As the new round, or apparently rounds, of information about what our government has been up to the last few years is released via Wikileaks, a familiar pattern has emerged. The release was allegedly going to be the worst disaster in intelligence EVAH!
But as well summarized by Glenn Greenwald:
Nevertheless, letting taxpayers and citizens of the “Land of the Free” know what is done in their name is just too much for folks like the execrable Long Island Republican Peter King:
“This is worse even than a physical attack on Americans, it’s worse than a military attack”
Yeah, you betcha’ Petey, knowledge is after all, power.

About Firedoglake
While knowledge is power, the majority of Americans really don’t give a damn what is done in their name. They don’t care how many countries are destroyed for corporate interests, how many people are killed, or how much money is pissed down a rat hole. Most are more concerned about Dancing with the Stars, the “Messicans” taking our jobs, making sure the poor remain poor, and a black man living in the White House. This news will be met with little more than a yawn.
zzzzzzzzzzz……… /s
Except for the business of Qaddafi’s voluptuous blonde Ukranian nurse. Reality teevee show there for sure.
A ratings bonanza, fer shur.
Trueish but if the ‘mercuns had some decent MSM most, if not all, of this stuff would have been deducted by careful readers throughout the years.
‘Merca is surely one of the least informed of the so called ‘Industrial’ nations and those that only consume the propaganda of the MSM and do not bother to get information from, for instance, the ‘net are the only ones that will be “surprised” and “shocked” by the Wikileaks truths. For most of the world there is surely little new in the revelations highlighting the fact that ‘Merca is governed by two faced, lying, conniving, evil, two faced, forked tongue fascist fuckers.
Julian Assange needs to stop toying with us and publish the entire motherlode. The 5 outlets that were given the all the docs are NOT going to publish them due to US pressure.
Absolutely.
Leaks seem especially infuriating to the Obama Administration. As you probably know, the Obamites are attacking whistleblowers more than any Administration in history. They are an unnervingly authoritarian bunch, these O-holes who have destroyed our party.

Good morning, pups. It’s Monday so we’ve got The Pasty Little Putz and Prof. Krugman. The Pasty Little Putz has managed to get it all completely effing backwards again. What a surprise! In “The Partisan Mind” he babbles that the body-scanner debate would have played out very differently if it had occurred during the Bush administration. I’ll bet you didn’t know that it was “the populist right” that was infuriated by them, did you? Don’t worry, he’ll ‘splain it all to you… Prof. Krugman, in “The Spanish Prisoner,” says trapped by the euro, Spain has no good options for economic recovery.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready and the biscuits are out of the oven. The Putz made me cross enough that I actually left a comment at the NYT on his POS. Generally they get sucked into the black hole somewhere, but maybe they’ll let this one through. Have a great day.
Linky wonky
Marion’s link
Thanks! I was off getting more tea (which I obviously needed). I owe you one!
I apologize. I had not read the putzgram before posting the link, if I had I would not have done it. Sorry all. Please put down all sharp objects prior to reading the putz.
Your last line is a gem, loved it.
I’m not sure who or what is to blame for the malaise. Surely the media deserves much blame. Once upon a time when the media reported what was going on in Vietnam and civil rights, people listened and cared.
Yet Americans have always had to have someone to hate. First Native Americans, then European immigrants, now anyone brown. I really don’t know what the hell has happened, but it sickens me to the core.
It’s stunning the way he can live in the same world we do and get his “facts” 180° bass ackwards. My comment is still trapped in moderation at the NYT…
jamie rubin on morning joe just referred to it as ‘cyber warfare’ against the united states. killer joe really going after the nyt for publishing.
Just in case my comment isn’t considered obsequious enough to be published, here it is:
Snarl.
you can hear what the dumb azz americans think on this issue, turn on c span this am,,,
I’m listening right now, not surprised.
The Goopers can only *lose* with these Wikileaks releases…no wonder King wants to shut them down.
They’ll put up contrary postings to the last posts.
I’ve commented @ 6 in the morning and didn’t get posted until after four.
the point the caler made about saudi arabia and the oil price situation was on point,,,war with iran would surely benefit them and the uae….
the lady making the point that wiki leaks is the new NY times in breaking actual stories that the corp media will not go after,,
in the past, these stories were broke by reporters,,,where did those days go????who is the new murrow???
One wonders if he, or any editor, ever reads what he barfs.
Ah. I see. Hold the more “contrarian” comments until after everyone’s already read the paper… /tin foil hat.
We “live in a repressive regime” where none of our “private conversations” are allowed to be kept private. Quoted phrases belong to the WH criticisms against Wikileaks. One of the C-Span callers said that this “means the end of the nation states” and their small, divisive conflict starting secrecy and war mongering. She’s right on with that.
Wow, Hillary has really gone off the deep end:
“The US Secretary of State’s intelligence-gathering diktat to our embassies worldwide, uncovered by WikiLeaks, has shocked the international community with its weird insistence on collecting biometric data – including DNA samples, iris scans and fingerprints – on foreign officials.”
Justin Raimondo, “The Big Dump” @ antiwar.com
http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2010/11/28/the-big-dump/
As Raimondo wrote, what is Washington going to do with biometrics of, say, Ban ki Moon? Bizarre.
If we have to have someone to hate, why not turn our attention to the people who are actually treasonously stripping our country of it’s wealth? We actually have reasons to hate them, so that would be novel.
In fact, I think they are the ones who gin up all this hate we have for each other in the first place. I think they do it to distract us from noticing what they are actually doing to us. If we noticed them, we could stop them, and they are deathly afraid of that.
So those poor poor Iranian embassy hostages who Reagan broke loose were ….SPIES ?
Awesome!
If the “Fatherland” is allowed to tape all our telephone conversations, read our private emails and generally invade our privacy I do believe that it is only fair that we should be privy to their official documents
Well, of course…the path to a relationship and accountability…Who may be listening? Dick Cheney is so secret we do not even know where he is anymore.
He has been reincarnated in female form and called Liz.
With end stage heart disease I would imagine he’s confined to home and hearth. Good.
NO & SD, thanks. So glad y’all are keeping up with him;) Nice that he has been quiet, isn’t it? But Liz is a great mimic.
Amazingly, Hillary Clinton signed off on some of the worst of it, including attempting to steal credit card numbers from UN officials:
http://news.antiwar.com/2010/11/28/hillary-clinton-ordered-diplomats-to-steal-un-officials-credit-card-numbers/
Hey, the (Facebook) b’day fairy says I should wish you a Happy Happy Happy today. So Happy Happy Happy!
Damn, forgot all about that. *g* Thanks.
Cheney’s demon-spawn daughter is out there doing his dirty work for him.
Two things:
It’s unlikely that the conservatives will express any concerns about this, and if they do it will be cosmetic.
And, if this were the Bush administration’s work, we progressives would be in HIGH dudgeon, and rightly so.
Instead, we’ve been rolled so far by Obama’s “centrist” shit, that most of us are basically like: “tsk-tsk”.
a LOT us don’t want to lay this specifically on Obama’s doorstep, nor Hillary’s. We just want to talk about “government officials”. It’s all too comfortable and too protective of the lunatic status quo that Obama & Co. are clearly determined to maintain.
Yeah, it’s Birthday Boy Day. Cool…
And of course, Julian Assange has done a wonderful job of monkey-wrenching these Bushian assholes.
Big hugs and smootches to the Birthday Boy! SD, you are not only a pillar here at the Lake, but, you’re a doll! Many happy returns of the day, whether you remember them or not. :)
Wow, happy, happy…I hope the “kids” have a big party…
Re the Wikileaks release:
We’ll hear wingnut heads exploding about this all week (if not longer). There’s already some talk about possible hearings…blah, blah, blah.
So…Where were these dipshits when Valerie Plame’s cover was blown out of the water with the full knowledge and complicity of the White House? Ruined her career and undoubtedly the careers of her (undercover) colleagues, along with causing incalculable damage to national security assets around the globe. I’d say it’s a safe bet that some people even got killed out of the deal.
So where was the wingnut outrage then? I’d say that throwing the Plame incident in their faces when the Wikileaks issue comes up is “fair game.”
Pillar? As in been around a while and a little flaky around the edges? *g*
Hugs and smoochies back.
Where’s Swim this morning? Got me all off center an’ shit.
Sure, it’s fair game along with alot of noise about open gov’t. Play The Pat Tillman Story to remind everyone of the sins of secrecy and cover-up.
I was wondering also…maybe needed to sleep in.
Sure wish WikiLeaks would release this stuff on pdf. Our esteemed print press is holding a lot back.
Yeah, some pdf’s would be easier to deal with…and much more expansive, I’m sure.
Off topic, but did anyone read this article on CNNFN?
http://money.cnn.com/2010/11/23/news/international/united_states_competitiveness_world.fortune/index.htm?iid=EAL
He more or less talks about an end of US exceptionalism and that perhaps all of what is going on now is just the leveling of the playing field across all nations.
If that is true, then I’m fine with that. Unfortunately though, if the US is no longer the blessed nation chosen to lead the world then I think it is time we stopped acting as the world’s self appointed policemen, stopped protecting multi-national interests and actually acted in the best interest of the people of this country.
Oh.. we can’t have that. It is just that the US middle class gets to take it on the nose and corporations can play and benefit against the imbalances of the international community.
Screw that.
When my congresswoman could not face my questioning about how our contractors had been given cart blanche to rape their employees, she fled to go work for Hillary. So, I am not surprised, they have been running illegal drugs for decades. I expect the whole operation is basically organized crime.
Why else would they have legalized torture?
He came dancing across the water … man …

It’s funny how little changes affect us when we get older, huh?
First let me say I am a staunch Liberal! However, it seems to me that these reporters wait until we get a Black President to decide to “Tell All” in regards to classified intelligence that has been kept secret for years! There is something seriously wrong, maybe dangersouly wrong, in America when you have some people trying to undermine America’s intelligence system in this way. First it was Valerie Plame (AND THEY GOT AWAY WITH THAT) and now this much more aggregious act. Clearly, we have some serious Enemies from within.
On the flip side, “What the American plutocrat owned media never wants you to see, and that is how Europe in particular and the world in general has come to see America as a country in decline, whose people are so badly misinformed by the media, they actually don’t realize that America is the only major industrialized nation in the world that by right of law does not offer universal medical access, paid sick leave, paid maternity leave and paid annual leave. It just seems almost impossible to get that word out to American people. Even diaries on that subject at the Kos top out at just over 2,000 views. Therefore this diary today will try to do something different. It will show you what the European media is saying about the American dream and you will be shocked!”
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/11/29/923787/
“And while the CIA director at the time, George Bush, made a not-too-convincing show of discontinuing the agency’s manipulation of the media, it’s clear that the CIA regards the space between your ears as one of its most important battlefields.”
From Third World Travler.
X2
Well, GMA sez it is a “Massive security breach”!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!
Sounds like gossip to me….like nasty comments about nasty world leaders to me.
Something about Iran, of course…..while the nukes Bush sold Korea are really the problem.
But :::::GASP! ::::::Korea has no oil; nothing to see here, move along
“And, if this were the Bush administration’s work, we progressives would be in HIGH dudgeon, and rightly so.”
That’s what has to be pointed out over and over to anyone defending the actions of the Obama administration.
Cables, okay, war logs, check, war crimes, please document those completely, lies to create tensions to justify wars, yes I want carbon copies of those,……torture videos, please save for use in court, international court that is.
And Peter King said this when Valerie Plame was outted:
Seems he is a bit inconsistent…
Sad but definitely true. The sheeple wld rather stand in line at 4 am to buy goods made in China bcz that is what they were told to do for the holidays. They cld give a rats ass about the leaks. If only we cld get Palin interested in the leaks.
It’s getting nearly as bad on HP. If you say anything against Obama they wait until they can bury it; if it’s posted at all. They sure post the righty’s comments tho….bipartisan, ya know
