The Christmas Jug Band — Santa Lost A Ho, at the Masonic Lodge, Mill Valley, CA, December 21, 2009.
What’s on your mind?
This video is just pure spiffyness.
Suz!
Good job getting into the spirit!
Hey Pups!
hey hannibal — how ya doing tonight?
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Ms CE’s friend is driving from NYC to Cleveland tomorrow — his first trip outside of the east coast.
is he gonna have good driving weather?
I’m doing great, and yourself?
more jug
I hope he enjoys it. I always thought of Currier and Ives prints.
i’m flipping cold. tis 41 outside, i’ve had the wood stove going since i got home from dropping the car off at the mechanics earlier today. i think it only got up to 45 or so today.
hey margot — how was your day?
Hey Suz, great here. Rained most of the day again.
Here’s some really cool christmas lights, turned into a video game.
Yes for driving here — looks clear. On Sunday, not so much.
He is from Staten Island, and adorable.
had some bands of hail move through this afternoon along with some thunder — pretty much the same rain and showers forecast for the next week.
that’s a hoot dood
he should get there before sunday right?
That is flipping cold…! ;-)
Aloha, Suz and Pups…! *g*
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? i’m about ready to switch from flip to forks — weather dood is saying down into the mid to high 30′s tonight
Thursday night we hope!
A comfy 70 tonite…! ;-)
fork
I took older son to get a space heater. He said it never gets above 60 in his apartment!
what kind did he get?
Gah! Just looked at the outside thermometer and it is a snowy 16 degrees.
oh lardy ce — that’s forking cold!
fork live
Our high wind warning has been cancelled. They forgot to tell the wind. It blew over 80 last night. Temperatures got into the mid-teens F today.
Busy writing new music to be premiered in Unalaska in May, for trumpet, French horn, trombone and piano. On e piece is called Deadly Catch. Another is my second version of the Aleut myth on Volcano Woman.
hey et — is the new music gonna be available online also?
windy night
Sounds like Madame Pele in these parts…! ;-)
Btw, my latest post… Good Faith…?
evening all .. great skit and tune, Suz .. I love winter .. it gives “talking about the weather” relevance ..
Night Suzanne! I’m still thinking about St. John’s Newfoundland. I want to live there.
hey tearloch — how’s northern bc tonight? glad ya liked the video :)
we are going thru this melt and freeze phase .. I like 20 below and stay there .. crisp and clean and healthy .. that coastal weather and its damp cold setting in??
Good evening, Suz. Evening, fellow pups. It’s been a while.
g’nite ce
No Newfie jokes, tearloch…! ;-)
Bwhahaha…! *g*
I’ve got to find a way to get my music back on line. When Garage Band migrated to myspace I lost all my stuff available. My fault, in a way. I’ve got to create a new web page to host audio and video content of my work. I’m on youtube, but none of my music is. There isn’t time for me to do that and rant about politics too.
the damp is making its presence known :( the fire is doing a good job of keeping it at bay… as long as i stay in the living room
hey past — how ya been dood?
It was some kind of ceramic one, inexpensive.
It is universal along the ring of fire. The links between lava nurturing soil and a woman’s milk nurturing new human life are rich. The immediate comparison between a woman’s breast and the shape of a perfect volcano helps the resonation.
i like my electric oil filled rad on wheels. not tried any ceramic ones
Oh yeah?? .. what do you call 8 Newfies sitting around a table?? .. a dope ring .. most of my Newf jokes are long and funny .. that one was just short and accurate .. :P
Been extremely busy at work, 50+ hours for a few weeks on end – damn dealines. Have been falling asleep too early to to catch LLN live, but usually take a look during the day.
must boogie to my poker tourney .. be well .. stay safe and warm and feel the hugs others send yer way .. *hug*
nekkid bungee jumping
Maybe that’s why I’m so attracted to the Big Isle’s pair of 13,000 footers…! ;-)
I do like ‘em big…! ;-)
yikes.. that’s a lotta hours dood. are the deadlines behind ya now?
g’nite tearloch
evening, Suzzz
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
The chain of Aleutian volcanoes is unique. I’ve been on both your islands’ big ones. Then we dove down 60 feet below the sea where Captain Cook was killed. Ms ET, who then weighed about 95 pounds, got both heat exhausted and hypothermic that day. It ended well, though, as we stole avocados and mangoes from trees alongside the trail down to the beach, walking out.
No. The project just went in to review, with review comments expected back on the 22nd. Then about 2 weeks to finish up. I’ll breathe easier after that.
a wee bit of breathing room then, until the 22nd.
how’s your weather tonight?
doing well, thanks Suzzz – how’s the rain up north?
tis 41 and currently not raining. bands of rain so its not constant. had a wee bit of sun at sunset as the sun sank below the clouds.
Hi PPD
A cold wave came in last night, we got 2 inches of snow in the valley and about 10-12 in the mountains. It’s going down to about 15 degrees tonight.
Are you ready for Christmas? How’s the expectant daughter doing, will you be seeing her over the hholidays?
hiya margot
baby squash is doing well — she will be 23 weeks along tomorrow and will get a new size descriptor. i’m sure i’ll see jen over the holidays but we have not talked about dates… probably will be the 26th or the 27th (sun or mon) since those are my nights off
Kealakekua Bay is gorgeous…! ;-)
The Spinner Dolphins are awesome…!
hey ET
Beethoven’s 240th Thursday – today or tomorrow, depending on where you are.
Ludwig!
ludvig
Ooh, you’ve got the Xmas honors, eh…? ;-)
We saw a very big skate there. We were at about 25 feet and it was down around 70 feet, and came up to 40 feet to check us out. Whoa.
So much to feel sad about this Holiday Season: millions of new poor living in their cars or tents in one of the coldest winters in years; thousands more doomed to lose their jobs just before Christmas or shortly afterward; that postal employees charged with reading North Pole mail report an explosion of kids asking Santa to forget the toys and send them food, clothes, even shoes.
Of course, though all of these are stark in this new America by the rich and for the rich, none compare to the plight of Senate Republicans being held hostage by Harry Reid (a Mormon) and denied their Christian right to be with their families in their warm homes, enjoying traditional feasting, and the delight in the eyes of their kids and grandkids over the piles of toys.
I’m all out of tears.
i like that sonata, et. it is familiar to me but as a snipet — do you recall if was it used in cartoons at all?
roll ova, beethoven
eve and nite .. fri and sat i’ll be here :)
hiya CT
hey robert — still enjoying your new blog?
Sad, no…? 8-(
I’ve got Kwanzaa…! ;-)
Aloha, PPD…! ;-)
One of my favorites. Beethoven probably wasn’t the greatest of the classical composers, but he’s turning out to be the most evocative.
FESTIVUS — the holiday for the rest of us!!!
As far as my new blog, I’m not at all sure what I’ll be doing with it. Being Aquarian, it’ll likely evolve into something at least a bit unusual in contrast to the norm__something that touches upon all my eccentricities.
luck of the calendar dood — next year you will have christmas day night and new years day night…
ET — who do rank higher than Beethoven from the classical period?
I don’t think it was. My favorite Beethoven sonata. There are several versions on youtube.
oh lardy, i remember watching that film at the movie theater and the ushers rushing up and down the aisles trying to convince the other pre-teen girls to not scream when their fav beatle was on the screen.
don’t forget you can cross post your blog posts at your myfdl blog and indicate they are a xpost with a link to your blog at the bottom or top
The “Classical period” is 1750 to 1800 or so. Classical music is different. I don’t have a favorite composer, but J.S. Bach was probably the very greatest. Each composer that is appreciated adds something that is then shared afterward by other creators of music.
Last movie I watched before going into the Army in 1966.
Okay. Thanks.
on purpose?
No argument — Beethoven blazed new paths from the conventions that he inherited. Mozart is probably my favorite European composer from the past three hundred years.
Except for ABBA, of course.
ABBA caused my girlfriend at the time to insist that, if she was going to remain my girl, I had to take disco lessons with her.
After 4 sessions, I couldn’t stand it no more. I dumped the lessons and her….
Aloha, folks. I’m on the islands for a couple of weeks.
No. I watched it in Oberlin Ohio just before I left school there to go into the war. At the time, the movie Help made me want to go into the military even more. I was a seriously messed up young conservative kid of 19.
aloha jim — how’s your island tonight?
Mozart was the Shakespeare of the opera. Had he lived to 80 everything in Western music from then on would have been very different.
‘Tis wonderful and warm. Beats the freezing temps back home by a lot.
spent christmas 76 in honolulu — sure didn’t look or feel like christmas but the weather was great
happy lucky 100th comment jim!!!
Which Isle, Jim…?
Ah….
Wish I were there. Hawaii, not #100
We’re in the Waikiki area this week but head over to Maui next week. We haven’t been there before and our teenage daughters are really looking forward to it.
sounds like a wonderful family vacation dood
*heh* I think Mauimom will be in DC then…! I guess I’ll still bide my time to finally meet up with a Fire Pup, any Fire Pup…! *sigh*
How long were you in for and where did you spend your tour, ET?
you’re on the big island right?
Dang, I was hoping to run into someone. I think TBogg was over here but I forgot to contact him earlier to see if we could meet up.
I was in for two years and was posted at Fts. Polk, Eustis and Lewis. Trained as an aircraft electrician, but worked mostly as a clerk typist or doing bullshit tasks.
I was gonna mention TBogg’s visit to Oahu…!
Yeap, the Big Isle, Suz…!
Ft. Polk for Basic…?
’bout time for me to head out folks. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
g’nite all
Yes. “Bong the Kong!” road signs all the way from the airport to the fort.
I went to basic in Ft. Polk, November ’71-Jan ’72. A cold damp place that time of year. While you were at Polk, did you ever go to “Diseaseville” (Leesville)?
G’nite Suz. Sweet dreams.
Goodnight, Suze. You are the best.
We called it Sleaze-ville…! ;-)
I did. Diseaseville wasn’t as bad as Lake Charles then for shocking me over the separate accommodations for blacks and whites. You’d have thought my black friends were Palestinians, Muslims or Arabs.
Pleasant Dreams, M’dear…! *g*
I did my basic at Ft Dix, NJ, but, I served a year at Polk… ’92-’93 and I’d damn sure hate to have been Black back then…! 8-(
On a somewhat more organized note, here’s the bluegrass bosslady, AKA Alecia Nugent, bearin’ down on “Hillbilly Goddess” :o) :
