The Doors of the 21st Century (now known as Manzarek-Krieger for legal reasons) with Ian Astbury — Roadhouse Blues, live 2004.
What’s on your mind?
Fitz!!
Thank you to everyone who commented on my diary about not watching the SOTU. It was gratifying to receive so many “you speak for me” comments.
We may be in a crappy situation, but at least we’re in it together.
Evening Suz, hope all is well.
Loved your diary today. And congrats on the zed!
mauimom! you still on the mainland or back on your island?
hey ofguy — how’s nova tonight?
I spelled “Fitz” wrong the first time and had to edit.
Back on my island. I was scheduled to be here for two weeks solo, while my husband is on the Mainland, so I took a little “breather” and went to see a friend in Tucson. Really helped my mental health and combated the sense of isolation.
We need more cowbell.
thank goodness for edit — i’m such a bad typist and tend to transpose letters when i’m tying fast
i’m hoping my trip down to ca for jen’s baby shower this weekend will give me a mental health breather myself…
Yes we do!
Hey Suz, here at my house I’m expecting some inclement weather tomorrow. Not a big deal though. All things considered, this year has been MUCH BETTER than last year.
How about you??? What’s the northwest like?
hey mr why — how ya doing tonight?
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
very un-january like — i hit 62 here today!
Now that is a funny comment!! Of the “who’s on first” school.
hahahah — i love that routine
third base!
Hey Suzanne!
What a night! I’m worried about my kids, as are you.
While in Tucson this weekend, I went to a lecture by a geology professor from U of A. It was held in a home [about 40 people there], and one of the audience members had been at the Gabby Giffords shooting: received a gunshot wound on his arm when he put it over his wife’s head to protect her.
Spooky.
i get to see both my girls this weekend — i drive down to ca with jen and steph is flying in to the bay area for jen’s baby shower. haven’t seen steph since my birthday in october — and that was the first time in a wee bit more than a year
so glad to hear good music and “see” friendly faces here.
oh geez… gives me shivers. were you in tucson when the assassination attempt happened?
hey margot — how’s your part of ohio tonight?
No. Went Thursday; returned yesterday.
Jonell Mosser on the juke.

my sister used to live in tucson until last year when she moved closer to my mom (who is in the phoenix area). she used to shop at that safeway
hey that guy — how ya doing tonight?
hey robert — how’s southern pa tonight?
Doing fine, feeling better.
Hey I didn’t watch SOTU and I don’t want to. Barack W. Bush have anything meaningful to say, any hint he might not be abandoning progressives, or was it just more triangulation and bullshit?
I am SO sick of the transparent money-grubbing taking place. I wish the west coast could secede from the union. Of course, I wish the confederacy had been allowed to secede in 1860.
Warmed up quite a bit. Best news is my younger son and I ran into a family friend, and now son is set up for a job interview where this guy works. So, so grateful.
shit.. the tillamook cheese factory caught fire early this morning — took 50 firefighters to fight the blaze which was caused by an electrical problem.
dayam, i was gonna stop by there tomorrow to pick up some cheese curds for the trip
job interview? woohoo! fingers and toes crossed for him margot
CHEESE TURDS!!!!!!
they squeek when ya bite into them… they are very very popular. when i bought my new to me car last year, the price included one bag of cheese curds from there
More Ian Astbury. Thought he sounded familiar…
Cold.
The Robert would be very grateful to any LNFDLers who can be of assistence on my Linksy wireless connection. Had a brief power loss here, next thing I know, I’m unable to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
I know, you know how J and I are with our immature potty humor. ;-)
Did I miss anything by skipping SOTU?
the only reason i watched is cause i was working backstage. otherwise, i wudda been watching anything else
hey cujo — how’s seattle tonight? he’s from the cult and has gone back to that group according to the wiki
shit. i hope someone here knows how to fix that dood
rising blood pressure?
Don’t feel bad. I stopped watching them in the early ’80s, maybe even earlier. I realized I can be lied to just as effectively in a far shorter time. These things haven’t actually meant anything since at least that time, and probably earlier.
Was that a hint?
*laughing*
yes — was i too subtle?
They’ve been around long enough that I’m sure they have reunions every few years. Crazy thing was that I didn’t know the band’s name until I found a CD in a rental car while I was on a business trip. I’d heard the songs on the radio all the time.
Seattle’s been nice. It wasn’t 62 today, but it was fairly warm.
Evening to Suz, and all .. did not watch yer SOTU .. I canna handle the deciept that permeates thru Barry’s insincerity .. great version of Roadhouse
you got more of that front that moved through last night than we did down here. i had sunshine today… but my sunset wasn’t as good as i had hoped for tho
Robert, if you want some help, let’s take it off-thread.
hey tearloch — how’s bc tonight? roadhouse blues has always been my roadtrip song — i’ve got the morrison hotel cd all cued up on my ipod for the trip. tis a tradition that goes back to when the girls were little.
Could be all sorts of things. Has the setup on your computer changed at all?
la woman
Well if I missed that, I’m good.
I want to emigrate to Australia.
Ah yes .. I love tradition and road trips .. I sit down and plan out my music before a trip too .. avoid George Thorogood unless you can avoid the speeding tickets .. :) .. weather was above freezing again here today so water water everywhere .. other shoe falls tomorrow when it starts freezing again ..
doesn’t australia have its own conservative heartless bastoid in charge?
‘evening, all-
I’ve decided, after falling asleep about 45 minutes into the SOTU, that next year, I’m going to cue up Pink Floyd’s The Wall as he starts talking, and see if I can synch the end of the speech to the sound of the collapsing wall. At least as productive as watching the speech.
i’m so glad i’m not the only one who does that
and yeah, i know what ya mean about george
*heh* Aloha, Suz and LLN pups…! ;-)
hey rond — how’s the great swamp tonight? that’s a great forking idea dood
Sad but potentially hilarious … :)
FUCK… see what i mean… i also leave letters out
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
No. I called Verizon because, first, I couldn’t get a connection even with the DSL plugged into the computor. After a couple hours, tech decided it was the modem and are sending a new one. Then I got the bright idea that maybe, just maybe, it was the DSL cable, so tried a spare. That worked. The old cable must have been bad. So I can, as you all can tell, connect with a direct connection, but, though the lights on my Lindy router are all good, can’t connect wirelessly.
Evening Mr Tut .. good to see the humidity has not wilted ya too far ..
You got a couple of good photos the other day. That’s probably your quota for this time of year. It’s sure rare to see more than one in a week – usually it just gets a lot grayer all of a sudden.
thanks cujo. i had 3 days of sunshine in two weeks.. 4 if ya count today but there was a lotta high clouds today so it was more like partly cloudy
Please help us. Time’s running out.
It was actually a gorgeous day today…! I’m still wondering whom uttered the most lies/half truths… Obummer or Ryan…? Pretty close call…!
Wet. Severe thunderstorms, 1500 lightning strikes in less than an hour…and a tornado less than five miles from my house. Some tense moments there.
I’d say that you should verify that the setup on the router is still right. You should be able to do that via the LAN. You did create a password/key for your wifi, right? Anyway, make sure that’s the same as what’s on your computer. If you’re telling the computer to look for a particular wireless network name, make sure that’s the same (most people don’t, but I do.) If that doesn’t work, I’m just about out of what I can suggest remotely, short of, of course, unplugging the router for thirty seconds and trying again.
hey jpork — i wish i could help ya out dood. a blown alternator — that sucks
Aloha, tearloch…! ;-)
ya should factor in crazytown bachmann’s lies/half truths too dood
yikes!!! i saw a twister warning on my twitter earlier and didn’t realize it was that close to ya dood
Different flavor. The Visigoths are on the horizon in the US.
i had heard something somewhere about how canada and australia were doing boosh governments… i sure hope that is wrong or has changed
maybe new zealand is the place to go? sure wish i could find an undiscovered island and set up my own progressive country
Ah, come on, we don’t need to grade on a curve. Here class, for extra credit:
Que esta mas batshit loco?
About ten years ago, we had one leap right over the house, at midnight. They say it sounds like a train, but I didn’t get that. There was no directionality…just suddenly surrounded by this deafening roar, and every little leak in the house shrieking like a teakettle. No where to run, and no idea which way to run. Not so close today, but the grandkids were here…trying to go through a storm drill without scaring the hell out of the little guys turns out to be not so easy.
muy batshit loco senor
I didn’t realize that CNN/Cspan were the only ones carrying it until after it was over…! I really did want to see what she had to say, being the political junkie that I am…! ;-)
holy moly dood — you were so lucky it skipped over ya.
what did the grandkids think?
you could always go to the teaparty site — i’m sure they have it up
That sounds like a certain way to trigger a US invasion…
Thanks, Cujo. I’ll give it a try.
Whew… Ya dodged a bullet there… Thank dawg for that…! *g*
fuck…. maybe if we don’t tell them where it is….
My ‘puter would never forgive me after that…! ;-)
Baby please don’t go
They didn’t dig it. We got into serious distraction mode as soon as the crisis passed, and after making a pizza and baking cookies, they were fine.
We have an election coming soon in Canada .. ruling party is owned by the Multi-nationals developing the tar-sands project that pumps gasoline south so Amerika can run its cars .. hoping to turf them out .. pseudo-Rethugs one and all .. Bush/Cheney wanna-be’s .. fuckers one and all ..
oh that’s sweet margot
Well, they’ll need to know where to drop off the foreign aid we’ll apply for…I know. We’ll have maximum banking secrecy laws, and become a tax-dodge haven. Wall St. would never let Washington invade then…
dayam — do they frack to extract oil from the tar sands or use some other process?
Too true!
Good luck with that. They’ve been fighting the oil-shale thing in the Northeast, too. Gives us a whole new meaning for the word “fracking”.
They scoop it up in huge earthmoving equipment, blast the tarsand with super-heated steam, then starts the refinement of the bitumen…! Extremely costly, water intensive process…! 8-(
dayam… does it fuck up the water like fracking does?
I believe so .. I am a silviculturist not a freeking fracker .. I do know they are screwing up eco-systems galore ..
what’s a silviculturist?
Now Ensbridge wants to build a pipeline thru pristine areas to ship heavy gluggy oil to China .. ain’t gonna happen ..
A forester .. I work to heal the scars industry exacts from nature in harvesting “natural” resources … sorta like an ecological healer .. :)
congrats on the lucky 100 tearloch!
how cool — how did you get into that?
The holding ponds for the spent water is highly toxic and they actually hire people just to divert water fowl from them… The earth removal itself is on a par with the mtn. top removal for ‘clean coal’…!
Hiya, Suzannne, pups!
Just off Skype with Ms ET. She’s in a tiny village up the Kuskokwim River from Bethel, mentoring young teachers. She watched the SOTU speech, ’cause she had nothing better to do this evening. I skipped it, ’cause I’d read it and thought it sucked.
34 degrees F. flat calm in Wasilla.
hey et — how was your day?
fuck
Started working fire suppression as a boy cause of my dad .. it is in my family .. forestry .. most were loggers .. I chose to clean up their frigging mess .. feels better when you lay down yer head at night .. knowing you contribute something to heal .. lately I have spent a lot of my time training others to continue the process .. age does that .. but it is rewarding to give something back too ..
Howdy neighbor ..
I have avoided learning any more about tar sands because I get feeling empty, then vengeful .. and I can drive there in a day .. ignorance is bliss and happiness is a warm gun apparently .. :)
It sounds like the waste is about on par with coal, too.
i felt that way about policing — it was good going home knowing i had done something that helped, even though it was after the fact. i was a field training officer at the dept and i like to think those rookies are now carrying on.
happiness
They are similar .. I always found trees easier to deal with tho .. they move real slow and have a sense of humour .. :)
Howdy, neighbor. How close?
{{{{Suzanne}}}}
and are much less likely to pull a weapon on ya or file a complaint with internal affairs
Thanks Suz .. in ’64 at the age of 14 I ran away to see the Beatles .. in ’65 when the came to Seattle, my Mom bought me a bus tickett .. great days indeed .. most peculiar Momma ..
Exactly…! Google has some good images…
Northern BC .. I get to Hyder on occasion just to feel like an international traveler .. :)
Right. They’ll just drop a limb on your ass and be done with it.
I have always felt great empathy for people .. but when you have to try and change their behavior they take it personal .. :)
Hey folks! So I read Mauimom’ s why I’m not watching the state of the union, but only afterward. I listened of the radio.
It all seemed lame to me. Too much ray rah we are great and not enough this shit is real.
Also called a widow-maker .. catchy title for a dead limb .. ha ha ha
my first concert was the beatles at candlestick — which was their very last concert iirc. my folks said i had to take my 3rd grade sister — i was in 6th grade iirc — and they dropped us kids off and picked us up after the show.
oh boy did i learn that living in the redwoods in boulder creek — they call them widowmakers
hey spocko — how was your day today?
looks like i owe ya a drink — what’s your pleasure?
I think I remember. You live on that beautiful upland lake?
Aren’t they bull-dozing forest to first get at the sands? They already have or are building extra pipeline to Superior, WI where Murphy Oil Co had plans to fill in 400 acres of wetland to expand refining using (evaporating) an estimated one million gallons a day to process that tar into something burnable.
Hey all you puples, slept through all the speeches tonight, had a busy day and now almost time for bed. I Hope everyone still up is in best of spirits.
they really take it personal when ya tow their car. i had a sgt who told me one time that he figured he got a complaint for every 10 cars i towed — was working abandoned cars at the time — and he said that’s how he knew i was doing my job.
Ah those were wonderful days full of hope and wonderment .. I lived inside the Beatles and Dylan songs for years .. got me thru the deadly teenage years .. stopped me from coming down and volunteering for the Nam, and also accepting an RCMP gig .. pot, John Lennon and Mr. Dylan saved my soul .. :D
hey nonq — how was your day today?
Rooiboo’s tea with a touch of sage-honey .. or Glen Livet at a wake .. did anyone die??.. :)
Tomorrow is a brand new day .. be well all … sleep at peace .. thanks for hosting with yer usual aplomb Suz .. and safe travels if I miss you .. just had my 6th grand child and all the hullabaloo is worth it .. :)
Hey Edward teller. I don’t know if you caught my diary, but it is about how at the Palin speaking events concealed carry weapons are outlawed. In Reno at the safari hunt club no body on the audience can have a gun.
I’m going to look into future events to see if this is remains the case. Then I point this out to the guns rights people and suggest them to confront Palin’s security or the venue. The goal is to drive a show everyone the difference between the extremist NRA and the rational gun owners while making Palin look bad to supporters for not standing up for them.
http://my.firedoglake.com/spocko/2011/01/24/guns-outlawed-at-palin-speaking-events/
ya don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows… fuck its not on utube anymore :(
sliding your tea with honey down the counter to ya
g’nite and congratulations tearloch
I bought, “local,” to get a lift chair for my semi-physically disabled mother almost two weeks ago and the asshats claim they can’t tell me where it is or when it will finally be delivered. Its a bitch when you have someone beyond early alzshemiers (sp) calling you about it four times a day.
Other than that, I had a decent week of work (CAD drafting home-plans)last week and am waiting on client decisions to continue the project. Meeting later today to see where they want to finalize window and door placement.
oh that sucks nonq. dayam…. don’t they know that ya forking need that equipment when ya order it?
and ya for the decent week of work

‘night, all.
The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
hey jotman — how ya doing tonight?
g’nite rond
Hoss, if yer still around, here’s a linky for you to diary ponder:
Good Read, In Depth.
Howdy Pups, Suz, and all . . . can’t stay , best to all.
PS: Egypt is erupting tonight, let’s see how long before the blogs or MSM begin to get details and cover it . . . could be huge, after Tunesia . . .
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
I know it is likely sitting in a warehouse in Chicago waiting for a large enough load to fill a delivery vehicle before it moves. Had to fight my sarcastic self to remain polite with the store manager, but said the local papers were getting a letter to the editor and I would be down there today to speak with the store owner about her keeping her job.
Bonus though, spent a bit of my free time fishing (yes I have a gasoline powered ice auger) and am getting daily limit of Lake Michigan whitefish for the plate without a lot of work. Actually kind of fun when the temps jump into the 20′s. Heat wave
dayam ya know the weather has been bad when 20 is considered a heat wave
’bout time for me to turn back into a pumpkin folks. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
see ya next week
Fortunately, we northern mid-westers have appropriate clothing.
Personally, I prefer winter to be here when it is supposed to be here and I can get really bummed when we get the 24 inches of wet snow in April, when one may have already had a chance to be working the garden.
Glad I had a chance to chat Suzanne. As M. Python troupe would say, always look on the bright side. I did appreciate that diddy you put up a while back. Be well, thanks for being here and good night.
