When his campaign was still in its infancy last year, Rand Paul sat down with Alex Jones, the nutcase conspiracy monger radio personality based in Austin, Texas. There’s lots of crazy in here — equating police profiling with “thought crimes,” calling Obama supporters “brownshirts,” comparing medical treatment with buying a cell phone, expressing skepticism about the swine flu vaccine — and of course, the obligatory Hitler fear-mongering.
You had the money destroyed in Germany in 1923, and out of that chaos came Hitler who promised that these awful people were the ones doing this to you and we need to round the up and put them in camps. And the liberties just went out the window. But people actually democratically voted in Hitler. And I worry about that again in our country.
As pointed out previously, all of that is wrong.
In retrospect, it’s pretty easy to see why Mitch McConnell wanted no part of Paul. People who give rambling, paranoid interviews to reality-challenged lunatics like Alex Jones do not belong in the United States Senate.
But that’s where we are.

Except Hitler was appointed Chancellor…
There are going to be some “interesting” speeches given in the Senate this year. Rand will be babbling and the Rs will be cringing trying to pretend they don’t know him.
Among other things.
And Rand wants business to have the right to refuse to serve anyone for any reason including though he would never say it race, sexual orientation and religion.
Just who is more like Hitler? Rand or Obama?
Must See, Tee Vee. Pure Comedy.
Not to mention that bizarre rant about using fear to consolidate power. Uh, was he in a coma during Bush/Cheney and the War on Terror(TM)?
Business freedom to discriminate restricts everyone from getting equal access to goods and services this creates monopolies look at the price of fresh food in Ghettos vs the burbs.
Rand does hate monopolies or is his economic philosophy cool with that?
Well he appointed himself other things. To the best of my memory, he was never elected anything officially.
To a glibertarian like Rand, monopolies aren’t a bug, they’re a feature.
I missed that one. Didn’t Tea Baggers in his state show up to Healthcare Town Hall meetings with guns? When I heard that I started going to Town Halls everyone started going I never saw them get even one tenth the crowds we did at those rallies.
Rand is the Tea Party in his state his guys bring guns just like the Nazi’s did.
I’m getting a kick out of all of these freshmen teabaggers in the House going around ranting about how they are going to “block” this and “repeal” that. Do they really have so little awareness of how government “works”?
Rand and his Dad have what economic credentials?
But, you see — it’s never a problem when
white peoplereal merkans show up anywhere with guns. That exactly the point – they know nothing about how gov’t works or what the Constitution says. We are going to remember the class of 2011 for years to come.
They have to worry about being investigated? Far as I can see the FBI is sitting on their ass not investigating hate groups, Tea Baggers and their corporate funders.
Oh yeah. Maybe it will wake up some of the reflexive, low information voters who vote for a party based on a perception that “everybody else is”. I won’t hold my breath though.
Of course not. They’re far too busy arresting gay activists and harassing Code Pink and MoveOn.
Greed and no social conscience?
Criticism makes the country great yes Rand but not lies just how many Tea Baggers believe Obama is a Muslim, a Socialist, death camp healthcare, etc?
Town Halls questions were screened? We are afraid of hard questions this from the guy who tried to get out of a debate because he could not answer questions about kidnapping.
Real not Chicago school economic Cred.
Was reading somewhere the other day that people who voted for the tea party candidates are already having buyer’s remorse and wondering what they’ve gotten themselves into.
Rand brags about cell phone prices has he ever heard about the price deals in socialist France?
Wonder what ghost is going to think about all this?
I’m sorry but anybody who can’t get certified as a specialist in his field so he makes one up, starts off without having any credibility with me. Kids do that. It’s called “pretend”.
No doubt they’ll lapse back into their comas until it touches them in a personal and disastrous way.
Yesterday’s “nutty” is today’s “conventional wisdom.”
Polio vaccine yesterday good bad vaccines today people should have choice incase the vaccine is bad as a Doctor you never heard the word epidemic or Plague? Because thats what you risk Rand how many times do things like whooping cough appear in the burbs now because parents don’t get their kids shots?
Rand more government regulation would mean that kids wouldn’t die in the first place from a vaccine OR NOT GETTING A VACCINE!
Take “trickle down economics” for example. :-/
I always wanted more follow up to that story after all where do we draw the line can I do that too and practice medicine without a medical degree?
I couldn’t help but notice that right after that little jewel came out, suddenly it was all about “Aqua Buddha”. Your intrepid media in action.
The elite like bacteria eat until the food is almost all gone then their poison poop kills them thats why booze stops fermenting. I suspect guys like Rand or drunk off their own poop.
Damm I missed this story too when it came out:(
I didn’t know this nutcase had children! Are they sons?
We should mate them with the Palin girls and see if we can make uberkrazies!
Funny. Listening now to Genesis’ Misunderstanding. Must be some kind of mistake. Paul’s just so freaky weird.
(When I’m gardening, I listen to a cable rock and roll music channel. John just sang And, We All Shine On. It’s a wonderful mix of music, earth, plants and politics I’m doing.
This will bring you up to speed.
They guys I work with that come over from India can’t believe the prices here. The rates are insane, the contracts and termination fees are insane, even the prices of phones are insane.
But Rand knows best. Maybe the cost of an iPhone doesn’t seem that much to him because he makes more than $250,000 a year.
Uberkrazies? You mean uberkaaziers?
#%!&*$@ Hippie!
Man has learned to clean up his environment and tries to regulate his resource consumption so he does not eat himself out of house, home and oil.
Throw backs to bacteria like Rand Newt and Rush would eat themselves out of food, oil etc and care not about pollution just so long as they get to eat, get high, chase women, men etc.
They use rules to restrict the little people as they run to the front of the line.
These double high Authoritarians rule what Aristotle would call natural slaves.
Sure, that’ll work. I just wanna see if the spawn of Bristol and a Rand Paul Jr. would have two heads, one in Kentucky and one in Russia.
LMAO! If the human race is lucky, maybe the DNA of Neanderthals and bigots will be incompatible.
I’m pretty sure that such a pairing could cause an explosion or radioactive fallout or something. Just too scary…
What makes the Tea Baggers slaves rather than work together to get America out of this mess they try and pull back into the lobster tank any other lobster Race,Sex, Religion etc that tries to crawl out.
Divide and Conquer the cook the double high Authoritarians reward the slave lobsters for keeping the non slave lobsters down.
Accepting your oppressed and identifying with your oppressors interests over your own makes you a slave much like some abused kids favor the abusing parent over the non abusive parent they try and curry favor with their abuser.
Stockholm Syndrome is the Tea Baggers populist appeal.
Instead of the master race, they’d be the disaster race.
I think the child was mentioned in the bible toward the back look for a 999 on his forehead.
Rand Paul won his Senate seat in Kentucky because Kentuckians hate Obama. As long as Rand Paul is anti-Obama, nothing else matters to Kentuckians. It does not matter that Rand Paul wants to cut Kentuckians off from the federal dollars they receive (about 52% of Kentuckians get Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid). All that counts is that Rand Paul will do everything he can to help McConnell bring Obama down in 2012. So Rand Paul can say whatever the hell he wants to in next few years, except for a stray kind word for Obama (i.e., “Obama was good to his mother”).
Now, if he ever said anything like that about Obama, the rednecks here would be up in arms!
Credentials? It’s of course entirely possible in today’s world to have superb economic credentials and still be an absolute crank.
The Pauls are, I believe, students of the “Austrian School” which includes such luminaries as Hayek, von Mises, Rothbard, etc. The main thrust of their ideation is that money and economic relations developed independently of government. Government is therefore unnecessary and its involvement in the economy can only be detrimental. They could never really prove their assertions with historical facts so they invented plausible fables how it “must have been.”
I give the old man some credit in that he at least seems to have read some of the stuff.
Maybe Rand can just hire Bristol as an intern. Then we’ll know the answer soon :)
My favorite part is the feeling, when I’m having a day like this, that I’m the boss of me! I’m creating a little garden of eden in a corner of my yard. Painting a little table I bought at the thrift store and making a planks and brick shelf full of cactus and succulents. Those I can get by taking cuttings of stuff already growing in the yard. What do they say about mothers and necessity? Shine on, indeed.
Ew.
I think the Tea Party is basically over, having served its purpose (i.e. re-branding the Bush supporters). Even Sarah Palin is getting trashed on Faux News these days. Tea Party candidates who won election will either join the establishment or be marginalized like Ron Paul.
And the beat goes on… Guess conservative/libertarian/whatthefacks will find some ways & means to “explain” this nutty nonsensical dumbfackery. How the likes of AynRand Paul, who clearly lives in a “universe” of his own making, will “solve” our problems is, as yet, quite unclear.
Hope the Kochs, the Murdochs & the rest of the Gee Oh Pee’ers are happy now…. does this dickhead somehow equate to more money for someone???
Gotta get up and get down the road for a bit. Laters.
Paul did have a medical degree from Duke. He skipped his senior year at Baylor to enter Med school (not a totally uncommon action), so he does not have a bachelors degree
I dunno, he doesn’t seem any crazier than Reagan, and that guy was actually President.
Are you saying Rand Paul, 2012?
Oooo! A Rand/Angle ticket! It’ll be great!
AND THE KILLIN GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Blue Texan and FDL walkin’ wounded:
Where are all those folks who back in the healthcare fight were callin for consideration of Ron and Rand Paul as legitimate allies in the fight against ObamaRahma and corporate fascism? We are at the same point that the Germans were in 1932-33 and that America was in 1930-32. The only difference for us in this country is that from 1929 to 1932 there was no government bailout of the banksters and the oligarchs so capital was not consolidated for complete takeover of the political system.
The same oligarchs and investment bankers who survived the Depression and the Neew Deal and who financed and profited from Hitler’s overthrow of Weimar, learned valuable lessons then and have succeeded now in saving their brothers and sisters from jumpin outta windows or tryin ta capture the market from the end of a soup line. Ron and Rand Paul and the corporate fascists of Dick Army and company have been here before and not only are they back but they have succeeded in privitizing (read plundering) our county’s treasury.
So where are all those FDL “radicals” and livingroom revolutionaries who gave moral legitimacy to Ron and Rand over Obama now that we are faced with the full blown fascist takeover of our politics?? We could use ya at neighborhood meetings and regular meetings of the local Democratic Party…on second thought, ((edited by mod.))
((modnote: stop abusing fellow commenters.))
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION SINCE YOU CAN’T USE IT ANYWAY!!!
Why was this posted under a headline containing the phrase deeply nutty.
They give Austrian school nuts college degrees but they are anti science they don’t think experiments can prove anything
http://my.firedoglake.com/thingscomeundone/2010/03/10/real-world-experience-vs-ron-pauls-austrian-economics-as-it-relates-to-healthcare/
Economics has become religion…a false religion Elijah challenged the Priests of Baal to have their God light a fire they failed.
Elijah prayed and God lit a fire.
Austrians economists learned from the Priests of Baal and said Faith needs no proof. Sadly modern religion has also followed Baals priests :(
But still how can anti science get you a degree in anything but religion?
Same people every day. Same oversimplifying. Same ungenerous interpretations of what someone is saying. This is another silly Blue Texan thread. This is the kind of nonsense that makes progressives look really unserious. Say whatever you want about Alex Jones, but he has had more noteworthy guests on his show than FDL has had in its book salon. Say what you want about him, but 1/3 of Democrats and 1/2 of FDL readers (at least!) believe that the official 9/11 story is a myth. Get your mind around that Blue Texan. Just peruse the comments when the topic comes up. Events will soon overtake FDL if it doesn’t stop doing these paradigm preserving shill jobs. It is quite possible that when the history of this period is written, Alex Jones will get a chapter and FDL won’t even get a footnote.
Just one question Blue Texan: Was that a Chinese missile fired off of LA, or was that just a con-trail? Please spare me any kind of I’m no expert bullshit attempt to avoid the question. Lay your cards on the table. Missile or con-trail?
Why well to a non slave the idea of identifying with your oppressor’s interests over your own does seem deeply nutty and it does confuse us non slave Lefties. I try and understand my enemies.
I could do without the ad hominem nonsense here. Alex Jones has been right more times than I care to count. 9/11, various false flag terror attacks, flouride, mercury in vaccinations, etc., etc. And HE is the one that made the TSA grope-downs an issue two weeks ago which Jane Hamsher is now joining in on.
Now on this particular issue with Alex, I haven’t bothered to listen to this interview because on the issue of Rand Paul, Alex’s thinking is admittedly crippled by his fanboy worship of Ron Paul and his blind spot; his ideological foundation in libertarianism and his paleoconservative foundation. But I still listen to his podcast everyday because he is one of the few people out there without some sort of filter, and because he does the research, and because he’s a fighter who is usually ahead of the curve. This interview is probably Alex at his worst, so I would hope you would not just judge him on his Achilles’ heel moments.
BT, you only do yourself a disservice by calling Alex Jones “crazy”. We NEED crazy people like this in a nation of appeasement-ready sheep to rouse us to some kind of dissenting action. Why not look for common ground with infowars instead of dividing our forces against whom we really should be attacking; the banksters. (Now they are the “crazy” ones; thinking that QE2 is going to help our economy!
Lastly, I’ve made a lot of money on investing in gold, and that’s another thing “crazy” Alex was right about. Crazy like a fox, IMO.
Didn’t the Commies and Nazi’s cooperate in Germany to oust the ruling political parties at the time? That was a disaster for the Commies.
Prove anything BT said was wrong Rand’s comments about cell phones show he has grasp of world cell phone prices than a one college econ class person. (that would be me not BT).
Rand holds himself out as an expert but if I can take him down yes he deserves laughter.
Today’s world? What about Saye, Ricardo and Sumner?
Citizen TCU:
Bless your pure heart Brother TCU but you are right on the money…the Stalinists had nuthin’ over the Nazis or even some of the radial wannabees around here in their distain for democracy or understanding of real grassroots political action.
I think it was a false flag operation, coordinated by the federal reserve, the trilateral commission, and the Illiuminati, to trick the sheeple into invading Asia because the Chinese are about to blow up our currency.
Also.
Lessons learned at Prescott Bush’s knee.
Citizen Blue Texan:
Why engage these lunatics? I only come back to this site once and awhile to get a good look at why progressive democracy is failing…don’t give these poor folks visablility or they will come back atcha aes your Senator.
We have already been through this record on Rand Paul. The people have spoken. He is the Junior Senator-Elect from the state of Kentucky and you people simply will have to deal with it. Rand Paul is no more dangerous than Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, Mary Landrieu, Jim Demint or Lindsey Graham. All members of both wings of the Republican Party have the same agenda. An added bonus: Rand Paul will be comedy gold for the Daily Show………………..
David Dayen has a fresh cross-post ready: More Deficit Commission Reports, When We Need a Growth Commission Report
Heh.
The first 5 sentences made me think he’d be called a “righty troll”, but then the shark got jumped and he landed at the far other end of the spectrum.
To be fair I was among them until I did more research on Ron Paul. That and more readings on WW2 the Lake educates we can’t hassle people for not being as learned as you are.
We have to debate and educate plus as BT’s posts try to do have fun doing it. I think the fun is what drives the trolls nuts about BT.
Well, I don’t know. I think those names you mentioned have had their work distorted and misused by unscrupulous neoliberals. I think Ricardo’s work holds up alright in the context of the classical tradition. I doubt if he would recognize his own ideas in the current phrase “Ricardian equivalency.”
Wow comrade BT you brought out all the crazies on this one – lefty crazy, righty crazy and just plain old school crazy.
And you are spot on – Alex Jones is a nutcase but his radio show is most enjoyable if you get a kick out of listening to nutcase spew.
Alex,
Can be out there but he was way out front on the TSA thuggery and said how HS would use each terror incident to take away more and more of our rights. Alex was pushing this latest groping stuff way before anyone else and kept the heat on and his stuff got picked up by drudge etc, and helped this whole thing go viral. MSM was silent until now about TSA groping and NBS> Alex has also been ahead of the curve on the private cartel known as the FED, and again only recently has mainstream talking heads started to question the FED with increasing intensity.
Sure he says stuff that is completely wrong, but the point is to demonize him simply as a nut is messed up. Everyone should get their news and information from multiple sources, check it all out. Why? because by doing so you can then make a more informed decision. Listening only to right wing or left wing or conspiracy wing is to only listen to a narrow viewpoint.
I agree with you!
in todays world, you better listen to what everyone is saying
left, right, consipiracy, tea party, etc.
Hilter was appointed chancellor by Hindenburg after the Nazi Party won a plurality of the vote in the parliamentary elections of 1933. That’s the way parliamentary systems typically work: the leader of the largest party gets the first chance to form a government. (The Nazis in fact also won a plurality in the 1932 election, but at that time Hindenburg chose someone other than Hilter–the leader of a smaller party–to be chancellor. That government fell within months.)
The Nazis’ seizure of dictatorial power came after Hitler became chancellor.
So yes, the Nazis did in fact come to power at the ballot box.
That’s just not right. First, the election you reference took place in 1932. Second, Hindenburg was under no obligation to appoint Hitler chancellor. He was tired, old, senile, and out maneuvered.
There was nothing “typical” about Hitler’s appointment.
HA HA HA HA. That Alex Jones sure is a crazy dumb fucker. And Ron Paul? What a loopy doopy dummy poopy. HA HA HA HA.
Why is Blue Texas intent on repeating the mistakes of Weimar?
My recently completed caricature of little Randy.
Blue Texan: there were several German elections in the space of less than 12 months during 1932 and 1933. The Nazi Party consistently won the largest share of the votes (30 to 40 percent). Wikipedia has summaries:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election,_July_1932
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election,_November_1932
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election,_March_1933
The last of these occurred after the Reichstag fire and was marked by various forms of intimidation, but the 1932 elections are considered to have been fair. I guess you can argue whether this means that the German people “voted for Hitler”, strictly speaking, but the fact is that the Nazis won a plurality.
“The Nazis won a plurality” is not the same thing as “Hitler was voted in.”
He wasn’t. Hitler was clobbered by Hindenburg — twice — and Hindenberg was not required to appoint him to anything. That’s the key point.
Paul is deeply confused about the timeline, too. Hitler wasn’t appointed Chancellor until 1933, yet Paul is talking about the inflation of 1923, which Weimar had under control by the mid-twenties.
He’s wrong about everything.
