The incoming Chair of the House Armed Services Committee Bud McKeon wants to revisit and expand the 2001 AUMF authorizing our war against al Qaeda.

Constantly reversing yourself on every major issue facing the country for political expedience is extra Mavericky! Oh wait, McSame was never a Maverick, that’s right.

Coming Soon: Congress Revisits Authorization to Use Military Force |
| By: Spencer Ackerman Monday November 15, 2010 7:15 pm |
As I tweeted and wrote for Danger Room today, the incoming chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Buck McKeon, briefly argued in a speech today that Congress should “reaffirm — in statute — the Authorization to Use Military Force of 2011.” To expand on that: McKeon mentioned the AUMF in the context of detainee policy — that is, to keep terrorism detainees out of federal courts. But it clearly goes beyond that. Here’s what a McKeon aide told me.
Re-Foreclosure, Counterfeit Notaries, and Petrified Lawyers: Tales of Foreclosure Fraud |
| By: David Dayen Monday November 15, 2010 6:30 pm |
The other day, someone alerted me to this Boston Globe article about “re-foreclosures.” In some cases, the banks can obtain a successful eviction and control the property, but find themselves unable to obtain title insurance that they need to sell the property. So they go back to the previous homeowner, give them back the home, and try to foreclose on them again. Welcome to America circa 2010.

I really believe rock ‘n roll can change the world. Can, has and will. Well, okay music, because before there was rock ‘n roll there the waltz, jazz, samba…all forbidden, scandalous, shocking and prone to cause dancing which could lead to more horizontal and well as cerebral activities!
My musical revelations and cultural epiphanies coincided with punk rock; I cut my heart on it and just kept going. And as an Angeleno, I am proud of our SoCal music tradition from the early days of Crenshaw Avenue jazz combos through now, which is why we feature a lot of punk rock movies with lots of local heroes and history on movie night
DADT: A Political Disaster Entirely of Obama’s Making |
| By: Jon Walker Monday November 15, 2010 4:20 pm |
The political disaster isn’t that Obama promised to end DADT, tried, and failed. He promised to end DADT, yet refuses to doing anything about it despite having the power. The real political disaster in his handling of DADT is that it has proven to an entire community that the president will promise action to one group, but do nothing to actually advance the cause — rendering all future promises suspect.
Bowles-Simpson: The Unequal Marriage of Reaganomics and Rubinomics |
| By: Eric Laursen Monday November 15, 2010 3:45 pm |
The Bowles-Simpson plan isn’t a fair and equitable way to reduce the long-term federal deficit, whatever its co-authors might claim. In fact, it’s the biggest proposed experiment in supply-side economics since early Reagan.
