Sand animation by Kseniya Simonova set to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: Winter, Budapest Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lamberto Gardelli. Film by Ferenc Cakó.
What’s on your mind?
Zed! Hi, Suzanne!
My, how the world has changed in the past week or two. I’ve been out of commission due to this and that, but I watched Olbermann and Rachel tonight and they seemed rather hostile toward our Great Leader. What’s happened?
hey rond — well done! how’s the great swampland tonight?
Hey RonD and Suz! Hope to see Petro tonight.
hey wigwam — how are ya tonight?
Hi Suzanne. How’s the Oregon coast? Been a bit chilly but beautiful otherwise in the IE.
hey loohoo — how ya doing tonight?
Most excellent – how funny, was just talking with Rayne earlier tonight on the twitter about Vivaldi, and VOILA!
Obama really jumped the shark today, going from ‘How can he be so clueless?’ to ‘he’s just plain dumb: the “Peter Principle” on steriods!
wind died down and it quit raining :) fire going to chase the damp away with both critters curled up next to it
Lovely, thank you. About 60, Cold front coming in, maybe high 40′s, then back into the 89s again. How’s Oregon? A dear friend of mine is about to move out their for graduate school.
Everyone wants Obama to get tough with the republicans, but it could be that he’s playing them like a fiddle. *Low probability*
But it truly is crazy the repubs are taking the positions they are. This is a time to run dem commercials.
hey kelly — how’s denver? i saw that and snickered since i had this post all queued up for tonight
Hi Loo Hoo!
hey robert — how ya doing tonight?
whereabouts in oregon? portland?
Stinker! LOL! Twitter = Public Email 140 Characters at a whack.
Damn…can’t remember the name, but it’s a small teaching college. Offering in-state tuition to out-of-staters, as a recruitment incentive.
G’ late evening, everybody!
was hoping you would show up and appreciate the eye and ear candy
hey mzchief — how’s your side of the coast range?
Staying dry indoors. Noah’s flood has reincarnated into Central Pennsylvania….
I was fascinated by MSNBC tonight.
First of all, Rachel made it clear that there is a strong sentiment for a second round of the civil war among many of the Southern persuasion. IMHO, the Iraqis have their civil war to finish, so let’s bring our troops home in case their is continuing sentiment to finish ours. You know, second-amendment solutions, and all that.
And then there was Obama and his fixation on bipartisanship. Olbermann expressed his undisguised disgust, but Rachel nailed it with her comparison to the epic Twilight Zone episode, “To Serve Man.” Rachel was deadly without showing any expression of personal disgust.
In Luck! ;)
Highwayman – Johnny Cash-Willie Nelson-Waylon Jennings-Kris Kristoffersen
Folks have to forget Shruyba and the dishonor he has rained down upon Texas. He was just there from out of town to take what wasn’t his. The above folks (RIP the ones no longer with us) were there because they had the love and respect for the place.
i’ve always loved that song… and the stories in it
The Music performance is quite good. This is from a professional music curmudgeon. :)
The Sand Painting thing is after that Bulgarian woman (I think if I recall correctly) started it. Nice. But I really only care about the Vivaldi. (Surprise!)
I’ve come to the conclusion Obama has developed an almost stalkerish love for the Republicans; maybe Stockholm Syndrome….
she’s ukrainian — winnter of ukraine’s got talent 2009. i figured those violins would appeal to ya more :)
What about this point of view – Theorem: People Only Do What They Want To Do.
So what if Obama is only doing what he wants to do?
Hi Honey, I’m ho-ome !
Hah! That’s the one. Nonetheless, you capture me. Vixen.
Wow! That’s sweet. I’m really enjoying our pets.
I let my wife’s bird out of her cage early this morning, and she flew into the living room, landed on my hand, did an immediate about-face, flew about four figure eights through the room, and then flew back to her cage in the other room. It was very charming, something like: “Hey, daddy, look what I can do.” A behavior I’d never seen before.
honey! how ya doing tonight?
*smooch* now where’s my pie *laughing*
Suz !
It’s raining cats and dogs up here … thankful it ain’t snow, although the Skiers think differently … *g*
I think what he wants to do is not serve another term as President. Perhaps he only wanted to be elected to get in the history books. Does anybody here on LLNFDL see any clues he actually cares about anything besides the Republicans?
Wow, Suze, quite a clip! I love the Vivaldi, but being more visual than aural, I suppose – the sand art is just fascinating.
awww was it her first time out of the cage?
hey tejan — glad ya liked it. how ya doing tonight?
*Cough* … is a certain Musical Genius gonna regale us with Yuletide toonz anytime soon ?!!
Huh – so Eight (years) Is (not) Enough?
Doesn’t strike me as Presidential…Hmmm
Wigwam !
How’s it goin’, eh ?
Well, it’s been that way for a long time. There is a small minority that would vote to reinstitute slavery, if given the chance.
Whoo HOO! Como estas???
Whodat? Belch is painting the damn piano room this week. Maddening. Can’t practice.
wow! She didn’t break anything??!
{{{ Loo Hoo }}}
the only civil war i’m interested in is the football game between oregon ducks and oregon state beavers this week…
And then he puts Geithner in charge of negotiating the tax bill? In my view, that signals Obama’s complete surrender to the forces of darkness….
Maybe that’s his thing. Maybe he doesn’t care about the agenda. Maybe he wants to be remembered as the President who reunified America, at whatever the cost, and all else is secondary.
*putting on tinfoil*
maybe he got one of them offers he could not refuse horse’s head thingies
*taking off tinfoil*
There seem to be two camps on this. There are those who think his heart is in the right place, and those who think it isn’t.
If you’re in the latter camp, like me, you think that bipartisanship is an excellent cover for doing the right-wing things that he is doing and is inclined to do, given his oft mentioned hagiography of Ronald Reagan and his dependence on Robert Rubin’s Wall Street money.
If, however, you’re of the former persuasion, you empathize with his frustration with the intransigence of the Republicans to whom he has repeatedly reached out in good faith only to be rejected and reviled. But, if that is so, I have to ask: “How long does it take this clueless MF to get a clue?”
Suze — I’m good…not working again, temporarily, I hope, so I’m awake. Fell asleep early the first few nights, now sliding into normal night owl mode.
Petro! Hey, one reason I am good is that I’ve found a good yoga teacher! Class is “Healing Yoga,” and teacher herself has MS. Occasionally says she can’t do such-and-such, but still pretty damn good. My age, thereabouts, with a yoga teacher daughter.
Wish I could take a class every single day. I feel so good after class! I want to preach the gospel of yoga to every person with pain!
How’s that workin’ for him? Jezeuz, he comes off anymore to me as the most subordinate and cowering president since Buchanan…
i find Vivaldi sort of trite. flame away.
Yeah, the old time-y chiropractors recommended it too.
…and into Ohio, too. Very very wet here.
Hi all!
hey chicagodyke — how ya doing tonight?
I’ve thought about that theory many times. Imagine if the NSA under John Brennan’s orders got access to Senator Obama’s telephone conversations with say a young lady. Can you imagine Michelle’s reaction? Is she a woman any man would want to face under those circumstances? Can you pronounce the words: “Bobbit procedure”?
{{{Hugs}}}
I have seen such miracles from people practicing yoga/meditation, that I can’t help but teach/preach about it to anyone who will listen.
Tell your yoga teacher to contact me about her MS … some imp. info to share if she’d like to hear it.
Heh. I’m kind of trite. Merry Fucking Christmas. Flame back.
hey margot — how ya doing tonight?
Margot !
the unruly lounge lizard!!!
Ah. The Bill Hicks Hypothesis-immediately after his inauguration, the new President is shown a film of the Kennedy assassination, from an angle nobody has ever seen before. “Do you have any questions, Mr. President?”
pretty much… gotta admit it has crossed my mind more times than i wanna admit
Actually, this Chronicler of the Obama Administration for OpedNews for almost two years has come to the conclusion that our president is just plain stupid…
People of that persuasion seem to have overly much say in Dixie politics.
Nice tone on that piano plus someone did a good job on the positioning of the mics. Top shelf playing.
RonD !
Methinks Obama’s mistake is similar to Big Dawg putting his faith in Congress to do the right thing. NAFTA was supposed to be the future of all FTAs but turned into one BIG clusterf*ck because Clinton left so much up to Gingrich & Co.
The Dems need someone as brazen as Dubya to get anything done.
How’s it going? Did you have a good Thanksgiving???
Earlier this evening I characterize him as “eloquent but shallow.”
I think that his command of language has led too many to think of him as insightful, which seem to be far from the reality of the situation.
‘nuther lounge lizard
We need to elect a president from wealth who’ll turn on his own kind like FDR…
Brilliant, Kelly !
We’ll see about that this year. Belch (my boyfriend) is insisting on new material.
Like “Man with The Bag” (don’t laugh) and “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
*putting on more tinfoil*
has anyone thought of the release of the wiki diplomatic cables is an effort to destroy any chance hillary has at running for pres?
*taking off tinfoil*
Amen! And, I say that in shame. I thought I’d never find anything positive to say about that SOB.
They are awesome. I know folks miss the ‘Dillo.
oh good laird.
look, i’ve been banned from like, five websites this past few weeks for being vocal about this, but please. i’m as foily as they come about a lot of stuff, but about obama? no, i’m a black woman and i was at Chicago when he was, and it’s really pretty simple. i believe the intertube shorthand would be:
“he’s just not into you.”
to me, it’s been clear since before 04, when everyone was sofa king excited about his “visionary” speech and i was left scratching my head wondering “did anyone listen to what he actually (didn’t) *say?*” then came the primaries, where everyone but people like me ignored the fact that the man put in writing his desire to escalate in af’stan, because they invested so much in “hope” and “change” despite the fact that those two words were not, you know, like an actual “plan for rescuing this declining economy and ending expensive wars and returning to some sort of progressive taxation of the rich.” but for some frakking reason (actually, i know why but i’m not ready to get kicked out of here too for saying it) a lot of democratic voters believed that this guy was the Prince of all Progressive Policy, despite his rather long record at the state and federal level of being as bad or worse than any DLC “moderate.” i guess the big con was his “lack” of support for the war in iraq. progressives really believed that was “a sign” that he was one of us. no, he’s not. he never was. i was on blogtalk radio Virtually Speaking this past sunday, and if you want to hear me blather about it more, check it out. but i actually know of what i speak, in this matter.
but really, i’m tired of liberals and progressive who are just now seeing the man for what he is and always has been claiming, “dood! i wuz fooled!” yes, he lied on the campaign trail. but if one was attentive, he also told the truth. which is simply, “i believe in neoliberalism and war and my best friends are banksters.”
Canuck Thanksgiving was on October 11th, but I did get some Turkey Dinner here last weekend, from some FDL friends …
I HATE winter. Cold, short days, with rain and stupid drivers. I hate December holidays, I have as much holiday spirit as a fireplug and I just want to hibernate from the end of Daylight Saving Time to the start of DST the following spring.
Winter can shove it.
So how are y’all doing?
itching for a fight?
;-)
sorry, today was tuff for me. fambly bullshit, etc. you know how it goes. just ignore me if i’m too annoying. i overslept the nap and now i’ll be up too late.
twas snark chicagodyke
I’m wondering why Assange is holding off until January to release them BOA bank docs. Best thing he could do is release them now to blow the MOTUs up.
I suspect my teacher is up to date on any info, and I hate to intrude – she only mentioned it once in passing, but if there’s an oppy I will.
The last six weeks I worked with a younger woman dealing with a lot of pain from an injury 8 freakin’ years ago. She’s bitter about dealing with the workers comp for …ready? the federal gov’t — and difficulty getting procedures approved. I hinted at how well the yoga was working for me but she clearly doesn’t feel able to do anything of the sort. Her pain is often visible, and she takes a lot of meds. I’m the last one to dis meds–when ya need ‘em ya need ‘em -= but I wish she could afford to get some second or third opinions.
Then again, I’m not a doc and not qualified to judge her condition. Just hopes she gets help soon; she always worked with animals, and in her current state cannot, and clearly misses them desperately.
hey thatguy — how ya doing tonight?
not a problem :) family can drive ya nuts even in good times
I do agree with Mika’s Dad, that there was a concerted effort to undermine U.S. negotiations, esp. in the MidEast debacle, by adding dirt into the WikiLeaks doc dump.
Of course, I haven’t read enough about that here, to see whether Marcy or anyone else has shot down the General’s pov with hard facts.
Doing ok…had a last-minute fill-in gig tonight. Glad it was early. Not liking this dark at 1700 business at ALL.
the father of my closet case republican girlfriend’s children (and still technically “husband”) has MS. he’s already opened his mind to some “alternative” therapy in a small way. please, share with me any links you have about yoga and MS. i am a yoga person and i’ve almost convinced him to try it. anything you could share would be most welcome. he hates me, but i hate suffering more and i don’t want to see anyone go thru it. i also love his children very much and want him to be around to be a dad for them for as long as he can.
and if it *is* bofa or another big bank. if they are as inflammatory as the enron doc as he claims, why wait?
Hi folks. Tonight I made porcini sausage risotto. It was marvelous!
What I didn’t have was a good idea for a vegetable to go with it.
Any suggestions ?
sweet…. about the music that is
you would totally hate it up here… starts getting that ‘d’ word even earlier…
The toughest thing for me is to watch people suffering when you know how to cure them. I’ve become better by sending them healing vibes and trusting that the pain will be a great Teacher in life’s long lesson …
Doing well.
…. You know who is really a great outspoken liberal?
George Lopez, the comedian. Loud and proud.
A PSA here. Give FDL Groups a try as Rayne asks. I’m putting treats there from time to time for folks to find … kinda of like Easter eggs. Some of them are time-sensitive so be aware of that. For the OR folks, I found a video of Wyden hot off of re-election making what appear to be anti-conservation promises so I FYI’d the OR Group as I bet enquiring minds would want to know.
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight? any dessert?
i’ve not seen his show — i’ll have to try to remember to catch it… he’s at midnight after conan right?
i have worked with Michelle in person. trust me, she’s a real Black Woman. he isn’t cheating, or rather, if he dares? um… i can’t say what would happen on a public blog. but trust me, she wouldn’t stand for it. ever. when they first met? he had to chase her, it wasn’t the other way around. she Owns him, at least in that respect. he has many flaws, but he’s not like the Big Dog.
There are some yoga and pranayama techniques that are being studied closely right now, that reverse MS. I understand why it works and highly recommend them.
Before I tell him any more, he should try some beginner’s classes of Kripalu or Hot Yoga … be sure to tell the instructor about his condition.
I think he is very funny in his special irreverent way. He is spot on re the plight of Latinos but he gives them sh#t too when they need it as only he can.
happy lucky 100th comment, chicagodyke!!!
It’s that time of year – Belch and I are going whole hog on having the family around again.
I’ll choose a new theme once we’ve recorded this year, but here’s how the last one went….
Petro!
The only yoga program here is at the Senior Center and I’m not old enough yet. But there is a yoga TV show that comes on at the crack of dawn.
Larue and Kelly are fine Chefs … I’d go with some Grilled Zucchini, drizzled with Lemon Juice.
*BONK*
Kelly: that’s a really nice youtube. thanks! i can be trite too! is this you or a friend of yours? the pianist has talent, it’s very pleasing.
Doing better than you, you ‘ol grump!
Dessert was a half of a chocolate muffin. Boring. I want to make
My cranberry apple almond crisp next.
Hi Chicago Dyke!
Know what you mean there. My ex has recently been diagnosed as not just depressed, but bi-polar (man, that explains a LOT). Anyway, for years he resisted seeing a shrink, taking meds, anything, and was thoroughly miserable much of the time.
Finally, he broke down, and has been on meds for years now. Whenever he gets a hint that someone he knows or works with is depressed, he positively evangelizes them to get to a doctor, try meds, try something, but don’t just sit there. But, there are always people who resist, like he did for so long. Hard for him to keep quiet then.
I can’t say I know that yoga alone would cure my co-worker, or whether she’s even capable of exercise without damage; you might be able to make that assessment. But it’s hard to believe it couldn’t help her some.
Are there any rules of thumb about waiting some period of time after an injury?
There are some great Yoga Videos on youtube as well.
*Great* song. A favourite. It just registered that this your YouTube channel. Right?
That would be me – funky, but true.
Good on you.
I was skeptical but saw my vialble choices as Hillary, and known DLC official and wife of a founder of the DLC, and Obama, who talked a plausible but abstract line of shit. So, I cast my primary vote for Obama after which my only alternative was McCain.
I knew this was not going to turn out well when, immediately after he’d cinched the primaries, he prostrate himself before AIPAC and then ushered the FISA Ammendments Act through Congress.
When I did a bit of late research, I found out that several members of Chicago’s Black Community had been warning about him for a long time. In fact, when they warned that he was DLC’s guy, he immediately retracted his membership.
So far as I can tell, he was recruited to run for president by Robert Rubin and Peter Orszag, co-founders of the Hamilton Project and the Brookings Institution. Rubin is a multibillionaire and anti-deficit collaborator of Pete Peterson. Orszage is his protoge and new hire and Citigroup. Cozy shit!downcasting
Obama was getting big Wall Street money way before he was a front runner. He had been bought and now knows that his only chance for 2012 is huge Wall Street money, about which he now has that terrible sinking feeling.
Having her assessed by a good Yoga Teacher is the right place to start. Any little bit she does today will help a great deal tomorrow …
Yes. It’s so refreshing, it’s almost startling to hear someone who sounds unapologeticly liberal.
That Pianist is our own Kelly Canfield … who is a master of many disciplines.
One of them. I got to consolidate them. Underway.
Belch and I will launch a website at the beginning of next year. Here’s the teaser/parking spot for it: http://jamesandeverett.com/
Agreed. Please understand what I meant by “the Bobbit procedure.”
btw. Chicagodyke – welcome. Don’t worry, there are plenty of firepups who were screaming that “O’s not a liberal” etc. for quite some time.
I have to say I wasn’t convinced during the primaries that he was the best choice, but gradually swung over. Once I back someone, I try to back them for real.
But, he has been a real disappointment. Much worse than I expected.
Heh. Awesome. I am catching “Barbie Versus Iran and John McCain” (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0DkzXaT6Ik ) which is very funny. Bookmarked and recommended.
I’ll look for them. Yoga was part of the warm-up routine at a dance class I was in years ago. I still remember how good it felt to do something I think was called the Cobra.
Oooh, without knowing it, I was doing Cobra for yeeeeeaars – basically what my PT’s taught me to stretch out my back soon after my injuries. Have been doing it faithfully for 25 years now….makes all the difference, in pain and in mobility.
evening, Suzzz — firegurts
Nooo! What you REALLY want is this one: Barbie as Superdelegate!
Yep, the Cobra opens up your energy channels and makes you experience a gush of energy. Email me if you have any specific questions about Yoga/Meditation.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
I second that; don’t worry.
Ho ho ho ho! Of course, Stone Henge is a star gate. ;) d00dz …
Lest my reference to “the Bobbit procedure” remain obscure, per the Wikipedia:
Most of the exercises they teach you in Therapy classes are variations of yoga postures. The Western style of teaching does not take into account the “when not to” aspect of Yoga, which causes severe side effects in many cases.
Petroc: you’re right. i hadn’t thought about suggesting Bikram to him, but i bet it would work. he’s not that bad off yet.
he’s a republican, and so filled with self-loathing and fear. as a yoga person, it’s hard for me to understand, even while i have great compassion for him, and his suffering. i am pretty sure he did this to himself, if i may be so bold. my guru teaches that we bring pain and suffering on ourselves via stress and self hatred and hatred and fear of others/the unknown, and i agree. i’m an atheist, and i still agree. talking to him is like talking to the FOX news channel; it’s so sad and he’s so ignorant of so many important facts. but he has an SUV and a couple of guns in the upper floor bathroom of their McMansion, so he feels empowered.
is most of america like this? i confess i’m very spoiled and don’t interact with TV watching type very often in person. i was trained as a scholar and mostly still live in that world.
Well, time to turn into a pumpkin. Good to be back at LLN again.
Petro, thanks for everything. My co-worker is not ready to even try something like exercise/yoga, whatever. I just hope she will some day.
Goodnight,all.
g’nite tejan
Gives a new take on the old saying — You don’t have to be a farmer, to be outstanding in your field, eh?
he’s a republican, and so filled with self-loathing and fear
first impulse…LOL…but it’s so often true. What a pity. And yup, the guns and the SUV – what else are they for, right?
No, most of America isn’t like that, but the sickness is spreading, much blame due to FoxNews and its ilk. It’s very sad and scary.
And now I really am going. *g*
Encourage him to go to 3-5 classes, and to let the “new age talk” run off his back if he finds it irritating.
What matters is that he focuses on finding what helps him to heal. Let me know if he wants to ask any specific questions.
G’nite tejan and you’re most welcome.
G’ nite, tejanaRUSA.
When I did a bit of late research, I found out that several members of Chicago’s Black Community had been warning about him for a long time. In fact, when they warned that he was DLC’s guy, he immediately retracted his membership.
um, dood. that would be… well, me. i’ve been blogging since 99. i’m just not rich or on TV. sorry to be a bitch, but you know, we’ve been singing this song, those of us from/at/with “the Chicago School” who are also black… for years. years and years. it makes me a bitch and crazy sometimes to point this out to (mostly white and rich, not saying that is you, but still) Village libruls. i don’t mean to take the Cassandra route so much as i want to encourage all of you to do one thing, and one thing only:
turn your TV off. stop paying for cable. just do it. you’ll be Amazed at how much your mind changes when you do. i haven’t paid for TV since 97. ask Spoko, he knows what i mean. but if you had the wrong impression about Obama, ask yourself: why is that? it’s because the Murdochs’ of this world programmed you to have it.
email sent.
Yep! And, were I Barack, I’d not want a sistah like Michelle to be down on my case. No way! She’s not Elin Nordegren.
“turn your TV off. stop paying for cable. just do it.”
I second the motion! All in favor say “Aye!”
Replied …
So, I can’t remember whom I read after the fact, but the name “Phillips” comes to mind. I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to what’s on TV, except for Rachel, Olbermann, Comedy Central, and the Military Channel. But the stuff that Phillips and his/her friends were reporting before the primaries should have received much wider press on the left blogosphere, and I’m still not sure where that broke down.
sigh. i shut down a thread every time i say that. my bad. sorry, Suz. i’ll take my soapbox and condescension and go to bed now. i adore the firepups, i’m sorry for not conforming. good night. /hugs spoko/ missed you at the crack den, mang. hope all is well with u and yours.
flying in a u2
you did no such thang cdyke. there is always an ebb and flow to the conversations at the lake, esp at late late night when off topic is the topic.
i was glad to see your fonts again — g’nite
G’nite ! Sometimes teh toobz get clogged, but we’re all still here …
Gee, Chicagodyke, I been fascinated by all your posts.
Obama’s a deer in the headlights — can’t even lie convincingly anymore.
We export this stuff directly to the Middle East. I was shown the evidence of it recently by some college students. *Gak*
Suz or anyone out there … getting back to my earlier query … have you read anything from Marcy or anyone else on the ProgBlogs countering what Mika’s dad said about the WikiLeaks ?
If so, please leave linky here and I’ll check back tomorrow.
Thanks and G’nite !
Chicagodyke is the bees knees folks.
I was in a group the other day and a woman said that she didn’t feel like an adult in the world. It was an interesting comment. The “serious people” have failed to take action in a fashion that will deal with the pain this jobless “recovery” is causing.
Andas i asked Matt Tabbai the other day, “what can ordinary people do?” and he didnt have an answer. I think a big part of that is because ordinary people think it’s not their job and the the people “real adults” who are experts will take care of things.
But the “experts” and “real people” are responding to the people who pay them. The middle class and the poor are to blame for not funding their own think tanks.
He never goes before the cameras from the oval office and ask the American people to put pressure on Congress. Most Americans historically rally around the president when he asks for our help.
It might actually be he doesn’t want our help….
Strange thing about the U2. When the story brook, I told my mom that I alread knew about that, but could remember from where. Years later, I was cleaning out our attic and ran across an old copy of Model Airplane News from I think it was 1956. There was a monthly section called “Planes Worth Modeling” and that issue featured the U2 and mentioned that rumor had it that this plane was flying over the Soviet Union from Norway and Iran taking reconnaissance photos. Years later, a Marine Colonel (aviator) told me that he used to get those photos and thought they were coming from Soviet pilots who were paid by the CIA.
petro — i’ve not but i’ve been playing catch up at fdl today so it may be out there
g’nite dood
holy moly dood
And, FWIW, I want to second that.
Why can’t Michelle talk some sense into him?
She can’t agree with all the non-stop crap he’s doing, can she?
Word.
In the rest of the world, people take to the streets, as we used to. Whappend?
We are it folks. No one else is doing it nor are they going to do it for us. That’s why I am here. And, we are having a positive effect as I’ve seen folks get up off the couch and join us. So, pedal to the metal and let her roll, Fuego dawGs.
“Freeway Of Love” – Aretha Franklin
She does not seem as clueless as he does. But, I’m sure, she’s still stunned at the notion of being “first lady.” Who wouldn’t be?
Being president is his fucking job!
hey mauimom — how’s your island tonight?
Yeah I know.
Under what has grown into a police state, folks are likely afraid they’ll be thrown in jail, lose their Mcjobs and join the rest of the new homeless if they protest.
I think most folks just feel defeated and just the effort to hold on to what they got is so draining, there is little energy or time to organize with their neighbors and hit the streets.
your link is to barbie super delegate
Weird being back here after a week on the Mainland for Thanksgiving. I can’t figure out what time zone I’m in.
I have a confession: my daughter [age 25] introduced me to the all-time biggest time-waster on the planet — a game called “Plants vs. Zombies.” I played it for almost all of the TWO 5-1/2 hour planes rides back here yesterday, charging the battery in between.
I am NOT a video game person, but this has me hooked.
how was your trip?
Besides, the MSM doesn’t cover street protests in this country like they did in the late 60s & early 70s.
If a tree falls in the forest, but nobody sees or hears it….
Nite Petro, thanks for your help.
wonderful. Full time with both kids, who are struggling to find jobs. [2008 & 2010 college grads]. Daughter may have found a second part time that could turn into more time when person she’s to sub for actually goes on maternity leave. Fingers crossed.
Paid for the trip with miles, so it will be a while before I’m able to safe up enough to go again. The plane fares are completely out of reach.
fingers and toes :) what area of the country were ya? dc?
Yup. DC, or rather suburban MD. Where we lived for 30 years before moving here. I miss it so. I spent one entire afternoon in the library. The libraries in Hawaii make me cry, they are so few, inadequate or closed.
(((mauimom)))
I just heard an interview with Salmon Rushdie in which he said he was a master at a video game called Angry Birds.
Now I’m going to have to check it out!
’bout time for me to head out folks. i’ve got to work on the kick-off to the non-traditional december lln celebration i’ve got cooking for tomorrow night.
thank you for letting me spend some time with ya tonight.
g’nite all
I’ve seen Angry Birds referred to, but never played it.
Has anyone seen on the teevee this NASTY video game, I think it’s called Black Ops. It’s nothing but people shooting at “terrorists.” Kobe Bryant and some other “starts” appear as protagonists. It looks like it’s straight out of Afghanistan or Iraq. I’m sure the troops play it non-stop.
It’s violent and horrible, and it’s being advertised on tv. [I watch a LOT of football, where ads for it appear regularly.]
Nite, Suz.
Nite Suz, thanks for hosting.
No one cares what Obama believes, because his predictably spineless capitulations belie his pathetic public relations. Only this approach could squander the 2008 tsunami backlash against Bush/Cheney’s anti-constitutional, war criminal, predation of the bottom 95% of the country.
night, Suzzz – take care
Kelly did that video. It’s a hoot!
I think the lack of honest reporting is the nub of the problem. The citizens of the Soviet Union knew that Pravda and Tass were organs of state propaganda. The citizens of the U.S. do not realize that the MSM are exactly the same. And, that lack of basic realization is the nub of the problem.

Assisting with the dispossession of mistaken perceptions and conceptions is a FDL hallmark. Other than “comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable” what else is there to do with the wilfully ignorant?
I just now found this at Wikipedia:
So, now I’m interested in the question of exactly what those conditions were and whether or not they have been violated.
IMHO, afflict them too.
It’s been lampooned in Doonsbury several times in the past few weeks.
Heh. I should be clear that the “afflicting” is not about giving harm but about assisting folks in the process of being aware and making better choices that affect us all. Otherwise, with the wrong intent, we get stuff like lies and Faux News.
I know one single parent that was absolutely adamant that her kid was not going to play those games. She said that if the kids were allowed to play these games, that they were training themselves to think like killers and would eventually perform the action. She said she was just not having that. She couldn’t understand why women would risk death to bring life (that’s what child birth is despite technology) and allow their children to re-enforce the concept of killing. I thought this was a very conscious position.
I have a harsher definition of “afflicting.” The Confederacy was, and apparently still is, an enemy of the United States of America. Those who would give it aid and comfort by celebrating the attack on Fort Sumpter are guilty of treason, a capital offense. You can possibly sense where my notion of afflicting is going.
I’ve had sons, step sons, nephews, and students who were big fans of first-person shooter games. One of them spent four years in the military. None have done violence, so far as I know. In fact, some of them are involved in the creation of such games.
I do not endorse violent games. I find them obscene, but I recall my own violent fantasies and competitive activities at that age. And, I don’t claim to know the correct way to address this aspect of the human spirit. Perhaps, violent video games are the least violent outlet. I can’t say.
Hey, g’nite to whom ever is still here. Thanks for sharing.
I know another parent that severely restricted his pre-teen kids’ game time (same types of games) as he saw increasing aggression and acting out. He told them why he was restricting their time on the games and asked them to be more conscious of their thinking, attitudes and behavior. Things got better but he has to keep an eye on the situation and remind them a lot. Kids don’t come with the mental and emotional discipline and focus to handle this stuff. They have to be taught how to work with their thinking and emotions which includes showing them how it affects them and others if they don’t. I don’t envy the decisions parents have to make about kids going through the “school of hard knocks” in that process but this society marks kids very early for making mistakes. As we’ve seen recently again, certain kids get to be targeted for violence against them and to profiled, manipulated and cultivated to be perpetrators of violence. I think that is incredibly sick besides the fact that it reproduces a sick society.
One final thought … I do think combat vets can be a different thing from career administrative military. PTSD is a horrible thing and some folks seem to never get over it. Family members involved in combat were never the same. The family members had to change their habits to be around these loved one and really be very aware. Daily life was no longer easy or simple anymore.
