About Firedoglake
Suz!
An Alice fan from back in the very old days here.
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Alice Pooper!! Drive by Friday hello pups….nite all
hey nahant — go giants!!! g’nite
Suze! Pups!
Everything got planted, tomorrow it starts raining. whew. yard is looking good!
Swell. Finally got some precip, needed it very badly.
You?
hey ndfg — ya timed it well :) now ya doing tonight?
big storm coming in tomorrow night…. winds forecast gusts of 75 on the coast tomorrow night into sun morning
a bit stiff ‘n sore … was toting the 8-ft stepladder around the house caulking windows as well as digging sod, planting bulbs, making a “bog,” etc. You’d think i’d be in better shape with all that kinda work. Hah. When i go to bed, the heating pad is going with for my back.
YEOW! that is some wind.
yikes.. when i overdo, i find a good, long, hot soak in a tub helps loosen up the back enough that i don’t wake up stiff in the morning.
Nice choice. Wish Electric Mayhem would have had more camera time though.
Heard from interview from 4 weeks ago – they made offer to other candidate, but if it isn’t accepted they’re interested in me still.
Pinged HR from interview 2 weeks ago, let them know I’ve got another on site scheduled, but that’s only because I haven’t accepted an offer and I like the work I’d be doing. Noticed on their jobs site a listing for job with same group at a higher level… and they were concerned that they couldn’t hire me at a senior level, so that seems promising.
hey wmd — thanks. good to get some feedback that is sorta indicative of maybe a job offer with ‘ifs’. how ya doing tonight?
yup… been battening down my hatches and when the hired girls come tomorrow, they are gonna move the heavy pots on the deck
I’m going to try and get to sleep early tonight. Have had some insomnia from financial stuff.
Trouble sleeping probably did some good, got me thinking about whether I want to sell property in Indiana… possibly get loan from someone (son, family) with it as collateral to keep me in house here. Then sell when son is finished with school.
I’d have no fall back position then. But most people don’t.
(((wmd))) i hope your insomnia improves
Hi pups. Dang, NDFG, you’re my heroine! (learned that ending e from Sooz!)
Here’s something fun for the jukebox.
you and me
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
Evening Suz and all. wmd, I used to lose sleep over money. I eventually learned that losing sleep doesn’t change anything, and I gave up insomnia on that issue. Now when I can’t sleep, I don’t know why. . .
muppet style
A bit of whiskey should do the trick.
hey bg — how ya doing tonight? when i can’t sleep, i just get outta bed and do something else until i’m tired.
love love love being retired. i used to battle insomnia when i worked and had an ongoing dialog with the alarm clock ‘if i go to sleep now, i’ll get 5 4 hours sleep’ then 3… i hated those nights
Hiya Pups. LS here. Waving.
That’s a big storm for the Tillamook area.
Here it is just slowly getting a bit chillier every day. right now: 35 F, blowing 15 to 20. Ms ET getting ready to go out to the Kuskokwim Delta again next week..
I slept, woke up, slept… 4 hours sleep initial, then 45 minutes awake, hour sleep. Typical unconscious processing needing conscious focus pattern. financial stuff has me anxious, and the dreams while I was unconscious reflected that.
or some dear old granddad
hey ls — how the hell you been! long time no see your fonts
Alice looks like my new boss. The old one was promoted (her EVIL was better then anyones elses.)
…and they are all republicans….
hey et — sure is starting off the season with a bang :) how was your day today?
heh, well, next week they’re forecasting rain/snow mix for two days after 4 days of just rain … i’ll have months of sitting on my lazy tooshie waiting for snow to melt before the next gardening season starts. Well, except for the heavy exertion of lifting seed catalogs and making lists for next years garden. ET has inspired me, i really want to try potato boxes next year.
That’s south of Nome?
hey applepie — how ya doing tonight? and double ugg — evil republicans *shrudder*
I would sleep with the TV on, all night news. I once made a piece called “Insomnia, TV for Dreams.” My dreams would be all full of half news and half sub-conscious. It was weird.
Partly sunny today. Still warm and clear. It’s really wonderful weather and everything is so clean!
clouds are beautiful in LA tonight
I read. Start to lose consciousness, turn out light, wake back up, read some more.
Eventually I get to where I pay attention to what my subconscious wants me to process.
OK. I’m looking into applying for grants for three pieces of music I’m developing, and trying to keep up on the antics of Joe the Teabagger.
newdealfarmgirl,
The potato boxes weren’t as productive as I had hoped. There were scads of huge potatoes at the bottom, but virtually none more than a third of the way up. Still, far more potatoes than would have naturally grown in a 32 inch by 32 inch space of the garden.
i do the same thing — northwest cable news… i can see the time in the lower left corner without raising my head from the pillow *and* it’s a great ‘white noise’ that i can tune out
reading is good.
Waving back!
It is. She mentors first and second year teachers in small village schools. She’s always loved teaching, but she especially loves this job.
sweet.
Time for me to go to bed. Pleasant dreams.
good night all.
his freefall has really been something to watch et — something new each day that just screams ‘don’t vote for this fool’.
i’ve been reading about them online as well as at your blog … i think it’s worth a try because the more i can cram in to my .21 acre lot the better.
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Well, I guess I got pretty ticked off when Barry named Rahm, etc…so I quit looking at anything political after the admin got going. Then earlier this year I got really sick and was in the hospital and then a physical rehab for about 3 months. I’m very lucky because I ended up with stage IV kidney failure for two months and then suddenly my kidneys returned to normal. It was a miracle. I had some other issues, including problems with my liver and I had fallen and badly injured my feet and my back. I’m doing super well now, but I’ve had to relearn to walk. Today was the first day I was able to walk unassisted by either people or wheelchair or walker out onto the property where I live and visited my overgrown garden. I can’t wait to get in there and weed the darn thing.
g’nite wmd
I’m going through a flashback! Voting is important I guess…
Beautiful sunny day, thanks Suz. I feel the urge to get my caulking gun, it’s getting chilly now.
I slept with the news on after 9/11.
OH NOOOOOO i’m so sorry to hear you were ill hon
and so glad you are doing better — learning to walk again.. yikes
LS??? THE LS? Girl, I have been wondering about you!
I spent my few days at home taking down swamp coolers. Or putting them up for the winter, whatever. 21 this week, and about half-way done.
Well, I can relate to the catalog stuff. But the physical labor is what I so admire! I do it occasionally, then regret it! Walking is my thing. Sure got a work out in Italy with all of the steps you have to take to get anywhere.
*heh* Dayam, Suz…! Getting ahead on Halloween, eh…? Alice Cooper…?
School’s out forever…! ;-)
i’m pretty happy with the cast of characters i had to vote on up here in or-05 — twas a pleasure to be voting for instead of choosing the lesser of two evils as i had to do in ca.
Sounds cool.
I’m doing great now really. It is pretty strange to not be able to get up out of a chair or into a chair or to stand up. Physical therapy people explain how to do something you’ve been doing all your life…weird. Then, if you are lucky, one day you just do it. I was terrified of falling for months. I work out a lot now and it really, really hurts for a couple of days, but it works. My tennis champion friend told me to try a cold shower after working out and after a warm shower to avoid post workout pain, and it actually helped. Apparently, the pros get thrown into ice baths during tournaments.
I’m grateful and lucky to be alive and kicking. What a crazy trip.
It’s me. How the hell are you??
Btw, Missie… I’ve got a new blog, ya know…! ;-)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? no more teacher’s dirty looks
Hey Suz and pups! Dropping in for just a few after a fun evening out with my sisters. Hope everyone is well.
LS!!! Don’t know if you’ll remember me, but we used to chat about Liverpool sometimes here. So sorry you’ve had a rough road this year, but very happy to hear that you’re recovering well.
I did calls this week for my governor and congress candidates. I met a woman from CA who has just moved to NM who said she just hates Boxer, but she will vote for her b/c of Fiorina.
It’s a mess here, I don’t know what will happen, but my 2 candidates that I have eked out a few hours for are good, and what is against them is really, really bad.
Oh man, Isis. So glad to hear you’re getting well. I was so worried about you. How’s WangDangDoodle? Any idea? I’ve missed you so much!
I left ya a message or two over at EW’s, M’dear…! ;-)
Oh yes OR…just looking a cheap home and lot across the river in Camas WA (I’m thinking early retirement because teaching has become so oppressive)
hey ll — how’s va tonight?
OMG! {{{ lsls }}} what a tough few months! good news that you could walk unassisted to your garden. I hope the weeding and tending garden helps heal you (i know it does me).
Of course I remember you!! I’m glad you showed up so I can say hiya back at you!
camas is pretty — have a friend who lives on the camas/washougal border….
Thanks. Do you still luv Rachael?? hahaha
It’s winter what in dawg’s names are ya plantin NDFG?
N howdy, to you, and Suz, and Pups!
actually, i find the digging & lifting & toting a lot easier than walking. Good for you for being a walker!
Nice and chilly, just the way I like it — 38 now according to my weatherbug widget. Smelled wood smoke in the air tonight while we were out :-)
*big grin and a wave and a howdy back at you* :-)
sasquatch country too
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
whoa, I didn’t know! congrats & thanks for the link, it’s bookmarked now.
You might like these NM “attack ads.”
had a sasquatch museum in felton — about 7 miles down the hill from me when i was living in boulder creek in the santa cruz mts
LS, a song for you
I haven’t seen or heard from her since she and I met at the bar..hehehe…when that crazy woman tried to make me move out of my chair that she had left an hour before…we laughed so hard, but she lives about 50 miles away.
Aww, thank you.
Jim is good, he’s getting more versatile alla time, I had not seen that one. The other was posted a couple of days ago. Thank goodness for the internets.
Very cool. We’re away from each other more than we’ve been since I worked on tugboats in the 80s. That was before kids. This is after. She hasn’t seen nearly as much of bush Alaska as I have, so she’s excited about that. And the program is increasing teacher effectiveness and retention markedly.
I’m doing fine. Retired now. Just taking it as it comes!
Someone told me they were vegetarians…is that true (to the best of your great comprehensive knowledge on the subject)?
I saw that lineup with Bryan Sutton at one of the last fests I hit recently, ’08.
They did an all classical show based on a Chris Thile symphony like effort that was useless. All based on and inspired by his divorce . . . sigh.
Wish they had done a set of their later efforts, more grass, folk and new grass related.
These Are Some Of The FINEST Pickers On The Planet.
Thanks WMD, good to see some grass get into LLN and CERTAINLY a better take on Punch Bro’s than I saw.
i don’t have a clue — never went in the little place. my only bigfoot knowledge comes from harry and the hendersons
no winter here yet, it was a torrid 68 this afternoon *g* snow in the forecast for next week tho. What i planted yesterday & today: 1 penstemon, 1 astilbe, 10 allium bulbs, 100 crocus & muscari bulbs, and a lingonberry. The lingonberry was the most work because i decided to dig a big shallow hole in my yard and amend the soil with peat and acidifiers, a little mini-bog. And next year that’s where my back-ordered blueberry bushes will also go.
I retired early from teaching too, applepie. Sad when you have to spend as much time testing as teaching, and the time you spend teaching is for the testing.
I’d better get outta here and get some sleep…got a heavy day of lunching and shopping planned for Saturday with the sisters.
LS, really glad to see you again grrrlll! And thank you Suz, and g’night and sweet dreams to all….
Re: Willy Pete…good God. I’m wondering if there is some info in those docs that is incriminating enough to get some justice for those poor people.
g’nite ll
Very unhealthy…too bad, public ed made America great, now it is being destroyed.
Still, I have a few more months to work with the kids…each day is kind of a gift when you look at it that way.
Where’d you teach?
Thanks. Actually, when Quakergirl was leaving us, I named a rose bush after her. I thought that it had died because of the overgrowth and lack of tending all this last summer and I couldn’t see it from any window in my house. Today, I found it alive and well. It is climbing rose America.
Sorry I missed ya with this one.
Had never seen Jen Luc, Never Seen Stanley Clarke.
And this Trio played the fest we frequent twice a year.
Trio!
One of them best evahs shows in my life. ’08 I think, Fall.
Simply mind boggling musical profiency. Right there, on stage, live.
All acoustic . . . . all the hands, hearts and souls of the musicians. Galactic Stars, all three.
I been lucky in my time . . ;-)
Part Two Same Song.
Lord What Clarke Does With His Hands . . . Listen. That’s All The Bass!
I am on a Polish rock jag.

awwwww good news…. i miss quakergirl… and katymine
I am very sorry about whatever my comment was taken to mean last night on LLFDL. I truly have no idea what made you feel angry. I meant no harm, and I need to let you know that.
Oh, 100. Lots of presents for Larue!
San Diego County. 33 years. Enough! Loved teaching for the first 28 years when I was free to teach, but the last several years were worse and worse. Loved the kiddos the whole time, though. It was just sad to see kids coming into the 4th grade already hating school because of NCLB.
happy 100 larue!!!
that one big link doesn’t link dood
hey robert — how ya doing tonight?
Oh, miss Quakergirl, katymine, and lolo… Who did I miss?
I had a long week, Little Momma seems to be sleeping, so I am going to read/sleep.
Thanks for everything, as always, Suz. Nighters everyone.
Just popping in long enough to tell Larue I am sorry.
g’nite bg
what a lovely thing to do to keep Quakergirl’s memory blooming and fragrant! I’m so glad you found it alive and well.
Good for you Loo Hoo! Hope you are enjoying retirement!
The VAM stuff is decimating teachers in LA (with a complicit corporate media.)
Wow, that’s some travails you’ve faced.
Bless ya for workin thru it all and being where you are now . . .
Welcome back!
*G*
Presents for Larue!

he’s still working his way down the comment thread…
Sweet dreams.

the first of the two storms for this weekend is just arriving.. starting to sprinkle. the stronger storm arrives up here tomorrow night
Yes. And Marie at EW’s…
I am sending eeeeewwwwMeg my shovel, though I doubt she needs it.
Hello, Loo Hoo.
Well, it’s considerably kewler . . *GU*
And despite the day’s weather and wetness, I managed to spend two hours with two dear picker pals down by the River and CSUS Campus in the late afternoon before sundown. One had been away for two months in Alaska with his girlfriend a botonist/wildlife specialist sweetie.
He’s in his mid 60′s, she’s in her mid 40′s. *G*
He’s a local legend of a long teaching career in college and high school, music teaching, mentoring and just picking. And he’s taken me under his wing in a vague manner to help me with my music, as has the OTHER friend who got me into the local jam scene. Him I know from fests since ’03.
It was nice . . . just a uke, banjo and my dobro . . . cloudy, wettish, right there along the American River Bike Trail and the Guy West Bridge over the American River into CSU, Sacramento campus, where all three of us were students at one time or another.
Folks passing by on the Bike Trail, up above on The Bridge, surprised to see and hear music in this weather, grinning and giving us thumbs up.
Too kewl, made me very happy to pick and sang with those two special folks . . *G*
Here It Comes, Huh!!
*G*
Right now it’s 11:26 PST.
Hi PPD and Robert
sweet… totally worth the wet dood
Hey, Newtonusr! Did you see that our buddy LS made it back tonight???
What a great song, and from the film, too . . . used to run with Hard Day’s Night back in the day.
Very kewl tune and band . . . *G* Thanks!
show me please
start here and work your way down
she’s lsls now edit link fixed
Lingons and blue berries grow in a bog like cranberries?
I never knew that (said in his best Dan Rowan voi=ce).
I swear, I have NO clue as to the rest of your planting . . . never heard them terms!
Well, I know what bulbs are . . . sorta. Tulips and such . . .
Ya got ME cornduzlzled Farm Gal!
But it SOUNDS like it was fun and yer happy!
N that’s all that counts!
*G*
We still got maters flowering and fruiting . . . basil galore still growing, tons of it in the freezer.
68F to snow in a week?
Heh, ok . . . I’ll have to rethink my hatred for Sacto 100F summers . . *G*
*heh* In your neck of the woods… Maheannuu and I are on the same sheet of music…! ;-)
Hey!
That’s what I get for peeking in!
Bob, I don’t recall and I do respect your musings and offerings.
If I disgreed with you about something, well that’s just who I am.
If I was rude I apologize for being so.
I can be harsh and and blunt at times . . . intentionally.
But I have, and will, be the first one to say I’m sorry I was wrong when I realize it.
Other than that, how ya doin . .
Yeah, I went and fixed it . . . I think . . . . sigh.
No, I’M sorry . . . ;-)
49 and 61. She’s going by Isis now.
Sorry I’ve been on a different sheet of music lately, CT. You’ve been writing great posts on Palestinian rights. It’s getting to be the best series on that here there has been. I’ll be back helping you after the election.
Hi margot
I’m so not worthy . .
Ooooohhhhhh . . . bright and sparkly thingies!
*G*
Found it, ty
ET, did you see that our LS is back now as Isis? So very cool!
Yep.
LMBO . . . sigh, I’m so predictable . . .
hehehehe
Oh yeah . . . sigh, Katy and Persi are two that hit hard to lose . . . . and at the time I was on a trail of losin friends I picked with and both my parents over a few years . . . sigh, bless them all for me just for bein lucky to be knowin them . . . .
Yep!
i loved this photo you left on the tail end of swopa’s post, maheanuu — the royal princess is a very pretty ship
http://mah.smugmug.com/Other/An-Ocean-Apart/Every-Inch-A-Lady/1059508507_nprh7-M.jpg
LS is the gal who named the Filipino Monkey Borat. Remember the fake Iranian guys in boats supposedly trying to scare the US Navy? Twas a fun fake.
Yep.
*G*
I’d like to echo your thoughts and praise for CT . . . he’s taken ownership of the issue and helped us all be better informed in his process.
CT, that’s Hoss Work . . . . thanks.
Sweet. Butterfly egg.
Hey y’all. I’m back from Nashville. Had a great time.
{{{{CT Hoss}}}}
hey that guy — i heard you played with leeroy parnell – sweet dood!!! you still walking on cloud nine?
Suz: Oh yeah. James P was up there too, so it was double the fun. We saw the Time Jumpers at the Station Inn the night before, and I met Keb Mo at the beer ordering place. It was great fun. I only wish I was a good enough player to make it in that town. You can fling a rock and hit guitar players better than I.
There will be vid in about a month. I’ll post the best of it on YouTube when it’s available and I get it processed.
Clarence Thomas gets the treatment!!
Look forward to seeing your vid, tg!
sweet..looking forward to seeing ya playing with him dood… and wow.. you had a hella trip dood
I hope so, ET…! If the Repugs take the House we’re gonna need a full-throated effort to stave off an Iranian bombing…! 8-(
IBMA??????
leeroy
The Time Jumpers have one of the best pedal steel pickers in the history of the instrument.
Not to mention the rest of the band are legends in the business for their abilities.
I’m phookin jealous!
*G*
What do you play instrument wise and do you sing?
What’s yer preferred genre or music style?
time jumpers
Btw, TG… I’m miffed that ya didn’t even pop in when I played the ‘Burning’ clip…! 8-P
’bout time for me to head out folks. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
hope to see ya tomorrow night for cartoons
g’nite all
Oh that’s really good, thanks Suz:)
I’m a guitar player, I sing on occasion but I’m no front guy. If you listen to a combination of Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell, the Kentucky Headhunters, Paul Thorn, T Graham Brown, John Hiatt, Waylon Jennings…et al, you’ll get where I live musically.
BTW, the steel player I saw with them was Paul Franklin, THE first-call guy in Nashville. John Hughey died in 2007.
Just one from Time Jumpers . . . listen to the instruments behind the vocals . . and of course the incredible pedal steel work!
TIme Jumpers Wiki
John Hughey is the pedal steel hoss most folks don’t know if, in the biz he’s a legend up there with Bud Black.
The TIme Jumpers line up since ’98 is a Hall Of Fame of country, bluegrass, newgrass pickers and others that are just as good but never chased the Fame Rabbit . . . those who know, know their every name . .
*G*
Damn I’m jealous . . .*G*
*G*
Bless ya!
G’night Suz.
Aloha, Suz… Pleasant Dreams…! *g*
That’s no bad slice of americana life to call yer own piece of bread hoss . . .
*G*
SOme of MY favs!
“Baby’s gone and I don’t know why.
She let out this morning.
Like a rusted shot from a hallowed sky.
She left without a warning.
Sooner than the dogs could bark.
Faster than the sun rose.
Down to the banks in an old mule cart.
She crossed the muddy Shiloh.
*G*
Dang, I was tryin to recall them words to that song above, missed Suz goin sandman on us . . .
Nite Sistah . . . thanks for all ya do for all of us Pups . . .
I guess, with that, I’m outta here too . . .
Best to all Pups, and GO SF GIANTS!!
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert this morning. In “Elections: Oshkosh Shrugged” Ms. Collins says Russ Feingold may be the most independent senator, and he is in a supertough re-election race. Mr. Blow, in “Smoke and Horrors,” says the war on drugs has become focused on marijuana, is being waged primarily against minorities and is being promoted by Democratic politicians. Mr. Herbert addresses “The Way We Treat Our Troops,” and says the idea that hardly anyone is paying attention to the burden being shouldered by America’s soldiers at war is beyond appalling.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got some apple walnut muffins that are still warm from the oven. I’ve only got a little bit of work from the private client, and I should be finished with it this morning, which will leave me the rest of the weekend to play with. YAY! Have a great day.
I served in the USAF during Nam, and I approve this message.
Based on the statement that more active-duty military are Republicans (and have been during the duration of the Bush/Cheney-inflicted Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts), a statement indicating that more recent dischargees from the U.S. military have been Republican, then it follows that more Republican veterans must be present among the hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans, just as more Republicans (active duty and veterans) must be committing suicide at record-breaking rates.
In fact, based on the “exceptionalism” talking point that seems to be a favorite among right-wing talking heads, the United States has the best health care, education, working conditions and military in the entire world (at least in their brainwashed right-wing minds), which makes me wonder where we stand in the world compared to other “less exceptional” countries relative to how many of our military veterans are homeless and how many veterans (and active-duty) are committing suicide at American record-breaking rates?
USA!!! USA!!! We’re No. 1, We’re No. 1…in the number of homeless veterans and in the number of veterans (and active-duty) who are committing suicide at record-breaking rates…with apparently many of them being Republicans, thrown out on the streets to rot or left to die by their own hand.
Heckuva job, Republican politicians and right-wing candidates, heckuva job.
And we haven’t even touched upon private security contractors and sub-contractors hired to work in the Bush/Cheney war zones, hired via graft-awarded no-bid contracts by the Bush/Cheney administration, with primarily Republican-owned companies getting these contracts, and hiring only other Republicans to be their tools, meaning that most (if not all) of these private employees injured/killed over in the Bush/Cheney war zones are/were Republicans, as well as any of the private contractors suffering PTSD back here in the states, finding themselves homeless or committing suicide are Republicans.
Of course, getting accurate information about these private contractors is nigh unto impossible (which is why Republican corporate masters, and Republican politicians, outsourced so much of our regular military to private for-profit primarily-Republican contractors), but any thinking person can presume that the statistics for the regular military are mirrored in the private shadow-military sector.
So, all you Republicans, including in the U.S. military or shadow private security forces, go ahead and vote for a Republican-Teabagger this election. Maybe you (or someone you know, family or friend) won’t be one of the Republicans thrown out on the street and left to rot, or deal with PTSD on your own, or committing suicide alone…facilitated by insane, corporations-first Americans-last Republican policies, pushed by such “patriotic” draft-dodging Republicans as Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney, Grover Norquist and the John Bircher billionaire Koch brothers.
Help America surge further into the lead worldwide as far as number of homeless veterans left to rot by anti-U.S. government Republican-Teabagging policies, as well as our being number one in PTSD sufferers and number one in those who’ve committed suicide after signing-up to protect and defend our nation from all enemies, domestic and foreign…not realizing that the greatest threat to our democracy at present is budget-busting revenue-destroying privatize-the-VA Republicans-Teabaggers.
Good morning, Marion, pups,
and hey, to the more than occasionally visiting fine feathered, and faint hearted flock of trolls that seemingly comes to here to roost late in the morning, (yesterday’s EM Swim) only to be leaving such stinking spoor, apparently guessing at reasons others might comment, because they simply can’t see the forest for the trees.
Taking out the guesswork for ya, birds, another link to Collins referenced by Marion, above, and a second instance to why anyone would easily consider working for Feingold for those of you birds that can count that high.
Marion, thanks as always for your comments and of course your delicious breakfast suggestions. Watch where you are stepping outside.
