Miss Piggy and Rudolf Nureyev — Baby, Its Cold Outside, from The Muppet Show.
What’s on your mind?
Hope all is well with you.
Suz! Rudy and Miss Piggy put on quite a show in this vid ;-)
Hey Suzanne! One to two inches of snow, just lovely!
Howdy back atcha neighbor! Did you see the snow flurries this afternoon, around 4? I was driving home from Leesburg and saw a few flakes.
hey ofg — how ya doing tonight — you got quite a string of zeds going dood :)
hey ll — how’s va tonight? figured we could use some piggy vavavaroom
Yep, first flurries of the year I’ve seen.
I too was in Leesburg today, once again on a Friday afternoon, once again because my Mom (who’s NEVER had a drivers license) wanted to go shopping in Leesburg. Target to be precise, today. Right by the Costco.
Silly season there today too.
hey ce — snow!!! no rain here and i got some sunset pics i’ll be putting up later. along with baby carrot’s descriptor.
how ya doing tonight?
Aloha Suz and LLN Pups…! It’s been mighty soggy here with storm surges happening from both directions… Serious northerly surf and large amounts of rain from mountain-side…! 8-(
Doing well. Was playing around with someone supporting the Korea FTA in another thread for awhile, which was fun. But I think Jane canned him, either that or he decided to stop playing.
Guess I’m just glad it wasn’t me.:)
aloha tut — we are soggyless until mon nite — a rarity:) is that kinda convergence unusual?
Yeah, the traffic was awful right around there, at least on Rt 7 when I was headed into town around 3. Didn’t venture up past the outlets but I can just imagine it was crazy!
You figured right! ;-)
the paid troll cut and ran when jane called him out — he’s not very good at his job i guess
Howdy LL — how are you?
Aloha CT, and yikes that sounds scary!
Just fine Chris, thanks, how about you? Enjoying that pretty snow I’ll bet!
Oh I won’t hold that against him. I’m not very good at mine either. *g*
Super! I made some firelight pics on my new phone. I figured out how to send them via text message, but that’s as far as I’ve come. Sigh.
hehehehehe he didn’t realize he was dealing with the jane hamshers of the professional left yanno — we are way outta his league
i can do text message photos but only immediately after i take the photo — i haven’t figured out how to store them and send them later
i’m such a cell phone luddite
I’m texting back and forth with my niece tonight; she’s on the way home to Richmond from NC State to attend a funeral tomorrow – a young friend of the family passed away earlier this week. So sad :-( I told my sis that I’d check in with her periodically during her late night ride home. I believe this is only the 2nd funeral she’s ever been to during her young life.
She’s pretty sage, though, for 18 years old – during our conversation she said the world keeps turning.
Not totally unusual…! However, it has the same harbingers that spawned our ‘Great flood’ of ’00…
aw crap — good you are keeping in text with her ll
rut roh time?
We burn up the cell phone lines with texting, her preferred way to communicate ;-) The last time I was at my sis’s and my niece was home too, she was up in her room and I was down in the guest room and we texted late into the night. Cracked me up, we were in the same house and talking via text…
steph and i have unlimited text unlimited data on our cellphones… we are on the phone to each other either phone or text often
Monkey and the Engineer
Just have to share this one; this is the only song I think I’ve ever heard that mentions dispatchers ;-)
That’s excellent to be able to talk with Steph any time :-)
ohmystars… i’ve never heard dispatchers mentioned ever in a song
Thinking on the same wave — MrCE and I still have four living parents. We have never experienced a death in the family. And that is just so strange and anxious for us.
I know, right? Train dispatcher, but a dispatcher all the same!
lotsa train horns and other train sounds in songs but no dispatchers
What a blessing to have all of your parents still with you, and I definitely understand how you feel
((( Chris )))
It’s amazing how little respect ya’ll get…! You are the true first responders if ya ask me…! 8-)
Aw thanks CT — we get the respect, but just hardly any mentions ;-)
Well keep that streak going!!!!
LOL, that reminds me of something I happened to notice at a family reunion around the time my father’s dementia got so bad he had to be put in a home. I had never noticed it but thought it rather spectacular at the time. And really, it still seems to me it must be stretching the odds.
My father AND my mother each came from a family of 9 kids. So I had 16 sets of Uncles and Aunts. And by 2005 I think 5 or 6 of the 9 on my mother’s side had died. On my father’s side, he was the oldest, and the youngest was over 60 years old, NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THE NINE HAD DIED.
9 kids, and all made it well past the age of 60 just seems to me… I dunno, like it’s gotta be beating the odds. My father died last year and is still the only one of the nine to have died.
the crap dispatchers have to put up with…
my mom is the oldest of 11 and my dad was the middle of 11. my dad and all his siblings are gone — other than one dying in a car crash in the late 60′s, all my mom’s siblings were still around until my aunt rita passed in august. 16 days after my mom’s mom passed.
MrCE’s Dad is 90!
bwaaa-hahahahaha, I love this — a classic!
mf-in this, mf-in that….hee hee hee
My mom passed when she was 51 :-( But my dad is still chugging along and doing great at 74, and his father lived to 92, so we’ll have Dad around for a while!
hell yes i need a bambulance this mofo deer…
Ooh nellie…! That’d be one righteous call I’d not want to be handling…! ;-)
Heh! Let’s laugh!
The first time I ever heard that was in roll call many years ago; our LT at the time had it on cassette and we all just howled…
i know some dispatchers that wudda put the fear of the dispatchers into him instead of that deer
Evening all. I learned the 4 simple tests you do to look for stroke yesterday, when my 87 yr mom confessed to discomfort in her right side and her right side seemed wonky. Fucking old people!! :]
hey openhope — is she ok?
A teachable moment, eh…? ;-)
Damn right! I’m a gentle soul almost all of the time, but just watch out if someone tries to f*** around with me on a 911 call…
oh yeah (in best ferris bueller)
Hey, I think that I AM fucking old people! My god would my hip just stop hurting!
*sending naprosyn through the toobs for the hip pain*
i’m locked in my car
I pity the fool, M’dear…! ;-)
Naprosyn, yikes I used to have some for MsCE. Thanks LL!
Oh, oh! That is terrible.
Yes was she OK?
Spent another three hours with old people today. By the end of that time my cat was thinkin, “so many laps, so little time.”
i fucking hate my right hip. sumbitch aches if i sleep on that side and aches if its damp or cold or if i do too much walking.
ibuprofen and heat
Love the added graphics there ;-)
hey nonq — how was the vet appt?
Is your cat a pet therapy kitteh?
Right knee is MUCH better, thank god, and the left hip, super ugly.
tis my left knee and right hip….
Yes. For now. But it’s time to review our situation. Time for my folks to come live with us. Oh, shit. I’m clueless on how to merge our personalities under one roof. Mom’s no problem but Dad’s gonna be. My husband’s a true son to them.
Love will prevail.
Also, we made a family pact that anyone with Social Security gets buried out in the yard to keep the benefits coming. As compensation for services rendered. /s/
Fine, shots and routine check, and then we went to the senior center where she was a big hit and took to anybody’s lap for some gentle ear scritching. I think she even forgot about her food dish at home for the duration.
I turned 50 this summer and all of a sudden I’m starting to have the aches and pains :-( Suz is right, ibuprofen and heat, and naprosyn if the pain gets too bad.
that’s the spirit openhope — seriously, i’m sorry that it’s come to this — merging generations under one roof is difficult for everyone
or live in a state with medical marijuana
She was today, initially went to visit her previous owner who is 94 and wheelchair bound.
hey openhope, glad she’s okay for now. Please call 911 for her if you ever need to, stroke is what we call a true emergency and we can be there in a matter of minutes.
that’s too funny! Hi Suz, LL, Chris, everyone
hey margot — did you get snow like ce did?
Aw that’s sweet, I’m sure her previous owner was very glad to see her :-) Nice of you to do that.
Have you tried a Memory foam mattress pad? I love them. I finally stopped turning like a chicken on a rotisserie. They’re spendy but I don’t dread the long night anymore.
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
That too! I doubt VA will ever legalize it for medicinal purposes, at least in my lifetime. VA is stuck in the 50′s in many regards.
Hey Margot! :-)
i’ve been giving those temperpedic’s a thought… i’m a side sleeper and i flip back and forth — dayam tired of changing positions all night due to aches and pains
move *laughing* how many years until you retire?
It might come to that! ;-)
Luckily, we have a quality eldercare facility, nearby. You and your husband must be elder care trained to be considering having them with you. I know I could not handle it like that.
I had to go look.
Yes, a little dusting so far, looks so pretty.
Just saw your update — earliest date for me is May 2013, more if I go into the DROP program
awwww i like to think i want snow… but i sure don’t want snow that stays…
I have the same thing. Trigger point therapy worked miraculously for me…you can do it yourself. You get to know where your points are and badabing…it stops hurting…amazing. Isn’t Napros*n the same thing as A*vil? I can’t take any meds really, and after using the TPT, I don’t even need any. When I was in the hospital and getting PT, I had a terrible night with extreme pain in my knees, and the nurse got a terrycloth towel and put it into the microwave for one minute, and it stopped the pain almost instantly.
not that far off girl
Geofoam is what helped my sleep. We used it in the hospital and I finally ordered one.
hey ls — how ya doing tonight? i love heating my back buddy in the microwave and putting it on my right hip’s hot spot…
*channeling wmd1961* Careful Suz! ;-)
So close and yet it seems unattainable yet — they keep telling me time will fly…
i’ve used a geofoam pad for about a year. was great for the first6 months or so but i think i’ve wore it out. i’ve flipped it head to toe and still am aching.
maybe its the time of year and the damp and the cold or something.
I’m doing great. I’m walking all over the ranch by myself now with no help at all. I can dance, and I even jogged a little bit…just to see if I could. I could.
happy lucky 100 ll!!!
Hey LS! Yeah, naprosyn is basically some hopped-up ibuprofen. Naproxen sodium.
Thank you. I felt so supported from the time I called in my “this is kind of weird, but..” call to the doctor’s. The nurse stayed available until I drove over to Mom’s to monitor the tests.
1. Have the person smile. Lopsided isn’t good.
2. Have the person say a simple sentence, “It’s a sunny day outside” ,etc. Listen for slurring.
3. Have the person raise both arms over their head together. Doesn’t matter if they’re sitting down.
4. Have the person stick their tongue out straight. Pulling to the side is a problem.
Thank you, thankyouverymuch….
yay!!! *snoopy happy dance*
Exactly right, glad you know what to look for :-)
That is good to know. I hope she’s okay.
motrin is ibuprofen.
advil is naprosyn — i can’t take naprosyn — we don’t get along
You go girl! That is awesome :-)
Call this morning with hiring manager in England went well. I should have an on site with a couple of local engineers next week, plus a phone interview with another team member in North Carolina.
So two different phone interviews this week both leading to follow on interviews. Both want someone to start work before end of year.
Yes you’re right, late at night here and forgetting my training ;-) I had to take naprosyn once and it definitely didn’t agree with me either.
hey wmd — any idea of when they will decide? what’s your gut say about each job?
hi wmd, best of luck to you!
I can’t handle any of it. It sucks.
pot works very well with both bone pain and muscle pain. legalize, regulate, and tax it — just like alcohol
Fingers crossed double for good energy.
Apropos of nothing, I just love this song
For some reason I’ve been in a traditional country frame of mind lately.
You may need something more than a mattress topper can provide. They do wear out, I’ve had two.
See… One can learn something new everyday, if they’re not careful…! ;-)
No wonder I felt no pain for a few years in an earlier life.
is why i’m thinking of temperpedic — instead of getting new mattress pads every year
Both are attractive jobs.
I think I’m a better fit for today’s – I’m more oriented towards hardware architecture and getting software to fit than writing code to do electromagnetic simulation and parametric analysis. I’ve got the skills for either. I was reviewing Maxwell’s equations yesterday and was pretty excited about the need to do some serious mathematics as part of work. The work for today’s job would be helping people make their software fit cpu/gpu architecture and feeding back in to the software tools engineering is something that has been fulfilling for me in the past.
An earlier life, eh…? ;-)
heh – in an earlier life, I was too young to feel any pain. Wish it were legal here now, when I’m starting to get those aches and pains!
I’ll be really happy when I can medicate again. Almost a year now, last time I medicated was Christmas. I’m legal, but pre-employment discrimination is legal too, in spite of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
One of my friends swears by her tempurpedic — says she has never slept so well and so comfortably.
Here’s one I like: Coca Cola Cowboy
Maybe that was the wonder of youth?
When cartilage was cartilage and every vertebrae in place? :]
As for timing – well since both want someone to start before end of year I think a decision would be made within a week of interview, possibly within a couple of days.
Another good luck on that job prospect wmd. With my prior career choice and age I am fitting too damn perfectly into the long-term unemployed profile analysis discussed just about everywhere on the MSM.
i’m hoping the better fit is the job offer you get
Love me some Mel, thanks Margot! This is a good ‘un ;-)
sucks that you have to endure pain in addition to the pain of the job search….
A couple of decades ago, yes.
Good eating this weekend – Dungeness crab is $2.99 a pound this weekend. Had crab and avocado quesadilla for dinner. Crab chowder… crab, capers, asparagus alfredo with linguine…
How about some Western swing
I’m pretty psyched that the job search will be ending soon. And I’ll be converting to chapter 13, keeping house.
Niece is safely home in Richmond, confirmed via text, and I need to get outta here…thank you Suz and everyone, peace and love to all :-)
I’m being and have been very careful about regular weight-bearing exercises, walking, x-country skiing, what-have-you and watching my weight. Usually watching go up but, hey…
had crab boats bobbin on the other side of the spit past couple nights — crab boats mean its cioppino time!
I’m doing my Bob Wills imitation and bothering the dog. Love Western swing.
I’m starting to deal with “hereditary” issues. Fucking old people!!
Cioppino is good too. I’m debating freezing shells for stock as well as crab meat. The price is too good to pass up.
fucking old people is no way to deal with heredity. It was old people fucking that did it in the first place.
Oh yes, stock is good. Sure stinks up the house, though.
i can get fresh crab at the market in netarts that was swimming in netarts bay earlier that day. but i love love love kendra’s cioppino — takes me several days to finish off one take home order. gotta remember to ask for extra garlic bread when i treat myself to an order.
I resemble that remark.
Cioppino sounds wonderful, I’m generally doing a chowder. Do you ever get out to harvest your own fish? Is that something you would even consider on the coast where you are living?
Can get it fresh in Santa Cruz too. You know that though.
hey openhope — i’ve been meaning to ask — did that power failure up there during that last cold spell impact you? i heard some folks were without power for several days…
i haven’t done any fishing or crabbing or clamming even though the bay is prime for all 3. no equipment and no permit so i shop for the local stuff at the local hangouts.
i swear dood, it tastes better up here.
I’m probably going to be also, but the combination of Belgian and Polish genetics seems to be providing some physical advantages thus far. I am just under 59 years here too.
Wow! Jane is getting tough with the UAW, Jimmy Hoffa’s union. I support her 100 %. And, I congratulate her on the defeat of the Catfood Commission, which she and she alone named.
hey wigwam — how ya doing tonight?
i thought hoffa was teamsters?
Great. It’s been a rough week. Not enough sleep. But that’s gonna change within the next hour.
it has been a week of ups and downs for sure. i’m dayam glad its over
You’re correct – Hoffa was Teamsters (trucking).
Are the permits something other than a normal sport fishing license? Something like specific area quota regulations to prevent over harvest? My sport fishing license just has daily take limits and size limits for species and specific seasons for different fish, so not to interfere with spawning.
i’ve not checked out the rules up here. i know ya need a crab permit or a fishing license but not sure of the difference between them.
i do know, from my former downstairs neighbor the state park ranger, that they strictly enforce the license/permit rules — as strictly as they enforce the hunting rules.
Not sure on permits/licenses. But equipment for clamming is a shovel and boots.
You get geoduck clams up there?
geos in the bay wmd — i’ve not gotten boots nor a shovel yet. i’m still in transition from being a burb’s kinda gal to very very rural.
besides, i’m a natural born klutz who comes from a long line of klutzes and i know i would slip and fall — probably on my right hip
Buying a license is a good way to support fisheries. Fees generally are dedicated for F&W personnel, both for enforcement, habitat conservation and research.
I’ve known people to buy migratory bird stamps even though they didn’t intend to hunt waterfowl (both for the stamp and to support US F&W).
I’ve not had geoducks, but I hear they’re tasty (texture is different from other clams, and size is off charts – a single clam can be over a pound).
Kind of curious to try them some time.
Crab permit is for crab only. Salmon is for salmon only. It’s commercial crab only now. The scariest crabbing.
they are huge — way to big for just me to eat. i get the little razors when i buy clams for chowder or to add to the leftover cioppino
Exactly! A crazy week:
- Catfood Commissionrealtor pronounciation
- Bush tax cuts
- Korean trade deal
- Obama’s embarrassing self-blame for DC’s lack of “bipartisanship.”
- Obama’s humiliating freeze on Federal employees.
A damn crazy-making week.
In a week or so we’ll be able to walk on water and go ice fishing. First ice is the best fishing. Traditional and cultural phenomenon in the midwest.
I’ll quit quizzing you on fishing, sorry, I do like eating them more than catching them, but. Thanks for your ever gracious hosting and conversation. I’m off to dreamland.
sport crabbing is open in California now. I don’t know about the license/permits here.
g’nite nonq — i liked your quizzing
’bout time for me to head out myself. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight. hope to see ya tomorrow for cartoons.
I’m going to sleep myself. Seafood talk was fun. I’m happy that it’s a bountiful crab season this year. Last couple years harvest was down, price was up.
Mercury News was mentioning a lot of krill was bringing in whales (and unfortunately leading to boat/whale collisions). My intuition says there’s a correlation – that the offshore small invertebrate population explosion explains the bumper crab harvest.
good night all.
Baby it’s Cold Outside
Baby it’s Cold Outside
But, how cold is it?
Suz, do you know if folks went to the other blogs where the paid trolls were working their magic and exposed them for who they were, and whom they work for?
Good morning, pups. Its Ms. Collins and Mr. Blow today. Ms. Collins has a question in “Arizona Strikes Again:” Remember all the talk about pulling the plug on grandma? Well, look at what’s happening in Arizona. Appalling doesn’t begin to describe what Gov. Brewer has done. Mr. Blow has an excellent suggestion in “She Who Must Not be Named.” He says The left talks about Sarah Palin more than the right does. Why feed the machine?
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and my new cast iron pans got here so I’ve got popovers for breakfast with lots of butter and your favorite jam. I’m going to fortify myself with more tea because our list of errands today is starting to resemble the Bataan Death March. Take a piece of the fudge I made yesterday — it’s in the container on the counter next to the jam. Have a great day.
NB: The correct spelling is “Baby it’s cold outside.”
Har!! Excellent video… baby it IS cold outside with the nasty crummy politics going on in our nation… thanks for the laugh; needed it.
glad ya enjoyed it and the laugh, onitgoes
whoops — where you were at 10pm when this went up? :)
