RonD, welcome.
There’s a great story behind this concert. Wiki:
The video from this show was filmed by the audience and was then carefully put together by a group of fans.Radiohead contributed themselves by providing their own audio masters of the show.
On 23rd August 2009 a group of Radiohead fans descended on
the Výstavištĕ Holešovice Exhibition Hall in Prague on a mission –
to capture the band playing using as many different angles as possible.
Bringing together the exceptional talents of many contributors,
here is the result.
Cool.
And if that isn’t enough, the entire concert was then posted for download, in various formats including Hi-Def, for FREE. Here.
After a two day trip from Cleveland to Campobello Island to my brother’s house, we arrived at sunset. My SIS volunteered vodka martinis. I’d never had a martini, ever! She made vodka martinis and it was heaven on earth. Every night at 6:00 — martini hour! And for a week of vacation. It was wonderful.
If you leave that link open on yer desktop (don’t minimize it) it will play thru about 10 or more Louvin Brothers songs . . . give ya a good feel for the brothers sound.
Charlie and Ira Louvin had that sound that only siblings can ever make, loved their music.
What impresses my Egyptian friends is that Mohamed ElBaradei is returning Friday to run for the presidency. They are quite excited. ElBaradei is far too high profile for the government to imprison. I fear for his life, but admire his courage.
The ElBaradei news is interesting. Striking.
But I have always wondered about Egypt’s relations with Israel, and I don’t know what a revolt in Egypt means in that sense.
I used to be kind of scared of Lurk. Not really, but a bit apprehensive.
Not anymore!
I have plenty of chocolate pecan bars on hand just in case, though.
Good evening one and all .. Egypt is like a boil coming to a “head” and the bandage is coming off .. could spread infection everywhere .. no-one ever said Democracy was easy .. but think of the markets for Chinese goods it could create .. love Scotland especially Isle of Iona and Mull … and Scotch is an elixir of the Celtic Gods that few understand and even fewer properly appreciate .. nice to find a few who like the really peaty stuff .. we always have some at our family wakes .. in fact members of my family buy their own bottle and leave it behind .. thanks for hosting Lurk .. listened to some Beatles today and wished good vibes to Suz on her road trip ..
Nice diary, LOTS of links! Siun has a good one with good comments earlier in the day on the main page . . . I have a bookmark folder for Egypt and the like that’s filling up reL FST.
Engelhhardt, Cole, MyFDL Pups, GuFdian, Al Jazeer, Rimondo’s place.
Oh, I meant I’d look for it on youtube, or some of the peer to peer avenues . . . or a host of other streaming sites with ‘vaults’ to draw on . . . but thanks, ‘preciate the heads up!
I had someone post an hour long documentary about Beatles, Paul is dead conspiracy stuff at facebook. it was actually pretty well done, made me think of Robert Anton Wilson.
an acquired taste. for an old ’70s prog-rock guy they carry some of the of that complex spirit but with a killer pop sensibility that often lies buried too many layers below the noodling.
Hi Larue!
I heard about him from Steve Terrell, who does a radio show on a public radio station of wildly different varieties of music.
He does a show Fri. and Sun. and it’s 10 pm Mountain time. http://steveterrell.blogspot.com/
Hey Lurking Mod. I appreciated your moderation efforts (if you were in fact the one) on my story Guns Outlawed at Palin Speaking Events.
I’m going to rework the piece for Open Salon, but their comments aren’t moderated I expect to see a lot more gun people on attack and nothing I can do about it except flag them. It makes me appreciate FDL all the more.
Oh I will. I’m hoping to force other publications to reopen up the discussion. Especially the Politico, but they might not see how they can “win the day” with a response.
Ferenc Fricsay was Hungarian, but he had a knack for Smetena and Dvorak. The most memorable live performance on youtube of Vltava was by Rafael Kubelik in 1990, after her returned to Czechoslovakia from exile, but I can’t find the second part of it on youtube anymore.
Note the orchestra is 100% guys. Back then women were only allowed to play one instrument in European and American orchestras. What instrument do you think that was?
Ayn Rand, Hypocrite?
Legendary opponent of “welfare state” received Social Security and probably Medicare
OH yah the worst of the worst took SS and Medicare.. the irony of it all…
Oh yeah just fer you Lurk.. where is Ms Suzanne?
zed. guess not.
Lurking Mod? Not Suz?
Hey!
Hey you guys!
She is over the mountain for the baby shower!
Suzanne is on a trip for the baby shower!
What a time for her.
Suz OK? Already answered
Lurk…! Mahalo for filling in for Suz…! ;-)
I guess this is the time for a “drink.”
God evening Chris, and CTuttle!
WMD, nice to see you.
Nahant!
Great.. good for her! iirc Both her daughters will be there??
‘evenin’, all-
The best prank I have seen in a while.
How’re you, Lurk?
Make mine Lagavulin. Neat.
Hey! This is fun!
RonD, welcome.

Cool.
And if that isn’t enough, the entire concert was then posted for download, in various formats including Hi-Def, for FREE. Here.
Oh, you devil! MrCE is going to join you. Actually have a bottle!
I can not usually drink scotch, but if it is the peaty stuff, cheers!
Hence, MrCE loves it, but not me.
Caol Ila OK? Or maybe some Bunnahabhain?
Yes, no one else I know can stand it.
I am assuming Bunnahabhain is another Islay. Not familiar.
Usually bourbon here, if anything.
But if there are cigars, Lagavulin.
How about Laphroaig?
Yup, so’s Caol Ila. There’s also Bruichladdich, Bowmore and the peatiest Laphroaig.
Trader Joes sometimes has Bowmore under an off label for decent price.
I think I may go for a drink myself
Right, another old Islay.
And another great reason, before we pass on, to see Scotland. Which I have not.
Really and no mention of “Train Wreck”??
Hey, don’t any of you people drink vodka?
*shutting up now*
Please see Scotland. We love it so.
Being on duty, it’s water for me.
Yes, that’s a whimper.
Newt!
Nice of you to drop by.
Oh newt, I have a great vodka story — are you still here?
I expected a lot of Radiohead fans.
yeah…
Todd on Letterman.
Please!
Same, Lurk.
Oh, Suz is tripping.
Grandma Suz, I should say.
Very nice music.
Good evening, Twain.
Another Radiohead fan!
What a kewl vid, Lurk…! I betcha been itching to bust out this gem…? ;-)
Hiya, TheLurkingMod.
We’ll probably know by noon tomorrow whether or not the Egyptian uprisings translate into a revolution.
Different Generation.
One of the best I’ve seen on youtube . . . at about 5:30 in Phil, Bobby N The FT MN are grooving in zone few ever attain . . . .
Howdy Lurk, thanks for sittin in . . . howdy Pups . . . wass shakin sides yer booties?
Chilled vodka. Sounds delightful.
Funny, I always imagined FDR drinking martinis on Campobello.
But I read somewhere that he was a fan of egg nog.
It’s a kinky taste. Sort of reminds me of the smell of my dentist’s office in the late 1950s. The kinky part is that I like it.
Good evening, ET.
I never thought it would be Egypt. Never. And it’s more than troubling.
Hey Larue, that’s very nice.
Alas, unlike many friends, I never once saw a Dead show.
The really funny story is finding the huge liquor stores on the NH borders. My god, I’ve neve seen such huge liquor stores.
Why is it troubling? Do you know Egypt?
Is there a neighboring ‘dry’ state?
Proximity to Gaza. Like the region needs that.
RIP Charlie Louvin.
If you leave that link open on yer desktop (don’t minimize it) it will play thru about 10 or more Louvin Brothers songs . . . give ya a good feel for the brothers sound.
Charlie and Ira Louvin had that sound that only siblings can ever make, loved their music.
Louvin Wiki
Bless them both . . . together again.
I’ve never seen Radiohead . . .
*G*
I think it would be a good thing for Gaza…! Mubarak only ensures that the Israeli Siege is complete…! 8-(
I wrote about it earlier… Time for the Blue Helmets…
I have no idea what that means.
What impresses my Egyptian friends is that Mohamed ElBaradei is returning Friday to run for the presidency. They are quite excited. ElBaradei is far too high profile for the government to imprison. I fear for his life, but admire his courage.
Definitely an acquired taste.
I couldn’t understand why all the hubbub – they won a Grammy one year for Best Metal band, and I was scratching my head.
Metal? I heard Jazz and Alternative. And not the good kind. But not Metal.
Then one day I involuntarily listened their album ‘Kid A’, and I suddenly ‘heard’ them.
I’d missed that. Good diary, CT, but I don’t trust the blue helmet people all that much.
nice toon lurk….
The ElBaradei news is interesting. Striking.
But I have always wondered about Egypt’s relations with Israel, and I don’t know what a revolt in Egypt means in that sense.
Mmmm, bourbon.
Hey Suzanne! How is the traveling?
welcome Suz. How was the trip?
I’ll go dig that up somewhere and check it out, thanks!
Suz!
I mean Grandma Suz!
Suz…! Safe trip so far I see…! *g*
See if you can hear if before buying it. Really.
I used to be kind of scared of Lurk. Not really, but a bit apprehensive.
Not anymore!
I have plenty of chocolate pecan bars on hand just in case, though.
Traveling grandma Suzanne!
Breaktime!
Margot!
You have any old gems for us?
Oh, I agree, but, they’re about it besides Nato troops, who’ll probably be tagged to do it for the UN anyways…!
Good evening one and all .. Welcome, tearloch7.
My pleasure (OK, I am scared to death).

Engelhhardt, Cole, MyFDL Pups, GuFdian, Al Jazeer, Rimondo’s place.
Funny, not so much in the US MSM! ;-)
Ha ha .. it will grow on ya … glad you made it safe Suz .. listened to The LOng and Winding road and envisioned the Coast hiway in a drizzle … lol
Real old:
Ronnie Dawson
we head out tomorrow — am at jen’s tonight… wow her baby bump sure aint a bump no more…tis a full blown belly
*sigh* we leave at ohdarkhundred… or what she calls 7am… lard love a duck that’s prime sleeping time
Good evening ET .. good to see you
evening, firegods — how’s everyone tonight?
Yay Suz!
Oh, I meant I’d look for it on youtube, or some of the peer to peer avenues . . . or a host of other streaming sites with ‘vaults’ to draw on . . . but thanks, ‘preciate the heads up!
Good evening, PPD
Very well, thanks.
I had someone post an hour long documentary about Beatles, Paul is dead conspiracy stuff at facebook. it was actually pretty well done, made me think of Robert Anton Wilson.
hiya, TLM
The entire live Prague show, right here.
Just a shout out to the Lurk. Thanks for being here for us.
That’s 5 whole hours of prime sleep, Suz…! *heh* ‘Are we there yet’…? ;-)
Still my favorite Beatles.
Lurk!
‘Enigmatic” is a good word to describe Radiohead, one of my favorite bands yet one that can be frustrating to no end.
This link has them performing the entire recent-ish ‘In Rainbows’ album live in studio, seemingly in one take. Check out House of Cards in particular.
I can recommend ‘OK Computer’ and ‘Kid A’ as keeper albums. Too many good songs to list.
Paul always was “dead” to some of us .. :) .. poker time .. sleep at peace when you get there, all ..
Dearie, how nice! Shout back!
Awesome!
Ronnie D Wiki.
Where did YOU hear of him? I learnt of him in the 70′s from a Bay Area club git player who was teaching me banjo . . .
Punaise, welcome.
As I said, I never ‘heard’ Radiohead, and then one day, I loved them.
Ah thanks for that .. it had been awhile .. I shall carry it with me ..
Ok! I’ll hit that tomorrow, gotta run soon . . . thanks!
*butting in*
Nice!
Love to the missis.
mmm, Woodford Reserve…
All these years I thought it was:
Wow! lol
Somewhere, on a damaged hard disk I cannot afford to resurrect, I have the entire rehearsal and concert.
There’s A LOT of surprises.
Thanks, luck, fate, timing and our persistence and GREAT medical care (and coverage) got her the best possible outcome, as I mentioned in Dec . . .
an acquired taste. for an old ’70s prog-rock guy they carry some of the of that complex spirit but with a killer pop sensibility that often lies buried too many layers below the noodling.
What I didn’t hear – some very off-beat rhythms, not unlike what the 70′s included, but I never heard underneath until much later.
But they can flat out play.
My Last Quarter For The Night.
Emmy Lou, about ’78, shakin it up!
Albert Lee (Mr.Telecaster), a VERY youngish Rodney Crowell on rhythm/backup voice.
Best to all, hug ‘em close, drive safely Suz . . . we do it all over again come the ‘morn.
N we’re HAPPY about that!
*G*

Good night, Larue. Thanks.
Well done! Tradition of host inadvertently getting the 100 continues!
Oh, gulp.
Suzanne – OK, I admit it – the 100 is harder to avoid than I thought.
*heh* Lurk’s a rookie at this…! ;-)
to be fair, no one was warning you off. I try to let Suz know it’s getting close.
Big shoes. Biiiig, shoes.
I blame wmd!
Score, dude.
Hey Suz! happy grand-baby wishes…
Guess I set myself up for that.
Actually Evan Williams Single Barrel. Better on the budget, still really nice bourbon.
There is no fine.
Here’s some of Margot’s chocolate.
Zed-lore: comment #99 gets credit for an assist if the response to it generates #100.
One of my favorite “Live from Prague” vids – Ferenc Fricsay directing the Berlin Radio Symphony in Prague in the 1950s. – Vltava.
thanks for the tip(sy)!
*snicker*
I fail to warn Suz sometimes as well.
Check Costco if they sell hard liquor in your locale.
Hey folks.
Turned up, surprisingly powerful.
Great recording.
ET, that is wonderful.
Jukebox needs fed.
Welcome, spocko.
Be sure to link your piece here. Reinforcements, you know.
And the entire staff contributed.
This is going to seem weird at first, but it gets good.
Diane Birch in… Darly Hall’s house.
Oh I will. I’m hoping to force other publications to reopen up the discussion. Especially the Politico, but they might not see how they can “win the day” with a response.
Night folks!
Good night, spocko
Hoplophiles are onto SP for her using her father to work the bolt when she misses a shot. She’s pandering…. the hypocrisy is worth a spotlight though.
ET, would that be the Czech Phil?
I think I may be able to run that down.
I am familiar with that refrain.
I would have no starting point to guess from.
Piano?
I spent 15 minutes looking earlier tonight. good luck.
nope. Franz Liszt started the tradition in 1849 with his Weimar orchestra.
If you can’t get it after that, I fold.
Which instrument?
I’m going to sleep. Good night all.
Harp
Good night, wmd
Shame at lack of orchestral knowledge tells me to say, “Oh, right!.”
Folks, I am returning to my regular duties – snagging miscreants.
A pleasure as always. Thank you for a good time.
And thanks, Suzanne.

Stokowski loved to audition new harp players in the Hollywood of the late 30s and 40s.
A casting couch for musicians?
nite lurk
Mahalo, Lurk…! Pleasant Dreams…! *g*
Only in Hollywood…
:-)
nite et
nite you guys. sleep calls.
