i’m freezing but the thermometer says it is 55 outside… i’ve had that damp chill thing going on all day. critters are keeping close to the fire, esp now that the breeze is starting. we may get gusts up to 50 tonight when this next storm comes ashore.
i’ve had a 93 since i’ve been up here… its when the gusts hit 60 plus that i start to tweak. the critters are adapting and don’t freak out as much as they did 2 years ago
Hi there Suz, CE and newt. It snowed a little at LM’s tonight, seemed like it would be slick walking on the street by now, but I drank some wine at dinner and went to sleep on the couch, my sister is here with me, so she watched LM and the TV.
Probably the eleventy-leventh and a half ring of fucking bankster hell. I called the president of the banksters office today and told them to pull their claws off the money. I’m not putting any more money in the bank if I can’t write a check. Yanno, the local bank where everybody knows your name. They made me take LM’s money the other day and put it in there, it seems to be a one way ticket to hell.
Happy Christmas bgrothus! I’m glad to be off work tomorrow, well, today. How is everyone spending Christmas Eve? Because we will be home (YES, MsCE and MrCE and me all around the fire with cheese and champagne) I hope that others will be happy too.
Thanks, ce. Christmas is not my favorite holiday. What I like is that people are taking time to be together. That’s what I like, and also, baking. I did not have time to shop except maybe a half hour this year. I did buy groceries and have been baking. That is what I had time to do, while hanging with LM.
I bought wine tonight. I decided to drink a little. Next summer gonna grow some greens for these nights, that’s what I decided. Don’t tell anyone.
Heh!
Years and years ago, MrCE bought me a grocery store holly plant, that we knew would die before planting season. Well, it didn’t die, and now 20 years later, that little holly plant gives me a room of holly cutting every December!
Baking is love — we all know that! Speaking of which, I’m off to sprinkle the last of Famous Grouse on the fruitcake and I’ll see you in “five.”
Even though my fruitcake had barely a week to moulder, it turned out great. I figured out that if I freeze it, I can cut thin slices of it. Otherwise, a lumpy fruity mess. Not that it affects how it tastes, but I think it is better if it is in neat slices that each little piece of fruit can be savored. The recipe I used called for orange marmalade and candied ginger. That is what sold me on it.
Yes, it can be a jolt. I remember that part so well. I still can see some of those images in my head, feel the feelings. I had a friend my first semester away who used to say, “I’ve been around, and I’ve been around twice.” I had not been around at all. It was hard.
Do not have much time to converse .. but I do want to wish all of you a peaceful holiday .. if you can find some joy, then embrace it!! .. show your true colours by putting others first when you can, as that is the true spirit of the season .. and know that I extend a *big, warm, manly hug to anyone who wants it* .. and those who do not accept that hug are probably the ones who needed it the most .. Felice Navidad, neighbors .. :-)
Well, The Jennifer’s going to rest up tonight, then I’ll join her and The Sweety in the morning to clear away a pile of presents from the tree and deliver them to family and friends.
We’ll lunch wherever they decide, but, due to government warnings, stay away from the buffets and salad bars.
I adore my kid. She can barely afford her Philadelphia life. But she won’t move back home to restabilize.
Suz, I didn’t even have to wear a jacket today. A hoodie yes, but that’s all. Then it started snowing a tiny bit.
I talked to my 93-year-old aunt, she’s a blast. She discovered I was a Democrat a while ago and she whispered, “I’m a Democrat too!”
Thanks Suz .. an FYI I dinna have a facebook account but come the new year I may expand my horizons, and if I do, you will be my first one I accept .. lol
Hey Margot, I’m afraid I have missed you this week. I had the same weather thing here, we barely had coats on yesterday and for the eclipse, but tonight we have a touch of that storm from CA. It is a little snowy and icy out tonight.
I like FB. I know some people really are afeared of it. But just this week (tonight even) I found an old friend. And LM was stewing about some people she had not heard from, so I found their son on FB, found out his folks are fine, their card came in the mail that day, and now he and I are also friends on FB.
It is a good networking tool. Lots of ways to organize and communicate on line. No wonder they want to take it away or charge us to use it. Fucking fuckers.
I am so scatter-brained, bg. I go here and there doing a puzzle, gettting coffee, etc. and I miss people.
I hope you don’t have icy driving to and from home.
The weather was totally clear driving today, but it was raining when I left home, so I did not put out luminarias this year, first time just about ever. I could not face the soggy bags when I get home, and it was too much to expect my neighbors to do it for me tomorrow. So I have a sad empty house this year.
I remember you posted that a while back. Yanno, Suz, I really have a huge admiration for the muppets now. That whole thing is so trippy, I can hardly believe it was made for children. I never saw much of them, b/c I don’t have children, but they are really over the top. So thanks for introducing them and re-introducing them again and again. I totally get it now.
for the left coasters — tonight is letterman’s christmas show which always ends with darlene love — iirc i featured her doing one of those shows earlier this month
I’m going to call it a night. I was awake most of last night in the eleventy circles of hell, watching dinosaurs on TV, so I am beat. It might be quiet here tomorrow, but if I don’t see you all, I hope everyone has the days and nights of happiness coming up. Gotta soak up the happy times we can have.
Mr. Obama is reading the biography “President Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime,” by Lou Cannon, aides said, and recently completed “The Clinton Tapes,” by Taylor Branch, who chronicled the 42nd president through a series of private interviews.
Despite all his time studying the Clinton administration, Mr. Obama told his aides that he had no intention of following the precise path of Mr. Clinton, who after the Democratic midterm election defeats of 1994 ordered a clearing of the decks inside the White House, installed competing teams of advisers and employed a centrist policy of triangulation. In fact, several advisers confirmed, the word “triangulation” has been banned by Mr. Obama because he does not believe it accurately describes his approach.
Suz!
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Freezing. I may as well be up there. How’s Netarts?
i’m freezing but the thermometer says it is 55 outside… i’ve had that damp chill thing going on all day. critters are keeping close to the fire, esp now that the breeze is starting. we may get gusts up to 50 tonight when this next storm comes ashore.
Builds character…
* ducks *
Though above freezing today, we had this superfine snow crystal blowing all over us — felt chilled to the bone.
i’ve had a 93 since i’ve been up here… its when the gusts hit 60 plus that i start to tweak. the critters are adapting and don’t freak out as much as they did 2 years ago
hey ce — is it that super sparkly snow cyrstal stuff? it looks so pretty but looks real cold too
Hi Chris! The REAL White Christmas!
i swear i didn’t mean it
Hi there Suz, CE and newt. It snowed a little at LM’s tonight, seemed like it would be slick walking on the street by now, but I drank some wine at dinner and went to sleep on the couch, my sister is here with me, so she watched LM and the TV.
Hard to believe it was so beautiful just a few nights ago when the sky was clear and the air was warm during the eclipse.
hey bg — how ya doing tonight? are ya still in the 11th ring of fucking bankster hell?
You are stand-up, bg
happiest of holidays to you and yours
I do love it. Each night there is just enough to make it pretty again.
Hey newt!
Yes, a real white Christmas. We are expecting more snow in two days. Love it!
*sigh* no white christmas here
If it weren’t so damned… cold, I would wish for that here.

Thanks Newt! Everyone here seems to be a stand up person.

ooooo the last of the grouse sprinkle…
The very last — back in five…
Hi firepups! I’m back in Texas for a week and taking a full week away from studying. How are y’all?
Even though my fruitcake had barely a week to moulder, it turned out great. I figured out that if I freeze it, I can cut thin slices of it. Otherwise, a lumpy fruity mess. Hey miss, how is school? Are you kicking their asses in classes?

Good for you. It’s an adjustment, you are making it.
Good to see you Cassie!
That was a good touch. They had it together.
Yum yum! Absolutely ginger and marmalade! My house is so cold there is no need to freeze, but I agree with your slicing.
tutu’s christmas joke
Major adjustment.
Hey, that Santa was in Santa Fe this week. A couple of people posted pictures of their children on drunken Santa’s lap. It was kind of scary.
Yes, I thought I was smart until I went to a college where everybody was smart, and smarter than I. It was an awakening.
animals of utube
So true!
theres’s that, but also culture shock and learning to be around people who are really different from me.
oh chronic tree
Merry Christmas y’all!
I’m sure. It is truly different.
i re-read your ornament post from last year today — what are your plans for the break?
The daughter’s home for Christmas. Now I really have the spirit!
Yes, it can be a jolt. I remember that part so well. I still can see some of those images in my head, feel the feelings. I had a friend my first semester away who used to say, “I’ve been around, and I’ve been around twice.” I had not been around at all. It was hard.
Hang in there. You will make it.
hippopotamus
Hooray!
hey robert — how wonderful! what are your plans?
OK Suzanne,
I have to sleep and get moving soon. See you LN or LLN.

Yea Margot and your aunt!
And, of course, I’ve replaced my green tea with egg nog….
i’ve got a quart in the fridge and picked up a bottle of brandy at the liquor store, a small wee bottle, to fortify it.
Hey Margot, I’m afraid I have missed you this week. I had the same weather thing here, we barely had coats on yesterday and for the eclipse, but tonight we have a touch of that storm from CA. It is a little snowy and icy out tonight.

I remember mixing Brandy with my egg nog many Christmases ago, only she wasn’t a bottle….

a house is only sad when it is empty

aw thanks bg. i think the muppets were created for the adults, just as the classic cartoons of years past were… dual storylines
