In her acknowledgments, Palin offers “special thanks” to Jessica Gavora, an Alaskan who served as chief speechwriter for former attorney general John Ashcroft and who is the wife of conservative writer Jonah Goldberg.
Yes.
A woman so stupid she married Jonah Goldberg is the person Sarah Palin chose to ghost”write” her editorial collage of American exceptionalism.

Teddy!
Teddy!
I figured out a way to not read stupid shit like that. I avoid the Washington Post.
Can such a person exist?
Teddy!
Teddy!
Well that at least explains how Pantload found someone to marry him. Her brain is severely frostbit (as mine may be by the end of the week – the revised forecast has the high on Wednesday at -2).
Teddy gets big fat checks from George Soros to read this crapola on our behalf.
Yep. Me,too. Gave up on them years ago and it has done wonders for my blood pressure.
I wish Soros would send me checks. I’d review Palin’s book for money…
Good evening, all!
It’s cold and wet in Portland — yes, we were warned — but I mean, really cold and wet! Snow showers predicted for the wee hours through noon tomorrow.
How’s by you?
It is to laugh.
Man! The Walking Dead is really a good series, if you’re into that sort of thing.
I hope they are REALLY big checks, because that is some weapons grade stupid there.
Hot and humid here! Might as well be September again.
It’s such an ingrained habit, I usually review the website once a day and then never go back. Someone brought this one to my attention this morning, though, and I had to claim it for SLN. I mean, how stupid must one be to actually marry Pantload?
LMAO!
It’s a paradox!
(Never, ever gets old with the two of you Drs)
See mine at 4. In addition to the balmy temperatures (with wind!), we are expecting a couple of feet of snow between now and Thursday.
Dunno but I’ll bet Andrea
MitchellGreenspan comes close.We are also enjoying it on Sunday nights, although it’s a poor substitute for MadMen. This is the finale, no? (no spoilers, we’re LeftCoasties!)
Friends on FB, in SF, are whining about the low fifties chill that’s hit The City this weekend. That was me, I guess, before we moved to the frontier.
At least stupid enough to pass herself off as the Wicked Witch of the North…
Nope there are two more after tonight. No spoilers but it makes me hurt!
teddy!
Alan Greenspan has to be one of the most repulsive men on the planet, physically. Not that the Mrs is any great shakes, teevee-personality-wise. But he dated Barbara Walters and other great media stars, who presumably had their choice of handsome AND powerful men.
Always remember this, Andrea: wherever your hand wanders, Ayn Rand was probably there first.
hi!
how’s the coast?
It is an amazing fact.
O had the time to write another useless book while spreading his cheeks for his wealthy corp & private donors? He is truly a man of many talents. Almost scratches down to the Palin level of ridiculousness.
Watched the video, hard to believe all that WRONG came out of one person!
It really is all what you are used to. When I was in Oklahoma 20 seemed really cold and then I moved to Chicago and discovered -20. All things are relative.
Saw the Plame movie this evening. If anyone wants me to go OT this early in the thread, I’ll post the “review” I typed for a friend who asked my impressions.
Brain bleach, STAT!
I remember when the Rocky Horror crowds used to shout “incest is best” at the tops of their young and stoned lungs. Who knew that what they were talking about was the ruling caste and the DC media?
Yeah. I cannot decide which of them is more repulsive and the thought of them together is the stuff of nightmares.
Ewwwww.
Merember the Mark Twain quote: The coldest winter I ever spent was one August in SF. (Or words to that effect.)
Freezingish here tonight but beautiful clear skies & full moon. *Howling loudly.*
Versailles on the Potomac.
cold. was 29 when i went to bed last nite, 37 when i got up and it stayed there until shortly after sunset when it bizarrely warmed up to 41. now back down to 37. chance of snow flakes tomorrow but its a wee one and is more likely to be c-c-cold rain.
had the fire going since i got up today and both critters are laying on the pad next to it. they’ve not strayed far from it and token did his fastest ever saving of a tree today — outside less than 2 minutes and he was back inside headed for the stove.
Indeed.
I’m so glad someone else watched it.
I was absolutely drooling and slackjawed by the end.
Did you feel your IQ dropping as it spooled out?
Currently at 16 here. Got all the way up to 19 earlier today.
Chicago is inhuman.
It’s one of the few cities in the USA where people die from exposure in the summer AND the winter.
No spoilers! hahahahha
As if anyone could spoil the Plame movie for this crowd.
And… there’s no OT on SLN. Go for it.
Full AND blue, the moon she is tonight.
No moon here, though.
Not as hot as Oklahoma, however.
But still, probably hotter than Hell (Michigan).
Chicago is alright… or was.
I was in Chicago in May of 1986 and it went from being in the 80s, to the thirties with a couple of feet of snow and back to the 80s in the space of less than a week.
I thought Houstopolis was bad…
Heh. My kitteh lurves to go outside after dark. Got home after dark tonight. She seemed reluctant. Finally condescended to exit the open door. Left her out for an hour, opened door and she meowed in great appreciation for being let in to a warm house. Will now go to sleep in her bed by the wood stove until first light, when she will come & plop on my most vulnerable upside anatomy (stomach works especially well if I happen to be sleeping on my back at the moment). She’s not so much interested in breakfast at 5a, as in doing her early morning inspection tour of the house perimeter to make sure no wingnuts (well, in her world that would be deer, coyotes, skunk, mice, chipmunks, woodchucks, etc.) have invaded her space.
Margarate, did you ever get my message about tejanarusa looking for you? Or did she find you on another thread?
Saw them perform that song live, at the Washington Hilton in a private ballroom for about 50 of us, the night before they played the White House. Arranged by a high school classmate’s dad who worked there, one of those later imprisoned.
Hey, Teddy, I posted the article about iTunes and the Manhattan Project iPhone app on my FB and got into quite an extended discussion with someone about it. I held up my end pretty well, I think. Not sure any minds were changed, but…
Oh, thanks for that. Didn’t think to think that it was also a blue moon.
I really enjoyed living there. Really vibrant community with lots of diversity.
Blue full moon floating in clouds. We just returned from St. John’s Newfoundland, and it was COLD and damp. Beautiful, savage waves and seascapes, loved, loved it! Last night we had a fire in our little bedroom fireplace at the B&B in the old town. It was adorable. The 12 hour trip back, not so fun.
Just getting thru the comments. The thought of marrying Teh Pantload is nauseating. Brain bleach please.
tejanarusa is looking for me? Why? Do you know?
You haven’t lived until you have had 6 inches of heavy wet snow in mid-June.
The very first snowball fight I ever had was on June 22, 1988 up on the rim of Crater Lake Oregon.
Yeah, but that is at altitude. This was down here in the valleys. Doesn’t do it often, but sometimes you get that here (that is the only time since I have been here).
I was perfectly comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt up there. Very strange for a Texas girl.
Teddy! Pups!
My mind is boggled. Someone stupid enough to marry the Pantload? Are we sure it’s a real marriage? Or is it a Norm Coleman type marriage where the wife is being paid big money to give him some sort of authenticity?
gah. gotta find that brain bleach …
You’re in Wyoming? I’ve never been that far north east of the Snake river and west of the Missouri.
Yes. I posted her comment on an earlier thread. Let me go rummage — it was PUAC. She invited you to come at Thanksgiving and do a bit of (paid) work and have some turkey dinner. You seem to have been on threads at different times, and I was AFK much of the day.
That is the really nice part about living here. Humidity is so low (and we usually have no wind), so that it does not feel nearly as cold as the same temp would in Chicago and Oklahoma. I routinely run across campus to classes in just a sport coat when it is in the 30s.
Why I thought you enjoyed living in the outer reaches of the Empire with us Gaulois. Explain yourself, Theodorus.
I’m in western Montana, but it is pretty much the same.
Yes, please.
*sigh* It’s a soggy, chilly 76 here… (ducking)
Jonah is weapon grade stupid and dangerous…! His dubious ‘reporting’ is directly responsible for Iraq, and, now he’s beating the Iranian war drums…! *gah*
AH here it is. Message delivered, now I can rest easy. *G*

Thanks. I’m sure we’ll catch each other eventually.
Margaret, I’ve been looking for you. Are you still here?
I’m still working on that biz and thought since you were in the same boat as I am that maybe we could collaborate.
Rest easy. And thank you. :)
This would be the same Palin book that calls out American Idol for deluding people into thinking that they have talent so that they make fools of themselves in public, right?
At first, I wondered who deluded Palin into thinking that she has talent. Now I’m wondering if Jessica Gavora was taking a thinly veiled shot at Palin…
That is cold enough to hurt at this time of year. Is that seasonal? Even for Montana sounds colder than normal for November.
The first job I had my contractor do on my house was this coming week in 1989. I had contacted him on a recommendation more than 6 months earlier, but, well, ya know, contractors ‘n all that, the week before TG was when he was ‘available’ to begin.
The job was to dig out around the foundations, remorter them, do water drainage sys, etc. The temp was the coldest week before TG in the 30 years I’ve owned the house.
I’ve kept the same contractor for all these years. Not because he is responsive, which he has NEVER been, but because when he finally shows up, he does the job I want done (at roughly 20-30% more than I want to pay, at a cheap hourly wage, so you can imagine how long it takes him). But as it is an historic ‘restoration’ and he always chooses the sweet spot for the right mix of repair, modernization vs. preservation/historic patina, I’ve put up with him. PLUS, he’s a pink diaper baby so we have wonderful political discussions.
Well that’s east of the Snake and west of the Missouri too.
I don’t know about that. People who live in glass shithouses need to be careful about that sort of thing.
Jonah is a NeoCon whore just like Rove. He should be tarred and feathered.
~~~ModNote: Let’s go no further down that road, please.~~~
I think my stupid cat just ate a wasp.
See my 50.
I’m here. In fact, I have you surrounded.
It’s coooold here, mz!
We moved here in the summertime, height of the warmth for the provinces, apparently.
Oh, I’ll get used to it just fine. And Badger’s doing snowdances around the apartment, I’m sure he’s set his alarm for 3am for the first snowshower.
It is unusual, but not unheard of here. Happens every 4-5 years or so that we get a big cold snap like this around Thanksgiving (I think this is the third since I have been here). It does get that cold in January and February fairly regularly, but generally not for too long.
LOL! I see that now. I’d like some contact info. Maybe we can plan to meet here on an older diary?
Well, that will spice up his/her diet.
Is that better or worse than a cat eating peanut butter? Not that I’ve ever personally observed either. And I refuse to subject my darling dear kitteh to the indignity of peanut butter, just because someone on Caturday sez I’ll be ROFL.
Yeah, that’s why I won;t watch it. Who needs the blood pressure raised like that? There are plenty of current events doing that already
Problem is that I’m not sure there’s a way to directly contact each other thru FDL. Awhile back, everyone got the bug to get on FB and put a little FB logo beside our names, and that way we could contact each other. That seems to have gone away over the several upgrades and the novelty may have worn off, too. So other than looking for her, I’m not sure how to contact her. But I didn’t want you to miss an opportunity.
Now I am up way past my bedtime (it’s nearly midnight here) and I have a 9 a.m. appointment so I need to lick the last of the Shiraz out of my wineglass and toddle off. *waves*
I just find it funny that a book supposedly written by Palin would put down others as untalented, delusional morons who make fools of themselves in public, seeing how she fits that description perfectly.
Just email me. Maybe we can get Lurk to leave it up long enough for you to copy it and then take it down. Lurk?
~~~removed at commenter request~~~
All over it, ma’am.
/~~~
That’s the reason I’ve never seen any of Michael Moore’s movies.
Who needs the additional aggravation? I can’t imagine learning anything new.
You’re a sweetie Lurk. :)
Got it. Will send you a note in the morning.
Exactly. Those movies are meant to inform the ignorant, not to piss off the aware.
If there’s anything she’s singularly lacking in, it’s self-awareness.
I mean, complaining on her reality series premier episode about her privacy being invaded?
Thanks. Lurk, if you please… :)
Lurking,
I have it and thank you very much.
But actually found it momentarily cathartic. Missed that time when I was less cynical. Almost cried. There is a great deal about developing scars that protect emotional injuries that is dehumanizing. Reliving the emotional experience was, in that sense, rehumanizing.
Margaret,
I’m very excited and hope you will be as well. I need some additional talent and you seem right for the task.
Yes, thank you. I saw it on my way here working through the comments.
Have you also seen “Inside Job”?
Exactly.
Maybe when my personal life has more stability I’ll take a look at it. For now, it would just be adding stress.
Thanks for the review though! :)
Where are you?
I can’t force myself to watch biopics about people with whom I’m familiar. I watched about 10 minutes of the PBS Masterpiece Contemporary tonight, ostensibly based on the life of John Lennon. I could accept the primary actor, who was a little uglier than John but whose speech was a reasonably good impression. When it got to a scene with actors portraying the other three Beatles I had to turn it off, it was simply horrible. The script (what I saw of it) was incredibly hackneyed, which certainly did not help.
Which is why I do want to see it — thanks for this eCAHN.
Well Teddy, being stupid enough to marry the doughy pantload doesn’t necessarily mean that she writes as badly as he does.
Plays a pretty mean harpsichord too. No wait, that was Lurch.
Rattie!
Come on. Do you think for even one minute that she would let him publish that tripe if she could actually write and knew the difference? Could you live with that kind of shame?
Oh you’re still in the acclimation phase as it’s only been some months now. Adaption does mean you’ll start to wear a cap or hoodie most of the year with a slicker over top unless you like the lumber jack look which is still pretty popular in the NW because this is where the big trees grow and home of she.with.which.one.mustn’t.argue (Gert Boyles).
You rang? :)
I’m in the Carolina South. Just below Charlotte of the Carolina North. Actually, just a few miles across the line. Ruth and I are old pals and have been on other blogs for years. Oh yeah, Watertiger, Attaturk, and others that are here as well have known me for years on blogs.
After a long hiatus, I’ve written another diary and I’ll publish it sometime tomorrow. It will give you a look into the stupid shit I do to occupy myself. I have way too much time on my hands…
Dunno how I can help from central Texas but I admit my curiosity is officially piqued.
But she is stupid enough, also, to ghost”write” for Sarah Palin!
I mean, what kind of a future does one have with that on the resume?
(oh, jeebus, don’t even answer that, our culture is so horribly degraded….)
She’s aware of how to rake in money with her act. Gotta give her that. She puts others down as if she and her followers are better. They’re not. She says others expect the government to take care of them and then whines about being a victim. And for all she does for America (joke), money pours into her pockets.
No I haven’t. Am unaware. Please explain.
I’ll try not to soil the nested comments (I detest those damned things).
There was a Halloween marathon of those old Carolyn Jones/John Astin Addam’s Family episodes. It’s been a long time so I watched quite a bit of it. Ted Cassidy was a wonderful Lurch.
I have time as well. NOt something that I am proud of, but time will help and hopefully by January it will be up and running fast.
Congrats on the century.
It is web based, so distance is not a factor.
Yeah I’m not a huge fan of them either. I spent some time on this one and I’ve checked and re-checked the math and I’m still astonished.
Oh, well that’s cool then. Have internet connection, will stay put! ;)
Yep. Good point.
Aaaarrrgggghhhhh!
I feel condemned to having to be asked questions about my fellow Wasillian for the rest of my life.
Poor Ted, left us way too soon. His family buried his ashes in the backyard and then forgot where. Think I read it had since been paved over, anyway his family split decades ago and left him behind.
Made a great Star trek android too. Had to love the voice!
I quit making excuses for my fellow Okies years ago. I just tell folks thst they suddenly all went batshit crazy and dumb as a stump. Of course it helps that I left 20+ years ago.
I hereby do solemnly swear that I’ll never ask you a question about Caribou Barbie and or Trailer Trash Ken. Fair?
Here’s a link to the trailer. It’s an excellent documentary about the Banksters. I saw it last week. I thought it did a great job of explaining in detail exactly what had happened. I’d recommend it. The parts I wasn’t already aware were about how academia has been playing into the problem.
I put that on for awhile, including catching the “Masterpiece Contemporary” title.
To be sure I was otherwise engaged, but with that in the background (didn’t even know it was about the Beatles) I decided that “Masterpiece Contemporary” meant PBS show made in England in accents guaranteed that U.S.ians could not unnerstan them. Whereupon I switched to another channel, which I’m also am not paying any attention to.
I’m not about to leave. hopefully, Palin is.
Me, too. The less I hear about the Wasilla white trash (and every town has them, if not generally splashed all over the national media), the happier I am.
Thank you, thank you.
*she said, bowing*
No, you can ask away. Duty bound and what, eh?
Same here with the Carolinians. I used to be so proud of the area and the history, but DAMN if I can justify Thurmond and Demented.
I really enjoyed Raul Julia as Gonzo with Anjelica Huston as Morticia in the later Addamses.
I think it’s time for this little piggy to go to bed. Oya all!
What Are Little Girls Made Of?
Yeah, I’m a nerd. Recorded all the ST episodes on audio cassettes and listened to them over and over in my early teens. Maybe help explain why I’m a hermit curmudgeon today… it took a lifetime of diligent preparation.
Nuh-unh! We ain’t letting her in down here in the lower forty-eight. Ya’ll are stuck with her.
Yes. Mixed feelings, as you can tell. Intellectually, not so good, but emotionally, while challenging, worthwhile. W was really a piece-o-shit, and we need reminding IMO.
Well, then there’s the matter of my not being interested in them…
Nighters!
I should toddle off as well. Take care all.
Whenever I curse McCain for bringing her into all our lives, I thank the universe for bringing you into mine, so that I understood the mortal danger we were all in when Badger woke me the morning after the Democratic Convention ended with the words, “McCain chose Sarah Palin as Veep.”
I’m a dork too. Even my diary tomorrow touches on Trek
Anything with Anjelica Huston is worth watching.
Americans tend to have a tough time with all UK dialects but The Queen’s English, meaning if they’re not depicting aristocracy it’s pretty much a lost cause. I spend a lot of time watching UK TV and do pretty well with the northern dialects but some of it still gets past me.
I’m all in favor of that! Remind those who think he was some kind of 9/11 hero. Please.
Now I’m really going to bed. It’s either that or pass out here and slide right out of my chair and sleep under the desk. Nighters!
G’nite DrDick and scritches to DrSmoke.
Read a long but interesting article over at Raw this evening. It was an interview with Norm Chomsky. He states that the elites are really Marxists and will only admit it to each other.
Sweet dreams, Margaret. :)
My first memories of TV in this life were of a Star Trek episode.
Aw, Teddy. All I can say is Sweet!
Teddy! That is a great reply to ET!
Nite all. Sleep well cause tomorrow will bring more political shit to discuss.
Do you remember which episode?
True! If you listen to a lot of Irish and Scottish music, it gets easier. Hey you! I thought you were leaving…how are you?
The pilot unit before Shakespearean actor, William Shatner.
The Menagerie. Actually the pilot was called The Cage but no one saw an uncut version of that until much later.
I was an sci-fi buff– instantly.
Niters!
Great line in Family Guy, as Stewie and Brian walk into Brian’s first green room for his best-selling book interview: “I said no grey M&Ms — they’s ALL grey!”
I think the first episode I ever watched was the second pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before. Still one of my favorite episodes.
I ken unnerstan U.K. dialects if I care to. Problem was that the portion I caught seemed too soap operaish to make the effort.
I know how much he and his entire community have suffered for her fame.
I don’t think that wonderful little town, or its inhabitants, will ever be the same for what she’s wrought (and will bring down upon) us.
Imagine traveling anywhere on the planet, and telling people you’re from a tiny little town on the Alaska frontier. When you name it, people say, “Oh, Sarah Palin‘s hometown!”
Never better and you? Actually I’m having surgery a week after Thanksgiving. Relatively minor thing, straightening and fusing a deflicted big toe. Have to go off my daily regimen of pain meds the week before though, which terrifies me.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Star Trek exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum. Pretty kewl.
That’s amazing to remember your first TV. Mine was an episode of the Cisco Kid.
I couldn’t bear it. I so admire ET and the Mudflats.
Yep, it’s not that all UK television is better than ours, it’s just that unlike us they don’t usually export their worst programs. Another example of American Exceptionalism, the rest of the world should have to pay to look at our garbage.
Crying hard. With great sadness, I report that Chalmers Johnson has died.
Oh wow, I didn’t know they had one. I never see the show now. Would mostly enjoy it for the camp value. As a kid I took it VERY seriously…
Rest in peace, Mr. Johnson.
Yes, indeed. Well deserved.
Breathe deep ratfood, and do what your doc tells you to do, and try to exercise your parts. My feet are a major concern in my life. I’m constantly worried if they can submit to another tour.
I also remember watching the Kennedys on the tube when he was shot. Most of the family was there and witnessed it.
‘Stupid’…?
Hmmm, that’s a trifle harsh, Mr. Partridge – No doubt young Goldberg has a modest sum tucked away from sales of those ghastly pamphlets of his, and his carnal desires are no doubt quickly satiated by a bowl of pork rinds and saltine crackers mixed with a raucous online sesh of Halo 3…for a Republican marriage of convenience that’s as good as it gets.
;>)
I didn’t take it seriously. It was this huge morality play for the most part. I thought many of the devices would be created in my life time except the spacecraft.
I’ve maintained a fairly rigorous 6-day exercise routine for several years but problems with my feet prevent me from taking long walks and largely as a result of that weight management has been a struggle. Hoping this will help with that. Surgeon says full recovery could take 4-6 months but hoping I can return to my regular exercise routine, or some modified version, soon after the surgery.
Debated putting it off until after winter but decided to get it over with. Hoping we have a comparatively snowless winter.
Going to call it a night. Thanks to host Teddy. Splendid evening to all.
Nighty, night, ratfood.
It isn’t that easy. More than once, I’ve been out of state in a group of people. New ones. Somebody asks where I’m from. “Wasilla,” I answer. The inevitable follows. It can go anywhere from there, depending on what this group of new people represents. But I get asked a lot of questions.
Inevitably, though, someone new comes into the room and overhears us discussing Palin. When the new person discerns I’m the one who seems to be inflicting Palin on everyone, I get yelled at by the late comer. Things usually go downhill from there.
Best of luck, my friend! I’m cheering for you (and my old horrid feet, too).
Kisses. Chris
Yes, indeed, db.
Welcome back.
We just can’t quit her, can we?
Perhaps you should travel as if you are foreigner to this country for awhile. It certainly will bring amusement.
Choke me with a spoon!
Thank you, sir – Nothing quite like a divorce to put one’s life in perspective. Quite bracing, IMO.
;>)
Nope. Actually thinking of starting up Saradise Lost, Book 5.
fdl may be one of the only places I can travel as someone else. And it stopped being a genuine disguise a while ago.
CTuttle is upstairs!
Late, Late Night FDL: Can You Tell
For awhile wherever I went I got the question of why Shrubya was the American President. The only thing I could do was apologize for that fact and I did mean it. It’s been a decade now and so many are on the Toobz. Folks are more sophisticated about Americans and there true situation now.
I traveled in Europe during both Watergate summers.
Explaining the insanity of American politics while abroad has never been easy.
I’m surprised that Jonah isn’t married to Chuck Todd on NBC “News.”
They have the same facial hair and share identical political beliefs.
Surely you are not suggesting that Chuck Todd is a narcissist?
Or that Jonah is? Or both?
