The real issues we should be talking about are health care reform, Wall Street reform, campaign finance reform and reform of the Military Industrial Complex. All the talking we’ve done over the last few decades on these issues sure have been effective. When you’ve had a close friend shot to death by a boyfriend you might think a little differently about firearms. An 8 year old girl killed on her couch by a fusillade of bullets fired into her house might also bring about a little awareness. Cheryl Smith was a friend of mine and the little girl was killed not far from where I live.

Of course any issue is important when someone you know is affected, but in terms of the big picture those other issues are much more important. And the fact that we’ve been fighting about them for so long without making much progress underscores my point even more.

My son picked up the “leftovers right out of the fridge for breakfast” habit from me, and his wife confessed that seeing him eat those things just makes her gag. She has trouble eating leftovers of any kind, even though she tends to cook too much (she’s a gourmet cook) so there are always yummy leftovers in their fridge.

I am waiting with anticipation for this week’s repeal health care kabuki. I even bought a fresh box of micro popcorn for the occasion.

Ice cream is good cold. And chocolate pudding. That’s about it. ;)
