Jimmy Hall & Friends — Shame, Shame, Shame, Perry, GA, December 28, 2006.
What’s on your mind?
zed?
Hey Suzanne!
hey mary mac — how’s sac tonight, senator?
Suz!
Suz!
* loading the u-tube, ready to hear some great harp *
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Dark. Sac is dark tonite and cold. again.
hey ll — i think you will like this one — how’s nova tonight?
I really like Jimmy Hall.
Aloha, Suz… That’s some sweet mouth harp…! ;-)
Hey MM! Have not seen that for years.
warmed up to 53 today (gasp) but it was a damp windy forking day and i’m feeling it in my joints
Chilly, 25 at the moment, and we had about an inch of snow out here last evening. Was pretty this morning when I went out for a bit.
I’m with Mary – dark and cold.
But then, I lived in her environs a while back, and when she says ‘cold’, it’s a whole nuther thing.
glad ya do — iirc, this is one that thatguy sent me last year.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? you know me, i love a good harp song
Me too! Hadn’t heard of him before…he sure can play and sang.
LL!
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Really. Peeps haven’t been zedding of late?
MY FAV shame shame song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J9iSpA9QTs&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=MLGxdCwVVULXdcmn7lFhkVnGppS0KL3Ro6
newton!
harp dog
hey perris — how ya doing tonight?
Dark and cloudy here too… Tho, the clouds did part enough for my pixs…! ;-)
I’m still trying to figure how to copy and paste it here…! I’m such a luddite…! *sigh*
yo
couldn’t sleep and here I am, how are you?
More than a foot of snow. MrCE out snowblowing with the mega machine for an hour. More expected tonight — up to a few inches. I lost a chunk of my front tooth tonight eating a jelly bean. I’m so mad. Dental appt. tomorrow at 9:15 tomorrow. I’m sick with worry.
Avett Brothers
some more harp
“It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”__Anne Frank
Ouch, CE! I hope all goes well.
harp darth
staying warm and dry inside :) its been a blustery day on the coast
Oooh I like them too.
The day we moved here it snowed. brbrbrbrbrrrrrrrrrrrr
fuck
hey robert — how was your day?
Jimmy Hall just gets better with age! How I wish I could sing like that.
don’t tell the right wing, they haven’t blamed carter for what’s going on in a very long time, you are going to give them an excuse
hey thatguy — how ya doing tonight? i think that maybe this video is one that you sent me last year?
tea, honey and lemon, blankey, fireplace and dog weather me thinks
Thanks Suz and LL — fuck is right. We’ve spent thousands in the last few years on MrCE’s teeth. He is ready for implants, I’m ready for neglect repair. Here we go
Yep but there’s another, too. I’ll send that, too. Actually there are two others.
My first winter in Davis, I had a piece of furniture near a window towards the front of the house.
At some early morning hour, the glue seams let go in the cold (this was indoors), and we thought God had hit a homer.
But it never snowed there.
oh no, I hate to hear that, let us know how it goes please.
The Magic Lanterns
substitute coffee for the tea and that’s my house tonight :) the critters are staying close — the don’t like that wind
share them here dood — tis the perfect thread for them
Denial, put off because of the cost — heh! I have a wedding to attend in September (mother of the groom). I have to face this fear and move on.
The coldest I have ever been is in New Orleans. When a place that wet gets around freezing it is nasty.
When I was maybe 3 or 4, we lived in an apartment with apparently really leaky windows; I remember the sound the wind made, sort of a high whining sound, and it used to scare the bejeesus out of me at the time!
dentists are a lot better now about patients with dental fears… my dentist back in california advertised that he catered to chickens and cowards… he had a wonderful manner that was very soothing and calming
*ouch* That bites totally…! *g*
Never been to Nola. But I have been to Chicago in late January.
this house is over 100 years old and almost all of the windows on this floor are original. can get drafty in the winter, esp if there is a southwest wind
until a dentist can do the repair, maybe, when in public, you could use the old Buddy Holly trick and use a chiclet…
Your experience makes me believe good can happen.
That is fucking cold. I was in Streator, Illinois with Ron a couple of winters ago. zero fucking degrees.
chicago winters
Chicagoland can be brutal. Haven’t been there in January, but have spent time on a couple of layovers at O’Hare in the past few years; going out for a smoke was just plain stupid.
I recommend prewinter window chalking…
i was so desperate when i found the dentist up here i forgot to be fearful.
Heh! Time to face reality! But thanks friend
tis to the point the windows are going to have to be replaced… and that this old place will lose some of its charm when that happens is what i think is my landlord’s fear
The Night of the Guitars – Steve Hunter
THAT Steve Hunter.
*heh* Wimp… Hows about where those frigid gales originate from…? ;-)
Yep. It hurt.
Suzanne, you know what’s on my mind?
Somebody in the previous post suggested that Thers stop saying “fuck” so much.
What the fuck is up with that?
Was that serious?
Hope all is well over there by you.
theme song to Secretary
I’m at that point. I want to have a beautiful smile at Jack’s wedding in Sept.
hey foxman — how ya doing tonight?
Oh hey Suze, the band found its singer. It’s only taken EIGHT MONTHS!
so now is the time :)
Cold .. try Winnipeg with a north wind .. this guy is from Hamilton and is a kick-ass harp player gone but never forgotten .. oh and good evenin’ all ..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NAie-UsI_A&playnext=1&list=PL0E2660038EBF471E&index=1
Yowza, that’s great!
Plus, I’m from NorCali. It is pretty ‘comfortable’ in this part.
I was there visiting an old roommate, and just walking around the city looking at stuff while she was at work.
When I got to Soldier Field, I quite literally thought I was going to freeze in my tracks.
yay!!! tis good news dood
As usual my dear, absolute impeccable fucking taste in music.
Mwah.
Smooch.
I more concerned about you having to endure the discomfort and higher cost of battling the outside cold blowing inside than what your landlord fears…
Interestingly, neither Pine Point, NWT nor the Austrian Alps compared to the Siberian gales that pound the Korean peninsula…! *gah*
hey tearloch — how’s your poker game?
Happy new year, Suz! I’m afraid to check in. It was 65° and gorgeous here today. I’d share it if I could!
I believe I’ll dust my broom
*smooch back* hey busted — you still at ng’s or were ya able to head out of the gorge to celebrate her birthday tomorrow?
Excellent ma’am.
Just got home from recording a DVD commentary track.
But it’s getting fucking cold in Chicagoland tonight.
sheesh .. two for the price of one… Mt Wilson with Bonnie .. listening to good music is so much better than looking up obscene words … :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pamUf1PTjdA&feature=related
i’m fine.. its not horrible and its the noise the wind makes that the critters don’t like… me, i like it when this old house creaks like a ship on a stormy sea
hey sb — good to see your fonts again :) how ya doing?
Got knocked out .. some fella hit a flush against my set .. c’est la vie
Wave to my cousin in Northbrook, would ya please?
sweet — i hear chicago winters are fucking brutal
Froze up like a popsickle here yesterday, went to town in that mess this morning and the roads were clear before noon. Heading to Edgefield Manor tomorrow for a couple of days.
Back to the Weasel den for a while after that.
Sounds like a place Stephen King could write some interesting stories in…
sweet — tell ng hippo birdies for me dood
Condolences on your jelly bean. (I chipped a tooth biting off a piece of thread while sewing. I was so mad!) I’ve had intermittent bouts of extreme dental fear and find the best thing is deep, yoga-type breathing. I inadvertently hold my breath and make the whole thing worse.
Ahh, ya sweetie, she laughed and said thank you.
What kind of speeds are ya looking at, Suz…?
oooo
OOOOO
Alright…
In The Skin
tis too pretty… tis more like a house in a romance novel set in the wild oregon coast with pretty pink roses that try to eat the stairs at the front deck
[waves to cousin]
Northbrook is only inches away (on the map.)
ag damn that is fine .. have heard before .. I learned it from Taj Mahal with refinements added by Mr Bromberg .. sweet stuff
Still flattened by the holiday whirlwind/chest cold/family dramas of the past month, but clawing my way to the surface. It was all good, except the sickness, but just tiring.
highest last night was only a 27… we’ve had a gust in the 90′s before
happy lucky 100th comment foxman!!!
Not long ago, one of my close friends asked me to pick her up after a dental appointment and drive her home. This particular dental practice was one of the sedation dentistry places. My friend was sooooo happy and chatty on the drive home, and later she didn’t remember a thing about it ;-)
Correct.
This is the time of year that I always regret coming back here from SF.
By the hair of your chinny-chin-chin… M’dear…! *g*
Those Chgo burbs all blend into each other on that map ;-)
*whew* it was too close
Anybody watch the President’s speech at the memorium tonight.
Sarah Palin’s?
I’m still looking for a dentist with a martini bar, but so far no luck!
evening, Suzzzz — firegods
This IS a thrill!
I’d like to begin my speech by thanking the unlucky 99 who preceded me…
* groovin’ in my desk chair * Yeah, nice one, friend!
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
I have been there and the place is absolutely gotgeous.
The Bay is right out the front window and the place is an old wood workers paradise.
Real, live, old two by fours, actual dimensions, cedar EVERYWHERE!
Rough cut timbers, the whole place is made out of old fashioned big assed dimensional wood.
Suze, some day you will have to take pictures of that entry room just inside the door, then they will get an idea of what I am talking about.
The place is old but I fell in love with it.
You know you are in like Flynn when Bailey the cat thinks you are OK.
Well if you’re ever in or near Reston, VA I can hook you up! ;-)
Btw, I loved that double sun pic…! That was some serious eye candy…!
Reston is where my dad lives! I’ll make sure my next dental emergency is when I visit him and take you up on the offer.
tis a gorgeous place and, so far, the pros have outweighed the cons of living here.
but those forking stairs are starting to weigh heavy on my joints. a good day is one when i don’t use the stairs
just getting started, eh Suzanne….sorry i’m late…been a long practice.
bailey cat is real skittish — she usually takes off out the kitty door int he kitchen the minute she hears anyone on the deck
Hear that.
This is the elmore I’m used to hearing – the twangier stuff. Yours was new, I don’t know why
Got my mojo workin
This still sounds good to me, years later
Freeway Jam
which one was that tut?
hey sir — how ya doing tonight?
hiya PPD
hey margot — did i miss you coming in? how ya doing?
;-)
I missed that too — hi Margot :-)
Too bad they can’t move the driveway up to the back door, you could hop out and be inside without the hassle.
doing well thanks – eating triscuits and cheese, listening to that elmore james that newton posted…life is good.
Oh yeah, that’s good stuff too. Can’t go wrong with Elmore.
Soon I think we need to have a clown car thread. We haven’t done that in years. waawaa.
*sigh* The cords of wood don’t deliver themselves, eh…? 8-(
less stairs at the back for sure…. when the weather is gnarly, token prefers to use the kitchen deck to quickly run downstairs to do his business and then run back inside. he then makes a bee-line for under the wood stove
I just looked around behind me, where the kitteh is trying to sleep on the back of the sofa, and it seems that she is disturbed by all of the great tuneage…
Jeff Beck is not even fair.
But Ana Vidovic is my new (current) fav comtemp player.
The top pic…! *g*
Hi Suz, hi LL and Senator and everyone. I’m in one piece, it snowed more, and it’s just ridiculous to watch hours of scrolling cancellations on TV. “Pleasant Grove Bible Study is cancelled”…OK. Now just say what’s open, it’s a lot shorter list: Bars and hospitals.
camel toe
oh yeah, i was very pleased with how that one turned out…. thanks tut
Oh my! Haven’t heard of her; fantastic sound.
oh gawd.
Heh — saw a lot of that on the AM local news…”so and so daycare is closed”, etc
oh lardy no kidding margot — they were running that last night during the 5pm news with all the closures because of the snow/ice and then the freezing rain in pdx.
Looks like a big taco. lalaalaalaaallllaaaaalaaaaaaaaaaa.
She just appeared all over youtube, I scooped them all up.
She is rather technical.
Asturias
As my grandma used to say, here’s some low-down dirty blues
I like that classical, baroque to my ears, kind of stuff. Nice :-)
hiya margot
oooo that’s sweet
That sure is some purty strumming…! ;-)
Rodrigo Y Gabriella
Nice. very nice.
glad you like, Suz — I love me some Lightnin’ Hopkins!
Another beauty.
smokestack
Shout out to a local boy whom we lost too soon
Danny Gatton
Frustrated musician here — took piano in my younger years, didn’t stick with it, aspire to learn guitar some day, but all I can do now is dig the sound…
She’s wonderful!
Wow, we match.
Man o man. That is gud.
I swear, as soon as I can (after I retire in a couple or so years) I WILL get back into the music in a hands-on way. It’s in my blood.
Danny was awesome, and hardly anyone outside of the DC area ever heard him :-(
Me, too!
Although, I did take guitar a few years ago. Learning to play it in my lap like a lap steel. I liked it and need to start going to the lessons again.
thatguy is a fantastic guitar player….i’ve got a cd of his and seen several utubes of him playing
I visited a client at her home last month, she is about our age.
She had never once, until a few weeks before, picked up a guitar. She decided to, and was playing well enough that it gave me some desire to do it myself.
Lennon said there are actually only 3 chords, and all are renditions of 3 Blind Mice….
I’ll second that notion…! ;-)
Hey folks! Today is an anniversary for me 4 years ago today the hosts of K S F O had a three hour program to “address the controversy” of their actual words getting to the advertisers. I called it “The Get Spocko Show”
It was surreal.
Two of the hosts have since been fired. One was promoted to the morning slot after the other two was fired. The side kick is still there.
Two sales people were laid off and the General Manager of the station resigned this year. And you know what my major problem with them was?
Violent rhetoric. Calls to hang journalists, kill liberals, Muslims and democrats.
If you read my post Who Profits from Violent Rhetoric? How can we lessen that Profit? You can see my other thoughts on this.
Monday I listened to the remaining host try to deny any responsibility. That the words on the right have no power. I wonder if they say the same things to the advertisers. “Our listeners won’t buy want to tell them do, they never act on our words.” Some how I doubt it.
I believe I’ve seen at least one of the u-tubes right here on LLN — and you’re right, he can sure play some good gee-tar
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight?
Way.To.Go.
That gives me some hope! I really do want to learn. My 15 year old nephew can play both banjo and guitar, and I want to catch up and kick out some jams with him sometime.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world, Spocko — nice work!

rockin’
I think that sounds like how I want to play it. I’m used to piano and i think it would be easier for my brain to grasp that way (and my hands)
wow
*perk*
New Riders of the Purple Sage :-) Love ‘em.
I have little hands so elected to try it that way. It was comfortable and I could see what I was doing.
yea, huh. And he is a great person.
:: rockin’ in solidarity ::
Yeah, I walked in the door of her place, and she started playing “Landslide” in another room. I recognized it immediately, and I thought, ‘Hell, ok, I can pick it up again.’
Pete Grant
Humbling.
eek, look at the time…gotta split, friends. Lots of great tunes tonight, and thank you all for that, and thank you Suz as ever….
g’night all!
I recognise only about half that list…! ;-)
nite LL
g’nite ll
John Lennon based the tune “All You Need Is Love” on the three chord structure of “Three Blind Mice”. George Harrison played violin for first time in his life on this.
Aloha, LL…!
Irish Music and Pete
‘night LL!
who’s gonna snag that elusive 200?
Careful, Suz…
Moi…?
I was talking to some people via email about the issue and someone said, “There should be a panel at NetRoots Nation about violent rhetoric and what we can do about it.” I said, well that was exactly the panel I proposed last year and it was rejected. They said, ‘Well you know you should probably have someone like from Color of change or Presente on the panel for their work on Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs, can’t just have white guys.” I said “I had both of them on as well as some from Media Matters. Plus, I’m Half Vulcan, doesn’t that count?
I think the thing that made me saddest was that I couldn’t tell them about my other background in public speaking. I’m pretty good at it, but I couldn’t tell them about my other identity. So I was just “some guy” who had no credentials and didn’t work for a real organization.
indeed — happy 200 tut!!!
And Ctuttle with the 200 score!! The crowd roars!!!
i was so pissed when i heard your panel was rejected. are you thinking of outing who spocko is?
Why couldn’t you tell them about your public speaking background?
…Plus, I’m Half Vulcan, doesn’t that count? …
That’s what spooked ‘em, spocko…! ;-)
Evenin’, all-
Hip deep in a grad school application, but wanted to delurk long enough to say hi…
hey rond — how’s the great swamp tonight dood?
*heh*
Hiya, pups. Blowing 55, gusting to 70, 27 degrees F in Wasilla Alaska.
hey et — how was your day? it is this here
You can have it, ET…! Brrr… ;-)
Dozing at my desk… time to hang it up. Goodnight all.
g’nite sb
Pleasant dreams, SB…!
I am off to bed. See you all tomorrow.
Aloha, Senator…!
g’nite senator
Nah, But if I submit it this time I now know people in the selection committee who could put in a good word for me.
You know Julian Assange? Do you see how they are treating him? Now imagine that it was a multibillion right wing noise machine going after him. Andrew Breitbart is buddies with one of the people I got fired. That’s right Andrew Breitbart.
I cost companies money. People lost jobs. Powerful people were annoyed.
I’m in the phone book. But it’s not crazy people I’m afraid of it’s the “sane” people who run corporations with teams of lawyers that really strike terror in my heart.
So you’re getting some decent winds too, eh?
I’m deeply involved in dealing with the death last weekend of one of my closest friends, the Seattle conceptual artist James L. Acord. Just off the phone with one of his friends with whom he had lost contact a few years back. She is one amazing scientist. She could build a hydrogen bomb in her sleep with one hand tied behind her back.
the winds aren’t as strong as yours are tonight. i’m so sorry for your loss et
So sorry about your friend. Tell your scientist friend to sleep with both hands tied. For safety.
We had big winds two weeks ago here in SF so bad it messed up out incoming power lines. The power didn’t die, but was very weak and variable. Because of we lost the internet, but also our oven wouldn’t light, the microwave wouldn’t heat water and the toaster couldn’t toast. Very strange. When PG&E fixed the power everything was peachy. Strange.
Man, I can understand your fear of these people. You are proof that there really is effective terrorism in this country….
wow, sounds as if the ground wire went out and ya had power fluctuations. that’s what killed my big tv back in june — turns out the ground wire connection from the pole to the house broke and partially fused back on. the power company paid to have the tv repaired with a surprisingly easy process.
Freezing, but just barely. My living room looks like a filing cabinet exploded, but I’m almost done. I’m applying for an assistantship as well. Go big or go home, right?
My condolences, ET.
worst that can happen is they say no–go for it dood
Man, Suz… There’s a boat load of rain brewing in the North Pacific…
Australia and Queensland is still getting whacked too…! 8-(
That’s it almost exactly! They said we had, “a naked ground” or and “exposed ground” or a “bare ground” Something like that.
What surprised me was how many appliances it messed up. The microwave? The Oven? It was just strange.
we are used to it up here but dayam, those poor aussies have been either feast or famine when it comes to rainfall lately. they are getting hit esp hard by la nina this year
we were really lucky that more stuff didn’t get zapped. just my 32″ tv and the cable modem and two wifi routers. there was a case about a year ago in a town north of me when every single electrical appliance in the house was zapped and tpud ended up buying the homeowners replacements for them all.
Thanks spocko, Suzanne, RonD.
Here’s the web site we’ve started just today. Here’s my tribute, posted late Sunday.
Jim refused to cooperate with people who wanted to start a wikipedia article, a web site devoted to his work, or post any of his numerous lectures on youtube. Sadly, it has taken his death to change that.
about time for me to head out folks. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight and for all the good tunes and conversations shared.
g’nite all
That is a great tribute, ET…!
Aloha, Suz…!
Great tribute Edward. A amazing artist. It looked like he worked across many mediums. I love the work he did in transmuting an element. I loved the reliquary boxes. That is some of my favorite art, the intersection of science and art.
