We still don’t know all the facts about Jared Loughner, the suspect held in the Arizona shooting rampage, and we may not for some time.
But right-wing bloggers knew immediately — right away! — that this anti-government goldbug who has been connected to an anti-immigration hate group, has an odd fixation on the Constitution and federalism and an enthusiasm for guns — was in no way a right-winger, and in fact, a total liberal.
While the bodies were still warm, Putz declared that the suspect “doesn’t sound much like a Tea Partier” (that settles that!) — while linking approvingly to Gateway Retard, who had also already concluded that Loughner was “definitely NOT a tea partier” and was “left-wing.”
Atlas Juggs instantly branded Loughner a “total lefty loon” and at the American Spectator, Phil Klein wrote, “At this point, we have more reason to blame the revolutionary writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels [than Sarah Palin] for what happened today.” World Nut Daily ran an article with the headline, “Assassin’s politics lean ‘left wing, quite liberal‘” which Conservatives4Palin dutifully parroted, “The Shooter Was Reportedly “Left Wing, Quite Liberal.”
And while all this was happening, Erick Erickson complained “the left is using this tragedy to score political points.” The Anchoress scolded, “It’s kind of disgusting when you hear someone is shot and the first thing you do is try to figure out how to fit the terrible news to your political worldview” and the Anchor Baby whined, “Twitter and the left-wing blogs — and now a Fox-bashing Democrat congressman — have gone completely insane trying to politicize the shootings.” Meanwhile, Matt Lewis, apparently not sensing the irony, scolded “prominent liberal bloggers” for “politicizing the horrific and tragic shooting of a congresswoman in Arizona on Saturday.”
Wingnut brains: yet again shown to be incapable of cognitive dissonance.
By the way, you can’t really “politicize” political assassinations as I understand the term. Politics are kind of baked into the cake.

My bold she’s the first Jewish female elected in AZ ever damm I thought my state was racist. I think we now know why the GOP targeted her.

The right wing, represented by the Republican Party, is completely out of control in this country. Peace
Via Digby, an incredible timeline of right wing eliminationist rhetoric and its consequences.
I do not speculate on what motivated the shooter, about whom I know little.
I dont jump to conclusions based on random and odd remarks from folks who supposedly went to community college with the shooter.
I just note: the victim was a democrat and the event was held by a democrat to talk to her constituents.
or did i misread the papers and see that the target was actually a republican tea party supporter or a federal building with a child care center in it?
Let’s get real about who is being targeted here.
I just watched wingnut Trent Franks whimper about Gabby and take Dupnik to task for using this opportunity to call out the haters, as if it was irrelevant. CNN and MSBNC (with KO as the only exception so far) are making me ill with their concern over the oligarchs and their safety. I saw Fat Candy or Jeanne Meserve be dismissive of Dupnik, who frankly has been the only one to tell the truth and explain the story in human terms. The clip of
FuckwadChuck Todd defending Palin’s crosshairs map makes my head explode every time.Leaving aside the left v. right battle that is now the big media attention grabber, here is a sample of the sentiment from abroad about the psycho-ward called the United States.
Lies lies
The Right Will never own up to the fact that they ARE inciting violence in Our Country!! They will lie, lie all the way to the grave…
Forget no direct connection to American Renaissance if he referenced them in his writings then he was influenced by them.
He read their anti Jew crap he shot a Jew what more do the Feds need before they charge a hate crime? I think the Families should personally sue American Renaissance and everyone who threatened the Congresswoman on tv, radio or the net.
Hit the right wing HARD, and hit them OFTEN, with this hate speech, and they will, for better or worse, finally have to decide to tone it down, or if all cards are on the table now and we’re nearing 1861 once again.
Fuck their whining BT. They ALWAYS whine. A day without right wing whining about something just isn’t a day. Doesn’t happen.
They intimade, and expect us to back down. Then they whine, and expect to play on our emotions, and expect us to back down.
No. More. No more dead bodies while they get away with their bullshit. Make. Them. OWN. Their. Rhetoric.
Now.
Another pointed comment from abroad.
More than any place I have ever lived, Tucson seems to cook up people who are able to hold several contradictory political views in their heads. There is a lot of odd libertarian/liberal cross-pollination.
Divide and conquer. Divide Left v. Right and keep everyone distrated while Wall St. cannibalizes the planet.
That’s an excellent point that you will never hear from our lapdog media.
Why did Palin scrub the crosshair map again. Anybody?
Not sure as to your point.
Their evidence that he is a total liberal is a lack of support for any liberal issues? he read Marx?
I read Nixon’s bio that doesn’t mean I like Nixon. I read one of Nixon’s books good writer straight to the point still evil.
This guys reading list is as fake as George Bush’s book reading contest with Karl Rove Marx and Hitler seems a little to heavy for a guy who went to but as far as I know did not finish community college.
People lie about reading books to impress people especially people insecure about their intellect like our former President.
No Lefty puts any Righty book much less Mein Kampf on their favorite books list. No Righty reads Marx and says its their favorite.
Tell me will Ann Coulter next confess to reading Obama’s book and crying over how great it was? Will Jane read Bush’s book and rant on about the genius of the Chimp?
If the only proof the GOP has that he is liberal is he says he Read Marx never mind he has no liberal positions on the issues or that he reads anti Jew, anti Immigrant news letters then the GOP is screwed.
Sarah Palin Aide Rebecca Mansour: Our Crosshairs Map Had Nothing To Do With Violence Or Guns
You can read their lies @ HuffPro
Yeah sure more fucking lies from Barbie Alaska..
Of course. Like the scorpion, they do what is in their nature.
Exactly. If it was above board, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, why take it down?
Can’t have it both ways.
Thanks BT.
I have seen exactly what you’re talking about on some college football sites.
What has been encouraging has been how many people are not buying that. They recognize this was the latest in a series of organized attacks.
palin’s hitlist is archived
http://takebackthe19.com/
She is afraid of being sued? She really wants to run for President someday and if Gabby dies that internet page could kill her chances of being President quicker than a dead gay hooker being found in her hotel room?
Gosh the Right is complaining about how mean we are when in AZ a state that wants to arrest Hispanics just for suspicion of being illegal we assume quite rightly as it turns out that the murderer had connections to a racist group.
When ever we are doing Right and being effective the GOP accuses us of being mean.
Here’s what I don’t get about the violent rhetoric, imagery, and symbols in our current discourse: even if this shooter never saw them and was in no way motivated by them, do these right-wing idiots actually disagree that NOW is the time to think about what’s wrong with our culture and toxic environment? Are they really opposed to the self-reflection the Pima County Sheriff asked America to take a moment for? Do they want to see more websites with gun sights, more campaign event announcements running together the removal of a Congresswoman with the chance to shoot a gun alongside her challenger?
Are they so dim, or so committed to the rhetoric, that they are unwilling to say, YES — now is a really good time, regardless of cause/effect, irrespective of who shot whom and why, to examine how we can improve our dialogue and eliminate violent rhetoric? Are we all really going to endorse the view of Chuck Todd when he interviewed Gabby Giffords last March, and said that the rhetoric of political campaigns long ago morphed into the rhetoric of war?
Or can we step back for a moment and say, for pete’s sake, that we can and must fix this? And that all of us have a hand in the healing?
I would have a better chance of getting elected President than Sarah Palin. Yesterday was the final nail in her political coffin. Just wish the news media would now realize that and leave her alone (thus sparing us of the bullshit we’d otherwise read or hear).
The morons also don’t understand that communism is the antithesis of liberalism and conveniently ignore that Loughner listed Mein Kampf among his favorite books. There is no reason to believe he actually read either.
Wasn’t James O’Keefe-The Teabugger Pimp-also aligned with American Renaissance?
Exactly you can’t have how many GOPers on tv, radio the net call for Liberals to be killed for years and then try and deny it. The GOP brand name is violence the GOP can say whatever they want the spineless MSM will not challenge them on their past statements of hate.
But they can’t convince anyone who hasn’t drunk the cool aide that this guy is a Lefty.
Hey look at me I read a Nixon book does that make me a Republican?
Let me guess:
The guy who assassinated Dr. George Tiller (“the baby killer”) was really a liberal.
The guy who was arrested before he could carry out a planned mass murder at the liberal Tides Foundation was also a liberal.
The people who vandalized Democratic congressional offices after the passage of the health care reform bill were liberals.
The guy who was arrested after making many death threats against Nancy Pelosi was a liberal.
The militia group that planned to kill police officers were liberals.
Peter King and others publicly calling for the assassination of Julian Assange are liberals.
A liberal is anyone who does something conservatives want to deny was done by one (or many) of their own.
Right-Wingers Rush to Label Arizona Shooting Suspect a Liberal — While Simultaneously Accusing Left of “Politicizing” Assassination Attempt</strong
UH..I think that is exactly what has been happening..
A conservative is someone who is on the wrong side of history and who has no capacity for self-reflection.
Just like her Alaska show one and out!!! Let her fade into oblivion!! She is not worth our time or breath!!
wheres John McShitty?…lying low…..very low
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20001170-503544.html
I don’t believe politics is relevant at all to the discussion whether he was liberal (not) or conservative (maybe). The right wing hate merchants have been peddling hate for years, couched in violent rhetoric now several politically connected people are dead. Those facts are indisputable not matter how much they try to distance themselves. Anybody claiming that the right wing hate speech didn’t have anything to do with it is pretending to have knowledge they do not.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh puleazzzze
your so rational
The GOP sees Fox News having to be less hateful and lying which means no adrenaline fix for the anger junkies.
The GOP sees us demanding the fairness doctrine returned. The GOP sees Cable Choice meaning how many Jews and Hispanics are forced to pay for Fox if they get basic cable?
After this shooting how many people would drop Fox if they had a choice? The GOP sees the families of the victims suing every GOPer who threatened Gabby. They see big GOP funders like the Koch brothers names being revealed as Tea Party funders and maybe funders of racist groups.
The GOP sees Jewish NeoCons defecting.
The GOP can’t ever admit they are wrong so they scream real loud nonsense that amounts to You are guilty too and I can’t here you la la la.
yup Annie big gullet Coulter too
Well, Teddy, that path leads to compassion for your fellow man, and the next thing you know, things like a public option and extended unemployment benefits won’t seem so loony and we’ll all turn into socialists. I think their agenda depends entirely on keeping people so inflamed that they can’t think straight.
You apparently don’t see the uh, tiny internal contradiction in that headline.
But…but…Nazis are leftists!
[/Comments at Gateway Pundit]
bingo
And American soldiers massacred a whole lot of the innocent little guys at Malmedy, France, (O’Reilly’s mouth)
But that would require them to refudiate people like El Rushbo, the Quitter, Michele Bachmann, the folks who spew this shit every day.
And they won’t do that.
Very well played, sir.
Remember, Hinkley tried to kill Reagan for Jodie Foster of all people.
It’s premature to bring political orientation into this tragedy. As much as people would like to find a reason to blame someone, it’s just too early.
but but but Mein Kampf is a librul book. You know – National Socialism doncha know
The point is, atrocities far greater than the one in Tuscon occur on a daily basis as a result of US foreign involvement, and yet little media attention is directed to it, much less outrage by the public.
Case in point, an event such as yesterday’s is generating heavy volumes of web traffic, yet the release of the Guardian’s story describing the Pentagon’s giving of a massive weapons factory to Al-Qaeda does not even reach the US press.
How the US let al-Qaida get its hands on an Iraqi weapons factory
I guess we’re supposed to accept that political gun violence rhetoric is totally acceptable until it can be proved beyond doubt that it led to shooting of people. Well I never will. It’s disgraceful that the establishment media does.
Exactly. The only people targeting Gabby Giffords and advocating violence against her were on the right. I actually heard Don Lemon on CNN last night suggest something like, well we can’t be sure she was the target, this could have just been a random event. And that was well after most of the facts had begun to emerge.
I like you very much BT but can we please not legitimize that particular assault on the language? ;)
You forgot the worst of them all IMO.
Glenn Beck shouldn’t be allowed anywhere within 500 miles of a michrophone, keyboard, or telephone.
are you kiddin, they pay those sociopaths collectively 200 million a year…they are celebrities ask Sir Elton John
May I suggest a project to address this issue? A timeline of all the political assassinations in the US in the past 10 or 20 years would be a very useful counter to the allegations that ‘both sides do it’.
Alice Hawthorne by Eric Rudolph 1996
Robert Sanderson 1998 by Eric Rudolph 1998
George Tiller by Scott Roeder 2009
168 people by Timothy McVeigh 1995
etc.
I think we’ll find that all of them were either civilians targeted by right-wingers or right-wingers killed in police actions (Ruby Ridge and Waco) and that none of them will involve any left-wingers.
It’s a project worth doing.
If you are racist you are a Republican? If you enjoy hate TV, Radio etc you are a republican not all Republicans are racist but all racists are Republicans. I’m paraphrasing Bill Mahr but I feel we need to stop letting the GOP define us.
They can’t get away with inciting crazy people to shoot us and then claim that the shooters were really one of our own.
Dems have to start standing up to the GOP the first step is disproving their lies.
The next step investigate every hate group the murderer belonged to and who funds them. We investigate everyone who threatened Gabby and boycott their advertisers.
The GOP loves money more than anything else so lets take away what they love.
yea i got a bridge to sell ya in Brooklyn
Wait — who’s doing that? This post certainly isn’t.
But as I understand it, to “politicize” something means to artificially insert politics into a non-political event. Say an earthquake or some other act of God.
A political assassination however is inherently political — even if the killer is deranged.
So the wingnuts’ objection is doubly stupid: they accuse the left of doing exactly what they’re doing, then they say the whole exercise is beyond the pale.
I still say “Internets” too.
The wingers are obviously slowly twisting in the wind. If they didn’t realize that they are complicit, they wouldn’t be howling about “I didn’t do it” like some 4 year old who broke the cookie jar. At some point they are going to have to defend every word they say and it no doubt will be on YouTube.
yes when ALL else fails
MUDDY THE WATERS……..throw spaghetti on the wall…whatever soundbite works, than repeat lather and rinse over and over
I agree. It took a long time to get where we are today. It will take a long time to undo this if at all. IMHO we have to change hearts and minds one person at a time. Maybe the golden rule still does apply. On a side note the objective reporting on this site brings clarity to the smoke and mirrors of the media today. My 2 cents worth.
So first, lets git rid of Olbermann and Schultz..in fact lets just shut down that vitriolic MSNBC all together..that is where I see and hear the HATE speech..And last but not least, lets get rid of that nasty Alan Grayson..OH YEA, we did
No its not premature the murderer read anti Jewish stuff and then shot the first Jewish Congresswoman in AZ. Coincidence? No!
With respect to 2nd Amendment solutions, here’s a comparison of gun violence in the US to that in the UK. And yet the gun lobby is still driving the agenda and factors heavy in election outcomes, whereby anyone advocating even limited gun regulation will see an outpouring of NRA funds to the opponent.
As Teddy just pointed out, IT DOESN’T MATTER. It doesn’t matter at all if Loughner just “happened” to kill Giffords and had never heard the almost daily drumbeat of violent rhetoric coming from the right about Giffords for the past four years. No matter what, it’s still an opportune time for everyone of every political persuasion to say OMFG, maybe we should tone it down a bit.
like the suicide bombers,ya think they go for the sanest disciples?
Sure I do…
Exactly.
That’s an additional irony — WE CANT POLITICIZE TRAGEDY — but when some nutcase Muslim goes off ITS THE JIHAD!
Yeah…. I won’t deny (ab)using “tubez”
these are murkan talibandites
There will be no “have you no decency” moment for them because they don’t have any. If this is their reaction to this tragedy, then I honestly don’t know what it will take. I call on liberals and progressives alike everywhere, especially those in the media, to NOT let them get away with this.
Comparing anything Olberman has ever said with shit Beck says everyday is like comparing…..
well, there is nothing even remotely close it’s so fucking absurd.
Showing your partisan intellect there, or lack of it.

That the US essentially planted a massive factory full weapons for al Qaeda to pilfer, directly leading to a prolonged war with a million and a half casualties, and no one cares to notice.
Well said. And we need to call out these loons’ misuse of the language every chance we get. Words have meanings. You can’t just spout out whatever suits you. We’ve heard about “Death Panels.” We’ve heard all the nonsense about some very modest, conservative reforms to the health care system being (simultaneously!) fascist and socialist. We hear from Canadian PM Stephen Harper’s administration that the Alberta tar sands are “ethical oil.” Now we hear that Right is Left, that Libertarian is Liberal. Conservatives have shown themselves to be shameless about twisting the language.
But we also must call out their enablers in the media. There is no excuse for “journalists” to allow this nonsense to go unchallenged.
sociopaths, they can say anything, cause nothing has meaning to them
There isn’t a right winger out there with the wit or depth of spirit who is capable of “defining” me, try as they might. It’s like a protozoan trying to define relativity.
jeebs,i never heard that before…wtf?
lol
No one cares to notice????
Are you aware that you’re posting on FDL?
Actually, I would bet on the protozoan.
In a head to head competition, sure but I was groping for an analogy not setting up a match. :)
yup – dilletantish salon prattle with big word obfuscations – that is mainly what I’ve heard from liberals since before I was a 21 year old 4 buck an hour cook in 1981 during the start of raygun’s reign of terror.
we do NOT call them – raygun, beck limbaugh, palin …- what they are:
lying bully fascist fucking scum
so they keep up with their lying and heir bullying.
rmm
i take it to mean that, without at all accepting this killers irrational violent action, he was not a member of the ruling class. It was telling to listen to some rightwingers, like the Govenor of Az. heap praise and kindness on on the Congresswoman, even though on a normal day she might join John Mcain to do just the opposite. we dont have problem of Idealogy in the US, we have a problem of class and an immoral problem of wealth distribution.
class creates ideology
Bullshit Sarah.
Don’t know what you mean. The Guardian article about Dominic Streatfeild’s research was just released on Friday. It’s considered an excellent piece of journalism. It hasn’t appeared anywhere in the US media, as the commenters in the UK predicted.
Sarah Palin: you lie!
http://www.mediaite.com/online/sarah-palins-twitter-feed-undercuts-sarahpac-aides-defense-of-crosshair-imagery/
I agree with ALL of that.
But IMO we ALSO have a problem with the amount of hate speech going over our airwaves on a daily basis, with perhaps millions of mentally unstable folks out there that this could resonate with.
You combine that with the several decades old long trashing of any and all gun control laws, and you end up with hate speech directly or indirectly leading unstabled individuals, individuals now with easy access to lethal weapons, to carry out violent acts.
This is a threat to ALL of us, in fact, more so to the not-ruling class. The ruling class lives in gated communities. We have to live out here, going to public grocery stores to buy our food to eat to live, wondering if that hate speech and those lax gun laws means that guy in the next isle just looks weird or is he a real threat.
I’m sorry, but this is as close to home as it gets IMO.
It will be interesting to see what McCain says about this. I know it will be addled at the very least.
precisely.
We’re joining the rest of the world.
lol. I was just thinking that! The old catch-22.
I had to do some map reading while in high school and college ROTC and that included orienteering – no map “site” I ever saw looked like that.
But you know that already I’m sure
Yeah I saw that at a different venue. Would have called bullshit anyway but Ray Charles could have seen she was lying about it not being “gun crosshairs”. She has the DC bubble arrogance down, that much is certain.
I gave a talk about the unguarded depots in Iraq back in late 2003. I cared, and predicted what it would probably lead to. Others wrote and talked about it too, but none of the first rank talking heads or print pundits even addressed the issue, from what I can recall.
She doesn’t want to give away her next target.
Absolutely..the politicization of this event is pathetic
The guy had a history of instability..Last month he posted something to the effect that he felt the need to kill cops
It’s clear that the shooter did exactly what Sarah Palin and Jesse Kelly implied that one should do. Where is the discrepancy?
I do. When I was in the Navy, I had occasion to go up to ops several times to talk to aircrew about various problems they were having with the birds. THEIR maps don’t look like that. Palin is full of shit and thinks the rest of us are stupid. If it was so innocent, why did it come down within an hour of the shooting? Bullshit again.
just wow,war crimes
Thank you.
You can’t have it both ways.
You can’t use violence and violent rhetoric in your politics and then claim violence can’t be politicized.
If the right wing had never ratcheted up the violence in their speeches over the last few years, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
So your feeling of pathetic is over the fact that your side got caught with its pants down.
Live with it.
Pathetically, if you like.
Of course he was unstable! Sane people don’t go around shooting people. That doesn’t change the history of the hate merchants out there or the fact that all of the eliminationist, violent rhetoric has been aimed at the left (pardon the pun).
Wasn’t that because we didn’t have the manpower to haul it away, which was cost prohibitive anyway? We went to war with the military we had, not the military we’d've liked to have? I remember something along those lines. /s
Jared Loughner subscribed to Gabrielle Gifford’s YouTube channel.
http://www.youtube.com/giffords2
The politicians will retreat within their Green Zones, while telling everybody to “tone it down a bit.”
Why can’t they pull the guns from the streets when a Congresswoman speaks, while they can humiliate everyone at airports across the country? Are they only able to deal with the imaginary threats while ignoring the ones that anyone can see?
This is NOT sane.
good question.too sensible and rational like Teddy,oh and chertoff cant make money on that
Creating police states requires a certain level of insanity at first. This will all seem perfectly normal by next election cycle.
They’d have their hands full trying to “pull the guns from the streets” in Arizona. I imagine this will cause the gun nuts to double down and insist that it’s a librul plot to once again try to take their guns away. I’m afraid Arizona is past the point of no return in that regard.
There’s a difference between being “crazy” and acting crazy.
What the Niagara Falls of hate speech – from an army of Father Coughlins, from would be neighbors and friends, from top elected officials at the county, state and federal level, and from their associated public personalities like Beck and Rush – does is give a thoroughly unbalanced personality a model to follow. It gives personalities unrestrained by normal inhibitions permission to act out according to the internal logic of that hate speech.
Yep. Rapescan or intimately grope people trying to fly home for Christmas but allow an unstable person to A) buy a gun and B) carry it into a public space. The scary part is Loughner didn’t break a single law until the moment that he opened fire.
I’m for gun ownership but with
A) Psych evaluations
B) Mandatory training
C) Can only be taken out in public to
1) Practice at a shooting range
2) In the event of a zombie apocalypse
Too sensible and rational, and the Democratic party leadership is made up of cowards.
Sent an e-mail to the WH this morning asking that the prez do something other than express “regret.” Noted that this administration is spineless and complicit.
It almost seems perfectly normal now. It is only afterwards that historians wonder why no one saw it coming and use it as a moral lesson to teach the children
So yeah…six people dead, a congresswoman in a coma missing part of her skull, and the right wing is whining about how victimized they’ve been by all of this.
maybe we should be there instead of Afghanistan, then.
The Right wing does nothing but promote the use of guns. Attack all if they do not have the election result they want, use targets, reload as symbols, fox asked for the death of Dr Tillman, then pretended it did not when he was killed. They have a habit of pure hypocrisy. They blame the others when they are caught in their own web. The most vial hate speech has come from the right wing talkers, and GOP candidates. Think Ms. Bachman, Ms Palin, candidates in Nevada, Arizona, and more.
Hypocrisy is always the game of the right wing which should actually be renamed the wrong wing.
Thank you. They are,
Sane people do kill other people. Every day. They wear uniforms, but they are sane by accepted definitions. They might be conditioned to regard those whom they kill as subhuman or religious monsters, but they are sane.
If it turns out that this person is judged clinically insane, then their motivation to kill should be examined, and may or may not include politics. I just think having rants and counter-rants about who is to blame politically is at this point premature.
Take our country back.
That’s loaded language-oh yes-loaded but it’s not overt. And yet-to take something means to steal or certainly to use some kind of force. “Our” means that those that have it are not part of those that own it.
Back means it was stolen, taken illegally. If something is stolen or taken illegally then the party that does that is to face consequences that are natural. They had it coming.
And this is the nicest language that the right wing tea party hatemongers use. And yet, I have to listen to the swill that tells me-”both sides are the same.” Oh fucking spare me. How’s that restoring sanity woking out Mr. Stewart? It isn’t and it won’t.
Until we can say Rush Limbaugh et all Sarah Palin are hatemongers and that they aren’t the fucking same as Ed Shultz and Kathy Griffin-then we will be telling the truth.
The swill of nonsense and the fear of the “blame game” also known as taking responsibility for what they really want and what they really mean continues.
Apparently you neither read nor follow links. You’ve repeated the same dismissive crap repeatedly and others have answered you. Back at the top of the comments list is a link you’ve completely ignored as it doesn’t serve your political agenda.
Read the link, Troll. Then comment on facts or get back to FR where you came from.
That’s like saying the killing of John Lennon was “inherently a music industry event.” And that all those bloggers who ranted about how the Beatles sucked compared to the Stones should be ashamed of themselves, and were somehow complicit.
Come on.
“dismissive crap?” Just my opinion. I thought that’s what this was all about.
Please respond to post 122. My opinion is you’re a troll.
Book Salon up with Eric Janszen’s The Postcatastrophe Economy: Rebuilding America and Avoiding the Next Bubble hosted by Scott Nelson
I agree. the White House has been totally absent for two years in this heated debate. they ignored the birthers, Beck, Bachmann, Palin and all other RIGHT WING HATE MERCHANTS when they had their chance. the idiots showing up at town halls and rallies with guns…ignored! Hopefully, yesterdays assassination attempts will prompt this president take on the hate merchants on right and shame them. That said, the white house is NOT complicit in yesterdays massacre.
My comments have to do with this event, and judgment about motivation that may or may not be political.
Your list may or may not be relevant to this event. We will see.
It will prompt him to create a new class of ‘crazy’ that will make the pharma cos. very happy.
It’s not my list. We see quite clearly.
And maybe everyone has noticed the “hippie high skuull pitcher” which is being used in lieu of more recent ones where he looks like an Aryan brotherhood type.
this from HuffPO:
GOP Senator: Rhetoric Needs To Be Toned Down After Giffords Shooting
Sorry, I just haven’t noticed many “lefties” shooting off either their mouths violently or guns here lately
Thank goodness leftwing bloggers at sites like firedoglake have reserved judgment, instead of reflexively blaming the shooting on rightwing rhetoric!
(Oh, wait … )
The right will never admit what hate and fear mongers they are. Bastards.
I agree. the White House has been totally absent for two years in this heated debate. they ignored the birthers, Beck, Bachmann, Palin and all other RIGHT WING HATE MERCHANTS when they had their chance. the idiots showing up at town halls and rallies with guns…ignored! To RU4862 and others…
I stumbled on this site by accident, and needed to comment after reading through this insanity. Before you think I am a troll, a wingnut or some other bible thumper, I am not. The anger on this site over this tragedy is nuts. A nine year old girl is dead. The guy who killed her should receive the death penalty. An elected member of our congress is fighting for her life, and a federal judge is dead. AND ALL OF YOU ARE BLAMING PAIN, RUSH AND BECK AND THE OTHER SIDE IS BLAMING DEAN,OLBIE AND MADDOW. wow. Is this how far we have come? The last days from must have felt like this (minus the 24 hour news cycle). You lefties (not dems) are just as bad as the kooks on the other side. Stop. Now. The anonymous posting by vitrol-fueled ignorance (on both sides), is appalling. Stop. Hug your kids. Kiss your spouse. Tell someone you love them. I am a true libertarian. I vote not the little d or r next to the name, but to the character of the person. Pro-choice? Yep. Against obamacare? Yep. Against big spending? Yep. For free community clinics for the poor? Yep. Pro our troops? Yep. Work on wall street? Yep. Thinks that teachers should be paid a crap load more money (but reduced pensions)? Yep. So shoot your venom at me. However, please note that those who have a different opinion are not the enemy. Closed minds and spirits are. We are AMERICANS. Both sides better wake up and start acting like it now before it is too late.
Sorry…last days of ROME must have felt like this
Someone calling his/herself “The Dalai Lama” says “The guy who killed her should receive the death penalty.”
Comment FAIL.
Conservatives are trying very hard to wash their hands and falsely portray Loughner as a liberal/leftist/Democrat.
Bloggers have latched onto a false rumor that Loughner is a registered Democrat. There have been no credible reports of his political affiliation or whether he was even registered to vote. The source of this rumor appears to be several posts made Saturday night by “David” in the reader comments sections of Yahoo! articles.
The New York Times reported that a woman claiming to be a former classmate Loughner tweeted that he was a leftist and very liberal, but no basis for those claims was provided.
Fox News has reported that a DHS memo says Loughner was influenced by a white supremacist/anti-immigrant group named American Renaissance that Loughner mentioned in several of his Internet posts. Further, the New York Times says that Loughner called a classmate a terrorist who killed her baby because the woman read a poem about having an abortion. Further, Loughner’s incoherent YouTube videos mentioned adopting a new form of currency.
If anything, Loughner’s themes of white supremacy, anti-immigration, anti-abortion rights and a weird obsession with currency make him sound like a Republican.
Would someone please explain to me why this sort of vilification, so plentiful in firedoglake, is not hate speech? Does angry, epithet-laden denunciation count as hate speech only if it comes from the mouth of a rightwinger?
When a yammering fuckwit encourages the shooting of their political opponents, and then it happens and a little girl gets killed, people will tend to hate the fuckwit’s guts. You could have figured that out yourself, I think.
Kelly — so you make a reference about my name choice and ignore the rest? Simple question: Do you agree or disagree with the UNDERLYING THEME of the post? Simple answer will suffice. If you are against the death penalty…great. State that point. Be clear on where YOU stand. Flaming someone for a name choice (chosen on purpose, by the way),is not constructive nor helpful. Thanks.
Markos Moulitsas had a “bullseye” list, too, and Rep. Giffords was in it. So what?! He obviously wasn’t advocating assasination, and neither was Palin.
OK, go ahead, make my day: give us at least one credibly-sourced quote from Reagan, Beck, Limbaugh, or Palin that advocates assasination of U.S. politicians of any political stripe.
Direct advocacy is not required for encouragement, and you are not ‘us’.
