A reporter gets arrested by fake cops for being at a private function in a public place. “Congress?” I thought to myself.

Meanwhile in France, the fascist takeover is hitting a speed bump.

all 12 fuel-producing refineries in France are on strike and many depots are being blocked by protesters.

fuel stocks at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport – one of Europe’s key hubs – will hold until at least Tuesday.

What happenes after Tuesday?

Video.

t’s going to penalize the most fragile and the weakest.

Here in the U.S., talk like that would have you targeted as a terrorist by the Attorney General.

I can’t wait for the delayed investigation of the incident and while it will conclude that the officer may have been a bit excessive, it was in line with procedure and nothing further will happen. They will try to withhold their findings until after the election to ensure that they don’t influence it.

The American people will once again be thrown under the bus, like they are at each and every turn when “important people” decide to do things in public. Dissent is not allowed. At least not within a half a mile or more of the thing you are trying to influence. He probably left the “Free^H^H^H^HNon-Fox News Zone”, so he had to be pummeled.

Off topic – “Obama pleads with Democrats in Ohio” http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/10/17/obama.ohio/index.html?hpt=T2

While I am pretty set in my view of Obama and the Democratic party, it would be swell if he could just admit that his health care bill was a piece of shit and that financial reform was trash as well. Be honest, stop trying to polish those turds and selling them as “sweeping reform”. You just make yourself sound stupid and insincere. The people on the left know the score and the people on the right don’t listen to anything you say anyways.

Tired of listening to politicians this month being up in arms about outsourcing. They had two years to do something about it. Oh wait, they had since 2006 to do something about it, but they didn’t. Now you care? Oh wait, this is undoubtably “silly things” you say around election time, right?

Just tired of all the lies. I’d rather he be up front and honest than sticking to his spin and thinking I’ll eventually bite. Saying the same thing over and over again, hoping that you’ll bring people to your view only works if they don’t have external influences affecting their perspective on things.

I constantly worry about job insecurity and my diminishing benefits (health care). I live in reality, he lives in the world of spin. He can’t make me see his side of things when I look at increasing co-pays and deductibles.

This country is doomed indeed.

The actions akin of Nazis. Folks when Nazis where put on the hot seat they would strike at opposition and silence it. So arresting a reporter to preclude the effective exercise of his employment and constitutional right is a serious problem, at a political event! This is a cancer. Maybe reporters can hire personal body guards so when they are assaulted under the color of law which violates their “constitutional rights” they can be protected against abuses of power manifest in the behavior of fuck-heads!!!!

Mornin’, BT, pups

Krugman this morning:

Couple the rare earth story with China’s behavior on other fronts — the state subsidies that help firms gain key contracts, the pressure on foreign companies to move production to China and, above all, that exchange-rate policy — and what you have is a portrait of a rogue economic superpower, unwilling to play by the rules. And the question is what the rest of us are going to do about it.

The administration’s answer: wring hands and write a sternly worded letter.

In a speech at Berkeley late last month Robert Fisk has a few words to say about the current state of journalism. This is a half hour of the speech. I’m still looking for the whole thing.

nice post, allow me;

Second, there is now enough evidence to demonstrate that there is nothing fair about free trade. The U.S. in particular has gone out of its way to dump its subsidized agricultural products on the rest of the world, esp developing countries, putting their main economic underpinning out of business.

nor is there any evidence that demonstrates there is even such a thing as “free trade” other then in the minds of authors like hans christian anderson, “free trade” is of course, a fantasy

But then he would have to admit that the reason for that and for the fact that they waited to introduce the lame ass DISCLOSE Act till right before the recess was that the Democrats were all in about trying to cash in on Citizens United.

It reminds me of the American Civil War: A whole lot of people doing a whole lot of suffering because of a profit seeking venture that only a few really wealthy people, (and their paid for politicians), thought was a good idea. When are the poor and middle class going to wake up and realize that the people who control the money don’t know best and they aren’t our benefactors?

“Free trade” is another one of those smokescreens that, boiled down to their essentials, are a way of imposing a regime whereby developed countries can steal resources from developing countries, while dumping whatever they want on those countries.

Like funding a Tobacco Institute? A not for profit tax exempt trade organization which relieves the burdens of government? Would you please bend over America, and trust corporate America! NO fucking way!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_Institute

“The Tobacco Institute was founded in 1958 as a trade organization by cigarette manufacturers, who funded it proportionally to each company’s sales. It was initially to supplement the work of the Tobacco Industry Research Committee (which later became the Council for Tobacco Research). The TIRC work had been limited to attacking scientific studies that put tobacco in a bad light, and the Tobacco Institute had a broader mission to put out good news about tobacco, especially economic news. It also attacked scientific studies, although more by casting doubt on them rather than by rebutting them directly. It also lobbied Congress, although initially at a low level.[4]:211,466″

Lobbying and policy work

“The Tobacco Institute collected intelligence on attitudes toward smoking, developed strategies, and lobbied legislators. Allan M. Brandt wrote “The Tobacco Institute, on behalf of the companies, assembled an impressive record of derailing attempts to bring tobacco under any regulatory mandates whatsoever”.[1]:276 By 1978 the Tobacco Institute had 70 lobbyists, and Senator Ted Kennedy said in 1979, “Dollar for dollar they’re probably the most effective lobby on Capitol Hill”.[4]:466″

Nice “BP” commercials as of late. Walk a mile for a Camel, cigarette today? Probably not!

Sorry, I’m a bit too cynical for that. I thought that was what voting was about. Your candidate/party doesn’t earn my vote, I take my vote elsewhere. It is a shame it has devolved to lesser of two evils and the use of fear to compel people to vote for you.

A failed party/politician deserves to fail, just that simple. To vote for Obama or the Democrats just reinforces their belief that they are doing the “right” thing. I realize in the short term that this leads to the Republicans getting back in power, but the line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere. Ineptitude on the part of politicians cannot continue to be rewarded.

I’ll vote green or independent, but the Democrats are as insincere as the Republicans to the needs of the American people. We accuse the Republicans of fear mongering all the time, but the Democrats are as equally guilty. Look at what we’ve gotten, we got to date, we have Republican Lite pretending to be for the people.

Sorry, take your “blame the voter” not the politician or party bullshit and go somewhere else. You most likely subscribe to the notion of “changing from within” the Democratic party. That is a huge investment of time, money and being continually disappointed with the way the party goes. No way, no how. Yum, 30 years of shit before the payoff? Sorry.

Minorities are shockingly under represented in all of them and so are cell phone users. They’ve all become about as “scientific” this cycle as Zogby. Nate Silver has got his gig. More important to his career now than his accuracy is doing what he’s told and that’s advancing The NARRATIVE.

The Kochies actually co-opted the original movement so it could be stripped of its libertarian and secular trappings and Borged back into the GOP. This allowed the GOP to dodge being faced with a strong nationwide actual third-party group that took votes from them the way the (GOP-backed) Greenies and Naderites take them from the Dems, but at the price of strengthening the TheoCons’ hands within the GOP to the point where their candidates started to win primaries — and to drive off the non-TheoCons.

As long as labor is not mobile and there are all sorts of complicated non-tariff restraints on trade, there is no free trade.

One could argue that differences in the enforcement of labor standards and environmental laws, and different tax structures mean there is no free trade among US states.

The last thing investors want is free trade. No barriers; no arbitrage.
