hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight? i found a video of him doing this song but the audio wasn’t as good as this — hope ya’ll don’t mind the not great video to go with good audio.
Mighty soggy and no sunshine expected til Monday…! Once again it’s expected to rain on our parade…! This Saturday nite is our only night-time parade…! ;-)
Well, it’s basically par for the course in Hilo town… Any and all major gatherings attracts the clouds like rain dances or something… It’s actually a good thing these days since we’re still hovering at the 50% level of our annual rain fall…! 8-(
Hi Suz and everyone, and a happy Thanksgiving to all. We’re about one hour and fifteen minutes into it here in the east.
Can’t travel to be with the family this year because of my work schedule, so a friend and I are going to partake of Thanksgiving dinner at a DC area favorite, Clyde’s (pdf). Should be yummy!
I am so lucky (not really) to have been raised by people who think I am to their Right…
The ‘not really’ part – Holiday sport is going to visit friends at THEIR homes, where these battles rage. I have never had so much fun as when I tossed a rhetorical grenade into my best friends Easter supper in 1979. I am to this day, persona non grata.
Suggesting to the Fundy Brother that the planet would have been better served if no one had in fact rolled back the stone – well, it was like someone threw a switch.
It was ok, got the last of the stuff I need for tomorrow’s Caligulean repast. I’d feed you too if you were in town, we’ll certainly have more than enough.
Nice little nap, got a double ding-a-ling, pulled the bread and I’m ready for bed. 26 minutes into turkey day here. Down-loading the tunes for breakfast.
Hey LL!
I have no problem with anyone’s religion, as long as they don’t want the Old Testament to become the law of the land.
Such was the case in 1979. So I decided NOT to punt.
*heh* The better half, with glee, mind ya, gratefully accepted to ring bells for the SA today, so that I was stuck cleaning and prepping all day today…! She did call during her breaks and told me how much she loved me…!
I’m doing everything tomorrow. Get up early and prep the meat/smoker (Prime rib, baby!), give the meat about 20 min at 500F in the oven, then out to the smoker with low, slow and smoky to finish the cook, skewer the veggies, fire up the grill, cook the lobsters and then the veggies.
During that time someplace, I’ll make the stuffing, too. And maybe take a nap but I have to keep an eye on the meat thermometer because I want to take it out at 120 degrees (rare). Don’t like prime rim overcooked.
tomorrow is jen’s halfway point day.. she will be exactly 20 weeks… the baby bump should be getting more pronounced and no longer a bump but a preggers belly. i’m hoping i remember to take my camera
sure is! it’s not quite as busy this month so no need for overtime. Yesterday’s insane project got turned around fast and out the door today, so why stay? *g* plus next month is promised to be hellaciously busy.
btw, thanks so much for the diary sharing your “average” day. BIG THANKS to you and all those who do your type of work.
Hey, it’s Thanksgiving. A day for football and Caligulean eating. I’m doing turkey on Xmas, but I felt like, if for just a meal, eat like the people who are destroying the country. Got some cognac, some good Zinfandel, pumpkin and pecan pies, and, BUD’S EGG NOG!
So what if I have to fast on fruit juice and water the rest of the weekend?
Hellaciously busy can be a good thing at times — makes the day go fast, for one, and I know in my line of work it makes me feel productive. And thank you for the kind words about the diary! My compadres on the opposite squad will be there on Thursday, doing a little work in between feasting on all the goodies they have planned for the day :-)
Great song, I needed that ! We got a taste of how ugly it could get. We only lost power for 5 hours in the pre-storm winds during the weekend. However, we had 5 major trees come down during the real storm.. A huge cedar totally crushed the car known as Beast, an old Sentra kept around for no good reason. No big loss but the destruction was spooky. Just fucking crushed it.
tomorrow is the usual family gathering at my mom’s, we’ll all drive to wisconsin quite cautiously through the wintery mix. Not to be confused with chex mix.
i agree, busy is better than too slow where i work. I can’t stand make-work. Next month is a huge project for a major retailer, we’re gonna all be working overtime getting that out the door on time.
the pd always had a good spread for those working on turkey day — the dispatch center and lunchroom had real ovens in addition to the microwaves — was a huge potluck deal
Hi Margot! I love that open-door policy on Thanksgiving day :-) That’s what it’s all about.
This is the first time in my life that I won’t be seeing any family on this holiday; feels kind of strange, but my friend is in the same boat with her work schedule, and her dad sent her some $$ for the two of us to go out and have a nice meal. (((( Deb’s dad )))) What a generous man :-)
Last night it was cold, so I went to bed Early and got a good night’s sleep. Today lotsa fun with my SILs, and the rest of the fam, getting ready for a nice meal together tomorrow.
Hi guys! Sold my apt. here. It’s really no place to celebrate Thanksgiving, though. I’ll have a late TG when I get home.
bgrothus, bought it in 2003 and selling it at about break even after furnishing it… The housing market here has taken a hit too, although construction continues.
I’m going to celebrate Thanksgiving without my parents for the first time in 30 years. We had some great ones. I’m letting my sister field this one. I love their company but I’m looking forward to a Thanksgiving where I’m the guest. Our daughter asked us to come celebrate with her boyfriend’s family. Very good people.
I guess this is practice for being in-laws.
openhope, this is my 3rd thanksgiving as the guest instead of the host. in many ways, its like a reward :) all the good food, none of the hassle and i get to bring home the carcass for making thanksgiving soup (along with other leftovers)
Gotta get out, pups…I want to get up early-ish, have some coffee and watch some of the Macy’s parade (tradition). Thank you Suz as ever, and I hope everyone has a very nice day on Thursday, whatever you’re doing.
I am a nicer Yahtzee player than Scrabble. I get pissed with Scrabble. We got another game that is stack-able Scrabble called UpWords. It’s pretty fun, and not quite as crazy for me as Scrabble, which is a lot about the luck of the draw too. . .but I am mean when I lose that game. Really bad.
Quick drive by howdy to say GREAT vid and wish The Hostess Suz and all you Pups a great Thanksgiving and long weekend . . . I’n thankful for my honey of 26 years so I’ll be cooking (oven, no que allowed anymore here at apt.) big bird, on top of mirepoix and herbs with chicken stock and white wine, covered at 425F . . . 16lbs for two hours.
Uncovered for half hour or so . . . herb schmear from garden (basil, rosemary, thyme) with roasted garlic and some EVOO rubbed under skin top and bottom . . . rubbed inside, too.
Yorkshires.
Roasted garlic mashed yukon gold’s, we bought BUTTER today! *G*
Broccoli with mushrooms, carrots and roasted red bell peppers (chick stock, garlic, butter, some ital seasonings and the turkey herb schmear).
Sausage, roasted garlic, roasted walnuts, apple, onion, 9 grain herb loafs, cranberries, herbs, stock for stuffing. Separate pan, not in the bird.
Gravy from big bird stuff in roasting pan . . . all them herbs and juices and stock and wine . . . and I finish it with butter. *G*
Mince meat pie and vanilla bean ice cream (store bought).
Share and trade with our fav neighbors across the walkway, hang out and yak, sip and sup.
Again, best to all Pups and make sure you hold ‘em close and love the dickens out of all your loved ones.
Peace to all, and peace for the planet sooner than later please, thank you.
Peace and laughter, Margot.
Sweet dreams, all. I’m going to pull a late niter and dehydrate some gorgeous sweet winter squash, sprinkled with pumpkin pie spices. Then I’m going to learn how to make granola you actually want to eat.
Take care
I bought is a half-rental/half vacation spot. Panama is wonderful. But renting it became too difficult from San Diego. It was sitting vacant half the time.
I made cranberry ice tonight, easiest recipe ever, just jellied cranberry and 7 up. It’s a two-step process, not much fuss, and I love it with a hot meal. Really fab.
jen’s not shared the recipe with me — but it is sooo good. i’ve brought home a container of it the past couple of years and enjoyed snacking on it through the weekend. its her sister in law’s recipe and has been a family favorite for years
It was 45 degrees when I drove to work, which is pretty bad for folks in this area, but for folks from the U.S. East is downright balmy. So, I ain’t complaining.
that’s really cold for down there dood. was a couple degrees warmer today than yesterday — i got up to 38 today…. hope the weather doodette is correct and its in the 40′s tomorrow… i don’t wanna have to deal with snow and ice on the road over the coast range.
Aloha, Suz…!
Guess no zed.
Sharks are beating the black hawks.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
hey wmd — how ya doing tonight?
Nice! I saw McMurtry live in 2005.
Hey Suz!

seemed like the perfect pre-family holiday song…
yay!!! good news dood
Mighty soggy and no sunshine expected til Monday…! Once again it’s expected to rain on our parade…! This Saturday nite is our only night-time parade…! ;-)
You can get anything you want… That’s the quintessential Thanksgiving song.
music videos are unlike Playboy – we really do play them for the music…
crap… first the vets parade and now the night time :(
arlo! indeed alice is.. but its not thanksgiving yet…. at least on the left coast — so i went with this one
Thanksgiving: All the agony of Xmas, but without the presents.
hey lisa — how ya doing tonight?
Well, it’s basically par for the course in Hilo town… Any and all major gatherings attracts the clouds like rain dances or something… It’s actually a good thing these days since we’re still hovering at the 50% level of our annual rain fall…! 8-(

hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?

Hi Suz and everyone, and a happy Thanksgiving to all. We’re about one hour and fifteen minutes into it here in the east.
Can’t travel to be with the family this year because of my work schedule, so a friend and I are going to partake of Thanksgiving dinner at a DC area favorite, Clyde’s (pdf). Should be yummy!

I am so lucky (not really) to have been raised by people who think I am to their Right…

Da bestest crew…! ;-)
Aloha, LL…!
dang dood that musta been one hella dud…
Too damn cold out there to go out tonight and play. So i stay home and had J’s special (wink) cookies. Damn good cookies. =8-D
It’s a bit chilly, but not too bad. The weather doods are talking about sleet to our north and west though, but just rain around here in the AM.
Aloha CT!
hey that guy — how was your day?
Really? That’s fuckin COOL! It’s fun to rattle their cages, isn’t it? :-D

Dayam, newt…! I was still in HS in ’79…! That wasn’t a grenade that was a MOAB…! ;-)
thanks dood — am going to jen’s — she and her sisterinlaw have been cooking for a couple days now — making and baking stuff ahead of time.
Ouch!!
It was pretty good.
With my family, it’s a tad boring.
They had it coming. I swear.
dayam newton — that was the flame switch…. how christian of the fundy to still hold a grudge about it…
LMAO, someone did throw a switch……
Hey, all you LLNers,
Nice little nap, got a double ding-a-ling, pulled the bread and I’m ready for bed. 26 minutes into turkey day here. Down-loading the tunes for breakfast.
Thanks Suzanne. Niters again.
Evening all. Recovering from the Kiss of La Nina storm we had.

driving up in the morning, Suz?
Too bad for the three Macs in their home.
They pay full price to a hack who simply will not get them fixed.
:-)
I’m doing everything tomorrow. Get up early and prep the meat/smoker (Prime rib, baby!), give the meat about 20 min at 500F in the oven, then out to the smoker with low, slow and smoky to finish the cook, skewer the veggies, fire up the grill, cook the lobsters and then the veggies.

You’ll have to tell us all about the progress of the baby bump!
Kinda geting ready for thanks-making.

I’m so glad you’re getting a housemate!
Gotta get in the swing of being a grandma — one of the prerequisites is the camera, and I’m sure you won’t forget it ;-)

My thoughts exactly. :]
glad ya liked it openhope — and yikes!!! am glad it landed on the beast and not the house
LL, I did that several times when I worked in hospitals. One couple, both nurses, would take in us strays and it was great.
Getting cold, finally! I’m needing extra blankets. How is it in Oregon?
i agree, busy is better than too slow where i work. I can’t stand make-work. Next month is a huge project for a major retailer, we’re gonna all be working overtime getting that out the door on time.
Evening Suz and crew! Looks like everyone is ready for tomorrow or later one way or another.

I’ll be hosting a small soiree of about 10 or so… The middle un’s Boyfriend is expected over, and, I’m anxious to see him squirm a bit…! ;-)

hey bg — how ya doing tonight?
Hi bg, hope this week goes well for you.
Hi Margot! I love that open-door policy on Thanksgiving day :-) That’s what it’s all about.

Nobody ever goes hungry in the PD or FD on the holidays! ;-)
am glad you got a good nights sleep bg. and that you are having fun :)
Thank you, Miss! Same to you!
Hi everybody, from Panama!
Happy Thanksgiving bg :-)
I beat ‘em all, even or especially LM, at Yahtzee tonight. I have a lotta practice with LM, who Always Wins when we play.
Love my family. Wish we would all be together more often.
hey loohoo — how’s panama tonight?
Thank you! Sounds like you have a good day planned. Nothing like hanging with a good friend! And not having to pay for dinner. Killer.
oh lardy, i’ve not played yatzee in years… i’ve always had such bad luck with games of chance…
*waving to Loo Hoo*
Aloha, Loo Hoo…!
It’ll be a nice day! And I’m sure we’ll both bring home enough leftovers for a good bit of the weekend…
Loo Hoo!
Loo Hoo, are you scoping out Panama for future landings? I was talking about it with my best friend from growing up just last night.
happy lucky 100 margot!!!
Congrats, Margot…! ;-)
Do you play Scrabble?
I’ve been quiet tonight. Going to sleep now.
Good night all.
Way to go, Margot!

Major switch, huh? Thanksgiving and Christmas are so wonderful, but so much work! Hours and hours of prep, and the meal’s over in 45 minutes…
Gotta get out, pups…I want to get up early-ish, have some coffee and watch some of the Macy’s parade (tradition). Thank you Suz as ever, and I hope everyone has a very nice day on Thursday, whatever you’re doing.

My general daily thinking on cooking is that you don’t spend more time cooking than you do eating.
I am so thankful for youtubes!
Have a fun dinner LL! Sweet dreams.
Nite LL.
g’nite ll
So Loo Hoo, why did you sell your place? Maybe better, why you bought it?
WRT world economy/RE prices: I saw “Inside Job” the other day, our bankers fucked the whole world.
I get pissed when I lose at Monopoly. I am not good at the properties, etc.

Peace and laughter to you too, have a wonderful time tomorrow.
YUM! hugs to the mrs from me, both of you have a great thanksgiving!
Quarter for the juke.
waylon!
I bought is a half-rental/half vacation spot. Panama is wonderful. But renting it became too difficult from San Diego. It was sitting vacant half the time.
Can I come over? Yum!
the good news is that you sold it and won’t have to carry it anymore :) how long you going to be down there for?
Nighters OH. I better hit it too. Night all.
I’ll be home Saturday night. I just checked and the wire transfer went through, so all is cool.
g’nite loohoo
I’m multi-tasking tonight. . .looks like a lotta pups going to bed early tonight.
its all that pre-holiday work — has everyone plum tuckered out
I had a lotta help, and it was fun. We are pretty much ahead of the game now, I think.
tis the help that makes it all fun. jen was all giggly when she called last night after making cranberry ice with her sister in law.
Hi All,
I just got here and have not caught upon the comments so far.
My congrats to Loo Hoo for her sale, but I suspect that it was not a “win.” In any case, good luck.
I’ve been unable to attend to what’s going on for the past three days and am now trying to catch up. Bad Stuff!
hey wigwam — how was your day?
I made cranberry ice tonight, easiest recipe ever, just jellied cranberry and 7 up. It’s a two-step process, not much fuss, and I love it with a hot meal. Really fab.
jen’s not shared the recipe with me — but it is sooo good. i’ve brought home a container of it the past couple of years and enjoyed snacking on it through the weekend. its her sister in law’s recipe and has been a family favorite for years

g’nite all and hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving.
Drive safe, Suz, thanks for being a great hostess as always!

This is another McMurtry song that should be better known.
