What a profile in courage John McCain is.
Mr. McCain did, however, suggest some flexibility. “I am not saying this law should never change,” he said. “I am simply saying that it may be premature to make such a change at this time and in this manner, without further consideration of this report and further study of the issue by Congress – for of all the people we serve, one of our highest responsibilities is to the men and women of our armed services, especially those risking their lives in combat.”
A delay in repealing the ban, however, would potentially decide the issue for years to come. House Republicans, who will take over the majority in January, have said they would not be interested in approving legislation to authorize repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’
And that’s what this is all about. He wants to play four corners so that gays have to say in the closet just a little bit longer. Just to screw Obama.
Country first!

The Trojan
condomHorse President is forcing an International Arrest Warrent for the apprehension of Julian Assange for having sex without a condom. But Assange was only obeying the Pope. Didn’t the Pope say rubbers can only be used by
pedophile priestsMrs. McConnellteh gays?Good morning all.
Employment Friday.
I just sent an email to the WJ guest from Catfood Commish:
Speaking of condoms.
State Dept emps have been told not to read or access wiki leaks docs. Ditto Columbia U. democracynow.
Good Morning
Did they say Why they couldn’t read them? I think it’s wrong for government workers to be told what to read, but students at a university? That doesn’t make sense to me.
John McCain sez U.S. force is performing exceptionally well in the warz. Gee. Losing 2+ warz at same time. What would they have to do to perform badly, also lose the war not yet started in Iran?
Because they are classified & reading them would break the law. It was just in headlines, not a full story.
Oh, what tangled webs we weave…huh?
dn is hosting debate about pros & cons of wikileaks. Greenwood vs. Steven Afterwood.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Man, they’re sure pulling out all the stops to keep people from seeing these things. Not. Gonna. Work. Now peeps who weren’t all that interested in them will be searching them out.
Greenwald
That’s what I’m hoping. Tactic of ignoring the first leaks seemed to work out better for the USG.
Ooops. Thanks. Was thinking Greenwald while listened to intro of Afterwood & my fingers had a mind of their own.
After being down last night wikileaks now being hosted in Switzerland, according to tweet just received by dn.
Sounds like a pretty good reason to print copies and put them in everyone’s mailboxes…
It also sounds sorta like book-burning before the fact.
But…it will expose our
vast criminal enterprisesensitive diplomatic negotiations.Man, Krugman is all over Obama this morning.
About as bad as it gets
New Wikileaks site link.
Today’s candidate for oxymoron of the day.
How many times have you wished that someone giving testimony to a panel of Senators would just go for it and call a duck a duck.
RichMilitaryDude: You, sir, are a bigoted jackwagon!
McWeirdLeftCheek: hum-n-uh-hum-n-uh-hum-n-uh incoherent raging outburst!!
RichMilitaryDude: Y’know, in military terms, I outrank you.
McWeirdLeftCheek: red-faced shaking indignant snappy retort!
RichMilitaryDude: You’re a waste of my time – this country’s time, really.
Krugman:
Also, Assange live chat.
Heh. I’d like to think my pressing Krugman on the matter a couple of months ago sped up his willingness to criticize, but prolly not. Even the hangers on around the edge of the PTB, like Krugman, are getting fed up.
Sounds almost like the Professor is giving his blessing to a primary challenge.
Shorter Afterwood: Wikileaks sometimes makes mistakes & hasn’t stopped U.S. warz yet. So they are BAD.
Guardian site is working but sez it’s experiencing technical difficulties. No doubt in my military mind that somebody is trying to pull a denial of service stunt.
The last few days have seen a massive move away from Obama on blogs that typically supported him without question in the past.
Maybe Obama is completely adrift with the departure of Rahm./s
Unemployment climbed to 9.8% in November. NPR headlines. Nice job deecee.
Double heh. Bet DoD & Al Gore are sorry for ever having invented the internet.
Is there somebody out there who isn’t a neoliberal?
The Obama Love that was once so evident at the HP is now seldom seen. Even those who were staunch apologists are pissed, and rightfully so.
The Guardian says it’s heavy traffic http://twitter.com/guardiantech
Ooops.
I’m listening to dn on another window, but quick glance suggests a much below expectations. Emp grew only 39,000, and private emp only 50,000. I think triple digit rises were expected.
Well welcome to the party. Better late than never. But where was that support when it really mattered, when it really could have made a difference?
Hear that, Kos Boy?
I think it was the combination of the Catfood Commission bullshit with capitulation on extending tax cuts for the rich. I have been amazed at how fast and deep the turnaround has been.
FDR welcomed the hate of the Republicans and Obama craves the love of the Republicans.
What do you think of Howard Dean.
And, ot, a NY rep gave a one minute speech regarding the tax cuts bill and he used your Leona Helmsley metaphor.
39,000 doesn’t even qualify as anemic…not even a blip on the radar. However, the Preznint will undoubtedly be trumpeting it as the (however many) straight month of job growth. Ergo, the recovery is just kicking ass…
Columbia students are being warned that if they post links to wikileaks or put info from them on personal sites, like facebook, they won’t be able to get federal jobs.
Or, he will look under his desk at the next Correspondents’ dinner for the employment gains, and after not finding them, will chuckle.
They should take that as a challenge and start posting anonymously on the web. Fuck the Columbia brass…
and the clowns in the audience masquerading as “journalists” will roll on the floor howling in laughter.
I’d rather see Dean back as head of DNC but at this point I’d prolly support him for prez.
Don’t worry. Geithner is negotiating for us.
Then maybe David Gregory will do a little dancin’ with Karl Rove…really make a night of it.
Check.
Can’t we get some D who’s a little fatter & lamer (well, admittedly, that would be hard to find) to join KKKarl?
Somebody needs to clue CNN in.
Are jobs coming back? Signs point to yes
What’s this “CNN” thing you speak of? /s
Maybe, but you’d have to send out a search party to find ‘em…
dn segment now on death of network neutrality. Too depressing for words.
Did they turn into a bunch of lame watercarriers, or what?
I don’t want to believe they actually said that shit, but there it is, right on the Interweb Machine.
There’s more work to do. /s
I don’t imagine Turner is any too happy about seeing his brainchild turned into dogshit…
Are they using a Magic 8 Ball?
Free dinner and open bar, they laugh at anything. May I sigh now?
Well, to be fair, free dinner and an open bar, and I might laugh to. But, maybe for different reasons. :)
Let’s see, John McCain would be 80 the next time he’s up for election so it can’t be further teabageer challenges he’s worried about. He must be a gay hater, his daughter’s protestations to the contrary notwithstanding.
Who is it who sez Le Sigh?
Speaking of free dinners, I’m having guests tonight for pork roast. You’re all invited.
Well, that wording kind of implies my guests are pigs and I’ll be serving them up on plates for others, but it tickled my funny bone after I typed it, so not gonna change it.
Hey, you. You must be feeling better.
BTW, I forwarded a message from revbev to you.
Or maybe that torture included …
Someone who frequents LLN? Maybe Larue?
I would love some pork roast. Unfortunately, the private jet’s in the shop. But, thanks for the invite.
Yes, I think it’s Larue.
My private jet’s in the shop too, otherwise I’d pick you up.
On a private note, I have some happy notes. Besides looking forward to dinner, my wood stove problems have been solved at no additional cost and my driveway resurfacing project is nearing completion.
Be well. Got stuff to do.
Oh, before I go, I just switched to cnbc, and was informed that Mr. Andrea Mitchell just came out with a bullish outlook for the economy cuz stock prices are up. He was on cnbc earlier this morning but stomach wasn’t strong enough to watch.
Well, uncertainty has been lowered. /s
Hey John! It was a STRAIGHT guy that set the Forrestal on fire, remember?
You aren’t kidding! Fine bit of excoriation there.
Obama and his Republican
opponentsallies will look anywhere they can to make the chump change add up to enough to ensure that the wealthiest Americans can get their tax cuts. They seem to think that the economy and the middle class are expendable. And, yes. We are seeing what Obama is made of.
Strong words. Unfortunately, it’s the party’s base that will have to look elsewhere for someone who will run against Obama in the 2012 general election.
SD, Thanks for point out the Krugman article.
I got it, thanks. :)
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Good. Don’t ya just love the intertubz and how we can connect and care?
I’m off to start my physical day. The virtual one has started well. Thanks to BT and all. Take care.
More details on this please. I abandoned all these sites months ago, and am not gonna go back to find out about them, but I’d love a report from anyone who’s surfed there.
Margaret, I was thinking the exact same thing. What the hell is his reason for doing this?
BTW, hope you’re feeling better.
Increasing number of posts against Obama’s strategy and tactics on DKos, Drum, Atrios, Digby, and the like — responded to by increasingly sarcastic comments in agreement.
Really, quite a stunning turnaround.
Some better, thanks. Not cured by any means but improving.
Nothing but intolerance on McCain’s part makes sense. It’s just like Obama. We know he’s not a stupid man and he must know he’s ensuring that he’s a one term president so his motive must be that he intended all along to adhere to the Republican principles of all for big business.
Example
Kevin Drum: I’ll repeat something here that I said at a talk I gave last weekend: basically, Obama has another two or three weeks to prove he’s not an idiot.
Most Highly Rated Comment
MG: I sense the creation of a new measurement of time: the Drum unit. After every Obama capitulation, every instance when he ducks away from a fight, Kevin and a few other wet spaghetti spines will say, “OK, it makes sense this time because… but NEXT time he’ll have to get medieval with them, or….”
People don’t just turn on a dime. This ain’t Harry Truman we’re talking about here — Truman had a track record of being able to play hardball and knock heads before his brilliant campaign in 1948, when he excoriated a “do nothing” Republican Congress and tore Tom Dewey (the best Republican candidate for president since TR, I might add) a new asshole every day. Obama has NO such record; in fact, he has the exact opposite record. Expecting this puffball to turn into a man in a few weeks is like expecting piss to turn to gold in midair.
And 12 Drums make a Friedman? Honestly, our “intrepid” media…
Second most popular comment
R. G. Price: No, the time has already passed. Obama isn’t going to call them out, because there is no strategy “to make work”. Obama has been using the Republicans as cover for the fact that he wants the same things they do. He could have fought various fights if he wanted to, but he didn’t, not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to.
There is no solution here with Obama. If you are a progressive then you have to recognize that Obama is (and I hate to use this phrase) “the enemy”. You may as well just think of Obama as Bush Jr., because in terms of policy agenda, they are no different.
The only thing Obama has done is suckered millions of liberals and progressives into supporting him as he has perused a continuation, and in some cases escalation, of Bush policies.
I’ve been saying for a long, long time that the only reason Obama ran as a Democrat was because he was bright enough to realize that he’d never go anywhere as a Republican. It’s just a label to him.
Krugman’s piece was a funeral oration. I know him. He is generally hopeful, and would hold out to the last if he thought there was a chance Obama could recover. The man is shot. Maybe Biden can take over.
There is a HUGE consensus now around what most FDLers have been saying for months. Matched with a HUGE fear of where Obama is headed. The challenge is to harness it all BEFORE 2012.
‘Are you now or have you ever been…’ I love it. I’m old enough to remember. They went after my father’s friends.
Yeah, I cheered when I read Krugman.
My sister was all over my case last fall after I posted that graphic of Obama on Facebook with the caption “No guts, no glory.” She said I was a “far left wingnut” but I wonder what song she’s singing now. No, I won’t ask.
Yet FDL is still dismissed as “the looney left” by one side and “firebaggers” by the other. I guess we’re one of the very few oases of intellectual honesty left in the country.
I find that the comments on most left-leaning blogs now mirror those on FDL. There is disagreement surrounding precisely when his tactics no longer made sense. FDLers tend to think they stopped making sense early on. Commenters on other sites tend to think he went off the reservation more recently.
My point is there is a huge opportunity here — if it is played properly.
True. Even Daily Kos is sounding more like FDL every day. That doesn’t stop them from reflexively dissing us though, since that had become popular in the bad old days when we were the only left leaning site to see the truth.
FDL may be considered a modern day variant of those folks in the thirties who became known as “PAFs” (Pre-mature Anti Fascists) – often centered around those who fought against Franco in the Spanish Civil War
I agree.
There were a lot of people back then (Prescott Bush) who thought the fascists were just the bees knees. Even after the horrors of fascism became crystal clear after the war, there were a lot of people (Prescott Bush) going around and saying that we fought on the wrong side.
Wonder if Marcos is still vying for a job in the WH.
Thanks for the updates about other left-leaning sites, such as the Big Orange. Like many others here, I stopped visiting certain sites quite some time ago due to the blinders they insisted on wearing about Obama & the big Dem majorities in the House & the Senate. Glad to hear that they’ve finally awakened & are smelling the coffee.
John McCain sold his soul to the devil some years ago (prior to that, he was only a duplicitious bastard, who sometimes did the correct thing). McCain has no morals, no values, no ethics, no authenticity… he is a despicable creature, like most of our pols, who will do *anything* to play his part in the Kabuki show. Like most of the wealthy in our nation anymore, the serfs can just get f*cked. McCain’s full of sh*t and doesn’t really care what happens to citizens OR the military; it’s all about him anymore. Creep.
heh… good question. As far as I’m concerned, Moulitsos can go work in the WH and see what it’s like. I think he’s a stooge.
