Take Walter Pincus, who during the Bush Administration frequently pointed out the White House spin on military and intelligence matters was often patently false. Oh, he didn’t do this on the front page or the editorial page, he normally did this buried well into the paper, usually around page 17 or so, aka, “The Walter Pincus Page”.
Well in the wake of Bush’s “memoir” Mr. Pincus is still around to note his falsehoods and illogical arguments (or perhaps more accurately Bush’s quotes of others’ falsehoods and illogical arguments).
In one of several passages in the book where he questions his decisions, Bush writes that he should have pushed harder on the intelligence, but adds, “at the time the evidence and logic pointed in the other direction.” His most interesting personal reflection follows: “If Saddam doesn’t actually have WMD, I asked myself, why on earth would he subject himself to a war he most certainly will lose?”
Hussein did not have those weapons and the inspections were beginning to show it, but neither Bush nor most Americans at the time were prepared to accept the idea that it is almost impossible to prove a negative.
I don’t know about the ‘most Americans’ line, but otherwise it is accurate.
Oh, and it is on Page 29 of yesterday’s paper.
So Walter Pincus can’t even get on the Walter Pincus Page anymore.
You are serving your corporate masters well Fred Hiatt.

Die already, WaPoS. You’re stinkin’ up the joint.
How sad. Dubyah would be The Worst President Ever™–if only he’d been President.
Wounded Nation
Apropos of nothing. I posted this at DK last night and I am still pissed just thinking of it. So I wanted to scream some more.
—————
Sometimes I just want to scream!!
What the fuck do they want!!!!
From the WSJ
The US taxpayers made the thieving fucks 100% whole, the very banksters that got us into this mess are making record compensation again, their lobbyists already literally write most of the bills in Congress, they’ve been getting favorable tax treatment for decades now, they’ve shipped millions of US jobs overseas, the SC has just ruled their companies are really people so they can literally buy the Congress now, both political parties cater to their every fucking whim , and on and on and on.
AND IT”S STILL NOT ENOUGH!!. THERE ISN”T EVEN ANYFUCKINGTHING such as enough anymore!!
Here’s an idea: Why don’t we just fire all 435 so-called legislators and put 435 CEO’s and corporate lobbyists in their place instead! Maybe then they greedy fucking scumbags will be happy.
WHAT THE FUCK ALREADY!
And no, I don’t even feel better….
Adding: Of course 435 so called legislators should of course be 535 so called legislators and 435 CEO scumbags and lobbyist scumbags should of course be 535 scumbag CEO’s and lobbyists.
That’s why you should never scream when you’re pissed.
Of course Mr. TortureMurderTreason lies,so.
The ever useful blame the victim ploy put to new use. Innovative, these guys. Old lie in new guise.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd and Friedman this morning. MoDo has produced something called “The Way They Were” in which she goes on about Robert and Barbra and Dick and W., reuniting to celebrate The Way We Were. It appears that she’s one of the kewl kidz who were in Dallas for the groundbreaking for W’s monument to his horror of a presidency… The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Too Good to Check,” addresses the tall tale just had to be repeated. And repeated. And repeated. The facts had to wait till Anderson Cooper checked them out.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready and I’ve got toasted Thomas’ English muffins with your favorite jam. Just reading about W and Dick has made me feel all icky and slimy… Maybe another shower is in order. At least another cup of tea. Have a great day.
The title needs its /s tag; we know the lying W is not news….
the Library story is one to weep for; a tribute to him at the historic SMU campus. Many thanks to the Business boys.
here’s what most people forget;
it was because the inspectors were showing there were no weapons that the big push for immediate war began, that’s when bush began an aggressive campaign to give deadlines for information that did not exist
also, bush wasn’t given information that there were weapons before the inspection he was given information there were not
d,
he manufactured information, he knew that information was false, so did england, so did germany, so did france
the man was full of shit
still full of shit
Um, I suppose the next “breaking news” item is going to be:
Breaking News: The Sun Will Rise Tomorrow!
;)
Good morning all.
I agree with all the railing against W, but it’s too early to get in the typing groove.
I’ve got my cuppa, but feel like crawling back under the down comforter & catching a few more zzzzs. The weather isn’t suppose to improve until this afternoon anyhow.
I knew there were no WMD in 2002. Most people with half a brain realized that Saddam couldn’t prove a negative and that the war was inevitable. It was like watching a train wreck..you knew something bad was gonna happen, but you were powerless to stop it.
I knew there were no weapons the first weak of inspections and I posted where ever I could;
“we can count the hair on a mans arm, if there are weapons that can reach america we know where they are, we know where they might have been hid”
every agency but cheney”s “team b” said there were no weapons, cheney’s “team b” manufactured a fantasy, they did it under ford and they did it again using exactly the same playbook
George W Bush still telling lies? This is not breaking news……………
More like broken news…
I like that one……….That was a good shot there.
Ah, how fondly I recall the Katherine Graham-Ben Bradlee era at the Washington Post.
It hasn’t fared as well under the Hiatt Regency.
Whatever… really, let’s face it. Once we, collectively as citizens, got over the shock of 911, it became obvious that Bushco would go to war, and most likely would go to war with Iraq. I’m no genius but it doesn’t take a brainiac to know that those evil bastards were out for blood & lotsa money. After the SCOTUS effected the Bushco coup, it was clear as day that the Imperial Armies would march to war in order to enrich the coffers of Darth Cheeeeeeney & his ilk.
No one I knew ever believed in the d*mned WMD; that fairy tale was just for the RUBES out there, who cling madly to this bullsh*t because they don’t want to admit how very WRONG they are and how very DUPED they’ve been. ‘Twas ever thus.
And, uh, yes: I know W is lying because his lips are moving & sound is coming out… or his idiot ghost writer tapped in some wordz into the computer machine. Whatever…
Even more odd were the dupes in Middle Eastern countries closest to Hussein who also believed he had WMD. They were right there and were stupid enough to believe it. They should have known better.
I mean, if Bush who was 5,000 miles away knew Hussein didn’t have WMD, then how stupid were those guys, Saudi Arabia and Iran, who were right THERE and thought he had them?
If Pincus can come up with the goods, why couldn’t those guys?
The man did not have a clue how culture in the Middle East works, and neither did his advisers. Of course they were all searching franticly for a plausible reason to invade Iraq anyway, why bother with facts or critical thinking?
Oh, and G. W. Bush and the truth were never in the same room together. Ever.
Fred Hiatt doesn’t edit the Post. He only edits the editorial and op-ed pages.
