Americans have been watching the Teabaggers for almost two years now, and as it turns out, unbridled, spittle-producing rage isn’t very popular.
52 percent of Americans now hold unfavorable views of the tea party, a new high. Nearly three-quarters of Democrats – including as many moderate and conservative as liberal members of the party – have negative views of the political movement, as do half of all independents.
As they always do, wingnuts are blaming the media — but these numbers are almost identical to the same poll’s findings in June 2010 — well before the ‘Baggers got blood libeled [sic].
Only 35% of Americans like the Teabaggers, about the same number that like Saudi Arabia. Kinda figures. Both love to drill for oil, hate gays, and believe in theocracy.
Russia, on the other hand — the country that Republicans still love to demagogue — has a net-positive 47/45 favorable rating.
As for socialism, it’s viewed favorably by 36% of Americans, a fact which will just make Teabaggers even angrier and crazier.
Pretty easy to see why Republicans like Marco Rubio are having second thoughts about throwing in with these people.

So wait, more Americans like Socialism than Teabagging rednecks? There’s hope for this country yet, damnit.
Amazing how the “polls” – and the narrative – changes post the media putting the GOP back in charge of the House.
But then the media wants a second Obama term – I wonder what the owners of the media have been promised.
But that is “conspiracy thinking” – inferring a logical connection between actions and political results is a no-no ….. one needs “proof”. Like Ron Reagan saying Dad was somewhat impaired in second term needs “proof” beyond Ron’s observation.
What? You mean the public doesn’t like to watch stomping heads!
I think the followers that put them in office will be pretty rough on them. Afterall, they promised to change stuff and create jobs. Oh well, they haven’t even started looking at ways to change the economic situation.
They should be fearful of their base. ;-)
Obviously, there’s Marxist, Communist, Socialist, KGB sabotage in this polling data, so gimme another glass of Kool Aid. I’m getting ready to turn on Glenn Beck. He’ll straighten this heathen shit out…
This anti-tea party bent was forming long before the Tucson shooting. One tragedy that cannot even be entirely blamed on their rhetoric is not going to change public opinion. N, this erosion of respect for the tea party crowd is deeper than that.
It’s based on the visceral hate speech peddled by people like Palin and Beck and, most importantly, the decision by the tea party freshmen to make health care repeal their number one priority in Congress when all of America is screaming JOBS.
(sorry)
These are the people who were driven to the polls on the backs of violent vitriol and scathing rhetoric. Hope that attitude doesn’t carry over when the GOP fails to deliver on their promises.
The question is whether the Baggers are the base of the Republican Party or is it the other way around. I really don’t think they know.
It being the week of MLK Day and all, seems appropriate to reread the text of the decision from Loving v. Virginia, decided 1967.
That is what the hard core teabaggers want to overturn. Not HCR. HCR is peanuts.
They want to go back to outlawing miscegenation. And while they are at it, they want to hop in time machines and go back and keep Obama’s mother and father from getting together.
And they want more boxes of ammo, so they can be safe. The GOP has collected every paranoid-or-ELOC wack-job in the country.
I’m sure it all has something to do with ACORN and the missing Whitehouse cornerstone.
LOL! Don’t eat or drink while watching. Wouldn’t want you to get choked or need any type of assistance.
But what a leading question. It’s totally not fair! “All the tea in CHINA“? China-communism? Communism = Socialism = Hitler = Barack Obama = liberals. I can see Beck’s blackboard “flowchart” already.
R U Saying Why Obama is the same is Stalin? P
I’m just wondering who spell check doesn’t get Obama?
Me either, but changing them will be hard to do especially when they are fired up mad. I think they will be feeling much like us after 9 months of Obama.
Clearly, the worst thing that can happen to any political faction these days is to get into power.
After eight years of lunar-right Republican rule, the voters swept the Democrats in. It certainly wasn;t because of anything the Democrats did!
After two years of Democratic rule, the voters toss the Dems out. It’s hard to see how this victory came from from anything the Repubs did.
Now the Tea Partiers are at bat, and I have no doubt that citizens will soon be leading torchlit parades in opposition to the Baggers.
I’m concerned that these teapartiers may be angry enough and stupid enough to do something like what happened in Tuscon. As riled up as they are, it wouldn’t be impossible. It scares me.
Perry, do you ever engage?
I think we’re already seeing that. The thing is they are all the same, there is no real choice. It’s a fantasy.
Interesting things are happening in the R party. Palin’s
approval rating is down to 38% and Orrin Hatch is about the same.
And Kent Conrad (D-idiot) is retiring. Snoopy Dance!
I know it! That is what I am saying. They will be really rough on their representatives. More violent words and actions than we have seen and I think we must prepare for it. What to do, I don’t know.
You forgot Kenya. That completes the circle…
It’s a tough bed to lie on for the GOP, but I think they need to get out in front of this issue and start calming things down. I don’t know if it’s a door that can be unopened, but for the sake of the lives of all parties involved, I sure hope so.
I knew I was missing something.
“Perry, do you ever engage?”
I sure as hell do. Do you want to engage me about something?
i was engaged once…no twice. but to the same girl.
“…are having second thoughts about throwing in with these people.”
Oh, watching the GOP deal with their crazies as we get into the election season, is going to be more fun than a barrel of monkeyshit. :o)
“Americans” is not a reliable poll. The only poll that means anything is the poll of voters, taken on election day. No one cares what “Americans” think.
When I was a speed freak my warp drive was engaged.
LOL – was never into uppers, but am a big Trek fan.
The Koch brothers and Dick Armey will come up with something for them to chase. I’m sure of it. They have no end to their bag of tricks.
That means about 75% of Republicans have a favorable view of the Tea Party?
Given that the sample was 33% Democrats, 23% Republicans, 38% Independent, I wonder if they adjusted for that?
OT:
R. Maddow is to have M. Moore on again tonight. Subject: Impeachment of a Supreme.
figure that the 35% will drop over time to the hardcore 28%-ers that still luv them some dubya. those are the ones to watch out for, since they can’t handle the truth of american demographic changes.
Yep, otherwise known as the Crazification Factor.
You imply disparity where there is none. The teabaggers are the Republicans.

Not the greatest article but still goes some distance to explain why Tea Baggers, esp, don’t deal in factual reality:
They are indeed the vocal part of the Republican party right now. The real republicans that pull the strings prefer to remain silent. Those MOTUs understand that publicity for them is a bad thing.
The “new wave” of Tea Baggers – after Obummah got elected – wished to distinguish themselves from the old-style GOP, but they certainly capitulated on that principle quickly enough when David Koch started spreading the cash around & Dick Army played Pied Piper…
The teabaggers are definitely Republican but the Rs that I have known aren’t the TP types and wouldn’t be seen at the TP rally. They would consider it very low class.
i believe the ‘baggers are the low education voters that have been fooled by the corporate media into voting against their own economic self-interest. the blue-blood repubs vote with their pocketbook, but the teabaggers vote with their raw emotion, which is mainly hate, with a dash of rage and racism.
Heh,
They must have adjusted for the 33% Dem vs. 23% Rep, unless the Republicans are pro Tea Party 105% of the time (I’m sure there’s a joke or snide remark in there somewhere). At least that’s what the math says.
It will – along political Democrats and Republicans. Socialism is what provides the social safety net in our society and this pool can be cited combined with “bipartisanship” as reasons to undermine the social safety net…and Obama is just the one to do it. Just look at his latest initiative to water down health and safety regulations:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/federal-eye/2011/01/obama_orders_federal_agencies.html
So much for the idea that socialism will only ever be the position of a tiny minority, as some have claimed. The poll doesn’t seem to have a time line, though. It would be even more interesting to see how approval for socialism has changed over time. Also, the poll should distinguish mere positive feelings about socialism from assent to the statement “I am a socialist” (although both are of interest).
Not for long – the establishment GOP will put the Teabaggers on a short leash -
indeed the membership seems majority “anti-war” – and that attitude interferes with a lot of GOP welfare checks to their military industrial corporation buddies.
It will be interesting to see how the GOP kills an anti-war movement that is part of their party. But the elected “tea-party supported” GOP appear ready to keep the the Pentagon very very happy. So I guess the question is how long will the membership accept a top down leadership objectives approach – can they live on bashing government size only – ignoring the Pentagon? Just how Libertarian are they – will they give up the “cultural issues” as they push individual responsibilities and market forces only with no regulations in health care?
Nobody sells socialism better than the Republicans and the Tea Party.
By labeling as “socialist” every policy that actually does people any good, they are convincing Americans that socialism must be a good thing.
This sort of news just makes them more likely to try to shoot the moon. Essentially, such poll results suggest that they can’t win if they play politics as usual. They’ll drag their party down next election, be blamed for the defeat, and be Untouchables forever after.
The only way they change that narrative is to deliver the revolutionary change their movement promised, a promise which they think won them this past election. They only got the House, so they can only get anything done at all, much less major change, by changing the rules first.
They have to, at a minimum, get rid of the ACA by denying it discretionary funding. No, that won’t balance the budget, though the need for cuts in spending will be the publuic rationale for the constitutional hardball they will use to win this fight or die trying.
This issue is tailor made for them to play hardball with, precisely because it will create a constituional crisis as the adminsitration flails about for workarounds past the de-funding, but doesn’t really threaten any of the really high cost programs that have constituencies, that would be dangerous to touch. Offing the ACA via a power of the purse fight lets them have a nice safe revolution for the cameras, because it will generate a huge fight without really dangerous consequences.
Well, no obvious and immediate bad consequences, which is what will allow them to get the “moderates” in their party behind the scheme.
I like teabaggers just fine. But I prefer they reside on another planet and not a nearby one.
