I spent most of the day listening to Hawaiian Music, Sunday Manoa, Gabby, Sons of Hawaii, Sonny Chillingsworth all those in the renaissance of Hawaiiana and the Music Dance and the huge explosion of the culture. Today was a day like none that I have had in over 30 years.. I had the “Ono’s” for Hawaiian today and I sated that very well. I heard music that brought me joy, and music that moved me to tears. Music that stirred up feelings that I hadn’t known in years….
I was lucky, I was there working at the only Hawaiian music station in the world and being paid for it to listen to and learn the culture of the greatest navigators the world has ever known….
I think about all my friends who have passed before, and those who are still here today and consider myself one of the luckiest people alive today… I was taught and trained by the masters…. Very few Haole’s can say that
I rented my next-door-neighbor’s Bobcat and rebuilt our 100-yd-long driveway. It washed out in two rainstorms over the past 15 months, so I had to fix it. Been eight years. Those things are fun to run. Almost tipped it over backwards, back-blading downhill near sunset.
I didn’t think the judge’s decision would be overruled. Hopefully, the remainder of the trial will be a sterling example of the transparency of that country’s noble history of jurisprudence.
Late 70′s and early 80′s, my folks hosted beaucoup groups, Olomana, C&K, Noelani Cypriano, Melveen Leed, Gabby, etc… At our theatre in Na’alehu…! All of them stayed at our hale and jammed extemporaneously on our front lanai…! ;-)
CT, I was a jock at KCCN from 1970 till the mid 76 and I was lucky enough to have known Gabby and all of them from that time.. I will always cherish my Hawaiian Education from people who were way out of my class who took this sailor under their wing and made a local out of what there was to work with….
Aunty Alice Namakelua was my mentor and se appeared on my friday night show faithfully one time a month.. What a lady she was, Moe Keale, the gentle giant, Feets Rogers the merchant seaman with a steel guitar that left you breathless and trembling in awe of its place in the music of the sons of Hawaii….
Where are you CT? Honolulu is probably the only town in the United States that I ever really loved….
Pretty scary ET — my FIL has a very long driveway in PA. He has a tractor with a drag, that helps scatter the broken roadway he buys to “pave” the uphill journey.
Hilo town on the Big Isle… Honolulu has lost it’s vibe of late…! You wouldn’t recognize it at all now…! The Ewa ‘plain’ which used to be all Sugar cane is now the ‘second city’…! Too many people in too small an area these days…! *gah*
I think that the Skylark is down there, or she used to be. I was the guy that convinced Krash to hire Jackie Leilani and she was top drawer… Ah the stories…..
Bobcats are fun. And using them backwards while trying to grade is an easy way to get turned over. You strap in like in an amusement park ride so probably pretty safe.
Talking to you last night brought on todays music feast here. I digitized all my LP’s that I had given to me at KCCN and with a little dish washing liquid and distilled water I washed every disk then used glycerine and soap to make a solution that would dampen the pickup a bit and bob’s yer uncle… CDs of all my treasure…
Okay. Well I’m here. Journey reminds me of the midwest. I’d go back there in 1985 and there were playing Journey. 1995. Journey. 2005 Journey. 2009 Journey sung by the Glee kids!
Now I LOVED the Glee kids version, but It’s like they radio station were stuck in a time warp. I remember one time when they played, Yes, Rush, Journey and Boston all in a row. Or maybe that is just my nightmare were I couldn’t reach over and change the channel.
Tuttle!
Tuttle – JOURNEY?
Dood, I so want to just love you hosting LLN, so what’s wrong with Haleakala, ku hano hano?
Aloha, newt and Kelly…! ;-)
Hey Fellas!
Hapa kicks out some great tunes, Kelly…! ;-)
Hiya, pups.
Two anthems for Joe.
And Izzy too. They both kick the shit out of Journey – Hah!
Aloha, ET…! The Israeli Supreme Court rejected the Corrie’s plea and it’s game on for the trial on the 21st…! Did you see my latest entry…/ ;-)
OUCH!

Been outside since I got home from work.

Didn’t Gabby do the Hawaiian Band Album in Na’alehu in 74 or 75 if I remember correctly…..

I think that the Skylark is down there, or she used to be. I was the guy that convinced Krash to hire Jackie Leilani and she was top drawer… Ah the stories…..

Aloha, PPD…!
Ooh, you should upload ‘em to Youtube…! ;-)
I missed CE tonight
Hey, almost gone. How are you?
hi CE. Doing well, thanks. Folks are stable now that we have dad in 24 hour nursing care.
No Steve Perry…! Oh noes…! ;-)
Good night all.
Aloha CT.
Any snow up your way yet?
That is wonderful – we celebrated MrCE’s dad’s 90th birthday on Oct. 2. Our lives are tough.
*heh* Not yet…! I heard there was some snow that fell in the Alps recently tho…! ;-)
Journey before and without Perry was quite a different story.
There are ‘some’ who lament the change to this day.
For those of us lucky enough to have elderly parents, it comes with the territory.
Hi CT, Chris, PPD, all.
PPD, I hope all goes well.
*heh* Arnel Pineda is no Steve Perry…! ;-)
Hi margot
It does! My mother, at 86 is taking Womens Studies at Penn State campus near Media, PA. My Dad, plays in a band three days a week. Bravo1
Aloha, Margot…!
Dayam, just had to satiate my Olomana fix…!
