President Barack Obama’s top adviser suggested to The Huffington Post late Wednesday that the administration is ready to accept an across-the-board continuation of steep Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest taxpayers.
And guess who else they are waiting on?
Also dealing “with the world as we find it,” Axelrod declined repeatedly to comment on any of the controversial debt-reduction measures suggested by the chairs of the president’s own commission — even those, such as raising the Social Security retirement age, that go against Obama campaign pledges and strike at the heart of Democratic constituencies.
He said that the White House would wait until the commission made its final recommendations on Dec. 1 before adding, “the president’s commitments haven’t changed.”
The whole point of a commitment, is to be, y’know, committed about it.
“The World as we find it”. Inspiring.
Not even decent cat food, just dry crap from an Aldi.

Back to the discussion me and fuckno and a few others have occasionally. How much longer before the country blows up? You are hurtling into fascism and totalitarianism. Election in 2012? If you’re lucky. And it will be the last for many years. How? Government of “national unity” (i.e. united plutocrats and oligarchs vs. the serfs) is a distinct possibility. Deals being worked out right now? Reasons given? Oil price crisis, essential commodities shortage, “massive” threat of domestic/international terrorism, general war.
It is so much bigger than just social security now. You must see this, surely?
Axelrod’s “world” must be a truly beautiful place, free from want or need. But out here in the real “world” many millions of people are hungry, homeless, and living in very real despair.
How dare these silver spoon fed bastards gut the programs that benefit those less fortunate than the DC bureaucrats.
I get my catfood from the local dented can store. We will be fighting in the aisles over the last can.
We need a new Threat Level graph for America, so that Americans can be aware of the threat our nation faces, but this one should have the heading:
Republican Threat to American Freedom and the U.S. Constitution.
Then a full list can be compiled showing how dangerous all the Republicans, especially of the Tea Party kind, are to every man, woman and child in America.
Most dangerous Republicans (to name just a few);
Scamuel Alito saying it’s not important that he’s attending an arch-conservative partisan shindig. With his fellow arch-conservative Republican pals on the U.S. Supreme Court (especially after Citizens United) representing as much a threat, if not more when working in tandem with Scamuel Alito.
Bill O’Reilly calling for the beheading of a reporter, and the next day calling for him to be beaten up.
A “Christian” pastor putting up ‘kill the doctors” posters in North Carolina.
To put it simply, I haven’t seen this intense a level of conservative and Republican insanity and hate since the 1960s, such concentrated hatred for everything liberal about our liberal democracy, that every American citizens’ life is in danger, which will probably make the killings by right-winger Timothy McVeigh in 1995 look tame in comparison, as well as the killings by right-wing religious nuts on 9/11.
Remember the 1960s? Lynchings and murders of civil rights activists. Assassinations of JFK, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
The new graph “Republican Threat to American Freedom and the U.S. Constitution” is blinking RED constantly right now. (Hmmm, maybe this is why Red States are RED States).
Going backwards America?
Many Democrats are aiding and abetting the GOP.
Why do I feel the real decisions have already been made at a secret meeting somewhere?
Wounded Nation
I am willing to start calling obama as bad as bush if he extends the tax cuts for the wealthy and “adjusts” social security down
this is the world obama helped create, he was told bush’s economic strategy caused the problem, he ran against it
mccain could have NEVER gotten away with the crap obama is getting away with, AND the democrats would have kept their majority’s if mccain won
Here’s the deal, folks. Aldi doesn’t sell dry cat food, but Shep “Complete Nutrition” Dry “Dog Food” is going for $040/lb. Just add water, bile and misery, and you can sustain life, if you want it on those terms. Stock up now.
Not even, “You know, folks, Reaganomics is killing this country — we’ll have to face that eventually”. Just, “We have to deal with the world as we find it.” Obama’s the best thing to happen to Republicans since Reagan.
Elections mean something different then we experienced last week.
Hand counted paper ballots are the least corruptible system for voting and republican diebold machines are the most corruptible.
They gave us obama and denied us the filibuster proof Senate majority that was elected with obama.
Elections? What elections?
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Kristof today. Ms. Collins will explain “What Everything Means.” She says pop-culture parallels to the midterm elections and America’s past history are more prevalent than you might think. Mr. Kristof, in “A Girl, A School and Hope,” says there is finally a ray of hope for Pakistan. The middle class is stirring, and a girl named Zahida is able to get a great education.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apple cranberry muffins this morning. I wonder if dry cat food is any good… Maybe with maple syrup? If the Catfood Commission has its way I guess I’ll be finding out. Have a great day.
Obama is a complete disaster. He is the ultimate weakling. He is so weak that it seems to me the Repubs are completely in charge of the WH.
manymost democrats ARE the gopwe have been infiltrated and it’s gotten all the way to the very top
I consider obama the same exact man as justice uncle thomas
not so sure he is a weakling, not so sure this isn’t the plan
before the election I had said we might be better off with mccain since obama we knew as a corporatist, we wouldn’t be able to stop obama we would be able to stop mccain
it might be part of the plan
you know, there was an advertising campaign a few months ago;
“miss bush yet”
yes, with a democratic majority bush in office would be better then obama
Welcome to my world. I’ve always said it takes a democrat in the white house to really screw the peoples. There are plenty of poor folk that support giving everything to the rich. They are at peace with god.
Not even Bush said he could go around assassinating citizens due to his royal decree. The Democratic threat level is blinking RED just as much if not more. You’re on a thread about Obama cutting Social Security, yet you stay completely silent on that as if it isn’t a threat at all.
Good morning all.
Who coulda anticipated.
It coulda been worse. The CC coulda recommended a flat tax.
Morning pups,
Apple, raisin, walnut, buttermilk p-cakes this morning, while we can still afford them.
And we get the “nobody else is agreeing with the CC co-chairs,” from others on the CC to cover their butts before the cat food actually hits our bowls.
One thing you can be absolutely sure of though is that it will get worse. Don’t you worry.
Aha. A new model of how these commishes work!
Instead of shock doctrine, which means coming out with a shocking event or policy & then retreating somewhat to a policy that is still completely dire, but much worse than people would have accepted without the shock, we now have a shock doctrine, where the first shock is followed by one after another of more shocks, resulting in a policy that is even worse than the initial one.
I found what I think is a perfect Thomas Paine quote for this President: “Moderation in temper is always a virtue, but moderation in principle is always a vice.” I don’t mind his cool temperament, but his “moderation” (also known as lack of)in terms of principle is beyond appalling.
The democrats lost badly in the election due to two primary reasons…1) Global Warming 2) George Bush
DAMNIT!!! Just think how perfect the world would be if the two did not exist!
In the ’92 primaries, Jerry Brown’s campaign proposed a flat tax at a rate of 15-20% with a single exemption: 100% of your primary housing expense up to $2500. His point was that the majority of Americans actually shoulder a relatively higher burden under our current ‘progressive’ tax scheme due to the complexity. I liked the idea if only because of the idea of tax attorneys suddenly without marketable skills. These days I might be more sympathetic to anyone in that position, but only slightly so.
I suppose you can define a flat tax with certain exceptions that wouldn’t be too bad for regular people. However, these days you can be sure that the exceptions would favor the rich, like exemption capital gains income.
We’ve been invaded by the body snatchers. Aliens among us who look human, but aren’t. check THIS out:
Obama to Congress: Stop shooting down deficit proposals
This, while Oilbomber’s over there in Asia selling US out as fast as he can. I call India his “Walmart Rules” trip, dangling a juicy plum of a seat on the UN Security Council in front of Singh to change their laws to accommodate Walmart ( and others) and thereby ruining India’s economy too. Wonder if Singh will go for it…replacing the good work of his people’s heart’s, minds and hands for Chinese junk from Walmart. (and the US loses 3,000,000,000 more jobs)
Then South Korea, where, if the rumors are true, he will make a free trade agreement that will make NAFTA look like bread pudding.
Meanwhile, Bush runs around “rehabilitating” himself in the eyes of the terminally stupid…and Holder lets him.
And the American sheep just don’t want to be bothered as long as THEY have a job.
We’re going to be seeing Obama in all his vicious glory in the next two years, because that’s all the time he has to put the blocks in place for the incoming Attila.
Hope everyone has learned what grows on whatever land they have. I suggest community gardens.
Earlier criticism of the CC from the righties in June, moaning about the taxpayer cost for the CC, Deficit Commission out of Money.
The WaPo has another take on who’s paying the salaries for the commission members.
Sorry to see that some of these people might be added to the jobless roles so soon, but I doubt they will be dining with the rest of us.
Well, color me unsurprised.
couldn’t resist —
how ’bout a maple-balsamic reduction, for finicky kitties having a hard time adjusting to not-so-gourmet fare….”got enny gravy?” will be the new ‘what’s for dinnner’…..
fat cat feasters won’t see a change in their fare, everyone else, a new generation of french-fried meats and do-it-yourself sauciers to make it palatable…leading to ‘gloss-coating’ becoming an even more widely used multi-purpose word.
“Perfect gravy Pearl, looks good”.
Yeahah America, eat what’s put on your plate and dig in. There’s starving children in, oh wait…….
what’s wrong with this picture?
Maybe the wrong one is being illustrated.
Where I live, there are already hungry people – still trusting the wrong people to represent their interests.
: )
http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/nadia-g/filet-mignon-drizzle-with-a-maple-balsamic-reduction-served-with-sweet-roasted-cherry-tomatoes-and-parmesan-potato-croquettes-recipe/index.html
p.s. attaturk – did you know Trader Joe’s is the parent company for Aldi? Not everything there is ‘bottom shelf’ as implied…a stripped-down’no middleman’ worker structure lowers overhead costs – few employees in every store, and no union.
The most disgraceful performance EVER by any President.
He, and his Dem Ops, lose the elections, and he retreats to Asia, THE foremost region responsible for exporting American jobs, leaving Axelrod to act as his surrogate in announcing that they’ll accept the extension of the Bush tax cuts. Oh, and the Cat Food Commission rolls on.
Pathetic!
I would agree with you but after watching Obama start out the stimulus and health insurance profit bills, I believe that instead of saying the first proposal is too “shocking” that he will negotiate all wiggle room from the very beginning and say that we have no choice, it’s for the good of our progeny, it’s unsustainable, etc. etc. and then sign off on a truly crappy piece of vindictive Republican billionaire wet dream bill. And then he’ll be shocked himself that people all over the country react violently and negatively.
The list of broken promises and needless compromises is too long at this point to ignore.
Serfs will not have the right to own land or property. They will only be allowed to work on the land of their liege as required in exchange for catfood. “Community gardens” will be worked to pay the taxes imposed by the local plutocrat. The local plutocrat will have sole power to decide the fate of any of his serfs at any time.
Please come back Obama, we promise not to be mean to you.
Don’t think that I have that color. ;-)
I have a few ‘doesn’t make sense’ questions about the CC co-chairs- among them –
something this big being thrown prematurely onto the table? What’s the chip Obama’s administration is leveraging from the other side that we don’t know yet?
And after seeing a few of the commission members on tv, something is not being pointed out that is in the commission report. They’re doing the old lady ‘point point’ but not saying what they’re pointing to…threw raw meat into a pack of pit bulls and none of them are attacking it?
Hunh?
Head shake.
Dunno, something else in there, cornerstone/piece of puzzle missing in my opinion.
That’s what I’m wondering…
By O leveraging, I mean, what is being negotiated that it took something this large to usurp it…what’s in the other hand?
Nice news cycle grab while he’s out of the country, nice news cycle grab during lame duck session, why would they want this now?
Haven’t heard anything yet that helps it make sense to me.
These people are sick, and I have to say, the Obama lovin primary voters who accepted his framing as social security in “crisis” and pretended it was no big deal that he honestly believed that, this is what these people have wrought. Thanks a bunch.
You are correct… The biggest one is Bushbama!!!
YES WE CAN CAN THE OBAMEH PU$ILLANIMOU$ PU$$YFOODER$!
Negotiate down.
Unlike anything for the people, in which Obama always throws away his highest card, this time he STARTS with his highest card…so it won’t feel so bad being screwed so hard.
I can’t believe the wimps that make up the Obama administration. As much as I can’t stand Republicans, they at least know how to grab onto the reigns of power when they have them. Those jerks bragged about creating new realities whereas the Obama snivelers are totally helpless when they’re sitting in the driver’s seat. Can we order a round of spine transplants for the occupants at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
Pathetic.
- Tom
Were going to need to primary this prick.
Part of me is thinking that this was staged for O to be able to say to economic tour countries and G countries’ gathering for ‘talks’ – ‘we got nuthin’- our hands are full, see? we have no resources, look how hard we’re trying, gee, what a mess we’re in’ – And keep in mind that France just raised SS eligibility age…and got away with it over protests…
Dunno, something got chucked over the back fence…and I’m wonderin’ what it is…
But haven’t you heard? Outsourcing to India creates US jobs according to King Obama.
A modest proposal: Eat the Rich.
Sadly, not enough for everybody to have some.
I”l be nice: Kent Conrad has just endorsed the whole package
Good news!
Obama Fails To Broker Trade Deal With South Korea
Now let’s see if Singh falls for that juicy worm. If he doesn’t, we may stand a chance.
Obama Fails – that just about sums up his Presidency
If someone knows how to do it, start the primary process by circulating an internet petition demanding Obama’s resignation for defrauding the electorate into believing he was going to bring change and instead doing his best to please the Repubs.
“The World as we find it.” If The One had run on this in the Democratic primaries, he would have been lucky to have come in third in Iowa. He’s making Bill Clinton look like Paul Wellstone by comparison.
aha. one step closer.
weakening the dollar.
dangerous.
We’re floating checks while driving a bmw…but it’s used, so, really, that proves that we’re really broke…
Singh already has what he wants from us, no way would corps allow it to be used to bargain – I keep wondering what we were trying to get from Him…or smooth over/lay the ground work for someone else…
but I still think there is a domestic ‘fluff’ looktheotherway play going on…
and it must be a biggie to allow/justify the timing of the release of HIS OWN commission’s report
: )
Man, can Obama sour a deal or what?
Can’t pull in the Olympics. Can’t get results at the Global Warming Summit. Can’t get Investment Bankes to show up in his office when it rains! Can’t broker trade deals with Korea!
Well, we’ll always have the Beer Summit!
Just so this issue is crystal clear… Social Security is a retirement trust fund for the poor. The wealthy would be upset if we went after their retirement accounts to pay off the national debt. Yet they have the nerve to go after Social Security. Why? Because it was all invested in Treasury Notes and they don’t want to bear the costs when they come due.
China invests in the same type of financial instrument. If the US defaulted on those Treasury notes, it could start a war with the Chinese. But, defaulting on the money which was invested for the poor’s retirement, well, we folks can be controlled and will be unlikely to fight back. Now-a-days the President can start a war without Congressional approval. Presidents use the money for wars which serve corporate interests. The rich should bear the cost of paying it back through higher taxes.
Only the rich benefit from the wars we fight. Now, they want the poor to not only fight and die in them, but also to pay for the wars. It is that simple.
