Pictured: a straight shooter.
The Decider wants everyone to know — especially those Teabaggers like Jim DeMint who keep saying mean things about his big spending ways — that his fiscal record was actually really awesome.
Not surprisingly, Bush wants to push back – at the criticism from his own side as much as at the criticism from Democrats.
Spending and the deficit, he insists, didn’t go out of control on his watch. He even interrupts the often-chatty narrative of his memoir to insert a table of statistics comparing his administration’s deficits to those of his predecessors. “My administration’s ratios of spending to GDP, deficit to GDP and debt to GDP are all lower than the averages of the last three decades,” he reports.
Good to see the Decider’s still the straight-talkin’, shootin’-from-the-hip cowboy he always was.
Later in the article, he explains how his administration’s war losses divided by mass-casualty domestic attacks minus stock market and job losses times the square root of his vacation days — is slightly lower average than the last 13 administrations, excluding leap years.

The Chimp speaks. Not well, but the miracle is the speaking at all.
Dubya’s book claims he was a French liberal democrat.
History will not be kind to the Bush presidency, no matter how hard he spins it.
Then again, history won’t be all that kind to the Obama presidency, either.
1.4 million Iraqis killed and $6 trillon spent in his crusade to promote democracy.
I am your brother’s sister-in-law’s cousin’s boyfriend’s former roommate.
What does that make us?
Absolutely nothing!

Thanks for the laugh, BT! Goodness knows I need one!

Dubya: “You must be confusulated, I never left Payree.”
Gee I guess all that money he gave the Rich and two unfunded wars added nothing to the deficit! He must be using that “New” math( which is useless) to figure it out. He is still a pathetic liar. I wonder who has their hand up his A** controlling him. But he really should get a better ventriloquist to do his speaking!
Well we knew math wasn’t his strong suit. Now we know he can’t even spell math.
The most offensive part of his little GDP rant, for me, is that the GDP numbers he quotes may in fact be based on bullshit mark to market accounting fraud on a massive scale.
Huzzah!
And speaking of The Decider’s great literary tome…
To put things in perspective, the blood shed in Iraq alone is enough to inundate his 1583 acre ranch in Crawford, Texas to a depth of 43 inches.
Anyone is welcome to check my math.
Move over Doris Kearns Goodwin. There is a new plagiarist on the block.
Shit I would like to see that theorem all worked put. Do you use and average for how much blood is in a human or do ya wing it?? I mean no two bodies have the same amount and maybe if ya press it all out you get more??? But 43 inches???? Thats a lot of bloodwurst!
“Instead, Crown got a mash-up of worn-out anecdotes from previously published memoirs written by his subordinates, from which Bush lifts quotes word for word, passing them off as his own recollections. He took equal license in lifting from nonfiction books about his presidency or newspaper or magazine articles from the time. Far from shedding light on how the president approached the crucial “decision points” of his presidency, the clip job illuminates something shallower and less surprising about Bush’s character: He’s too lazy to write his own memoir.”
Well, he probably used the same technique that had served him so well at Yale and Harvard Business School: Plagiarism and getting others to do his work for him. Still the arrogant frat rat, right Chimpy?
He’s from Texas. Enron style accounting (off the books) must be the custom in Texas.
Bush lifting passages? He’s too lazy to even do that much work. Blame his ghost writer(s) but don’t blame him.
Well, it is working out. He has a better pension than most of us.
Oh you meant, THAT budget, the one in the blue dress. Well, still, never. Including also whatever the meaning of the word IS is, in French.
Great headline, BT.
And the presidency.
Brain damage, early on.
The average blood volume is 10 pints. 1583 acres is 6.4 square km. Work it out.
This is same an Nancy Pelosi’s similar BS. Debt goes up by $5 trillion since she was Speaker of the House, but she has nothing to do with it.
Didn’t pass the budgets. Didn’t have any banking committees overseeing the banks. Didn’t have anything to do with anything.
OK, except flying private jet.
1.4 million spirits separated from their bodies also represents a lot of traffic from here to the netherworld that The Decider was responsible for.
Hopefully so…but I am not hopeful. After all, history remembers Harry Truman fondly, who suffered from many of the same character flaws as Bush-shallow, incurious, with no patience for subtlety and nuance and no interest in improving his marginal comprehension of complex issues. Of course, Truman desegragated the armed forces; one must give him credit for that-but otherwise, they do have a lot in common, but in all the bad ways. Hopefully, Bush will be remembered more accurately.
:)
Dubya “I don’t recallect writing memoirs while I was in Marsell.”
Yes there are some similarities between Truman and Bush. styles. Both had a lot of hat. But Truman had something in his hat.
Stephen Colbert reviews da book:

p.s.: Could someone explain to me in short sentences using words of one syllable how to embed the link in the text? Does that little link thingie on the upper right have something to do with it?
We also have Truman to thank (/s) for the creation of the CIA.
Dubya: “…Mar – Sell… where Lance rode his fuckin’ bike, Damn it….”
You have very nicely responded to Christine O’Donnell’s question of the reality of neo-Darwinian evolution.
While we don’t quite have a fully evolved homo spiens sapiens, we do have a primate more advanced than a chimpanzee-it almost talks- who was elected President of the United States.
You see Christine, George Bush is a perfect example of evolution in action.
sweet jesus in a remainder bin
Big Dog out heaping praise on the Chimpster’s tome – “well written and interesting from start to finish”
Oh he IS responsible and should be prosecuted for those War Crimes Against Humanity. I see now that Spanish will be using Chimpy’s water-boarding statements as further evidence to get an indictment for his crimes…
Yep. CIA, NSA, NSC, confrontation instead of co-existence, a half-century of unnecessary cold war, the arms race, the H-bomb…the list of Truman mistakes is long, but never long enough to get past his shallow, hard-headed insistence that it was all wonderful-although he did once refer to the CIA as the “American Gestapo”, having ignored just that prediction when he was setting it up. Any mistakes were obviously those of other people, again, much like Bush.
Chimpie is a CRYBABY and a PLAGIARIST.
Yup. Type the word you want to use to link with, High lite it and click on the last icon on the right, it will open a dialog box and in there type the URL or just copy it from the web page you are linking from close and there you have it once you submit your comment…
David Dayen has a fresh cross-post available: Let Me Welcome Matt Taibbi to the Foreclosure Fraud Crisis
I read that with disgust. I guess his ties to senior Chimp are swaying his review. I wonder how he now feels abut it now that it seems to be that Chimpy lifted passages: George Bush Book ‘Decision Points’ Lifted Passages From Advisers’ Books .
there’s a remote chance he was attempting to remind people he wrote “a real book” that clobbered this one in sales
I guess W couldn’t remember that old saying: “‘Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”
I was liking the W non-story much better when he was quietly hanging out at his Dallas compound; one day this week we will have the sad ground breaking for his l’ry on the SMU campus. Travesty.
Srsly, it can all be summed up by the famous quote, which goes so well with the photo, above:
“WHAT? Me worry???”
This is actually brilliant snark. It’s well written because it was written by a professional instead of Bush, and interesting because it mixes fact and fiction with an eye to maximum effect. Big Dog, doubtlessly, knows that, and is pointing it out. Hilarious.
The Bush memoir I want to read is the one where he dictates off the top of his head into a tape recorder and has it transcribed, verbatim, Hunter Thompson-style. Now, THAT would be funny.
Truman re-org’d intel making the war-time intel office name “CIA” – he did not create the CIA. The Dulles brothers were the rulers of our secret government pre-Truman and after Truman.
As to deficit creation – please note the official 12/31 numbers (note also that they show a year of Clinton decreasing the debt – a fact hidden by Bush by taking all 12/31/ numbers off the front page and showing only end of fiscal year 9/30 numbers – indeed the Obama crowd still tries to hide this fact by not restoring a 12/31 summary – you have to dig through monthly reports that are online. Amazing how afraid of Clinton some Obama folks are. Meanwhile it is hard to see a year when Bush was decreasing the annual deficit – he was pretty constant at a half billion deficit each year which only blew up as the economy tanked in his last 2 years.

One wonders why our media folks never do the simple research to bring the above to the attention of the public. Perhaps they have to be fed the numbers and they reject anything but 9/30 data preferred by the GOP – and Obama.
Figures don’t lie so liars figure.
Except they never figure on the people with the magnifying glasses.
IMO, Clinton was attempting “truth” with “tact”. I wish progressives and others interested in supporting the Rule of Law, and those that believe the worst crime a president can commit is to lead us to war under false pretenses, would never, ever, post a pic of bush. It may be a minor way to ostracize him, but it would at least be better than nothing.
I agree….to “honor” him in any way is obscene.
Excellent idea.
Lawrence O’Donnell remembered when Bush once said the true history of his administration would not emerge for 50 years (not surprising, given how everything was obscured by extraordinary secrecy). So he said we have a choice– wait for the truth or buy Bush’s book. I think I’ll wait.
Agree… I’ll wait and not really bother to find out “the truth” from some other source. I already know what’s true, and what’s a figment of overheated conservative imaginations, including W’s. They all lie; it’s a feature, not a glitch.
That’s very clever. How do you do it?
Mr. Torture/ Murder/ Treason sure is collegial now, isn’t he?
FAIR is panning the Lauer interview with W….Does anyone know if Jenna is still employed with the Today Show? Maybe she had a short run…don’t know.
