Late Night: We Are All in the Gutter, But Some of Us Are Dancing with the Stars

By: Thers Wednesday November 17, 2010 8:00 pm

So a 67-year-old man with bipolar disorder shot his TV in the face with a shotgun because he disliked the performance of a contestant on a stupid reality show competition. This is Big National News because the contestant in question was Bristol Palin, a young woman idolized alike by the Christian Right and Supermarket Tabloids [...]

Dem Senators Want Major Changes to HAMP

By: David Dayen Wednesday November 17, 2010 6:45 pm

So here’s a major breakthrough in the foreclosure crisis and in particular the failed HAMP program. It doesn’t mean anything’s going to happen, but it means a significant chunk of the majority caucus in the Senate wants a radical overhaul of HAMP.

Unemployment Insurance Keeps Middle Class Families Out of Poverty

By: emptywheel Wednesday November 17, 2010 6:00 pm

The CBO report makes it clear that unemployment insurance is not about a bunch of poor people suckling at the federal teat. It’s about keeping families from slipping into poverty.

Nevertheless, the GOP will continue to mobilize classist and racist narratives to make sure this useful benefit is not extended.

Steps Must Be Taken for Funding Mediation and Legal Services for Foreclosure Victims

By: David Dayen Wednesday November 17, 2010 5:29 pm

This is the lifeline of the foreclosure fraud crisis: funding of mediation programs and legal services attorneys. By: David Dayen Wednesday November 17, 2010 2:45 pm
