One of those Oven bags, with a pan-browned hunk of beef, a can of cream of mushroom soup(a can of water too), an envelope of Onion soup, chopped onions, garlic, potatoes, carrots, celery, and what ever strikes your fancy, and pop that bad boy into the oven at 325 for about an hour and a half, and voila…! ;-)
I was thinking about how it used to be 40 years ago, how we would find out some very socially relevant news days or weeks later. Now, you can follow someone on twitter and know that second!
I wish my mom could have lived in this age. She was, IMHO, the world most obsessive correspondent. She would keep up mail contact with everyone she ever knew. Christmas cards at an absolute minimum. But ever since I left home, until phone calls became relatively cheap, I’d get at least one hand-written letter per week. I suppose now she’d twitter all that stuff, but that’s hard to imagine. She was so reserved.
down to 48 at the moment…. a wee bit warmer at night than it was over the weekend — was getting down into the mid 30′s so high 40′s feels a lot warmer than it should… daytimes in the mid 60′s… but the rain is coming
My mom was the same. Having grown up before the stock market crash of 1929, she really did not mess around with lengthy phone calls.
I wonder if she would just love Skyping and talking to her friends and family far away…I kind of think she would.
Hi everyone. no news. At least no notice of sheriff’s sale today… It’s been 3 months since they sent me notice of default. GMAC is supposed to be putting their foreclosures on hold nationwide. I really need to talk with an attorney about chapter 13.
Found a few more opportunities, sent resume. 4 active possibilities – 3 on site interviews, one more that did technical screen.
hey wmd — no news is indeed good news. i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed you don’t hear from the sheriff and do hear from an employer wanting to hire ya dood — how’s the mt tonight?
onion soup mix is a great addition to so many things.. i can’t believe i hadn’t thought of adding it to the bag. tis great in hamburgers and meatloaf and added to gravy…
Mom died recently, but she had gradually lost it over the years. Dad, however, had kept his ascerbic sense of politics up to his dying breath a dozen years ago. He had called it as soon as Reagan got into his struggle with PATCO: “These people are trying to turn American into a third-world nation, and by God they just may do it, unless we’re careful.” How could anyone have been more right?
I always do pot roast on the stove top. Nice piece of chuck, onion, garlic, potato, carrot, celery, turnip, parsnip… brown meat, then put in veggies, 1/2 cup of two buck chuck, cover. add wine/water when needed.
i always did it with the bag until i got a large oval shaped crockpot with different speeds. i carmelize the onions (2 large chopped with one cube of butter) on low overnight and then add the meat, potatoes, carots, celery, lotsa garlic and let it cook all day. if i have wine in the house, i’ll add wine but usually don’t have any.
The Fed and the Treasury set out to buy up “toxic assets,” but instead of buying up the mortgages themselves, they bought their derivatives. Now the government has nothing for those hundreds of billions of dollars, and the homeowners still face the same predators.
When all of this broke, the total value of the mortages in foreclosure was realtively small, and all of this shit could have been put away.
We just came back from bringing a pot roast dinner over to my 85 and 87 year old parents, my 91 yr. old aunt is visiting with a wonderful care-giver who must have been a friend in another life. Except, I’m atheist, so we’ll say Kindred Souls. A truly wonderful woman.
It’s hard watching them slip away. But it’s harder for them. It’s so good to talk to someone who knows the scene and really loves old people and family. Makes me kind of regretful for how hurt I was when my parents lashed out recently in an uncharacteristic way.
We need to get the car keys away from Aunt Jo while she’s among family. Unfortunately, it’s seems to be a point of one-uppence between her and her 90 yr. old brother. Who recently lost HIS license. So, people in Milwaukee are in danger during the daylight hours. !!!
It was so good to eat and drink wine and laugh together tonight. Life is in the details. :]
Good God! Pound for pound, a chimp is four times as strong as a human, and 300 lb is quite heavy for a chimp (so I’ve been told). That is one very dangerous animal, but the females are not nearly so dangerous as the males.
The other part of the story is that chimps are our cousins. They have behavior patterns that are very close to ours and indicate a lot of common feelings and ways of seeing things. IMHO, it is very evil to mistreat them.
Aloha, Suz…! ;-)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Mighty soggy…! I’ve got a yankee pot roast going in the oven to counter the blahs…! ;-)
Nice pick, Suz!
thanks newton — been a while since i’ve done 60′s soul…. how’s the west bay tonight?
evening, Suzzz
Soggy here too, CTuttle. Love it! Hey, Suz, great tunes.
i thought you were wanting rain because it was so dry? that pot roast sounds mighty good — how do ya fix it?
hey ppd — how’s the south bay tonight?
How’s it going newtonusr?
hey loohoo — the sogs are forecast to arrive thurs or friday — the weather dood said it was the ‘official start of the rainy season’…
We found Fall.
It’s right here.
I always feel like the rain is sending green. As in color and money. Savings on the water bill!
when i drove over the coast range sun (went to jen’s) there was a lot more color than there was the week before.
true dat. after a rain, the greens are greener — and savings is always a good thing
Lots of rain down here on the south central coast…..but not as bad as the warnings said. No hail. Lots of thunder. Weather is doing its own thing.
Ginny Phillips is making it stick! Military recruiters are falling in line. Damn!
Here.
hey dearie — how was your day today?
hey wigwam — how’s the inland empire? isn’t that just great forking news!!!
tis a pity that obama is missing participating in the greatest civil rights movement since the 60′s…

Ginny’s a hero. We need more like her.
Can’t find it right now, but I read somewhere that there was a problem in Florida. Maybe it was cleared up right away.
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Good thanks, kind of cool and pretty.
It’s somewhat crazy.

Oh, you need to ‘flour the bag’, about 2 tablespoons… It’s been in the oven for about an hour and the whole place smells wonderful…! ;-)
how’s everything up north tonight, Suzzz?
i bet it does…. i’ve never added soup mixes to the bag when i’ve used one… i’ll have to remember that onion mix….thanks for the tip
hiya margot

What the hell? (dkos) Dan Webster (R) 46%, Rep. Alan Grayson (D) 30%

Hi PPD, and hi everyone.
I made 50 calls for Alan today.
We’re getting into light rain about every five days so fall has fell.
hey wmd — no news is indeed good news. i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed you don’t hear from the sheriff and do hear from an employer wanting to hire ya dood — how’s the mt tonight?
woohoo!!!
I think bankruptcy is my best shot right now. And it will keep house from being foreclosed.
Work is important so I can do chapter 13. It’s coming.
mountains are peaceful.
Good for you. I should have time tomorrow to do the same. Did he just get to controversial in his statements/ads?
Hi Margot!
Those vultures. If I had my way, every person facing foreclosure would have their mortgage forgiven, erased, no mas.
on the news just now, the unemployement rate in oregon is still 10.6 — a rate that has remained unchanged for the past 11 months…
Hi Loo Hoo!
I’m calling for Alan, Joe Sestak, Russ Feingold, and possibly Raul Grijalva. Progressive Change Campaign Committee. two hour shifts.
It really does add some pop to the bag method…! My Grandma taught me it and I love the ease and simplicity of it…!
People weren’t that familiar with Alan. I don’t think it’s his ads or statements – more that Dan is getting a lot of outside financing.
onion soup mix is a great addition to so many things.. i can’t believe i hadn’t thought of adding it to the bag. tis great in hamburgers and meatloaf and added to gravy…
My mom too. They were a lovely generation.

Awesome work, wmd…! ;-)
I get cooking wine at Trader Joe’s… keep an eye out to make sure I don’t run low.
TJ’s has $2 wine that’s drinkable, great for cooking. $4 marsala, madeira and sherry too.
You guys are making me hungry.
calling for Prop 19 too.
the Progressive Change Campaign Committee calls don’t result in long distance – they call and automatically connect you to voters.
Call list today was about 1/3 wrong numbers. Keeping from getting frustrated can be difficult.
i think the closest tj up here is over the coast range…. at least an hour away. i have two stores to choose from — safeway and fred meyer (kroger)
*sigh*

hey openhope…. how’s the sound tonight?
have to stock up when you get over there.
Time for me to sleep. Good night all.
g’nite wmd
I know…it could so easily have been avoided. Swoop, with the stroke of a pen.
i’m headed out folks, with apologies. am fighting a bug and am going to curl up in bed.
g’nite all
Now we’ve got a 300 lb. chimp running the streets of Kansas City.
Upsidedown world!
Nite Suz and WMD.
Hope you feel better, Suz.

These wankers from the oil patch have been around for a long, long time. Credit them for perseverance, if nothing else of merit.
