his Crossroads GPS group and other conservative organizations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have a right to spend unlimited amounts of money on this year’s elections without disclosing their donors.
Of course, this being Rove it’s a different tune than he has sung before, like six years ago:
“I’m against all the 527 ads and activities,” referring to a tax designation of some outside political groups, including his own American Crossroads. “I don’t think they’re fair. I don’t think it’s appropriate. They’re misusing the law. They all ought to stop,”
Rove then went on to say that in 2010,
“I wish we had a different system,”
Oh really, you do huh?
Faced with united Republican opposition, the Senate again failed to advance a proposal Thursday that would have required corporations to more fully disclose political donations…
In the Senate, the final vote was 59 to 39, short of the 60 votes required. All Democrats voted to support the bill; two Republicans did not vote.
All those Republicans knew a certain porcine operative was out there raising hundreds of millions from billionaires – and why make him squeal?

Roberts Court: “If you want to feel safe, buy yer own dam gun.”
Roberts Court: “If you want to feel represented, buy yer own dam Congress.”
We won’t even recognize the country our parents and grandparents built when they’re done.
How discomfiting to have Karl return to the political scene like a slippery eel.
Good morning, pups. It’s Monday, so it’s The Pasty Little Putz and Krugman. The Pasty Little Putz addresses “The Great Bailout Backlash,” and says our first post-crisis election has been defined by voters’ anger over the rescue of Wall Street — and that’s healthy. He also came out four square in favor of waterboarding Khalid Shaikh (sic) Mohammed… Prof. Krugman, in “Falling Into the Chasm,” says the real story of this election is that of an economic policy that was inadequate to the task.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. The thought of Karl Rove has upset my inward arrangements, so I’m going to get another cup of tea and find the brain bleach. Have a great day.
In this part of the world we have Lamprey eelsknown equally as well for their mouth as for their slipperiness. Very much a rovian eel.
I fear the edit system is bolixed in the new fangled fdl.
Maybe the putz would agree with [edited by moderator] the banksters in the search for the truth about the financial frauds?
[Mod note: Please do not suggest or advocate violence. Thank you.]
attaturk, because of that decision the country as we knew it will never be returned.
the middle class will disapear, kids will no longer go to college and a man and women will work till the day they die
social security will be privitized, the air will be dumped with cancer
our kids are in tons of trouble
checking edit
ok
the edit feature is broken, the time out is less then a second, is this known yet?
ah, you beat me to it, I’m sure they will fix that once they find out
it’s just the time out, needs to be reset
It would be irresponsible not to speculate on the assurances many contributors received that their identities would never be revealed. Boycotts are a very real concern as a backlash, and many donors were probably assured the donations would be confidential and harmless to future sales. With vast sums of money banked and the disclose act looming on the horizon, a few phone calls to key republicans guaranteed its failure. Just my reading of the teabag trail.
Yeah, the techies are aware.
Karl’s reversal on the issue would make a good election commercial then just add the name of any GOPer and how much cash they get from companies that outsource jobs.
Republicans. Adamantly taking all sides of every issue since Reagan. With conviction.
If the GOP contributors names are hidden then just assume all the hidden cash comes from companies that outsource jobs if the GOP does not have to disclose donors then we can assume anything we want until they disclose their donors.
Democrats are too busy punching hippies to run against republicans. What are you, some sort of copulating mental deficient? You should be drug tested. Oh, and vote Dem.
/s
If Karl or any other GOP group gives any GOPer money from hidden donors we accuse the GOP candidate of getting money from Companies that want to outsource jobs, we say they are getting money from the Klan, Pedophile priests, Global warming deniers etc.
If the GOP cries fowl we say prove it release your donor list.
That was a punch? Obama/Rahm/the WH Press secretary wished they could punch like a girl.:)
We tie the GOP’s secret donors to Black helicopters, Blackwater, secret CIA torture prisons, to Afghan Heroin flooding America, to Florida Oxy pain mills, to Meth makers who’s key ingredient could be banned but the drug makers don’t want it banned.
I have been amazed at the calls coming in to c-span lately. How many people truly see Obama and the Dems as having been to weak. I think this is nothing to do with people’s opinions. I really think that there is a complete disconnect between what the American people really want and what we are going to get. I no longer trust the election system. It’s seems like there are 2 types of callers on cspan. Teaparty crazies and then the people fed up with a system that has been gamed against them.
argh…morning “too weak”. “has nothing”
Appropos of nothing: I saw this in the paper this morning. Two politically opposed groups arguing over a school re-districting plan and the stalemate that developed. I think it is indicative of how folks feel about the Obama Administration and Congress too, not merely local issues:
But Hill and Sutton insist that school board elections next year had nothing to do with the proposal to go more slowly.
“It’s not an attempt to stalemate but to move forward,” Sutton said. “It will be a slow and deliberate pace.”
Sutton said the new approach will allow board members to build consensus.
“The majority that you will see emerging is what people expect to see from leadership,” Sutton said. “Leadership is … listening to others, being respectful of others, being inclusive.”
Malone disagreed.
“Consensus is the lack of leadership,” he said. “We need leadership, not consensus. Consensus means drawing up a plan that doesn’t offend anyone and that usually results in a bad plan.”
Yes, it’s all over… we’re DOOMED!!!
Sour grapes, pure and simple. As for Rove, as reprehensible as you say he is, just remember, he engineered W to get elected President twice – TWICE.
He had alot of help from the Supremes.iirc.
WE’RE in tons of trouble. The way I see it the kids are already practically lost…and they’ll be so propagandized and beaten down, they won’t even remember that “once upon a time”.
Heck the 30 somehtings are there already.
Great post.
More, please!
In my dreams, even George Will reads it… !
I for one choose to assume all of these secret donations originate with NAMBLA.
Dreeeaaammm on: KKKarl Rove “got” W “elected” twice through vote rigging, voter fraud, and, oh the first time, by a bloodless coup perpetrated on the USA by the Supreme Court. Yeah, that’s how KKKarl Rove “operated” it. If you enjoy that kind of sham “election,” so be it. I don’t.
I mentioned it yesterday, and nothing.
In no way am I defending the GOP about anything, but it’s pretty ironic
to watch Obama, the Dems, or any US politician bitching how rotten it is when sources of campaign funds remain undisclosed.
Horrors! It’s corrupting our “free” and “fair” elections. hahahaha!
News flash. The US has been doing this shit all over the world for decades. Venezuela and Iran must be laughing their asses off at these phoney hypocrites.
No kidding. Not to mention Australia and Chile, to name but a very few more countries where we’ve perpetrated coups – bloodless or not – in order for our Oligarchs to flex their muscles, have their way and ensure that their vaunted private sector companies dominate and control in the name of all those lying b.s. platitudes: “truth, justice, mom, apple pie, democracy, freedumb”… you name it.
As the bell tolls for thee & thou, so now shall it toll for serfs in the USA. get used to it.
