Meanwhile, I still can’t believe CNN covered the Bachmann train wreck.
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann didn’t deliver the official Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address, but it was her speech that had the world of politics and media buzzing Wednesday.
Bachmann’s rebuttal message, hosted by the Tea Party Express, drew less attention for its substance than for CNN’s decision to air it live.
Some media watchers criticized CNN for being the only network to do that, and they raised questions about a potential conflict of interest: CNN is partnering with the Tea Party Express to produce a Republican presidential candidates’ debate this fall.
“I can’t figure how you can partner with a political action committee and claim to be neutral,” says Kelly McBride, who teaches media ethics at the Poynter Institute, a journalism training center.

About Firedoglake
Greetings from Lima, where folks have other things on their minds besides guns, bloodshed, torture, and extortion.
Seems odd that in his SOTU, POTUS failed to boast that of the 700 slaughtered by his authorized drone strikes, five suspected bad guys were actually killed.
I’m think cnn want to make itself attractive to murdoc
think of the coup, murdoc would claim he owned “liberal stations” as well as fox and cnn principles would be able to live like kings
win win
Israelis playing nice with its neighbors.
Good morning. Happy National Chocolate Cake Day!
CNN has been trying to outFOX FOX for years now. Nancy Grace, Glenn Beck and now Erick Erickson who apparently can’t say anything too
controversialwingnutty for them, just to name a few. They want to jump Murdoch’s claim to the crazy right wing. Now that is something I can support!
Mornin’, BT, pups
CNN has fallen quite a distance since the days of the likes of Aaron Brown.
When’s the last time you had a chocolate cake that didn’t come out of a box? Store bought don’t count.
It’s chocolate cake day? Imagine the possibilities…
hey margaret, I can’t cook but I can visit!
Driving to central Texas just for my chocolate cake is probably going to leave you disappointed. ;)
seriously, cnn is now obviously taking koch money, expect more of this as they get more and more support from the koch brothers
I don’t think I could possibly be disappointed meeting you margartet
I can’t visit, but I can cook!
off to dig out some snow, see all on the other side of my heart attack
on my way!
We’ll take Margaret a cake!
Heh, me too but I’ve never tried to make a cake. Co-worker makes a killer chocolate mousse, though. That sucker’ll make yer teeth sing.
I think it was back in November at my niece’s b’day party.
Sounds to me like Sir Allen Stanford has helped enrich U.S. District Judge David Hittner.
Awww. In that case, I’ll endeavor to make the best cake that I can!
Morning Pupple,
I think I caught all the relevant POTUS theater in WI yesterday. While applauding the initiative of the small manufacturing at Manitowoc started by one person now employing 250 with an additional 50 employees expected to be hired this year, we have a Red-state legislature that passed and will be signed into law today, limiting tort remedies and putting a new layer of regulation on professional witnesses being allowed to testify in liability actions. Basically expert witnesses will be approved or disapproved by the court before they are allowed to testify, giving them another task to divert them from their existing caseloads. With all that protection from responsibility for big business, prices should be dramatically lower. /s
Next up will be WI governor Walker’s payback to the real estate merchants by effecting the toughest wind siting regulations in the nation for Wisconsin at the same time he is potentially opening 1.6 million acres of small wetlands throughout the state for development starting with a small parcel in NE WI for one of his campaign contributors.
I inherited a Kitchenaid Mixer & it has seems a shame to let it sit idle, so I have expanded my culinary horizons. It is a shame that my old age has prompted me to remain on a perpetual diet!
I dunno, sounds like he’s playin’ it by the book.
I’m still in the mixing bowl/wooden spoon era. Make the best cornbread around, though.
Chocolate Cake and Aaron Brown. Now we’re talking.
I wonder what Mr. Brown’s up to these days. I used to love it when he read the newspapers.
I can’t remember the last time I had made from scratch cake of any type.
I made a German Chocolate Cake last week. From a box, though.
From Wiki. 9/11 was his first day on air at CNN.

What do you suppose would be the chances of you or I being found incompetent to stand trial based on traumatic brain injury, (which apparently didn’t keep him from functioning perfectly well prior to his arrest), depression and addiction to anti anxiety medication? Whether or not he actually suffers from these conditions is irrelevant because we couldn’t afford a lawyer that could pull that off. “Justice” in this country is like health care: A privilege reserved for those who can afford it.
Why, thanks, SD. You made it easy for me.
Now that sounds like a challenge. In fact on Saturday I’m making my world famous jalapeno cornbread.
heading typo: response
I stick to the old southern recipe. No jalapenos and no sugar. If I’m making it for mostly yankees I use flour and corn meal. For southerners I use only corn meal. Cornbread, black eyed peas and collard greens. Makin’ myself hungary.
It is also International Day of Commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust.

Miss ya’ already….:)
Yeah but here, cornbread, as in most things, contains a nod to our south of the border friends.
Maybe, but I sure like mine without Jalap’s and Im a native.
She says jalapenos, you say no jalapenos. Let’s call the whole thing off. With apologies to Mr. Porter.
No, SHE says NO…..How are you? We may really warm up here today…after many too cold days.
Fixed it for ya, BT.
I have a job interview late this morning. Fund raising for Women’s Rights and I received an email response to another job ad a replied to. That one sounds a little funky. Working from home as a personal assistant to a woman who travels a lot. She asked me my age, which is a no no, but I’m not going to make that a deal breaker in the beginning. Also, she gave me job duties but no details about her business. But, she said she was impressed with my resume and wants me to start on a trial basis starting this weekend. I wrote her back with questions to the nature of …blah blah. I also told her I’d like at least one face to face before I make up my mind. I told her I was in my 50′s. Didn’t say the tail end of. Ha. We’ll see what she says. Hmmmmm.
Very interesting and good luck….The women’s rights things looks interesting; would you be an asst or doing the fundraising?
Dunno. The meeting’s at 11:00. I’ll let you know. It’s so hard to tell about what employers/organizations really want until one gets to the meeting. The other situation could be very good too, if it’s for real. Would be 300/week, part time, from home. We shall wait. And, we shall see.
Yeah, they both look interesting….and definite benefits from not fulltime. Just let us know;)
CNN is clinging to relevancy by a proverbial thread. They have made a slew of dumb programming decisions and have no editorial direction moving forward. But if they are hanging their success on the coattails of Michelle Bachmann and the “Tea Party Express,” they are in far worse shape than I imagined.
http://www.sunstateactivist.org
I would rather be able to see Bachmann’s “response”, because it is important to know what’s going on out there…she is influential among some people. It is important to see what you might not want to see…I don’t want to be spoon-fed what some media decide I “should” hear. Ignoring these people does not make them go away. JMHO
In part, I agree with you in terms of giving these people a “forum,” as it were. Yet CNN is, as indicated, just another bought off Oligarchic mouthpiece with bullshit programming trying to out-nutcase Murdoch’s deathstar empire. The Tea Party now represents almost nothing of any substance, as it’s a wholely owned subsidiary of Koch Industries. Hence, whatever ravings that eminated from Bachmann’s botoxed lips really don’t amount to a hill of a beans. David Koch is the man behind the curtain, so more to the point: What is HE doing??? I can say one thing: David Koch is *funding* a tremendous amount of mainstream media content. Bachmann is just one of his bought-off lunatics paid to pander to the nutbar fringe in order to *distract* them from how much Koch is ripping them off.
For a while now, MSNBC and CNN have been locked in battle to decide which one of them sucks less.
MSNBC punched themselves in the face last week.
Now they both suck about equally again (though I find MSNBC slightly less watchable lately).
The battle to suck less continues…
Thank you. What we have are media outlets that represents political parties,& political parties that don’t represent the people. We all know they work for the corporations & super wealthy.
They all suck.
I guess expectation are pretty low for o stou when you compare it to the repugs response. I always watched Rachel before, probably because she come on after Keith , but I had to turn her off last night, when she said that o stou was bringing us back to the real center, that’s bullshit, I done with all these so called liberals pundits cheer leading for this administration. I think one of the real test for these so called liberal pundits is to see if they will go after corporate America.
I was going to go with “The Most Busted Name In News.”
But, doesn’t covering Bachmann’s paranoid and unfocused narrative expose her more for what she is? After all, the more folks see or hear from the Quitter, the more she sinks in popularity. CNN may have done the country a favor by covering Bachmann’s TurnerDiaries in Overdrive.
we can carpool
Dammit, why didn’t you warn me that I would have to be subject to Obama’s fraudulent rhetoric at the beginning of the clip?
And that I’d have to look at him?
