There seems to have been twin outbreaks of bullshittery and dipshittery in the North Star State last week. The first involves a dumbass James O’Keefe wannabee named Pierre “Pete” Arnold III, also known as “The Pete” and “Zeeboid”. The second involves a dumbass faux-Mexican restaurant mogul wannabee and Republican Party of Minnesota Chair named Tony Sutton and a dumbass Republican consultant named Diana Bratlie, the person Sutton thought would make a good witness for his latest nuisance lawsuit in the Dayton-Emmer governor’s race recount.
Starting with the first dumbass, we first encountered him this week pretending to be sincerely soliciting the opinions of people as to whether or not his wife should have an abortion — which, considering he is notorious online for being a rather trollish anti-choicer, immediately set off the bullshit detectors of all who saw his website and poll.
As for the second set of dumbasses, the UpTake reports the following information concerning Diana Bratlie:
As The UpTake documented in 2008, Diana Bratlie has been paid thousands of dollars by Representative Kline for political research, and has a history of making inaccurate claims about facts, figures and DFL candidates’ stances on issues. In 2008, The UpTake witnessed Bratlie attempting to tell the media that the DFL candidate running against Kline had just said he didn’t want to drill for oil anywhere. She then repeated that claim in a letter to the editor published in the Eagan “This Week” newspaper. A replay of the news conference on which Bratlie based that statement clearly showed that not to be the case.
Speaking of which, the UpTake video in question is at the top of this post.

TOO FUNNY! PW, your analysis above is too good. The crazies, they just keep falling out of the tree.
They really do.
It’s unreal. They think they can get away with lie after lie after lie.
Then again, considering that the local legacy media’s yet to pick up on this story, they’re probably right.
As a life-long, I’m still living so that’s a conditional statement, resident of Minnesota, I can attest to the general Ass Holiness of my home state’s right-wing politicians. While the DFLers have a fair share of idiots and incompetents, you can’t beat the Republicans here for outright Nutbaggery and duplicity. Need I mention Bachmann? Coleman, who jumped parties to retain office, any office? Boschwitz? Ventura, while technically an Independent, swings more right than left? There are innumerable examples, both national and local figures, that it would be too depressing and hard on the stomach lining to list them. The Democrats can be just as incompetent, but at least their hearts are ostensibly in the right place and they don’t seem as nasty, self-righteous, and downright venal.
That’s a whole heap of dumbass, neighbor. We’d like to ship ours somewhere, but you’re kinda full up.
We (Wisconsinites) want to run em out on a rail, but that project is on hold for a bit. Maybe that’s Walker’s plan, don’t let it be built and they can’t use it agin me.
PW
Minnesota is such a beautiful state and then you have all the nutcases who draw attention to the wrong things about the state.
Why do the people of Minnesota keep electing these idiots?
Oops, I live in Illinois and we just elected a serial liar in Mark Kirk for Senate.
I guess every state has them, what do we do to get the masses to realize that Republicans are toxic to our health?
We are sending out thoughts of greater or less intensity all the time, and we
are reaping the results of such thoughts. Not only do our thought waves
influence ourselves and others, but they have a drawing power – they attract to
us the thoughts of others, things, circumstances, people, “luck,” in accord with
the character of the thought uppermost in our minds. Thoughts of Love will
attract to us the Love of others; circumstances and surroundings in accord with
the thought; people who are of like thought. Thoughts of Anger, Hate, Envy,
Malice and Jealousy will draw to us the foul brood of kindred thoughts emanating
from the minds of others; circumstances in which we will be called upon to
manifest these vile thoughts and will receive them in turn from others; people
who will manifest in harmony; and so on. A strong thought or a thought long
continued, will make us the center of attraction for the corresponding thought
waves of others. Like attracts like in the Thought World – as ye sow so shall ye
reap. Birds of a feather flock together in the Thought World – curses like
chickens come home to roost, and bringing their friends with them.
HOPEFULLY THIS LAW WILL STOP THESE POLITICAL HATEMONGERS SOON!!!!!!!!!!
The corporate world has made their headquarters here..this means that there are going to be a rush of ‘dumb asses’ relocating here..Thanks Minnesota you have polluted the upper midwests brain trust.
Actually they do get away with all their lies. BECAUSE no one refutes them. I am not talking about sites like FireDogLake but about places like LTE to refute like the Eagan paper. Did anyone write in with the transcript to refute the lie? Newspapers all over print LTE that are full of rethug BS and lies. So, do people respond with proveable truths? Or does everyone just let it all slide in the “real world” but get full of “piss and vinegar” on blogs like this one?
I write LTE to my local paper every time I see lies in the LTE. Most of my letters get printed. I am not afraid to put my real name on my LTE. I have gotten some hate mail in response but do not care. Only by actually writing a LTE to show the BIG LIE for what it is will the democratic side have a chance. If we don’t then the rethugs(AKA Authoritarians) win without a fight. Which,it seems, is what they are doing now.
While it might make you all feel good to bitch in FDL comments it does nothing at all to advance the truth. Neither does waiting for Some Other Guy to do it for you.

Srsly? As a Minnesotan, I kindly ask you go, you know, yourself.
In the nicest way possible of course.
Unrelated, but we keep electing these people for a variety of reasons. For one, Bachmann’s district is ridiculously gerrymandered. Second, in all our gubernatorial contests since 98 we have always had a hopeless third party Independence candidate trying to do what Ventura did. Bleh.
Oh, that and a bunch of out of staters keep moving to our suburbs. I wish we could close the border, or at least screen them. But alas…
See, you are also waiting for Some Other Guy to do the job for you. I quote, “waiting for the local media to pick up on this story.” Yep. That is it in a nutshell. Why the democrats are getting beat to death on lies and damn lies. BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE WAITING FOR THE LOCAL MEDIA TO PICK UP ON THE STORY.
Did you ever think that maybe it might possibly be a good idea to write your own LTE refuting the lie? OR, failing that, how about a call to the editor with a reference to the truth? Local papers live and die on advertising and readers. If enough readers start calling and taking a few min. to write an LTE then the paper will print the LTE or a story.
But waiting for Some Other Guy to do it is just being lazy.As is just bitching about it on LTE blog. So, are you going to contact the Eagan paper? How about someone who subscribes to that paper? Anybody?I won’t because I do not have the transcript, nor am I a resident of MN. I do contact my local paper enough that they know my name and have even called me when they have printed a story or LTE that they know I will get after them about.
Timothy Richley
Mr. Arnold’s wife should not have an abortion if she neither wants nor needs one. His mother, however, should have had one.
Minnesota has too damn many immigrants. Send them all back to Scandinavistan!
Seriously? What in the world would ever give you the idea that PW doesn’t do this? Ot that I haven’t for that matter? Oh, that’s right, you don’t live here.
Perhaps, since your opinion is so valuable to your local paper because so much is going on there, you might want to consider starting a diary here, so that the rest of us can learn about it first hand.
Sheesh.
What kind of statement is that? You sure do make assumptions.
Indeed.
Oh, indeed. Bachmann’s butt’s been temporarily reprieved by the temporary GOP lege takeover (if 700 votes had gone the other way, the DFL would still have the House for starter), but her CD is the one that’s best suited to being chopped up. That’s why she’s raising money like crazy: She wants to run against Klobuchar for Senate in 2012. (Boehner and the other House Republican leadership figures will be glad to see her go, by the way.)
No kidding. What he doesn’t understand is that, by bringing this to a national audience (if not international), I’m prodding the local legacy papers and electronic media — the biggest of which are owned by Republicans and/or have movement Republicans in key positions — through the tool of the scoop.
The local legacy media has gone out of its way to play nice with the GOP. From soft-pedaling and spiking reports of Bachmann’s extremism (and thus allowing her to win elections), to refusing to address long-standing questions about Norm Coleman’s home life even as they faked attacks of the vapors over Al Franken’s writing for Playboy, to ignoring the murky origins and precarious state of RPM Chair Tony Sutton’s apparent taco turkey farm for Republicans and their fellow travelers like Freedom Club founder and Minnesota Taxpayer’s League bigwig Michael Wigley even as they dutifully report as news the inevitable yearly Republican complaints about the DFL doughnut booth at the State Fair, to downplaying if not outright ignoring the less savory aspects of the Emmer family through the decades (see here and here), the local press largely treats local Republicans with kid gloves. Letters to the editor help, but it’s going to take repeated scoops, preferably by out-of-town media, to make them realize that they’re turning into a laughingstock for turning blind eyes to big stories in their own backyard.
