The new Case-Shiller data of home prices for October show that prices are dropping nationwide more than expected. Continuing problems with foreclosure fraud and the end of programs like the first-time homebuyer’s tax credit which propped up the markets can be seen as the culprits.

Is the Military Preparing to Formally Expand the War in Afghanistan? |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday December 28, 2010 1:45 pm |
We know from Wikileaks cables that special forces operations are already occurring inside Pakistan, essentially expanding the war. But that hasn’t been widely reported. So the setup here is to say that the only way to increase security for good in Afghanistan is to expand the war into Pakistan and stop the cross-border attacks at the source.
Did UK Keep Brennan, Napolitano Out of Loop Before Terror Arrests? |
| By: emptywheel Tuesday December 28, 2010 12:50 pm |
The more likely possibility, given what Brennan, Napolitano, and Clapper have said is that the US–the entire government–was left out of the loop on this investigation. That’s certainly Britain’s prerogative. You never know when some Dick Cheney figure is going to sabotage a British investigation on them, after all.
Under House Republicans, Reconciliation Can Increase the Deficit |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday December 28, 2010 11:55 am |
This is similar to “Cut-Go,” the new version of paygo brought forward by House Republicans, mandating that all spending bills must get offset with spending cuts elsewhere and not tax increases. The entire House GOP rulebook greases the skids for tax cuts without any restrictions on how they affect the deficit.

The Unlikely Story of Adrian Lamo, Bradley Manning, Wired Magazine and the Federal Government |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday December 28, 2010 9:30 am |
You would have to have been f%ing r#*&rded to believe that in an era of unprecedented intolerance for press leaks of any kind, that the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, the NSA, the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the Cyber Defense Crime Center knowingly and willingly not only allowed convicted hacker Adrian Lamo to hold on to chat logs that contained sensitive classified information, but to distribute them unexpurgated to the press.
Bailouts Inflated Biggest US and Foreign Banks, Let Community Banks Rot |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday December 28, 2010 8:30 am |
I have so many problems with the narrative that TARP and the bank bailouts in general were an unqualified success that I don’t know where to begin sometimes, but a few articles out today should provide a good place.
Mike Huckabee Working with Foreclosure Fraud Scam Artist |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday December 28, 2010 7:30 am |
If you think of the Republican Party as an infomercial, former Gov. Mike Huckabee is the past-their-prime host looking wide-eyed into the camera about the latest product innovation. And now potential presidential candidate Huckabee is working with one of the mortgage fraudsters, one that the Federal Trade Commission has prosecuted for deceptive practices.
FDL Manning-WikiLeaks Key Articles Table |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday December 28, 2010 6:30 am |
Our latest challenge was the compilation of all media that contained source material to date. Since Lamo is by no stretch of the imagination publicity shy, and has given interviews to anyone willing to sit still, that proved to be a somewhat ambitious undertaking. We have now published a sortable table of articles relevant to the Manning-Wikileaks story, which we will continue to add material to. You can find that table here:
