  • I’ll believe it when I see it.
  • Shorter Quitter: Wah!!!!
  • Guns don’t kill people, blah blah blah.

Any reality based review of regulations would show we need more, of course. Not sure that’s going to make friends and influence people in the corporate sphere, however.

The gun issue is just a distraction. Very few people are killed by gun violence. The real issues we should be talking about are health care reform, Wall Street reform, campaign finance reform and reform of the Military Industrial Complex. The gun debate just keeps us yelling at each other and the people in the boardrooms of the above mentioned industries are laughing their asses off at us right now.

we should be talking about are health care reform, Wall Street reform, campaign finance reform and reform of the Military Industrial Complex.

All the talking we’ve done over the last few decades on these issues sure have been effective. When you’ve had a close friend shot to death by a boyfriend you might think a little differently about firearms. An 8 year old girl killed on her couch by a fusillade of bullets fired into her house might also bring about a little awareness. Cheryl Smith was a friend of mine and the little girl was killed not far from where I live.

Of course any issue is important when someone you know is affected, but in terms of the big picture those other issues are much more important. And the fact that we’ve been fighting about them for so long without making much progress underscores my point even more.

Obomba could stop it if he didn’t agree with it. He hasn’t. He’s expanded the War on Terror (TM). If you were completely opposed to something before an election, would you not stop it as soon as possible once elected? He is doing nothing more than sticking to Bushies timeline. Obviously, he must agree with it.

My son picked up the “leftovers right out of the fridge for breakfast” habit from me, and his wife confessed that seeing him eat those things just makes her gag. She has trouble eating leftovers of any kind, even though she tends to cook too much (she’s a gourmet cook) so there are always yummy leftovers in their fridge.

I am waiting with anticipation for this week’s repeal health care kabuki. I even bought a fresh box of micro popcorn for the occasion.

I know you were snarking, but the guy who was armed and had his hand on his gun and almost shot someone at the scene in Tucson who had DISARMED Loughner is chilling. I think that would be more likely to happen in a stressful situation — more innocent lives lost.

But I am extremely anti-gun, so my views are colored by that.

“Obviously, what’s needed is fewer regulations.”

Not one mention of depressed consumer demand caused by 30 years of supply-side economics. And the corporations don’t believe in the regulation bogie-man either: the complaints about “unfriendly rhetoric” dwarf the reconciliation deregulation efforts. It’s the “third way” again, dragging all to the right.

“Guns don’t kill people, blah blah blah.”

When people buy handguns, they do so with an expectation to wound or kill another human being. There is no other purpose for the instrument. It is a decision that deadly violence is an immutable aspect of human nature and society, that conscience and civilization are myth: a surrender, and in effect a promotion, of uncivilized, antisocial, inhuman behavior. There are no “good guys” with guns.
