the social programs that he himself used. I’m shocked. Would this be anything like the rest of these Congressional idiots, sending all their bills to the taxpayer, even though they are multimillionaires? How much have taxpayers paid for these shills, both Dem and Rep? What was the cost of ultrarich Pelosi’s taxpayer tabs? Boehner? McCain? Obomba? All filthy rich, but still billing the taxpayers for their gum and paper. To find out they used gov’t programs is of no shock whatsoever.
Probably true, but hey sometimes such cold heartedness gets to my better self…
I saw Pat Benatar in the Agora ballroom in Houston one Friday night and the place was virtually empty. I went back to see her Saturday night and I couldn’t get in. Word spread that fast.
I don’t have any problem with someone calling her that.
But according to the words in the article above and at #72, anyone on government assistance is a lazy welfare queen.
Although now he’d like to deflect and add “according to conservatives. Just playing by their rules.”
Seems like calling someone who takes a government check a big welfare queen and then distancing from the direct statement that’s still in print above is, you know, a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.
alan1tx is brighter than tinman and usually rational but there are some subjects that are especially raw with him. I guess Ayn Rand is one of them. Or maybe it’s Paul Ryan and Randians in general.
She’s so hot. I had a cd once that I worked out to, in my bedroom. And, no not on my back. Like with weights and all. It was Pat and Debbie Harry on the same disk. Chicks rule! Well, some of them, anyway.
Would you like some cheese with that whine or is it bad enough to call a waaaahmbulance for you?
Now you’re just ignoring context. I’m through with you.
She was wearing a cheerleader outfit on that tour and all of the men and I expect at least half of the women in that place had it bad for her….including me. :D
Really… are we surprised here at FDL. What really bothers me is that we know what a bunch of hypocrits walk the halls of congress and those who represent us should be bringing this up on the House and Senate floor when a vote on entitlements is up for a vote.
Shultz, Maddow, O’Donnell, the nightly news people, any of them who support entitlements should be reporting on this because when I go to work tomorrow, not one of my co-workers will know anything about this tomorrow or 6 months from now.
:)!!! Isn’t it fun?
Ta ta, for now.
Both great singers… J sings some of their songs and Linda Ronstadt’s… they are great!!
Laters!
Figures. I seriously doubt that anyone who posts here regularly will argue with weenie Ryan’s right to use his dad’s Soc Sec to put himself through college. I certainly don’t *begrudge him* for doing that.
But what I take from Ryan’s speechifying is that HE *begrudges me* for taking the Soc Sec that I paid into for the past umpteen years when I choose to retire. It’s now being called a “welfare entitlement” by many on the right. Perhaps Ryan, himself, has never used that exact terminology, but what I take from his “hammock” reference is pretty much just that.
Ryan got HIS, I can go get EFFED.
Ryan is a hypocrit at *best,* and a bald-faced lying theiving scumbag at worst. Anymore, stating the obvious IOIYAR just isn’t a strong enough statement. I’m sick unto death of theiving lying CROOKS like pasty weenie Ryan sticking his nose into the my money and having the brass iron balls to tell me that I don’t *deserve* it.
Screw that shit.
Power to the people! Truth is truth, facts are fact. This rigthwing spoogebucket is fracking LIAR. I’m sick of it. And weenie weaseling bending of the “factoids” to fit some kind of conservative talking point is just more bull shit. The end.
ptoui!!!!
(((honey))
But you’ll find no quote of mine suggesting we cut SS.
I just don’t think calling people big welfare queens is right, no matter who they are.
But I know how much you care what I think.
I’ll leave you all alone now.
Hey, did anyone drug test him to make sure he was qualified for this socialistic program?
Take care demi

“Spoogebucket”? I think you’ve probably scandalized some people here. :D
As a point of fact Ryan should have recieved the benefit until he graduated from college. I received the survivors benefit through college ending in 73.
The amounts as I recall, perhaps incorrectly. $44/month in 67 and around $100 in 73.

Hey Peg We do share here at the Lake don’t we???
Hows the job front??
Geez, Margaret, you *really* don’t want me to “tell us how I really feel”!!!! The lurking mod would have to get combat pay for that one.
heh… yeah: I’m getting really “chapped” by this rightwing talk about taking away what I’ve *earned & saved,* all whilst being lectured to by creeps, crooks, liars, hypocrits, fools, toadies, assholes and jerks. Just looking at creepy Ryan’s photo makes me want to hurl (eg, blow chunks, have a technicolor yawn, pray to the porecelin god, ralph, etc), and reading his pathetic “word salad” makes me see red & have steam eminate from my ears.
The nerve of these dickless wonders!
Bleak, I’m sorry to say…. :/
Your Dad earned that for you and no one here would ever begrudge anyone for receiving that which has been earned, especially a surviving child of a War Vet… They put their lives on the line for all of us including all the Right Wing Crazies…
Singing lunch? Talking to the toilet?
Why do I think of Eddie Munster when I see a picture of Paul Ryan?
Damn and I am starting to hear on the local NEWS better things out here on the job front, even with the 12% + unemployed here in the Valley.
Long long ago & far far away I lived downundah. Just like the Eskimos are alleged to have a 100 words or more to describe snow, the Aussies have a 100 words or more to describe spewing… usually after bending an elbow with many schooners of beee-ah….
LOL… thanks! I needed that laugh.
btw, did you check out that GoodYear stock?? what’s the word?
She took $11,000 from SS and presumably stopped receiving money in early 1982, 29 years ago, when she died. That’s 11,000 pre-1982 dollars.
Yeah, things are showing signs of loosening up here too. I’m still fifty though.
BECAUSE!!
Oh that. The word is that my brother sold all of the bearer stocks and bonds years ago. The Goodyear shares must have been among them.
Yeah, that’s what National Lampoon said too. I stole “singing lunch” from them.
You can get a good job, anyway. I know it’s tough but think positively and don’t focus, yourself, so much on your age (your mind is powerful, as I’m sure you know).
Oh I know that issue from back in 2001 in the last bust. IT out here died and has never came back, glad I made it to SS at 62… Saving our asses but just barely…
Damn! Sorry to hear that.
heh… yeah, that’s a good one; hadn’t heard it in a while. brings back some amusing memories, actually.
gotta go… back to the grind, but don’t let the bastards grind ya down, my friends!! TGIF and all that folderol…
I think I still have that issue, along with the Work issue and the Olympics issue. Those were the only ones that survived the flood in 1985.
I’d be careful about postulating that, particularly here at the Lake. There are a lot of us here with long time Democratic bona-fides who are livid over the treachery and betrayal of Obama and party leaders to traditional Dem party principles and platforms, and policies. And just as a clock that’s stopped is still right twice a day, conservatives — even Tea Party types — occasionally are correct about something. (Audit The Fed being a case in point. Grover Norquist’s opposition to the Afghan war being another.)
There’s also the phenomenon of being against a bad thing for the wrong reasons. If the Dems are against “Bad Project A” for one reason, and conservatives are against “Bad Project A” for other reasons, what the fuck difference does it make as long as “Bad Project A” gets reformed, repealed, fixed, etc?
Yes, where is the Tinman? Has he been banned, just wandered away, is he lurking but not posting?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I think that ended by the time Ryan entered college – my ex went all the way thru on survivor’s benefits – father died when he was nine – but that was ’65-69.
Sometime in the ’80′s, IIRC, rules changed, bens for children ended at 18. So Ryan probably was after that change.
You are making quite an assumption when you say that the father “paid” for the son’s benefit.
I have personal knowledge of a case where the father of two twin boys died when the kids were infants. The twins received the fathers’ death benefit from SS although the father had paid very little or nothing into SS. Maybe there is an expert out there who can comment, but I believe the death benefit is paid to the children regardless of whether the parent (or parents) paid in to the system.
Further, I question the implication that Ryan’s benefits ceased when he turned 18. Again, maybe there is an expert out there who can comment, but I believe the death benefit is paid as long as the child is a full-time student, which means likely continued to receive benefits through his early 20s.
Did you really think he was telegenic? I thought he was smarmy and after about 3 minutes of that sing-song voice, I thought he was totally insincere. If he’s the best they got…
I wish I could watch it. It keeps crashing. too much traffic maybe
Not currently an expert, and haven’t looked itup – but some xperience w/ SS srvivor bens – see my 136. Law or regs changed.
When the State steals money from your family and also monopolizes services, you are completely justified to use those services even though you oppose the theft and monopoly.
Now get back out there and round up your quota of poor black kids to sell to the educrats unions for campaign contributions for your genocidal Democratic Party.
From Social Security website on Survivors benefits:
No mention here of course, of previous more extensive bens. Also no mention of exception for college students – explicitly states eligible if in “elementary or secondary school.” That means college does not extend age.
my 141 was a response to yours at 137. Don’t have the exact date of the change, but it has been quite awhile.
At the time, Ryan was able to collect survivor benefits until age 21 (and it may still be so today), so the original article is somewhat incomplete. He didn’t have to “save” the SS payments, those payments continued throughout his college years.
This dovetails nicely with the revelation yesterday that Princess Ayn also collected Social Security and Medicare. None of them have the courage of their convictions…
What are you basing that statement on? I mean, it’s not a big deal, except I like facts, and the facts I’ve found differ from your statement.
I just made a search looking for the date of the change, but couldn’t turn it up. If you have a cite for that timeline, “to age 21″ I’d like to see it. I’m always looking to improve my search skills.
Srsly.
Oh, but “(and it may still be so today),” is clearly not correct; see my 141, direct quote from Social Security website. So where is your info from re: to age 21?
Yeah your right….I was just thinking the same thing.
hey…..I think I figured you out…..your really looking for “headedWest” right? He/She “slithers” in here now and then on the way to the Fox News web site…….if you hurry you can catch him/her.
Ick!
I collected similar SS benefits while I was in school, and was damned glad to have it.
Knowing that I have even this much in common with Ryan makes me want to take a shower.
Oh come on, just come right out with the “Troll” label. Yep, you’ve got me all figured out.
I only suggested that calling people who take government checks big welfare queens might be a little rude, especially since many of us have done it.
I never said calling Rand a hypocrite was wrong.
Anyway, have a good weekend.
I don’t think you’re a troll; I just think your quite frequently wrong on the issues.
You do realize that Ayn Rand called those who would benefit in any way from a collective benefit “looters” and “moochers” right?
So while admittedly Rand was hypocritical, don’t you think those terms are just as harsh, maybe even more than “welfare queen?”
Before you advocate raising the retirement age, try talking to some people who are over 55 and trying to get a job. It is close to impossible. I can command $22/hr temping for a multi-national medical supplies manufacturer, so I think you’ll agree my skills are probably marketable, but in 2 years of looking and sending out hundreds of resumes, I have not been (so far as I can tell) seriously considered for a permanent job anywhere I have applied. I’m one of the lucky ones who can at least land a part-time temporary gig. Raising the retirement age will only leave people hanging longer in the limbo between being marketable and being able to collect social security.
My brother and I received death benefits (from 1954-early 70′s) until we finished college as long as we were full-time students. We both had part-time jobs, and there was a maximum we could earn before benefits were reduced.
It’s worse than rude: it’s racist.
Another St Ronnie Gift…
And not only racist: a lie! Ronnie really hit it out of the park on that one.
just like he threw out mental patients on the street when he was Gov… Hmmm reminds me some some South Western State Gov who’s policies have already KILLED patients… what is her name??
I agree they are hypocrites. I also want to say that as a parent of an intellectually disabled child, I feel disgust everytime any person uses the word ***ard.
This is the first time I am submitting a comment. I would like to submit it as stated.
For god’s sake Atlas Shrugged was a satire.
Those standing on top of the world don’t hold it up. Any moron knows labor creates wealth.
Christ Rand herself was from a working class family.
!!!
Egad.
She wasn’t even that good a writer for crap’s sake. Bad fiction makes even worse economic policy.
Christ on a bicycle… I feel like I’m in a Twilight Zone episode.
Johnny H Galt, I’ve heard it all now.
On the one hand, you can empathize with the little Socialist shitbag. Anyone who has lost a loved one, especially at a young age, can.
But if he thinks Dagny would even look twice, let alone give up the goodies for his freeloading commie ass, then we didn’t read the same book.
Seriously, smiley, either live the *entire* dream or STFU.
“and to help provide a safety net for those who cannot provide for themselves” sorry Mr. Ryan the Constitution is written as, “promote the general welfare” f*&king idiot Ryan misquoting the Constitution to support his dogma.
I suspect they think the retirement age is 62. i have news for them: you can collect partial SS benefits if you retire at 62, but the only way you can collect full SS benefits is to retire at 67. (And that assumes you still have a paying job, which is increasingly unlikely.)
