The only part of this tax cut package that is overwhelmingly popular is the unemployment insurance extension. That thing the President got from the Republicans in exchange for agreeing to all the unpopular stuff. The thing the GOP needs to pass anyway, but don’t want to take shit from their base over. Thankfully Obama has freed them from that responsibility.

Tax cuts for the rich increase the money looking for returns in financial markets. That’s your retirement the rich are eating with these foolish tax cuts.

Last night, it appeared that Elijah Cummings would attempt to leapfrog seniority and obtain the ranking membership of the House Oversight Committee with the backing of outgoing ranking member Ed Towns. However, Towns reversed course last night, saying in a statement, “I support Carolyn Maloney to become Ranking Member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. She is next in line on the Committee, she has the seniority and competence to serve the Caucus well.”

If a majority of Democrats won’t vote for the Obama-GOP tax plan, Speaker Pelosi must not bring it to the floor for a vote. So let’s find out where Democrats stand. Apparently, the Republicans on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission have abandoned the commission because the other six members would not agree to ban the phrases “Wall Street” and “deregulation” from the final report.
