Zed!
‘evenin’ CT!
Congrats, Ron…! Your first…? ;-)
It was 2008, but man, I still grieve for Richard Wright, keyboardist extraordinaire of Pink Floyd. The music will never again be heard the way it should be.
*heh* I’m still grieving Lennon’s untimely demise…! ;-)
Nah. I think I got my first zed sometime in…2006, I think.
Strange off topic…is the Wayback machine broken?
RonD, Richard Wright’s sudden and unthinkable passing was a gut-punch for me as well.
Evening, Tuttle.
I thought you’d might’ve snagged a few…! ;-)
Kurt Cobain’s drowning was one for me…! 8-(
It just seemed so unfair. After almost 30 years of hostility, Floyd had finally had something of a rapproachment, and then it was just snatched away.
I thought that was a case of acute lead poisoning…
Ooh, that’s a kewl OT…! Aloha, applepie…! It’s LLN where OT is the topic, M’dear… I presume…? ;-)
Yeah. Used to be that we thought of the tweaky, thoughtful space-rock platinum monsters as ‘Waters-Wright-Mason-Gilmour’.
I still catch myself with that phrase.
I saw this magnificent Gilmour performance again yesterday, it all came rushing back.
I suppose a shotgun blast would be most acute…! ;-)
I tried to access an old website…all gone…disappearado!
One of the best repositories of suppressed information on the internet, The Memory Hole, has also disappeared. All you get is a note that says “server maintenance.”
It’s been that way for 6 months.
You’ve just gotta check out this ‘Walk on the Wild Side’…! A
ShitWhite-faced Lou…! ;-)Sounds like a good research project for the soon to be defunct web?
hey tut
the webcast of the eclipse for those who can’t see it (like me) due to clouds and/or weather
Hey, trapped indoors AND clouded over here – Thanks, Suz!
All The People
Who died . . .
They Died.
I’ve lost many in my time . . . too many.
Bless them all, one and all . . .
Names on walls, friends in my memory . . . .
Drugs, wars, motorcycles and cars . . . n illness.
Bless each and every one of them . . . .
Awesome, Suz…! I’m socked in too…! Even the Summit is fogged in…! 8-(
Thanks! Solstice! Yay!
Awesome. Thanks for the link.
Amen, Larue…! I hope this evening finds you and yours in good cheer…! *g*
Damn, I’m an idiot – you are speed-challenged, IIRC…
It’s his acoustic semi-solo of Shine On You Crazy Diamond from this show in 2001.
Eclipse beginning here – moon clear and visible an hour and a half ago – mist everywhere and obscuring moon – but I can see the first bite out of the moon.
I forgot though…I have cervical “issues” – I can’t sit and stare up at the moon while the eclipse happens! And it’s too chilly even here to lie down on the pavement.
I’ll go back out in a little bit to see the rest.
Evenin CT, Suz, Larue, and the rest of you fine good FirePups of the Lake…
may you all be well and enjoying the holiday and the approaching weekend.
In the mountains here in Northwest New Jerssseeeyyy! The sky is crystal clear, the weather is pretty cold, and that ole moon is as bright as fresh fallen snow. The eclipse has made it’s way about a quarter to a third way across…I am going to hang as long as I can and take some pics…
will post them if they come out ok…on my site!
..and in memory of a musician I truly loved back in my days living in Fairfax, California…and whom many do not know…Laura Allan
Rest in Peace sweet Love!
Aloha, edve…! ;-)
In My Life
watch lou & her ‘eek’ lips
Aloha, Margot…! Mahalo for that blast of ‘wisdom’…! 8-)
Laura Allan…sweet soul
Sang and played with some legends!! She never got her just due methinks!
Taught me how to play dulcimer and many other wonderful things, and she was just a youngin then….Sigh!
Watching the eclipse from our lake in Wasilla. Awesome. Zero degrees F, no wind. There are some cirro stratus hanging around the edge of the moon, but they’re keeping out of the way. Dogs starting to howl more and more. Strider is all quiet but curious.
This is some pretty cool stuff.
Pun-Meister…! How go’s…? I loved the way Lou handled that mike…! ;-)
hey CT, just clouded over here: luna no mas
You only need to go out every 15 mins or so…! Please don’t strain yourself…! *g*
Aloha, ET…! Animals can sense astronomical oddities…! ;-)
Yeah – I forgot til I’d tilted my head back for a few…sat down and leaned on elbows…still. The moon is very high at this time of night! Where it was at 10:00 would’ve been no problem.
Keeping an eye on the webcast -major impediment will be removing the curled up, purring cat on my lap to get up again.
Unfortunately, must go out to alley – front and back yards have too many trees to see the sky.
Hope the clouds don’t end up covering it…wanna see it turn red!
nasa tv is also streaming it online
aqui luna no mas en 30 minutos.
The animals stopped howling about three minutes ago. Should I go “uh oh”?
It’s usually the moon swallows the sun in the eclipses I’ve witnessed. I remember lighting matches under a piece of glass when I was in grade school in the 50s to make it dark enough to watch a near total solar eclipse in Seattle and not hurt my eyes. I ended up looking right at it without the glass.
Going back out.
BOOYAH! What’s UP?
dang, that’s hard on the neck. (partial clearing of clouds, back in action).
Last eclipse I remember, of the sun, we in the office I was in used the pinprick method in a piece of paper or card, IIRC. At least the lunar ones don’t require special equipment.
What do your dogs know?
well, at least it’s not earthquake weather.
You too? I’m looking for something to lie on that I don’t mind getting dirty to take back out with me.
Hey Firepups. Here’s an unusual one…
Happens once in a blue moon…so to speak.
Looks like you have to deal with a commercial before you’re allowed access. However,…
Going out again. brb.
une chaise longue, perhaps?
By the way fellow pups, I must make a plea for your to save your own eternal souls.
My previous band put out an album I believe some of you will like. You can hear some of the songs at http://www.myspace.com/rayandthedetonators. You can get downloads at iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby and other digital outlets. I’m not doing physical copies any more.
Now, by now you’re wondering “What this have to do with my eternal soul?”
It’s very simple. If you don’t buy my record (which makes a great digital stocking stuffer)…
YOU’RE GOIN’ TO HELL!
I’m just trying to save your eternal souls, y’all. Suzanne and NewtonUser both have it, and will tell you better than I how much they like it.
Happiest of holidays to you all! ;-D
In honor of the event!!!
love ya punaise. 2/3 gone now. I’m gonna walk out on the lake for the beginning of the total.
for punaise:
Wasilla eclipse
let’s hope so, my lakeside friends
some moons do explode
It’s good, I swear.
And I’m not going to Hell.
More here..
And prolly here…
They keep moving the feeds around. Danged propeller heads. heh
Brother Newt, y’all have been SAVED!!!.
What a beautiful wisp of a moon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6STQwYCY2MA
heading out too
…You’re Goin’ To Hell!…
*heh* You’re leading the way, TG…! Aloha…! ;-)
Gee thanks, Tuttle!
And thanks, Suzanne, for the webcast. You can make out the events through the usual clouds where I am (you know, where that “Home on the Range” person must have been stranded), but with all that fuzziness streaming by, no pix.8(
And everyone, have a happy time, whatever time it is.
Maybe it’s the way she sits upright at the piano, or maybe it’s that she has the blond thing going on.
Not terribly gifted, but still, peculiar magnetism – Diana Krall.
Aloha, pd…! If it’s any consolation I can’t even see a glow in the sky…!
Mahalo for your input this morn…! ;-)
Socked in here too. I’m sleepy but my astrooger told me if I went to sleep on THIS eclipse, I am thoroughly hosed!
Damn astroologer!
Last time this happened was 1633 and 50 years later, the bank of England was formed leading to today’s sucky banking systems.
Maybe this one will take it all away, but I don’t want to wait 50 years!
Approaching totality now.
Clouds parted, I’m looking straight up at a chocolate-colored moon. Wow.
I’m singing the hotel me song:
Hotel me when it’s over, hotel me when I can sleep
I can’t get the damn stream to work, is it Windows only or something?
They’re going off at Hollow Earth Radio tonight.
Must be the moon.
try this one dood.. the nasa tv feed went down just as it hit totality
hotel it on the moon tan.
Try this:
http://www.wpbt2.org/stargazer/
Moon in gauze shadow
We prayed “Begone, Sarah – Now!”
Strider stared at us
Rats! Cannot believe – cloud cover hid the whole thing! Stayed awhile, lay down on towel – caught a few glimpses and then clouds would cover again. At near totality – just a sliver visible.
But then, nothing visible. Just nothing.
Re: animals – the feral cat I care for came out to me…crying very oddly, in a way I’ve never heard her cry before. Then she sat on the edge of the carport pavement with an odd expression on her furry face. Prolly all my imagination, but since I couldn’t see anything, I petted and talked to her.
We have a beautiful clear sky full of stars here. It is wonderful. I love that people all over the earth are doing it together tonight. Very cool.
It’s just sitting there not nearly totality. I’ll have to catch it on youtube.
Hey, bgrothus! Are you at home tonight?
Ach! They are losing it!
You’re not getting the Stargazer page? It works for me.
nasa tv is back up
No, I am at LM’s with my brother. Thank goodness he was here this weekend, as we had a leak in the roof. We were able to take the ceiling apart, find and fix the leak (he fixed it), dried it out, and put the ceiling back together tonight while we waited for TEH moment. But the sky is perfect, and it is not too cold.
It’s back!
I’m told the entire alignment of planets is so unique the last time it happened was 26000 years ago.
Hmmm, who was around then with the technology to figure that out?
That was cool tj…! ;-)
I didn’t have any parting in my pea soup…! 8-(
thanks Suz.
say, btw, a propos, etc.,, any sign of spiderpaws?
I’ll bet on the Maya. *g*
Kaia cat has been in and out repeatedly, somewhat anxiously. Louis, his typical solitary self out there somewhere.
So, I guess I should be grateful I got to see that much, huh? Thanks for reminding me….just feeling frustrated because when I went out to check earlier in the evening, the sky was clear and the moon completely visible.
Sigh. May go one more time to see if anything clears again…no point until out of totality, though…how long will that last?
i’ve heard from her via email — she sent me the stargazer weblink earlier this evening
Pretty near exact now.
Have fun planet earth!
Oh, yeah…saw your Caturday post, and link…so Little Momma is in New Mexico, in a traditonal adobe house? Was that the message of the link?
When I googled 1633 AD, it says this was the trial of Galileo.
cool, say hi.
ES?
Galileo then Assange now!
WOW!
Yes, my father built the first adobe house in Los Alamos. It is more than 50 years old now. The ceiling in the LR is vigas and latillas, so we just took out the latillas until we could see where the leak was, then he went on the roof and fixed it. Amazing. Now it is all back together. My father was very meticulous when he put the latillas up, and I think we did not get it back as tight as he first made it. But it looks good, and no leak!
*heh* Definitely a downer year…! ;-)
Now there’s nowhere to go but up, right…? ;-)
Ok, I get it. Stargazer is in Miami, so that means we won’t have it here for another three hours, right?
Did you read Starhawk on this eclipse? She says it is a time of great rebirth, light.
Wouldn’t that be great? I don’t know how I can believe it. The world is so dire.
Wow. Sounds easier than a “regular” house’s roof leak. Wait, somebody here had a leak a week or so ago, with muuuuch more angst, I think. Trying to remember who…
Found a link at NYT that says the EST time to see the red-brown moon is at 2:16 am, so that’s about 9 min. from now.
If nothing’s visible then, I will give up and go to bed.
Eclipse
minus 5 F here now, but the detail on the shadowed moon is quite amazing.
Most of the rest of the house has plaster ceilings, so that would be worse. Two rooms have more traditional, and that had its advantage this time.
-5!!!!!!
I’d probably stay inside and watch the feed…..
will do — not heard from es since he headed off to do other things — some time after his trip to new orleans after the bp spill started iirc.
Behind the clouds and above the rain in LA the moon is at apex…12 o’clock.
I will have a good story for Caturday this week.
Ohhhh-I thought I was just missing his posts. Other things? You mean, traveling about?
ET is in Alaska and experiencing it at the same time as the East Coast…! I can’t tell about Hawaii but It should also be ‘live’…! ;-)
Kewl – look forward to it.
2:14 – I’ll go out one more time….
thx
“There is no Dark Side of the Moon, really. Matter of fact, it’s ALL dark.”
Some up-tempo Final Fantasy music performed on electone and recorder.
i think so…
chaching
here we are
there we were
I was being silly! Of course we all see it at the same time!
That is what makes this so great, everyone all over the world. I see the neighbors across the street have been up watching it too.
Pun, here’s ES’s FB page… It’s been a couple of weeks since he’s updated it…! ;-)
There should be a church for lunatics.
Yeah, it’s called Planet Earth, 2010!
Huh. A few weeks ago I got a notice he’d begun following me on Twitter – of course, he’s probably bored to death, since I hardly ever tweet….I followed him in return, and see the last tweets there were in May!
Hope he’s all right, and will get in touch sometime.
Oh, did I mention – last trip outside was completely futile. Cloudy and misting..nothing at all to see. Oh well; saw some of it. If I were working, I’d never have made it to stay awake for any of it. So, although I’m now thoroughly awake, I’d better toddle off to bed.
Enjoy, all. It’s good to have friends to virtually watch with. G’nite.
Or a church for non-lunatics.
Good night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Pleasant Dreams, tj…! *g*
On planet earth, it’s the lunatics that decide which is which!
A non-sequiter?
and which is rich…
Aloha, Ron, Sleep tight…! ;-)
That’s waht I said….
Star Wars theme – with a twist. The dark side won.
I guess I’m going to bed too. Tell the astroolger ferget it!
*groan* Btw, that’s a groan I almost exclusively reserve for the Pun Meister…! ;-)
Aloha, Starbuck…! Don’t let the bed bugs bite…! ;-)
:)
How come every time I hear that music (or variants thereof), I think of this?
CT, I guess it is still “early” where you are, and though I have such a great view of this historic moment, I think I am heading out. Glad to share a little of this time here with the FDLers. If you are still here Suz, have a good one.
Take care, I hope this is the new birth we would like to see.
you can sleep in because it’s the longest night of the year
hahaha, love to make people groan
Aloha, bg…! Belated congrats on the century mark too…! ;-)
*heh* Poor Scottie probably never saw it coming…! ;-)
The sun is about to re-touch the eastern edge of the moon. Probably in about 10 minutes.
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu and Happy Holidays…! Mahalo for spending some time here at the Lake tonite…! Aloha Oe…! *g*
